Gant, Clarcy Dell
Clarcy Dell Gant, 83, of Batesville, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bobby Caples officiated the services. Interment was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Gant, daughter of the late John Wesley and Erma Snipes Smith, was born
Oct. 19, 1919, in Lafayette County. She was the widow of Clifton Allen Gant. She was a retired ward clerk for North Panola Hospital in Sardis and was a Baptist.
Survivors include her daughter, Erma Gant Jenkins of Sardis; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.
Gardner, Johnny
Johnny Gardner, 61, of Chicago, Illinois, formerly of Batesville, died Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at Christ Hospital in Chicago of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 31, at 2 p.m. at Concord M.B. Church in Batesville. Rev. W. L. Nash officiated the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Cooley's Mortuary, Inc. had charge of arrangements.
Gardner, son of Jessie Littlejohn Gardner of Batesville and the late Charlie Gardner, was born
September 6, 1940, in Sardis. He was a retired sorter for UPS and a member of Great Canaan Baptist Church in Chicago, where he was a deacon. He was also a member of the men's choir, New Foundation Ministry, Sunday School teacher and communion ministry.
Survivors, other than his mother, include his wife, Janie Gardner of Chicago; four sons, Derrell Gardner, Joseph Gardner, Lank Kelly and Charles Robinson; three daughters, Sherron Gardner, Tamalyn Gardner Brown and Alyse Gardner McCarney; three brothers, Joe C. Gardner of Batesville, Willie Joe Gardner and Jerry Gardner; a sister, Annie Gardner of Batesville and 10 grandchildren.
Garner, B. H.
B. H. Garner, 75, of Batesville, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at his home of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 1, at 11 a.m. at Batesville Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. Jon Burnham officiated the service. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Garner, son of the late Martin and Vinnie Mae Pulliam Garner, was born
August 13, 1926, in Tunica. He was the retired administrator for the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a member of the Batesville Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon and elder. He was also a long time Boy Scout volunteer. He was preceded in death by a sister, Susimae Garner Mize.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Mai Commer Garner of Batesville; three sons, William Frank Garner and Andrew Kendrick Garner, both of Batesville, and Paul Martin Garner of The Woodlands, Texas; a brother, John Frank Garner of Tupelo; and five grandchildren.

Garner, William Russell Jr.
William Russell Garner, Jr., 67, of York, South Carolina, died Monday, October 7, 2002, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina, of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 10, at 11 a.m. at Central Baptist Church in York. Rev. Scott Cobb and Rev. Tom Tucker officiated the service. Burial was in Bethany A.R.P. Church cemetery in Clover, South Carolina. Bratton Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Garner, son of the late William R. Sr. and Louise Bragg Garner, was born
in Manilla, Arkansas. He was an insurance agent and past president of York County Underwriters Association. He was the state officer for S.C. Life Underwriters Association. He was a member of Gideons International and the York Lions Club. He was also a member of Central Baptist Church, where he taught the Seekers Sunday School class.
Survivors include his wife, Carroll Whitesides Garner of York; a son, Russell Alan Garner of York; three daughters, Janet G. Waldrep of Seneca, South Carolina, Lisa G. Ragon of Batesville, and Rebecca G. Ramsey of York; two sisters, Wanda G. Brown of Jacksonville, and Groria Belle G. Masterson of Cedar Town, Georgia; and seven grandchildren.

Dorothy Brimmer Gillett, 73, of Sardis, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 7, at 3 p.m. at Miles Chapel C.M.E. Church. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Gillett was a private home care worker and a member of McIvor M.B. Church, where she was an usher.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Gillett of Sardis; a daughter, Robbie Cooper of Sardis; five sons, Donald Thomas of Bangor, Maine, David Brimmer of Chicago, Illinois, Leroy Brimmer of Memphis, Tennessee, Jerry Brimmer of Sardis and Rodick Gordon of Southaven; a sister, Lizzie Wilken of Memphis; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Ginn, Reverend E. V. "Jack"
Reverend E. V. Ginn, 79, of Batesville, died Friday, November 1, 2002, at Baptist Memorial-North Mississippi in Oxford of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 4, at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Terry Tribble officiated the services. Interment was in the Shady Grove Baptist Church cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Ginn, son of the late Emmanuel V. and Stella R. Warad Ginn, was born
March 26, 1923, in Rector, Ark. He was proceeded in death by one daughter, Gayle Ann Ginn. He was a retired Baptist Minister, and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Synder Ginn of Batesville; two daughters, Sharon R. Ginn Grubbs of Jackson, and Iris K. Ginn Campbell of Bruce; three sons, Terry Lynn Ginn of Memphis, Tenn., Randy Ginn of Flint, Mich., and Tim Ginn of Batesville; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Golden, Robert W.
Mr. Robert W. Golden, 38, of Sardis, died Saturday, Nov. 16 at Baptist Memorial Hospital of heart failure.
Services were Nov. 21, 2 p.m. at Askew Grove M.B. Church. Internment was at Askew Grove cemetery. Rev. Walter Newson will officiate services. Cooley's Mortuary, Inc. had charge of arrangements.
Golden, son of Willie Golden and Erma Jean Walton, was born
Nov. 18, 1963, Como. He was disabled and a member of Askew Grove M.B. Church.
Survivors include his three sisters, Dorothy Burdette, Shirley Golden, both of Sardis, and Mae Linda Golden of Memphis, TN; four brothers, James Golden, Edward Golden, both of Longtown, Jerry Golden of Sardis, and Howard Mangrum of Memphis, TN.
Goodwin, Joann Reeves
Joann Reeves Goodwin, 64, of Batesville, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 16, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Batesville. Rev. Alan Kilgore and Dr. Robert E. Self officiated the service. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Goodwin, daughter of Mattie Clarkson Reeves of Batesville and the late William Frank Reeves, was born
April 19, 1937, in Pope. She was a receptionist and clerk at First Security Bank, where she was employed for 18 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors, other than her mother, include her husband, James Goodwin of Batesville; two sons, Kenny Goodwin of Senatobia and Lee Goodwin of Chicago, Illinois; and two grandchildren.

