Cruse, Martha Lucille Kidd
Martha Lucille Kidd Cruse, 54, of Nettleton, died Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at North Mississippi Medical Center, of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 16, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton. Rev. Sammy McMillan and Rev. Marvin Ward officiated the service. Burial was in Springville cemetery near Pontotoc. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Cruse, daughter of the late Carl and Lera Staten Kidd, was born icon October 13, 1947, in Pontotoc County. She was a former factory worker and a member of Cason Baptist Church. She was the widow of the late Granville Cruse, Sr.

Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Hawkins of Batesville, and Ashley Marie Cruse of Nettleton; a son, Granville "Peanut" Cruse, Jr. of Nettleton; three step-daughters, Gail Gray of Smithville, Flora Cruse of Okeechobee, Florida, and Carolyn Cruse of Tupelo; two step-sons, Tommy Cruse of Mooreville and Mike Cruse of Shannon; two sisters, Jean McGregory and Barbara Palmer, both of Pontotoc; two brothers, Jackie Kidd of Tyler, Alabama, and Billy Kidd of Pontotoc; eight step-grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren.

Curtis, Lucille
Lucille Curtis, 87, of Charleston, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at Grenada Lake Medical Center of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m. at Locopolis M.B. Baptist Church in Charleston. Rev. W. H. Johnson, Jr. will officiate the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Nicholson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Curtis, daughter of the late James Henry Boclair and Maggie R. Gentry, was born icon November 23, 1914, in Grenada County. She was a homemaker and a member of Locopolis M.B. Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Maggie Crump on Pontiac, Michigan, Jessie Melton of Greenwood, Dorothy Curtis of Charleston, and Barbara Booker of St. Louis, Missouri; four sons, Ben Curtis, Larry Curtis and W. B. Curtis, all of Chicago, Illinois, and Henry Curtis of Grenada; 51 grandchildren, 97 great-grandchildren, 26 great, great-grandchildren and one great, great, great-grandchild.

Bailey, Jerry Lee Sr.
Jerry Lee Bailey, Sr., 65, of Water Valley, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove C.M.E. Church in Bruce, Miss. Interment was at Zion Springs M.B. Church cemetery in Bruce.

Bailey, born icon November 30, 1937 in Calhoun County to the late Ed Neely and the late Ester Bailey, was a member of Oak Grove C.M.E. Church and a musician at the church. He also served as trustee of the church.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Bailey of Water Valley; two daughters, Linda Bailey and Shelia Bailey, both of Water Valley; four sons, Jerry Bailey, Tommie Bailey, Akeem Bailey, and Don Bailey, all of Water Valley; four brothers, John Bailey of Bruce, Roger Bailey of Gary, Ind., Sylvester Bailey and Charles Bailey both of Bruce; 10 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Ballentine, Ella Shaw
Ella Shaw Ballentine, 85, formerly of Batesville, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, in St.Louis, Mo.

Services were Saturday at Cooley's Mortuary, Inc. with interment at Mt. Gillion cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Walter Newsome officiated services. Cooley's Mortuary, Inc. had charge.

Ballentine, born icon March 1, 1917, in Batesville, to the late Mrs. Lela Brassell and the late Mr. Walter Shaw. Ballentine was a house wife and member of Christ Pilgrim Rest M.B.Church in St. Louis, Mo.

Survivors include four sons, Willie E. Ballentine and Walter Ballentine both of St. Louis, Mo., Eugene Ballentine of Lexington, Ky., and Thomas Ballentine of St. Louis Mo.; three daughters, Hattie Stunson, Lavonzell Holt, and Modena Holman all of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Nola Galimore of Batesville, and Kate Brown of St. Louis Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Ballentine, Josephine Draper
Josephine Draper Ballentine, 93, of Sardis, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at Beverly Health Care.

Services are today at 1 p.m. at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial is at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church cemetery. Rev. Odell Draper Jr. will officiate. Cooley's Mortuary has charge.

Ballentine, born icon to the late Jim Henry Draper and the late Anna Shaw Draper, was a housewife and a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Josephine Fondren of Sardis and Annie Ruth Hand of Batesville; two sons, James Ballentine of Sardis and Alex Ballentine of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Cecil Shorter and Ella Carol Fondren, both of Sardis; one brother Odell Draper of Sardis; her grandson that cared for her Joe Ballentine of Sardis; 30 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great grandchildren.

Bankston, Rick
Rick Bankston, 46, of Como, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 at his residence.

Services were Sunday at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial was at Nesbit cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.

Bankston served in the Navy.

Survivors include his wife Treta Bankston of Como; mother Barbara Bankston Pierce of Nesbit; two daughters, Courtney Hamilton of Memphis and Cameron Harrington of Houston, Tenn.; three sons, Richard Bankston and Mike Campbell, both of Nesbit and Jeremy Noe of Memphis; two brothers, Kenneth Bankston of San Antonio, Texas and David Bankston of Coral Springs, Fla.; and one grandson.

