Dorothy "Dot" Dennis Kelly
(July 1, 1923 - August 20, 2011)
Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Dennis Kelly passed away peacefully at Winona Manor in Winona on Saturday, August 20.
Mrs. Kelly was born icon on July 1, 1923, to Charlie Lee and Lillie Bell Dennis in Scott County, Mississippi.
She had worked at Georgia Hardwood Lumber Company, the County Superintendent of Education's office, and owned Winona Floral Company for 34 years prior to retiring on December 31, 1997.
She had served as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Lodge in Winona.
Mrs. Kelly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, W. P. Kelly; grandson, Scott Kelly; and two brothers, Charles Dennis, Jr., and John "Jack" R. Dennis.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne K. Fowler (W. C.) of Madison County; sons, Dennis Kelly (Sue) and Lee Kelly (Lynn) of Winona; sister, Mabel Daves (Jimmy) of Madison; grandson, Matt Kelly of Brandon; great-granddaughter, Natalie Kelly of Winona; granddaughter, Jann Prescott, and great-granddaughter, Taylor Prescott, of Long Beach; granddaughter, Ida Hammons (Steven), and
great-grandchildren, Lauren Ladner, Erica Hammons, and Jeremy Hammons, of Long Beach.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 21, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Lee Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 21, at Lee Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Oakwood cemetery in Winona.

Danny Max Brower
(September 3, 1946 - October 6, 2015)
A Celebration of Life for Danny Max Brower of Carrollton will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, at his home at 8020 Highway 35 near Carrollton.
Friends and family are encouraged to bring a note of remembrance for the family.
Mr. Brower, 69, died at University Medical Center in Grenada on Tuesday, October 6.
He was born icon in Greenwood on September 3, 1946, to the late James Leon and Carrie Mae Albritton Brower. Mr. Brower was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired Disease Intervention Specialist Supervisor for the Mississippi State Department of Health. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Greenwood. He will be remembered for this gifts of conversation, encouragement to others, and his passion for singing for the Lord. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brower was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Brower and Roger Brower.
Mr. Brower is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sheila Williamson Brower of Carrollton; his daughter, Brooks Brower of Jackson; three sisters, Shirley Whiteside (Ben) of Brandon, Carolean Walker (Frank) of Brandon, and Joyce Creed (Larry) of Ruston, Louisiana; a sister-in-law, Robbie Brower of Pearl; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mississippi Muscular Dystrophy Association, 2001 Airport Road #205, Flowood, MS 39232; or to L.I.F.E. (Living Independently For Everyone), 1304 Vine Street, Jackson, MS 39202.

George John Shackelford
(August 9, 1952 - September 9, 2016)
Graveside services for George John Shackelford, 64, who died on September 9, 2016 at his home, will be at 3 pm Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Evergreen cemetery in North Carrollton. Brother Ed Saunders will officiate at the service.
George was born icon in Greenwood on August, 9, 1952 to the late James A. and Mayfred Shackelford.
George served as President of Peoples Bank and Trust Company of North Carrollton, where he began working at age seventeen. He was an active member of North Carrollton United Methodist Church and a graduate of Delta State University.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; daughter, May Trezevant, and her husband, Taylor of Germantown, TN; son, James Shackelford of Coila; brother, Pate Shackelford, and his wife, Carla of North Carrollton; sisters, Virginia Walcott and her husband, Winn of Jackson and Jamie Bledsoe, and her husband, Ernest of Shellmound; and three grandchildren, Allie, John, and George Trezevant. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, James Allan Shackelford, II.
Pallbearers will be Allan Bledsoe, Pate Shackelford Jr., Winn Walcott, Nolan Aikens, Hunter Aikens, Mack Bennett, Mike Boler, Charles Hull, Wally Montgomery, Earnest Sanders, and Alton Turnipseed.
Honorary pallbearers will be David O’Bryan, Harold Pittman, Sam Fonda, James Kenwright, and The Board of Directors of Delta Electric Power Association.