Gorman, Lee Roy
Lee Roy Gorman, 70, of Marks, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in Memphis, Tennessee, of respiratory failure.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 11, at 1 p.m. at Swan Lake Central Building in Jonestown. Rev. L. C. Tyler officiated the service. Burial was in St. James cemetery in Jonestown. Delta Burial Corporation had charge of arrangements.
Gorman was born
January 23, 1932, in Marks. He graduated from Coahoma Agricultural High School. He was a graduate of Alcorn State University, formerly Alcorn A & M College, and the University of Denver. He was a retired educator, and a member of North Delta Alumni Alcorn. He was also minister of music at Green Hill M.B. Church and served on the board of the General Baptist State Convention. He was the secretary of the Quitman County Concerned Senior Citizens, and financial auditor of the Quitman County Development Association Credit Union.
Survivors include his wife, Eva C. Gorman of Clarksdale; two daughters, Gwendolyn McClinton and Carla Dukes, both of Clarksdale; a son, Henry Childress of New Orleans, Louisiana; three sisters, Martha G. Mumford and Nancy G. Thomas, both of Marks, and Ruby G. Martin of Chicago, Illinois; and a brother, Johnny Gorman of Berrien Springs, Michigan.
Gorton, Ann Rue
Ann Rue "Cotton" Gorton, 94, of Marks, died Monday, February 11, 2002, at Grenada Lake Medical Center of heart failure following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 13, at 2 PM at Marks United Methodist Church. Rev. Charlie Simmons and Rev. Johnny Dinas officiated the service. Burial was in Marks cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Gorton, daughter of the late Walter Dewitt and Joseph Ann Crowson Gorton, was born
January 27, 1908, in Mississippi. She was a graduate of Delta State University, and taught in Clarksdale, Belzoni and Charleston schools. She was an avid golfer and a Girl Scout camp director for several area camps. She was a member of Marks United Methodist Church.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Green, Jewell Bell "Mother Jewell"
Jewell Bell "Mother Jewell" Green, 95, died Wednesday, October 30, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 2, at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Mr. Hal Johnson officiated the services. Burial was in Brazil cemetery in Brazil. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Green, daughter of the late John Thomas and Maude Melton Bell, was born, November 10, 1906, in Des Arc, Ark. She was the widow of James William Green.
Survivors include her two daughters, Mamie Nell Green Finger of Zapata, Texas, and Gene Green McCarty of Sardis; one sister, Norene Bell Childress of Brazil; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 14 great, great-grandchildren.
Greer, Dorothy West Ellison
Dorothy West Ellison Greer, 87, of Pensacola, Florida, formerly of Lambert, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, in Pensacola of heart failure.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m. at Oddfellow cemetery in Grenada. Rev. Greg Proctor officiated the service. Garner-Harper Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Greer, daughter of the late Howard and Bessie West Ellison, was born
February 12, 1915, in Lambert. She and her husband, Thomas, met while attending law school at the University of Memphis. They spent most of their married
years in Macon and Starkville. The past seven years they have resided in Homestead Village Estates in Pensacola. She was a member of the Episcopal Church, where she served in many lay capacities.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Thomas Hastings Greer of Pensacola; two daughters, Laura Greer Clapp of Florence and Dorothy Greer Tampary of Pensacola; a son, Tommy H. Greer, Jr. of Meridian; a sister, Bess Ferris of Nashville, Tennessee; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
