Karr, Jimmy C.
Jimmy "Jim" C. Karr, 55, of Thaxton, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at his residence of heart failure.

Services were Thursday at Dickins Chapel. Burial was at the Orwood cemetery in Batesville. Chaplain Allen Parnell officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Karr, born icon June 13, 1942, to the late Hubert Karr and the late Margaret Beard Karr, was a retired carpenter and a member of Sand Springs Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife Sara Lou Potts Karr of Thaxton; one son Jimmy Rogers of Batesville; one daughter Christy Hester of Batesville four sisters, Geraldine Puttman of Batesville, Anne K. McKee of Courtland, Janie Criddle of Isola and Sara Jaudon Tartt of Charleston; one brother Joe Bob Rodgers of Water Valley; and three grandchildren.

Kendrick, Grady L.
Grady L. Kendrick, 64, of Enid died Friday, May 2, 2003 in Enid.

Services are today at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial is at Camp cemetery in Amory. Brantley Funeral Home has charge.

Kendrick was retired from Inman Construction and an avid bass and crappie fisherman.

Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Kendrick; two daughters, Kathy Kendrick of Olive Branch and Susan Janes of Byhalia; one son Charles Kendrick of Memphis and one grandchild.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ketchum, Maggie Lou Bryant
Maggie Lou Bryant Ketchum, 80, of Ripley, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at North Mississippi Medical Center.

Services were Sunday at First Baptist Church in Ripley. Burial was at Little Hope cemetery. Dr. Albert Wilkerson officiated. Ripley Funeral Home had charge.

Ketchum, born icon to the late Carter Elijah Bryant and the late Nancy Leona Hannah Bryant, was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Ripley. She was preceded in death by two brothers Calvin and Elbert Bryant.

Survivors include her husband John T. Ketchum Jr. of Ripley; two daughters, Peggy J. Henry of Batesville and Gail M. Moody of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; two sons, Jimmy Ketchum of Nesbit and Michael Ray Ketchum of Memphis; three sisters, Irene Ketchum and Nylene Hurt, both of Ripley and Bertie Egondene Price of Etta; one brother Harmon Bryant of Ripley; four grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Key, Sarah Lou "Lucy"
Sarah Lou "Lucy" Key, 86, of Batesville, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at her residence.

Services are Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at Macedonia M.B. Church at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Second Concord cemetery - 4 Way in Batesville. Rev. J.A. Wilson. Cooley's Mortuary, Inc. has charge.

Key, born icon Dec. 19, 1916, to the late Frank Pittman, was a housewife and a member of Second Concord M.B. Church - 4 Way.

Survivors include five daughters, Jennie Pugh of Sledge, Josephine Hallman of Crowder, Elizabeth Booker, Lou Eddie Hall and Milvira Carson, all of Chicago; seven sons, James Booker, Roy Key, Michael Key, all of Batesville, Andrew Key of Falcon, Jimmie Key of Crenshaw, Odell Key of Chicago, Ill. and Tommie Lee Key of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sisters, Mary Liza Taylor and Nora Bell Nelson, both of Chicago, Ill.; 66 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; a host of great-great-grandchildren; a host of great-great-great-grandchildren.

Kitchell, Edward Marion
Edward Marion Kitchell, 90, of Como, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at North Oak Regional Medical Center in Senatobia.

Services were Saturday at Free Springs Methodist Church in Como. Burial was at Free Springs cemetery in Como. Rev. William "Todd" Lemmon officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Kitchell, born icon Feb. 18, 1913, to the late John Pharon Kitchell and the late Lula Bedenbaugh Kitchell, was a member of Free Springs Methodist Church and a retired mechanic for Jackson Implement Company.

He is preceded in death by his wife Annie Logan Kitchell.

Survivors include one son Luther D. "Bill" Winters of Hernando; one sister Louise K. Parker of Memphis and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Free Springs Methodist Church.

Koszyk, Walter Lewis
Walter Lewis Koszyk, 60, of Batesville, died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Corinth Rehab and Health Care Facility.

Services were Tuesday, July 1 at McPeters Chapel. Burial was at Corinth National cemetery. Bro. Tim Dixon officiated. McPeters Funeral Directors had charge.

Koszyk, born icon June 10, 1943, to the late Walter S. Koszyk, was a native of Chicago, Ill., a resident of Batesville since 1985 and a retired truck driver. Mr. Koszyk was of the Catholic Faith. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1960 until June 1966. A perfectionist with all tasks, he especially enjoyed caring for the lawn and gardening.

He is preceded in death by his father Walter S. Koszyk.

Survivors include his son Walter L. Koszyk and friend Chasity of Batesville; two daughters, Rebecca M. Brewer and husband Jeff and Kimberly Ann Lantrip and husband Keith, all of Batesville; one brother Michael Koszyk and wife Debbie of Chrystal Falls, Mich.; two sisters, Judy Koszyk of Chicago and Susan Greer and husband Dr. Michael of Palatine, Ill.; mother of his children and friend Diane Prescott Koszyk of Batesville, six grandchildren, Tim, Anthony, Bobby Jaco, Ashton Blaine Brewer, John Collins and Cameron Koszyk.

Ferguson, Irene Dickins
Irene Dickins Ferguson, 96, of Batesville, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial will be at Batesville-Magnolia cemetery. Rev. John Howell, Jr. will officiate. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Ferguson, born icon Dec. 3, 1906, to the late David Butts Dickins and the late Georgia Frances Bobo Dickins, was the retired co-owner of Dickins Funeral Home. Mrs. Ferguson had been active in many community and public service organizations over the years including the Batesville Woman's Club where she was a 50-year member and past district president and recording secretary of the Mississippi Federation of Woman's Clubs. She served on the official board of the First United Methodist Church, where she was a member and was past president of United Methodist Women and served on the Advisory Board of the Methodist Children's Home in Jackson.