Emma Frances "Doll" Shackelford Bennett
(December 22, 1911 - March 17, 2008)
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Frances "Doll" Shackelford Bennett of Carrollton will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, at Carrollton Presbyterian Church in Carrollton, with burial following in Evergreen cemetery in North Carrollton. Dr. Morris Taylor will officiate the services. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 18, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., at Lee Funeral Home; and from 2:30 until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, at Carrollton Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Bennett died of heart failure on Monday, March 17, at Indywood Glen Personal Care Home in Greenwood. She was 96 years old.
Mrs. Bennett was the daughter of the late John W. Shackelford and Margaret Buchanan Shackelford, and the widow of the late Malcolm M. Bennett, Sr. She was a homemaker and an active member of Carrollton Presbyterian Church.
She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Cherokee Rose Garden Club.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by three sons, Malcolm M. "Mack" Bennett, Jr., of Carrollton; John W. "Jack" Bennett of McCarley; and Roger F. Bennett of Conroe, Texas; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carrollton Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 201, Carrollton, MS 38917.

W. H. "Sonny" Noland
(May 25, 1927 - April 10, 2008)
Funeral services for W. H. "Sonny" Noland of North Carrollton are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, at Lee Chapel in Winona. Interment will follow in Evergreen cemetery in North Carrollton. Rev. Lanny Haley will officiate the services. Visitation will be on Friday, April 11, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Lee Funeral Home.
Mr. Noland died of cancer on Thursday, April 10, at Grenada Lake Medical Center in Grenada. He was 80.
Mr. Noland was the son of the late William Harry Noland and the late Velma Myrtle Carpenter Noland. He was retired from Barrentine Repair in Greenwood.
He was a member of North Carrollton Baptist Church, Clay Hill Hunting Club, Top Ten Hunting Club, and Big Hungry Hunting Club. Mr. Noland was preceded in death by his wife, the late Pauline Woods Noland.
Mr. Noland is survived by three sons, Bill Noland and wife Betty of Bogue Chitto, Stephen Noland and special friend Bonnie Hughes of Vaiden, and Jerry Noland and wife Mary Ann of North Carrollton; two sisters, Opal Cavaliere of Carrollton and Aylene Miskelley of Port Gibson; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three special nieces, Fran Andrews, Brenda Wood, and Charlotte Lord.
Pallbearers are Bruce Edwards, Donald McHarry, Greg Ellis, Jerry Barnes, Frank Truitt, and Hays Noland. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Tate, Leslie Burden, Bill Wood, Arvel Burden, Stanley "Sugar" Mullins, Sammy "Buster" Mullins, and Brad Carver.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Evergreen cemetery Fund or to the American Cancer Society.

Terry R. Smith
(September 25, 1953 - May 18, 2008)
Graveside funeral services for Terry R. Smith of North Carrollton are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, at Evergreen cemetery in North Carrollton, with interment immediately following. Rev. Lanny Haley and Rev. Tommy Clark will officiate the service. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 20, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m., at Lee Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith died of heart failure on Sunday, May 18, at his residence. He was 54 years old.
Mr. Smith was a disabled surveyor and a member of North Carrollton Baptist Church in North Carrollton. He was preceded in death by his father, the late Ray Smith.
Survivors include two daughters, Brandy Smith and Layla Smith, both of Banner; two sons, Dusty Smith of Harmontown and John Thompson of Dallas, Texas; mothers, Dorothy Jones of Carrollton and Margaret Corder of Carrollton; four sisters, Sharon Stone, Debbie Clark, Sissy Lloyd, and Gail Hooks, all of Carrollton; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will lbe Donny Morefield, Ray Neal, Keith Ferguson, John Lott, Keith James, and Mike Carpenter.

