Haltom, John Thomas Sr.
John Thomas Haltom Sr., 60, of Indianola, died Friday, September 19, 2003, at Hospice Ministries.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. Burial is at Batesville Magnolia cemetery at a later date. Card Funeral Home has charge.

Haltom was a graduate of Mississippi State University, attended the University of Mississippi Law School, attended the National Judicial College in Reno, Nev., a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and the Sunflower County Bar Association. He served as a private attorney, as City Judge of Indianola for 17 years, and as Administrative Hearing Officer at the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman. He had also served as a Hearing Officer for the Employee Appeal Board. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Indianola, a member of Kiwanis Club, was a contributor to the Indianola Junior Basketball Association and sponsored a baseball player in little league. He often assisted his wife, Terry, in her work in welfare clients who needed a helping hand. His law background was also used in the same manner with needed pro bono work.

Survivors include his wife Terry Armstrong Haltom; one daughter Caroline Kathryn Gordon and husband Tom of Greenwood; one son John Thomas Haltom Jr. and wife Kerri of Downingtown, Pa.; two brothers, Robert F. "Bob" Haltom and wife Margaret of Batesville and Richard C. "Crick" Haltom and wife Colby of Kalamazoo, Mich. and two grandchildren Peyton Gordon and Samantha Haltom.

Hamilton, Bernard Gibson
Bernard Gibson Hamilton, 85, died Sunday, September 7, 2003, in Morehead, Ky.

A memorial service was Saturday, Sept. 13 on the campus of Morehead State University where he was a Professor of Languages for many years.

Hamilton was born icon in Franklin, Tenn. and spent his early childhood there before moving with his family to Enid.

Survivors include his wife Kozy Hamilton; two sons, Robert H. Hamilton of Atlanta, Ga. and Rick Hamilton of Nancy, Ky.; one daughter Rebecca Hamilton of Alva, Fla.; one sister Helen Nelson of Courtland; a host of nieces and a nephew.

Hamilton, Elizabeth Annie Mae
Elizabeth Annie Mae Hamilton, 88, of Batesville, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Batesville. Interment was at Shiloh cemetery in Courtland. Rev. J.N. Mobley officiated services. Cooley's Mortuary, Inc., was in charge.

Hamilton, born icon Sept. 7, 1914, to the late Nellie Rogers was a housewife and a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church. She was also a member of the Panola Chapter No. 2 Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include one son, Rainey Hamilton of Detroit, Mich.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Hamilton, Willie Ed "Fat"
Willie Ed "Fat" Hamilton, 72, of Batesville, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital- North Mississippi in Oxford.

Services were Saturday at Spring Hill A.S.A. M.B. Church in Courtland. Burial was at Spring Hill A.S.A. cemetery. Rev. Lewis Wilson officiated. Cooley's Mortuary had charge.

Hamilton, born icon Dec. 27, 1930, to the late Ed Wiley and the late Fannie Facette, was a retired laborer, a member of Spring Hill A.S.A. Church, an usher and a Mason, Batesville Lodge #11.

Survivors include his wife Ruth E. Hamilton of Batesville; one son Isiah Morris of Batesville; four brothers, Elijah Hamilton and Bobby Hamilton, both of Batesville, L.T. Hamilton of Memphis and Riley Jones of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Bertha Boyd and Jennie Hamilton, both of Memphis; one granddaughter whom he raised Renee Boyd of Batesville; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Hardin, Myrtle Young
Memorial services for Myrtle Young Hardin of Gulfport, were Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Batesville Magnolia cemetery.

Hardin, born icon to the late David Young and the late Ethel Wilkerson Young, was a nurse and a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Jo Harpole of Gulf Port, Faye Getzinger of Kansas City, Mo. and Ro Paslay of Dallas, Texas; one step-daughter Polly Nickles of Pass Christian.; one sister Ruby Denham of Ocean Springs; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Hardy, Ave Mae Murrah
Ave Mae Murrah Hardy, 96, of Sardis, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Tippo Methodist Church in Tippo. Burial is at Tippo cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home has charge.

She is preceded in death by her husband Elliot H. Hardy; four brothers; one sister; one granddaughter Christina D. Hardy and one son Glen Hardy.

Survivors include four daughters, Bonnie Betten of Bartlett, Tenn., Fay Tidwell of Charleston, DeLois Douglas of Parchman and Jimmy Laurderdale of Sardis; two sons, Bob Hardy and Ray Hardy, both of Tippo; two sisters, Loumetta Purvis of Crystal Springs and Orie Hicks of Baytown, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Hardy, Wayne Hamilton
Wayne Hamilton Hardy, 16, of Booneville, died Saturday, September 20, 2003, at Baptist Hospital in Booneville.

