Sardis, MS - Vadis B. Allred, 87, of Sardis, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Graceland Nursing Home in Oxford of heart failure.

Services were Monday at Hollywood Baptist Church in Sledge. Burial was in Longtown cemetery in Crenshaw. Rev. Mike Allred, Rev. Roy Hartzell and Mr. Joe Barnett officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Allred, born icon Nov. 14, 1916, to the late Esker and late Lottie Mae Inman Blount, was a homemaker and a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.

Surviors include her husband Travis Allred of Sardis; five daughters, Barbara Nell Allred Potts of Batesville, Peggy Allred Barber of Senatobia; Patsy Allred Turner and Judy Allred Parker, both of Leland and Denise Allred Glover of Red Bay, Ala.; four sons, Caris Allred of Tupelo, Troy Allred of Sardis, Ronnie Allred of Jonesboro, Ark. and Mickey Allred of Southaven; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 19 great great-grandchildren.

Anderson, J.B. "Rabbit"
Batesville, MS - J.B. "Rabbit" Anderson, 83, of Batesville, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at his residence.

Services were Tuesday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery in Batesville. Rev. E.K. Gordon and Rev. Doug Pepper officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Anderson, born icon Aug. 6, 1920, to the late Jesse Lee and late Lym Mae Eley Anderson, was a retired Panola County Supervisor and a member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie Shipp Anderson of Batesville; four sons, Eley Kenny Anderson, Robert Darrin Anderson and Bobby Bates Anderson, all of Batesville and Jessie Bates "Jay" Anderson of Ringgold, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

All memorials may be made to Mt. Olivet cemetery, 159 Hunt Rd. Batesville, MS 38606.

Appleton, William Brooks
William Brooks Appleton, 61, of Batesville, died Monday, September 20, 2004, at The University Medical Center in Jackson of heart failure.

Appleton, born icon Aug. 8, 1943, to the late James A. and Mary B. Martin Appleton, was a member of First Baptist Church of Sardis and a former construction worker.

Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cold Springs cemetery. Rev. Jerry Sanford officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include his wife Miriam Elaine Whitehurst Appleton of Batesville; two daughters, Caralene Appleton Meadows of Sardis and Amber Lynn Appleton of Batesville; one step-daughter Cynthia E. Hayels of Batesville; one step-son Casey Easley of Brookhaven; two sisters, Maxine Appleton Perkins of Washington, Ill. and Patricia Appleton Segars of Batesville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Arnold, Elizabeth Seabrook
Elizabeth Seabrook Arnold, 97, widow of the late Capt. Malcolm W. Arnold, USN of Batesville, passed away on March 27, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville. Mrs. Arnold was born icon Jan. 29, 1907, in Fairfield, Pa. She was a graduate of Hood College in Frederick, Md. and a 1929 graduate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in Baltimore, Md. She met her late husband while he was in medical school at Johns Hopkins and they married icon in 1931 after both had been graduated.

Dr. Arnold entered the Navy Medical Corps in 1931 and Mrs. Arnold became a homemaker during her husband's 34 year naval career. She made a home for her family in many different locations including Washington, D.C., Annapolis, Md., Agana, Guam, Gulfport, MS, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, St. Albans, N.Y and several others.

Mrs. Arnold was a resident at Fairfield of Batesville for the past two years. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Margaret Kessel of Fairfield, Pa., two sons, Malcolm Wesley Arnold Jr. of Batesville and Kenneth Hamilton Arnold of Seattle, Wash., six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Interment will be at the Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Va. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church at 119 Panola Ave., Batesville, MS 38606

Arnold, Ruthie "Ruth" Pritchard
Batesville, MS - Ruthie Pritchard Arnold, 58, of Batesville, died Friday, April 30, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.

Services were Sunday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Batesville-Magnolia cemetery. Rev. Jess Chadwick officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Arnold, born icon Dec. 10, 1945, to the late Paul G. Pritchard and Margaret Finch Pritchard of Sardis, was an employee trainer for servers at Cracker Barrell in Batesville.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband Larry Arnold of Batesville; one son Lawrence "Larry" Arnold of Saint Marys, Ga.; one daughter Teresa Towles of Batesville; four brothers, Paul Gaines Pritchard and Jimmy Pritchard, both of Worth, Ill., Harold Pritchard of Cordova, Tenn. and Dale Pritchard of Batesville; and five grandchildren.

Bailey, Jacqueline Bland
Jacqueline Bland Bailey, 71, of Batesville, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at her son's residence.