Billy Costilow
(May 24, 1936 - August 11, 2010)
Funeral services for Billy Costilow of Winona will be at 10:00 a.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church in Winona, with Rev. Larry Creel and Rev. T. R. Darsey officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope cemetery, with Masonic rites at graveside.
Visitation will be Friday, August 13, from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m., at Lee Funeral Home.
Mr. Costilow died of heart failure on Wednesday, August 11, at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona. He was 74 years old.
Mr. Costilow was the son of the late Willie and Eloise Blaylock Costilow.
He was a cattle farmer and a former sheriff of Montgomery County. He was a member of North Winona Baptist Church, the Winona Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, and a Shriner. He served in the Mississippi National Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Hodges Costilow, and a sister, Betty McCrary.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Henley Costilow of Winona; one daughter, Christy Costilow Marlow and her husband, Chris, of Winona; two sons, Gene Costilow and his wife, Rhonda, of Winona and David Costilow and his wife, Tracey, of Winona; two stepdaughters, Tina Welch of Gilroy, California, and Jo Anna Freely and her husband, Michael, of Starkville; two sisters, Grace Carpenter of Winona and Jeanette Pyron of Winona; one brother, Jimmy Costilow of LaGrange, Wyoming; fifteen grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bubba Shaw, Jamie Pyron, Robert McCrary, Rich Hodges, Buddy Pullen, and Mark Blaylock. All of Mr. Costilow's coffee shop friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Doris Burrell Abels
(January 20, 1926 - October 4, 2011)
Graveside funeral services for Doris Burrell Abels of Carrollton will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 7, at the Evergreen cemetery in North Carrollton with burial following. Rev. Diane Lemmon will officiate the service.
A visitation will be held on Friday, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m., at Lee Funeral Home in Winona.
Mrs. Abels died at her residence, with her children by her side, on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. She was 85 years old.
Mrs. Abels was born icon in Sallis, Mississippi, to Oliver C. and Ada Lula Burrell on January 20, 1926. She was married icon to her high school sweetheart, Carlton Abels, also of Sallis, for 60 years. She graduated from Holmes Jr. College and Draughns Business School. She worked for many years as a secretary, teacher, and an administrative assistant for her husband. Moving many times in their lifetime she made many friends in residences in Durant, MS, Van Dale, Wynn, Rosebud and Knobel, AR, Flora, Belmont, Madison, Marks, Ethel, Tchula and Carrollton, MS.
Mrs. Abels will always be remembered for her unsinkable spirit and joie de vivre. A devoted and loving wife and mother, her talents and qualities were indescribable, but it is universally agreed that her spirit was the glue that held the family together. From a large completely musical family, she sang and played in her family stringband in the late 1930‘s around Attala and Holmes County. Doris taught her family how to sing 3-4 part harmony and passed on her love of music family and life. She was a member of Carrollton United Methodist Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Abels was preceded in death by a grandson, Sterling Paine Jones; and a great-granddaughter, Natalie Lynn Jones.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Lou Lane and her husband, Don, of Flora, Glenda Jones and her husband, Sterling of Carrollton, and Carla Shackelford and her husband, Pate, of North Carrollton; one son, Cecil Carlton Abels II; two sisters, Bess Stauch and Clydie Dickerson; one brother, Trent Burrell; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Carrollton United Methodist Church, Carrollton, MS 38917; or to Natalie's Memorial Playground, c/o Peoples Bank and Trust Company, P. O. Box 397, North Carrollton, MS 38947.

Stewart Byron Mitchell
(July 25, 1946 - October 5, 2015)
Funeral services for Stewart Byron Mitchell of Carrollton will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church near Carrollton, with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Duane Jensen will officiate the services.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 6, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home in Winona; and on Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until service time, at the church.
Mr. Mitchell, 69, died of respiratory failure at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson on Monday, October 5. He was born icon in Grenada on July 25, 1946, to the late Demar and Sallie Tribble Mitchell. He was a retired employee of the Mississippi Department of Transportation, where he worked in maintenance and as a heavy equipment operator. He was a past master and member of Masonic Lodge #36, and was a member and deacon of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly McDaniel.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carroll Mitchell of Carrollton; daughters, Tammy Hart (J.R.) of Mize and Tracy DuVall (Mark) of Olive Branch; sisters, Cindy Mitchell of Carrolltona and Marquita Goss (Harvey) of Florence; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

Otis R. Nester
(August 31, 1935 - August 5, 2016)
A graveside service for Otis R. Nester of Orange, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, at New Jerusalem Baptist Church cemetery in Carroll County. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., at New Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Mr. Nester, 80, died of cancer at The Meadows Health and Rehabilitation in Orange, Texas, on Friday, August 5. He was born icon in Meridian on August 31, 1935, to John Deryl and Virgie Mae Blackmon Nester. He was a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Nester was a member of the First Assembly of God and the Masonic Lodge #314 in Vivian, Louisiana, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jan Shay; and six brothers, Robert Nester, Tom Nester, Richard Nester, LaVurn "Pete" Nester, J. D. Nester, and Earl 'Sonny" Nester.
Mr. Nester is survived by his wife, Shirley J. Haymon of Orange, TX; sons, Stephen Nester (Susan) of Rio Rancho, NM, and Jack Nester (Sherrie) of Springville, AR; sisters, Norma Beckwith (John) of North Carrollton, Murl Chriss of Rock Hill, SC, Faye Slawson (Billy) of Mobile, AL, and Kathy Sowell (Bob) of Trumann, AR; one brother, Doug Nester (Sarah) of Carrollton; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