Services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc. Burial is at Pontotoc City cemetery. Rev. Ralph Mitchell will officiate.

He is preceded in death by his mother Glenda F. Hardy, a sister Lisa Gillespie and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Max Davis and Mr. Delain Hardy.

Survivors include his father Gary Hardy of Booneville; two sisters, Jodi Russell of Batesville and Christy Gillispie of Blue Springs and his grandmother Robbie Hardy of Sardis.

Harris, Beulah
Beulah Harris, 83, of Sardis, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services were Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Shiloh Methodist Church in Sardis. Burial was at Shiloh cemetery in Sardis. Rev. George Bowen officiated. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Directors had charge.

Harris, born icon Dec. 8, 1919, to the late George and the late Betty Lee Harris, was a member of Shiloh C.M.E. Church and a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by three children, James Harris, Earl Salter and Fannie Salter.

Survivors include one daughter Betty Harris of Sardis; three sons, Charles (Jeanette) Harris of East Moline, Ill., Jimmy Ree Harris and Joe Harris, both of Sardis; three sisters, Maudie Pride of Crenshaw, Ora Burkley of Jacksonville, Fla. and Flora Hunter of East Malone, Ill.; one brother Donell Harris of East Malone, Ill.; her niece who cared for her Mary Harris; 25 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Harris, Essie Faye Kimble
Essie Faye Kimble Harris, 51, of Coffeeville, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003.

Services were Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Mt. Moriah District Association in Coffeeville. Burial was at Green Goshen C.M.E. Church cemetery in Water Valley. Rev. Theodis Austin officiated. Water Valley Funeral Home had charge.

Harris, was a member of Green Goshen C.M.E. Church.

Survivors include her husband Claude Harris; one daughter Claudia Harris and one son Jaworski Harris.

Harris, Jessie
Jessie Harris, 80, of Sardis, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of a heart attack.

Services were Wednesday at New Rock Hill M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial was at Harmonia cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Harlene Harris officiated. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.

Harris, born icon to the late John Harris and late Easter Carter Harris was a farmer and member of New Rock Hill M.B. Church in Sardis.

Survivors include his wife Hattie Harris of Sardis; eight sons, Frank Hunt, J.C. Hunt, and James Harris all of Sardis, Willliam Harris of Kansas City, Mo., Terry Harris and Willie Hunt both of Kansas City, Kan., Danny Harris of Grenada and Ronnie Harris of Batesville; four daughters, Easter Battle, Callie Hunt, Maggie Jacobs and Baunita Bradford all of Sardis; 30 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Harris, Margaret See Carothers (Seeky)
Margaret See Carothers Harris (Seeky), 89, of Batesville, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Highland Home in Ridgeland.

Services were Saturday at First United Methodist Church followed by graveside services at Batesville Magnolia cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Harris, born icon Nov. 20, 1913, to the late John Boothe and the late Leona Lewis Carothers, was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she served on the Administrative Board, a member of the United Methodist Women and Truth Seeker's Class, participated in the Explorer's Bible study, a member of the Friends of the Library and was retired from the Bank of Batesville, now known as Union Planters Bank.

She is preceded in death by her husband Richard L. Harris.

Survivors include one son Richard L. Harris Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter Margaret H. Mason of Madison; three sisters, James C. Herron of Batesville, Sara Vance of Batesville and Nan Fontentot of Metairie, La.; one brother Smylie Carothers of Basken, La.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 797, Batesville or the charity of your choice.

Harvey, Earlene R.
Earlene R. Harvey, 71, of Southaven, formerly of Sledge, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Baptist East Hospital in Southaven.

Services were at Lake View M.B. Church in Askew. Rev. H.P. Washington officiated. Burial followed in Lake View cemetery in Falcon. Cooley's Mortuary in Batesville was in charge.

Harvey was born icon May 30, 1931, to the late Eddie Rushing and the late Carrie Young in Lake Cormorant.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Harvey of Memphis; three sons, Kerry Harvey of Sardis, Michael Harvey of New Orleans, La. and James Harvey of Germany; five daughters, Joyce Lewis of Southaven, Ida Zeno of Batesville, Rosie Harris of Sardis, Susie Tabor of Crenshaw, and Ulonder Partee of Sledge; two brothers, Eddie Rushing Jr. of Falcon and Joe Rushing of St. Louis, Mo.; 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