Baronowski, Mildred Ferrell
Mildred Ferrell Baronowski, 83, of Batesville, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at Beverly Health Care in Batesville.

Services were Thursday at First Baptist Church in Sardis. Burial was at Pleasant Grove cemetery near Sardis. Rev. Ray Legge, Rev. Kirt Germany, Rev. Jerry Sanford and Dean Wright officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Baronowski, born icon April 1, 1920, to the late Burford Ferrell and the late Mable Legge Ferrell, was a retired Deputy City Clerk for the town of Sardis.

She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard G. Baronowski.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Smith of Baton Rouge, La. and Myra McGehee of Independence; two sons, Lenny Baronowski of Collierville, Tenn. and Jim Baronowski of Batesville; one brother Van Ferrell of Sardis; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Barnett, Leacy Velma
Leacy Velma Barnett, 95, of Sardis, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial is at Pilgrim's Rest cemetery. Rev. Wes Sherman will officiate. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Barnett, born icon May 9, 1908, to the late Dee Johnson and the late Daisy Thorne Johnson, was a member of Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church, a member of the Homemakers Club, a WMU, a Sunday School teacher and a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jack Barnett.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Lamar Barnett, Sr. of Courtland, Bobby Barnett of Batesville and Hugh Barnett of Courtland; one sister Lillian Childs of Batesville; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Pilgrim's Rest Pastoral Home fund or the cemetery fund.

Barr, Willie E. "Bro"
Willie E. "Bro" Barr, 62, of Batesville died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Baptist East Hospital-Desoto.

Funeral services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Province M.B. Church. Burial will be at New Province in Batesville. Rev. Jacob Hentz will officiate. Cooley's Mortuary has charge.

Barr born icon June 5, 1940, to the late Rogers William Barr and the late Nulene Henderson, was a retired laborer for Loden Property & Batesville Concrete and a member of New Hope M.B. Church.

Survivors include four sons, Michael Oliver, Willie Clyde Oliver, Barry Oliver, all of Batesville, and Edward Jerome Oliver of Holly Springs; three daughters, Cassandra Oliver, Shannon Oliver, both of Batesville, and Sheronda Brown of Canton, Ohio; one brother Floyd Junior Barr of Batesville; three sisters, Gloria Fondren, Bernice Holmes, both of Batesville, and Dorothy Davis of Chicago, Ill. and 12 grandchildren.

Beaird, Theda M.
Theda M. Beaird, 71, of Pope, died Monday, July 7, 2003 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Graveside services were Wednesday, July 9. Burial was at Walker Memory Gardens in Jasper, Ala. Brother Delmus Anthony officiated. Collins-Burke Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Brewer of Bartlett, Tenn. and Debbie Dye of Pope; one brother Ranney Coke of Ramer, Tenn.; two sisters, Dorothy Louise Seals of Cleveland and Mary Spencer of Corinth; four grandchildren and five great-grand children.

Bean, Dirus Aurelia
Dirus Aurelia Bean, 70, of Courtland, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare in Batesville.

Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, at Shiloh M.B. Church in Courtland. Rev. Carl Brown will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Cooley's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Cooley's Mortuary.

Bean, born icon April 8, 1933, to the late Oliver Sherman "Pete" Cox and the late Murlie Street, graduated from Batesville Colored High School. She was a homemaker, babysitter and a member of the Shiloh M.B. Church. She was a deaconness, usher, a member of the program committee and the Sunday School Treasurer until her illness.

Survivors include her husband, Master Bean of Courtland; three daughters, Linda Bean, Myra Bean and Sandra Bean, all of Courtland; one son Master R. Bean of Courtland, one grandchild Danielle Bean of Courtland; one stepdaughter, Flora Anderson of Sledge; one brother Bolton Street of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister Neva Jean Street of St. Louis, Mo.; and seven step-grandchildren.

Two children preceded her in death Trevor and Nicole Bean.

Beaver, Eric Wayne
Eric Wayne Beaver, 31, of Batesville, died Saturday, September 20, 2003, in Crittenden County, Ark.

Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Forrest Memorial Park. Rev. Donald Mullins and Rev. Dale Beaver officiated.

Beaver, born icon Dec. 8, 1971, to the late Wayne Beaver and Naomi Rogers Beaver, was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his mother Naomi Rogers Beaver of Batesville; one daughter Chesli Suzanne Beaver of Batesville and one sister Tammy Beaver Powell of Batesville.

Beavers, Bobby Joe
Bobby Joe Beavers, 63, of Sardis, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 at Baptist Memorial in Oxford.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at C. O. Pate Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial is at Rose Hill cemetery.

Beavers, a retired carpenter, was a veteran of the National Guard and a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Sardis.

Survivors include his wife Virginia Beavers of Sardis; one daughter Betty Johnson and one son William D. Beavers of Sardis; two sisters, Lorraine Davis of Courtland and Merle Herring of Charleston; two brothers, Cecil Beavers of Pearl and Wade Beavers of Senatobia.
