Elizabeth Bell, 83, formerly of Water Valley, died Jan. 17, 2003, at Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago, Ill., of natural causes.

Services were Saturday Water Valley Funeral Home Chapel and interment was at Green Gosha cemetery.

Bell, Maggie Lee
Maggie Lee Bell, 69, of Crenshaw, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003, in Strayhorn.

Services were Saturday at the Church of God in Christ Headquarter in Clarksdale. Burial was at Heavenly Rest cemetery in Clarksdale. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Bell was on the mother board and served in many other capacities as a member of Antioch Church in Christ in Tunica.

She is preceded in death by her husband Lee Edward Bell Sr.

Survivors include two daughters, Tangaree M. McKialy of London, England and Lulanda D. Bell of Fort Worth, Texas; eight sons, Edgar L. Bell of Killeen, Texas, Jimmie L. Bell of Fort Worth, Texas, Curtis M. Bell of Holly Springs, Christopher A. Bell of Elpso, Texas, John W. Bell, Derrell T. Bell and Levell T. Bell, all of Memphis and Tony O. Bell of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister Estella Lambert of Tupelo; one brother Willie D. Steele of Gary, Ind. and 13 grandchildren.

Best, Eddie Paul
Eddie Paul Best, Sr., 60, of Pope, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, in his home of heart failure.

Services will be Friday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m. at Willow Springs Assembly of God with interment at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Rev. Tommy Darby and Rev. Dennis Cook will officiate services. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Best, born icon June 26, 1942, to Luther and Josie Mae Darby Best of Charleston, was disabled.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Cook Best of Pope; two daughters, Rhonda Best Roberson of Courtland and Tanya Best Hollingsworth of Pope; three sons, Mark A. Best of Tupelo, Ron Walls of Grenada, Eddie P. Best, Jr. of Pope; one sister, Betty Kaye Best of Oxford; one brother, Bobby Ray Best, Sr. of Oakland; and 11 grandchildren.

Betts, Ester Jones
Ester Jones Betts, 88, of Oxford, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services were Thursday at New Hope M.B. Church. Burial was in New Hope M.B. Church in Batesville. Rev. L.C Smith officiated. Cooley's Mortuary had charge.

Betts, born icon April 3, 1913, to the late Samuel William Jones and the late Elizabeth Henderson, was a homemaker and a member of Brassell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

Survivors include one grandson Carl Allen Brassell, who was her caretaker, of Batesville; one granddaughter Ora Mae Conner, who was also her caretaker, of Batesville; one daughter Edna Faye Brassell of Jackson; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Billington, Earnestine Hatley
Earnestine Hatley Billington, 73, of Crenshaw, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, from a long term of illness.

Services were Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Crenshaw. Burial was at the St. Joseph M.B. Church cemetery. Rev. Prez Jackson officiated. Delta Burial had charge.

Billington was born icon Sept. 23, 1930, to the late Turner and Willie Mae Hatley of Tunica, accepted Christ at an early age and served on the Mother Board and Pastor's Aid Club at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church in Crenshaw, where she remained a faithful member until death.

Survivors include her husband William Billington of Crenshaw; one daughter Mildred Lester; five sisters, Beulah Wilbourn and Lillie Marshall, both of Crenshaw, Lula Ondias of Memphis, Inez Hatley of Evanston and Pearlene Gillispie of St. Louis; three brothers, Johnny Hatley of Crenshaw, James Hatley and Turner Hatley, both of Memphis; one granddaughter; one grandson and one nephew she raised Charlie Brice Jr.

Bingham, Arilla Lomax
Arilla Lomax Bingham, 67, of Como, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Baptist East Memorial Hospital.

Services are today at 1 p.m. at Cistern Hill M.B. Church in Como. Burial is at Cistern Hill cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

Bingham was a retired teacher with 35 years in Panola County schools, she was a church secretary, usher board, Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school teacher, missionary society, a pastorŐs aide, hospitality committee and a member of the Como Homemaker Club.

Survivors include her husband Louis Bingham; one daughter Angela Charissie Bingham of Memphis; two sons, Louis Bingham Jr. of Como and Terrence D. Bingham of Munich, Germany and two sisters, Ernestine Bridgforth of Como and Olivet Montgomery of Memphis.

Birdsong, Raymond Mack
Raymond Mack Birdsong, 75, of Oxford, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Mississippi Veterans Hospital in Oxford.

Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Walnut Baptist Church in Lambert. Rev. Jimmy Chapman will officiate. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Birdsong, born icon April 1, 1927, to the late Samuel Birdsong and the late Rena Chrestman Birdsong, was a WWII Navy Veteran and a farmer.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail Barton and Dianne Birdsong, both of Oakland; three sisters, Mary McNeil of Olive Branch, Zula Bush of Black River Falls, Wis. and Mae Calo of Chalmette, La. and one grandchild, Dani Ray Barton of Oakland.

