Griffin, Charlie B.
Charlie B. Griffin, 77, of Sardis, died Monday November 25, 2002, at his home in Sardis.

Services were Thursday November 28, 2002, at Macedonia M.B. Church. Interment was at Macedonia cemetery. Rev. Zannie Leland officiated services.

Griffin, son of the late Robert Griffin and the late Verna Clay, was born icon September 18, 1925, in Madison County. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, and retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Winnie L. Griffin of Sardis; two sons, Larry Clark of Sardis, and Patrick Clark of Drew; four daughters, Doris Clark, Aretha Aikens and Vivian Clark all of Senatobia and Joyce Clark of Crenshaw; one sister, Catherrino Henry of Canton, MS; 20 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Griffin, Jesse Owen
Jesse Owen 'Red' Griffin, 64, of Crowder, died Friday, March 1, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - North Mississippi in Oxford of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 3, at 2 PM at Crowder Baptist Church. Rev. James Clutter officiated the service. Burial was in Crowder cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Griffin, son of Lillie Mae Griffin of Crowder and the late James Owen Griffin, was born icon July 8, 1937, in Lambert. He was a retired plant foreman for Memphis Stone and Gravel and a member of Enon Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gidget Lynn Griffin; and two brothers, Gerald Griffin and Vernon Griffin.

Survivors, other than his mother, include his wife, Royliene Griffin of Crowder; a son, Todd Owen Griffin of Batesville; a sister, Cathe Swindoll of Batesville; four brothers, Roy Lynn Griffin of Crowder, J.W. Griffin of Pope, Larry Wayne Griffin of Walls and Sammy Lee Griffin of Southaven; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Enon Baptist Church or to Crowder Baptist Church.

Griffin, Otis C. Sr.
Otis C. Griffin, Sr., 72, of Batesville, died Thursday December 5, 2002 in Batesville.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 12, at Macedonia M.B. Church. Rev. Zannie Leland, Jr. officiated services. Interment was in the church cemetery. Cooley's Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

Griffin, son of Tossie Grant Stewart of Sardis, and the late Booker T. Griffin, was born icon February 2, 1930 in Panola County. He was a member of Macedonia M.B. Church.

Survivors in addition to his mother include, three sons Otis Griffin, Jr., of Batesville, Calvin Griffin of Corinth, Texas, and Dwight Griffin of Houston, Texas; six daughters; Barbara Bledsoe, Louvidia Clark and Annie Eckford, all of Batesville, Darlene Desallvo of Hampton, Va., Shely Griffin of Houston, Texas, and Aldonia Marshall, of Hattisburg; four brothers; James Griffin, Robert Griffin, and Terry Griffin, all of Batesville, and Tyrone Griffin of Chicago, Ill.; six sisters Rosie Lamar of Sardis, Vernell Cox of Batesville, Angie Crawford of Memphis, Tenn., Elnora Jefferson and Mary Moore, both of Chicago, and Rose Sweet of Washington, D.C.; 32 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Inlow, Betty Jane Beard
Betty Jane Beard Inlow, 73, of Memphis, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at Heartland of Memphis of cancer.

Services were Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Rose Hill cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Robert Hickey officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Inlow, born icon March 2, 1930, to the late Otis Lee Beard and Sarah Houston Beard, was a retired bookeeper for Union Planters Bank and a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include one sister Sara Beard Carter of Sardis; two brothers, Otis E. "Gene" Beard of Memphis and Robert H. "Bobby" Beard of Hernando; four nieces, two nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews.

Inman, Barney Earl Jr.
Barney Earl Inman Jr., 73, of Hernando, formerly of Sardis, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven.

Services were at Moore Funeral Chapel in Sardis. Rev. Jerry Sanford and Rev. Steven Sims officiated. Burial followed in Rose Hill cemetery in Sardis. Moore Funeral Home in Sardis was in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Elrod Inman of Hernando; two step-daughters, Cathy Still of Sardis and Pam Johnson of Batesville; four sons, Cliff Inman of Sardis, Tim Inman of Courtland, Peter Inman of Hernando, Chip Inman of Hernando and one step-son, Freddie Massey of Sardis; and two sisters, Mattie Dean Gray of Sardis and Dott Britt of Sardis; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ivy, Clarence L. "Buddy"
Clarence Ivy, 67, died Monday evening at his home of heart failure.