The late Mrs. Ferguson served in many capacities with patriotic associations during her lifetime.

They included: Daughters of the American Revolution-serving as State Chaplain, State Treasurer, Delta District Director, Regent of James Gilliam Chapter, State Committee Chairman and Corridor Hostess at DAR Continental Congress in Washington, D.C.; Daughters of the American Colonist-Organizing Regent of John Buckner Chapter, Second Vice Regent, Treasurer, Corresponding Secretary, State Society Librarian; The Huguenot Society of the Founders of Monakin in the Colony of Virginia-Branch Treasurer; Dames of the Court of Honor-Charter member of Mississippi Branch, first and second vice-president; Colonial Dames XVII Century-State Chaplain, Second Vice President and Chaplain of Elizabeth Tilley Chapter. She was also a member of the Huguenot Society of South Carolina, National Society Daughters of Colonial Wars, Magna Charta Dames and Barons and The Order of Scottish Dames.

Survivors include one daughter Georgane Ferguson Love of Hattiesburg; one son Dan L. Ferguson, Jr. of Batesville; three grandchildren, Dale Kelly Love, Jr. of Lake Charles, La., Elizabeth Irene Ferguson of New Orleans, La. and Rev. Dana Ferguson Myers of Oak Park, Ill., and three great-grandchildren, Meagan Allie Love, Daniel Louis Meyers and Taylor Lamar Meyers.

The family requests that any memorials be sent to DAR Rosalie Mansion, P.O. Box 1392, Natchez, Miss. 39121, Batesville Magnolia cemetery or Methodist Children's Home.

Ferrell, Van Legge
Van Legge Ferrell, 79, of Sardis, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis of kidney failure.

Graveside services were Sunday at Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Kirt Germany officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Ferrell, born icon Dec. 24, 1923, to the late Burford and the late Mable Legge Ferrell, was retired from Red Mill Lumber Company. He was a member of the Baptist Church, American Legion and was a veteran of WWII.

Survivors include one daughter, Michelle Sladek of Kingsly, Mich.; two sons, Stephen Ferrell of Zeeland, Mich., and Randy Ferrell of Saginaw, Mich.; and four grandchildren.

Ferrell, William Joseph "Billy Joe"
William Joseph "Billy Joe" Ferrell, 72, of Sardis, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis of heart failure.

Services were Sunday at Sardis Church of Christ. Burial was at Forrest Memorial cemetery near Batesville. Hal Johnson officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Ferrell, born icon Nov. 15, 1930, to the late Burford Ferrell and the late Mable Legge Ferrell, was a member of the Sardis Church of Christ, an Elder and Treasurer and song leader of the church, president of the Lions Club and was in the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife Bernice Daws Ferrell of Sardis; two daughters, Susan Campbell of Senatobia and Joanna Bryant of Hernando; one son William C. Ferrell of Sacramento, Calif.; one sister Mildred Barnowski of Batesville; one brother Van Ferrell of Sardis and six grandchildren.

Fisher, Edna Elizabeth Erwin
Edna Elizabeth Erwin Fisher, 84, of Charleston died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Tallahatchie General Hospital in Charleston of heart failure.

Funeral services were Thursday at First Baptist Church in Charleston. Burial was at Magnolia Gardens. Rev. Mark Vincent and Rev. Truman Scarbrough officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Fisher, born icon May 8, 1918, to the late Charlie and Abbie Jones Erwin, was a retired salesperson and a member of First Baptist Church of Charleston.

Survivors include her husband Hubert R. Fisher of Charleston, and one sister Blanch Erwin Ellet of Charleston.

Haley, Glenna J.
Glenna J. Haley, 79, of Buffalo Gap, Texas, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at Hendricks Medical Center in Abilene, Texas, of natural causes.

Services are today at Buffalo Gap Church of Christ. Burial will be at the Buffalo Gap cemetery with military honors under the direction of North's Funeral Home in Abilene, Texas. Rev. Glen Dobbs is officiating.

Haley, born icon Oct. 11, 1923, was the widow of Jack L. Haley of Batesville. She returned to her hometown of Buffalo Gap shortly after his death in 1975. She was the daughter of the former Buffalo Gap mayor, Glenn E. Johnson and his wife Ella Harrison Johnson. Haley proudly served in the Pacific Theater with the United States Navy during World War II, as a gunnery instructor at Barber's Point in Hawaii. Immediately upon discharge from the military, she and Mr. Haley were married icon and settled in his home state of Mississippi. Haley, was a long time employee of The Panolian, a gifted artist, author, and actress. She was deeply involved in community affairs in Batesville, and was the primary co-founder of the Batesville Art Mart and Fall Fest. In her later years, she helped to establish and maintain The Buffalo Gap Roundup, Buffalo Gap's local newsletter, before illness forced her to retire. She was also a longtime member of the V.F.W. and was chosen Member of the Year on two separate occasions.

Survivors include a daughter Barbara Elliot of Pope; three sons, Scott Haley of Holly Springs, Mark Haley of Batesville and Glenn Haley of Abilene, Texas; three sisters, Joyce Glasgow and Peggy Brolls, both of Buffalo Gap, Texas and Loyce Campbell of Klamath Falls, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