Services were Monday at Locke Station Baptist Church in Batesville. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Rev. Eugene Howell officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Bailey, born icon Nov. 21, 1932, to the late Allen Smith Bland and Gemell Burchfield Bland, was a homemaker and a member of Locke Station Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband James W. Bailey of Locke Station; four sons, Jimmy Dale Bailey and Randy Lee Bailey, both of Courtland, James Roy Bailey of Marks and Reggie Don Bailey of Senatobia; six sisters, Elouise Williams and Mary Nell Rosemond, both of Batesville, Helen Griffin of Marks, Glenda Bland of Crowder, Lois Daniels of Bartlett, Tenn. and Betty Ann Sanders of Munford, Tenn.; two brothers, William Bland and Lewis Bland, both of Sledge; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Bailey, John Thomas
John Thomas Bailey, 53, formerly of Sardis, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven.

Memorial services were Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Moore Funeral Home. Rev. Ray Legge officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Bailey, born icon July 23, 1950, to the late James Bailey and Edith Jackson Bailey, was a Baptist and a self-employed house painter.

Survivors include his caregiver Phyllis Robinson of Olive Branch; two daughters, Jill Cavender of Conway, Ark. and Brooke Johnson of Cabot, Ark.; one son Brian Bailey of Collierville, Tenn. his mother Edith Bailey of Batesville; one brother Bobby Bailey of Sardis; and four grandchildren.

Baker, Alvie Sanders
Pope, Miss. - Alvie Sanders Baker, 90, of Pope, died Saturday, June 26, 2004.

Services were Tuesday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Chapel Hill cemetery in Pope. Rev. David Waits officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Baker, born icon Nov. 29, 1913, to the late William Alexander and Emma Crowder Sanders, was a homemaker and a member of The Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter Carolyn Kilgore of Holcomb; and one grandchild.

All memorials may be made to Chapel Hill cemetery Fund. She was preceded in death by her husband Odie Baker.

Banks, Roosevelt Jr.
Roosevelt Banks Jr., of Sardis, died Monday, August 16, 2004, at his residence.

Services are Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Percyville Church of Christ in Sardis. Burial will be at Mt. Level cemetery in Como. Brother Sam Curry will officiate. Cooley's Mortuary has charge.

Banks, born icon Sept. 25, 1958, to the late Roosevelt Banks Sr. and the late Christine Davis Banks, was a supervisor for Pro Pack and National Guardman, a member of the Percyville Church of Christ and active in Det. 1, HHC, 2/198th AR. BN.

Survivors include his wife Caroline Banks of Sardis; four sons, Shun Banks of Memphis, Tenn., Cedric Lloyd and Nicholas Jones, both of Como and Montrale Pegues of Senatobia; one daughter Auynna L. Jackson of Sardis, William Banks Sr. of Memphis, Tenn., John H. Banks and Joe Junior Banks, both of Sardis; five sisters, Mary Ann Clay of Sardis Mattie Ferguson of Memphis, Tenn., Herdia Henderson of Sardis, Sally Davis of Sardis and Susie Davis of Holly Springs and seven grandchildren.

Barber, Lavelle Galloway
Sarah, Miss. - Lavelle Galloway Barber, 52, of Sarah, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Regional Medical Center in Memphis of heart failure.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Strayhorn Baptist Church in Strayhorn. Burial is in Truslow cemetery in Sarah. Wells Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Barber, born icon May 10, 1952, in Elaine, Ark. to the late Harold and the late Laura Mae Conaway Galloway, was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband John Wayne Barber of Sarah; two daughters, Margaret Self Frazier of Crenshaw and Pauline Self Hudspeth of Dundee; one son John Henry Self of Senatobia; three brothers, Wayne Galloway of Humbolt, Tenn., Dale Galloway of Halls, Tenn. and Herman Galloway of Longtown; and nine grandchildren.

Barnes, Elizabeth Pearl Faust
Marks, MS - Elizabeth Pearl Faust Barnes, 71, of Marks, died Tuesday, May 8, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services were Tuesday at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Burial was in Marks cemetery. Rev. James Tidwell officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Barnes, born icon Nov. 22, 1932, was a member of First Baptist Church in Marks and a retired florist.

Survivors include one son Dale Barnes Jr. of El Paso, Texas; one daughter Genie Collier of Courtland; two brothers, Gene Faust Jr. of Lambert and Billy Faust of Marks; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Barnes, John Thomas Jr.
John Thomas Barnes Jr., 61, of Hephzibah, Ga., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Eisenhower Hospital in Fort Gordon, Ga. of heart failure.

Graveside services are Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Forrest Memorial cemetery in Batesville. Rev. Billy Carroll of Hephzibah, Ga. will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Barnes, born icon Mar. 20, 1942, to Gladys Mae Tedford and the late John Thomas Barnes Sr., was an officer with the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicle Safety and a retiree of U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife Mary E. Bevell Barnes of Hephzibah, Ga.; two daughters, Angela Barnes Drew of San Antonio, Texas and Shelley Barnes Rosier of Clarkesville, Tenn.; his mother Gladys Mae Tedford Barnes of Batesville; four brothers, Larry Barnes of Iowa, Jimmy Barnes and Dean Barnes, both of Batesville and Billy Barnes of Macon, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.
