Sanford, Frieda Claussen
Frieda Claussen Sanford, 92, of Lambert, died Friday, June 14, 2002, at Bolivar County Hospital in Cleveland, of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 17, at 4 p.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Bro. Charles Langford officiated the service. Burial was in Marks cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Sanford, daughter of the late Murray James and Maud Ethel Womack Claussen, was born icon October 8, 1909, in Tutwiler. She graduated from Lambert High School in 1927. She attended Mississippi State College for Women and graduated from Delta State University with a degree in elementary education and a masters degree in education. She first taught school near Magnolia. She taught in Darling, Marks and Oakland before retiring from Lambert. She also taught kindergarten in Memphis, Tennessee, and Marks. She was a member of Lambert Christian Church. She was the widow of the late William Earl Sanford.

Survivors include two daughters, Jonett Sanford Valentine of Cleveland and Mary Catherine "Cissy" Collins of Douglasville, Georgia; a son, William Murray Sanford of Woodstock, Georgia; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Delta State University in Cleveland, or to French Camp.

Daprato, Mary "Kitty" Russell
Mary "Kitty" Russell DaPrato, 72, of Sardis, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North MS of heart failure.

Funeral services Friday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Interment was at Forrest Memorial Park. Father Leonard Oglesby officiated services. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

DaPrato, born icon July 8, 1930, in Thaxton, Miss. to the late Marvin Alexander and the late Salley Denton Russell, was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Batesville.

Survivors include one daughter, Pamela DaPrato Sherwood of Sardis; one son, Richard A. DaPrato, Jr. of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Bettye Russell Kelly and Sue Russell Slaughter, both Sardis; four brothers, Bob Lauderdale of Bay St. Louis, Miss., Bobby Russell of Sardis, Jackie Russell of Clarksdale, and Bill Russell of Oxford; a stepmother, Faye Lauderdale Russell of Sardis; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband M.GY. SGT. Richard A. DaPrato, USMC, RET.

Rosary was said at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wells Funeral Home.

Darby, Daymond
Daymond Darby, 59, of Forrest City, Ark., died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Greenwood Leflore County Hospital in Greenwood.

Services were Saturday at Dickens Chapel, Batesville, with interment at Oak Hill cemetery in Enid. Rev. C.H. Newcomb officiated. Dickens Funeral Home had charge.

Collins, born icon March 6, 1943, to the late Curtis Darby and the late Ethel Jackson Darby, was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Fay Cobb Darby of Forrest City, Ark.; two sons, Donnie Darby of Sardis and Timothy Darby of Courtland; two daughters, Edna Cadena of Courtland and Theresa Darby of Courtland; two brothers, James Alexander of Southaven, and Raymond Darby of Enid; one sister, Geneva Darby of Jackson and 10 grandchildren.

Davis, Billy Joe
Billy Joe Davis, 74, of Como, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz. of heart failure.

Services were at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Memorial Park cemetery in Memphis. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Davis, born icon Sept. 10, 1928, to the late Elmer David and the late Jewel Leslie Woodyard Davis was a retired yardmaster for ICG Railroad.

Survivors include three daughters Joey Lynne Davis of Cordova, Tenn., Charlie Jean Davis of Newnan, Ga. and Rebecca J. McLarty of Senatobia and one granddaughter Elizabeth McLarty of Senatobia.

Memorials may be sent to Patronato San Xavier, P.O. Box 522, Tucson, Ariz. 85702.

Davis, Katherine Sandridge
Katherine Sandridge Davis, 66, of Coldwater, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at her residence.

Services are Saturday at Second Baptist M.B. Church in Coldwater at 12 p.m. Burial is at Second Baptist cemetery in Coldwater. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

Davis was a choir member and director, a Sunday school teacher, a financial clerk, secretary of the church Missionary Society and had many other church duties.

Survivors include one daughter Vanessa Wilbourn of Coldwater; one sister Sarah Farmer of Coldwater; three brothers, David Sandridge of Coldwater, Willie Sandridge of Ruleville and Dewitt Sandridge of Coldwater; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Davis, Pamela M.
Pamela M. Davis, 62, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at her residence.

Services were Monday at Caruth Village Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Bruce Burdick officiated. Caruth Village Funeral Home had charge.

Davis, born icon Dec. 21, 1940, to James Wesley and Bess (Cox) Myers, was a member of Village Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband Edward C. Davis of Hot Springs Village, Ark. and one sister Cynthia Delk of Houston, Texas.

Memorials may be made to Lion's World Services for the Blind or Village Christian Church.

Davis, William Louis
William Louis Davis, 76, of Coffeeville, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North of heart failure.

Services will be today at Springdale Family Worship Center beginning at 5 p.m. Seven Oaks Funeral Home has charge.

Davis was a welder.

Survivors include two daughters, Renee Robertson and Tina Robertson, both of Coffeeville; two sons, Anthony W. Davis of Coffeeville and David Fuller of Water Valley. He is preceded in death by his brother Doodle Davis.

Davis, William (Bill) Newton
William (Bill) Newton Davis, 69, of Como, died Sunday, January, 5, 2003, in Memphis, Tenn. of liver disease.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 10:30 a.m. at Como Methodist Church. Interment was at Friendship cemetery in Como. Mid-South Mortuary Service had charge of local arrangements.

Davis, born icon Sept. 16, 1933, in Batesville, Miss. to the late Issac Newton Davis and the late Louise LeMaster was a retired bank president.

Davis graduated from Como High School in 1951.

He then attended Mississippi State his freshman year on a basketball scholarship and then attended the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

He served in the 3rd Division Army Artillery at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and Ft. Benning, Georgia as 1st lieutenant.

He was a member of the Mississippi National Guard and served as Captain and Unit Commander in Batesville from 1958 to 1963.

He served as Vice-President of North Mississippi Savings and Loan in Hernando in the early 70s.

When in Desoto County was just beginning to blossom, Davis was one of the first to locate on Goodman Road in Southaven with a bank, New South Bank.

Davis served as President of this bank along with the State Bank of Como and the Bank of Crenshaw.

His last few years in banking were spent with Peoples Bank in Batesville and Sardis serving as a senior executive.

He played golf and was a former president of Panola Country Club, where he promoted local tournaments.

He was a big "Ole Miss" basketball fan and a bird hunter. Davis spent many cold mornings in a duck blind in the Mississippi Delta and in Arkansas.

People came from miles around to get a lesson on calling ducks from him.

He also knew where just about every covey of quail in Panola County was located along with every brim bed.

He was a member of the Como United Methodist Church, serving on the finance commission and pastor parish commission.

Survivors include his wife Anne Davis of Como; two daughters, Louise Davis of Orlando, Fla., Suzanne Brandon of Memphis, Tenn., one son, Newt Davis of Sardis, one sister Ann Lyman of Batesville, and five grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Como United Methodist Church, Como, Miss. 38619.

Dean, Dan Jr.
Dan Dean Jr., 55, of Sardis, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at his residence of natural causes.

Services were Wednesday at Pleasant Green M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. W.O. McKinny officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Green M.B. Church cemetery.

Dean, born icon Nov. 3, 1947, to Dan Dean and Elmer O. Oliver, was a construction worker and a member of Pleasant Green M.B. Church.

Survivors include his wife Ida Dean of Sardis; one daughter Patricia Spearman of Coffeeville; three sons, James Dean, Michael Dean, both of Sardis and Greg Harmon of Kansas City and seven sisters.