Services were Thursday at Victory Baptist Church in Batesville followed by interment at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Rev. E.K. Gordon, Rev. Richard Mills, and Rev. Bobby Watson officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

born March 17, 1935, in Cleveland to Clarence Oscar and Eula Virginia Cliffton Ivy, he was a retired service manager for Bluff City Buick of Memphis and Rebel Motors of Oxford, and was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Peggy Shipp Ivy of Batesville; two daughters, Ann Ivy Ashley of Lake City, Fla. and Teresa Morel of Cordova, Tenn.; two step-daughters, Joan Butler of Oxford and Susan Obert of Crestview, Fla.; three stepsons, Douglas Gooch of Naples, Fla., James E. Gooch, Jr. of Houston Texas, and John Robert Gooch of Ontario, Canada and 14 grandchildren.

Groner, Polly Williams
Polly Williams Groner, 70, of Charleston, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - East in Memphis, Tennessee, of a heart attack.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Charleston. Burial was in Marks cemetery at 3 p.m. Newsom Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Groner, the widow of the late George Groner, was born icon December 1, 1931. She was a retired school teacher.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Groner Moore of Ft. Worth, Texas; a son, David Groner of Charleston; two brothers, Harold Williams of Marks and Robert Williams of Tunica; and four grandchildren.

Haltom, Nina Mae Cook
Nina Mae Cook Haltom, 87, of Batesville, died Sunday, August 18, 2002, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 20, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Batesville. Rev. Don Bishop and Rev. Martin Case will officiate the service. Burial will be in Magnolia cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Haltom, daughter of the late John Cyril Sr. and Lula Mae Clifton Cook, was born icon November 16, 1914 in Zent, Arkansas. She graduated from the Baptist School of Nursing in Memphis, Tennessee. She was a registered nurse and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Batesville, where she was a member of the Truth Seekers Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Yellow Jackets, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), Band Boosters Club and the Batesville Garden Club. She was the widow of the late Oliver Dickins "Dick" Haltom.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Forrest "Bob" Haltom of Batesville, John Thomas "John" Haltom of Indianola, and Richard Carothers "Crick" Haltom of Kalamazoo, Michigan; three sisters, Norma Tune of Memphis, Tennessee, Jean Engler of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and Mary L. Reed of Toledo, Ohio; a brother, Thomas A. Cook of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Haltom Scholarship Fund, First United Methodist Church, Batesville, Miss.

Hammond, David Lloyd
David Lloyd Hammond, 33, of Como, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at UT-Bowld in Memphis, Tennessee, of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 15, at 1 p.m. at Simon Chapel No. 2 M.B. Church. Rev. Eugene Whiting officiated the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Hammond, son of R.G. Freeman of Senatobia and Katherine Hammond of Senatobia, was born icon September 30, 1968, in Mississippi. He attended Senatobia High School and was a mechanic. He was a member of Zion Hill M.B. Church in Senatobia.

Survivors, other than his parents, include his wife, Jean Hammond of Como; four daughters, Tiara King of Independence, Shanteshia Dandridge and Daneisha Hammond, both of Memphis, and Janona Hammond of Como; two sons, Davins Hammond of Memphis and Mauricras Bradley of Como; eight brothers, Brian Hammond, Brett Hammond, Plemon Hammond, all of Senatobia, Rieng Hammond, Darron Hammond, Ketrick Hammond Michael Hammond, and Ronnie Hammond, all of Como; and five sisters, Emily Hammond, Stacy Hammond, Becky Hammond, Stephanie Hammond and Debra Ramsey, all of Senatobia.

Haney, Howard Brown
Howard Brown Haney, 94, of Cleveland, formerly of Belen, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at his home of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 23, at 3 p.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery in Clarksdale. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Haney, son of the late Charlie and Emma Farbes Haney, was born icon March 3, 1908, in Eupora. He was a retired laundryman for Sunflower Laundry and Clarksdale Laundry. He was a member of Belen Baptist Church and a Marks Masonic Lodge member, where he was a master Mason.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wives, the late Ola Crocker Haney, and the late Charlene Chrestman Haney.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Haney of Cleveland; two stepsons, Harold Chrestman of Belen, and Tommy Chrestman of Cleveland; a sister, Myrtle McCleve of Hattiesburg; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Hankins, Ellnar
Ellnar Hankins, 85, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Batesville, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at her home of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 9, at 1 p.m. at Second Concord M.B. Church in Batesville. Rev. Jesse Turner officiated the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Cooley's Mortuary, Inc. had charge of arrangements.

Hankins, daughter of the late Robert Bunton and Sally Winters, was born icon October 13, 1916, in Oakland. She was a homemaker and a member of Second Concord M.B. Church. She was also a member of New Mt. Sinia M.B. Church in Memphis, where she was treasurer of the Senior Club, was a member of the choir, served on the Mother Board, and was an usher.

Survivors include a daughter, Marshell Austin of Memphis; 25 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, 12 great, great-grandchildren and two great, great, great-grandchildren.