Memorials may be sent to: American Cancer Society, State Veterans Home of Oxford or charity of the donor's choice.

Bishop, Inez White
Inez White Bishop, 87, of Oxford, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Services were Thursday at Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford. Burial was at Hopewell-Clasco cemetery in Pontotoc. Rev. Jimmy Sockwell officiated. Waller Funeral Home had charge.

Bishop, a homemaker, was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Bulah Hosey of Magee, Clara Thomas of Bruce, Nina Percell of Trumann, Ark., and Rela Jackson of Oxford; four sons, Jimmy Bishop of Tillatoba, Donal Bishop of Oxford, Lyle Bishop of Mooreville and Kirby Bishop of Batesville; four sisters, Genero O'Neal of Covington, Tenn., Christeen Hellums of Vardaman, Ruby O'Bryant of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Shirley Carter of Hernando; two brothers, J.D. White of Northport, Ala., and Glen White of Marks; 30 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Claude Cayce Bishop.

Bishop, Verna McKay
Verna McKay Bishop, 91, of Sardis, died Saturday, August 30, 2003, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Services were Tuesday at John W. German Funeral Home in Hayti, Mo. Burial was at Number Eight cemetery. Rev. Mike Melton officiated. John W. German Funeral Home had charge.

Bishop, born icon Sept. 12, 1911, to the late Isaac McKay and Clara Agnes Ash McKay, was a teacher, homemaker and a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church in Memphis. She enjoyed being a volunteer at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

She is preceded in death by her husband James Vernon Bishop, an infant daughter, Anita Jo, a daughter, Lynda Kay Bishop Grigory and a brother, Isaac McKay Jr.

Survivors include one daughter Carole Bishop Davidson of Sardis; three sisters, Lola McKay Gestring of Mesquite, Texas, Onisca McKay Gibbons of Lake St. Louis, Mo. and Irene M. McKay of Orange, Calif.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and 12 nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105 or a charity of the donor's choice.

Black, Jessie Hubert
Jessie Hubert Black, 56, of Sardis, died Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at Desoto Baptist Hospital in Southaven.

Services were Sunday at Walton Chapel C.M.E. Church in Sardis. Burial was at Mt. Level in Como. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Black, was a steward of the church and a factory worker.

Survivors include his mother Mary E. Black of Sardis; one daughter, Jacqueline Jones of Batesville; one son Reginald Black of Batesville; one step-son Daryl Fondren of Batesville; five sisters, Freddie Conrad, Elvera Walton, both of Memphis, Thersa B. Ellison of Jackson, Doloris B. Woodard of Water Valley and Lynda B. Thomas of Memphis; six brothers, Johnny Cooper, James Black, Larry Black, Michael Black, all of Memphis, Sim H. Black and Robert Black, both of Detroit, Mich. and two grandchildren.

Bland, George
George Bland, 78, of Senatobia, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Services were Thursday at New Ford M.B. Church in Senatobia. Burial was in Senatobia Memorial cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Bland, a truck driver for Pettis Tobacco Company, was chairman of the deacon board and treasure of the church.

Survivors include one son George Bland, Jr. of Senatobia; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine G. Bland.

Boling, Gladys Louise
Gladys Louise Boling, 76, of Como, died Monday, May 12, 2003, at her residence of heart failure.

Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Longtown cemetery in Crenshaw. Rev. R.D. Stump, Dr. Jim Howard and Mr. Tim Alsup officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Boling, born icon Nov. 11, 1926, to the late Will and Gertrude Cardella Marshall Hardy, was a homemaker and a member of Senatobia Church of God.

She is preceded in death by two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband R.G. Boling of Como; one daughter Janice Boling Glover of Tunica; four sons, Larry Boling of Senatobia, Kenneth Boling of Tunica, Jimmy Boling of Sardis and Ricky Boling of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one brother Kenny Hardy of Rena Lara; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Bolton, Margie Elizabeth Campbell
Margie Elizabeth Campbell Bolton, 74, of Batesville, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North MS of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 10, at 10 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Blackjack cemetery. Rev. Alan Kilgore will officiate services. Wells Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Bolton, born icon August 16, 1928, to the late James Jefferson and the late Lois Griffis Campbell was a retired supervisor of Panola Mills and a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Bolton Krivacka of Moore, OK; two sons, Jimmy D. Bolton of Jonesboro, AR., and Ronnie L. Bolton of Batesville; four sisters, Robbie Campbell Hardy of Sardis, Jeffie Campbell and Betty Campbell Moore, both of Batesville, and Voncille Campbell Tarver of Oxford; two brothers, Sammie Campbell and James Campbell, both of Batesville; and 4 grandchildren.
