Marizett, Rev. Eugene
Lincoln, Neb. (formerly of Memphis) - Rev. Eugene Marizett, 78, of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Memphis, Tenn., died Sunday in Lincoln.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Greater Mount Moriah Baptist Church with burial in West Tennessee Veterans cemetery. Harrison's Funeral Home Orange Mound Chapel has charge.

He was a World War II Army veteran, former member of Olivet Baptist Church, Memphis Ministerial Association and Sardis (Miss.) District Ministerial Association, and former pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Courtland, Miss. for 26 years, and Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Sardis.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy V. Marizett, of Lincoln; a daughter, Dr. Gwendolyn M. Combs of Lincoln; seven sisters, Josephine Collins of Detroit, Alberta Griffin of Southfield, Mich., and Mary Davis, Idella Marizett, Annie Marizett, Diane Marshall and Susie Marizett, all of Peoria, Ill.; two brothers, Henry Marizett of Peoria and Jackie Marizett of Greenville; a niece whom he raised, Harriet Huggins of Memphis; a son-in-law who took care of him, Dr. Michael Combs of Lincoln, and three grandchildren.

Marquis, JoAnn Towles Joyner
JoAnn Towles Joyner Marquis, 58, of Batesville, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at University Hospital in Jackson of heart failure.

Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was at Peachcreek cemetery in Sardis. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Marquis, born icon Aug. 3, 1945, to Anna Williams and the late Joe Towles, was a seamstress.

Survivors include one daughter Cindy Joyner Whitten of Courtland; his mother Anna Williams Towles of Batesville; one brother Jimmy Towles of Batesville; and a grandson John Mark Whitten.

Marshall, Brenda Joyce
Brenda Joyce Marshall, 59, of Como, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at Cordova Rehab in Cordova, Tenn. of heart failure.

Services were Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Sardis. Burial was in Harmontown Baptist cemetery near Como. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Marshall, born icon Jan. 31, 1945, was a member of Harmontown Baptist Church and a cashier for Wal-Mart.

Survivors include one daughter Tamara Lynn Robertson of Como; two sons, William T. Marshall Jr. of Horn Lake and David Guyton Marshall of Como; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Thomas Marshall Sr.

Martin, William A. "Bill"
William A. "Bill" Martin, 75, of Batesville, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Baytown, Texas.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Methodist Church cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Martin, born icon Aug. 23, 1928, to the late Archie Lance and the late Elsie Gladys Young Martin, was retired from MDOT and a member of Central Academy Church of Christ.

Survivors include four sisters, Margie Martin Copeland of Laurel, Betty Martin Mathews of Como, Laverne Martin Darby of Batesville and Carol Martin Maughn of Arkabutla; two brothers, Wesley Martin of Houston, Texas and Bob Martin of Memphis.

He was preceded in death by his wife Monty Bradley Martin.

Mason, Abbie Lorene Gant
Abbie Lorene Gant Mason, 81, of Batesville, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Dickins Chapel in Batesville. Burial will be at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Rev. Bob Wilcutt will officiate. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Mason, born icon Mar. 21, 1922, to the late Donnie Floyd and the late Bessie Virginia Kelly Gant, was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son Malcolm W. Mason Jr. of Coldwater; three daughters, Betty Mason Hubbard of Sardis, Lois Mason Suiter of West Memphis and Gail Mason Briggs of Collerville; and five grandchildren.

Mason, Lucille Moore
Lucille Moore Mason, 90, of Batesville, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at her residence.

Services were Sunday at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Batesville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Terry Tribble officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Mason, born icon Sept. 14, 1913, to Thomas Dalton and Clemmie Rowsey Moore, was a homemaker and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Dan Mason and Charles Mason, both of Oxford, Richard Mason and Roy Mason, both of Batesville; five daughters, Clemmie Bay and Deborah Johnson and Jessie Faulkner, all of Batesville, Hattie Groner of Courtland and Linda Satchfield of Southaven; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.

All memorials may be made to Shady Grove cemetery, 1638 Shady Grove Rd., Batesville, MS 38606. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Mason.

Massie, James Russell
James Russell Massie, 82, of Sardis, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at his daughter's residence of cancer.

Massie, born icon July 8, 1922, to the late Aurthur Lee and Lucy Perkins Massie, worked for the Soil Conservation Service for 33 1/2 years, was a farmer, a member of First Baptist Church and deacon of First Baptist Church. He was an Air Force Veteran of WWII, former prisoner of war for six months and was the Mayor of Sardis for eight years.

Graveside services were Thursday at Rose Hill cemetery in Sardis. Burial was also in Rose Hill cemetery. Rev. Jerry Sanford officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include his wife Marie Wardlaw Massie of Sardis; one daughter, Carol Massie of Cordova, Tenn.; one son Arthur Massie of Sardis; one brother Harry Massie of Hernando and two grandchildren, Cole and Jeremy Massie of Sardis.

Mathenia, Mary Ann Ingram Williams
Mary Ann Ingram Williams Mathenia, 61, of Senatobia, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford of heart failure.

Services were Saturday at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Courtland. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Rex Wilbourn and Rev. Brian Nance officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Mathenia, born icon Sept. 27, 1942, to the late Otis and late Dora Gee Woods Ingram, was a bank teller for First Security Bank in Batesville and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Senatobia.

Survivors include her husband John Mathenia of Senatobia; two daughters, Debbie Williams Tidwell of Batesville and Mona Lisa Williams Blount of Como; one step-daughter Teresa White of Senatobia; one step-son Stephen Mathenia of Parkin, Ark.; one sister Susie Stewart of Batesville; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by her step-father Harry W. Gee.

May, Myrtle Lois
Myrtle Lois May, 95, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Batesville, died Sunday, August 8, 2004 after a long illness.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Jacksonville, Fla., in the Chapel at Community Hospice of Northeast, Fla. at The Hadlow Center on Sunbeam Road. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Magnolia cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

May served on the Florida Christian Center Resident Council, where she was a floor monitor and an avid volunteer logging over 4, 000 hours in various areas of service. As a part-time member of the Florida Christian Staff, she worked the front reception desk for eight years. She was an active member of the Normandy Park Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Eugene May and her granddaughter Sharon Ann Morgan Parker.

Survivors include two daughters, Lois E. Anthony and Norma Jean May, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son Don May of Minot, N.D., three grandchildren; sixgreat- grandchildren; two great, great-grandchildren; one sister Kathrine Harbin of Gore Springs; a niece Merle Darby of Courtland; a nephew Glen May of Holcomb; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida at 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.

McCain, Charles Eddie Jr.
Charles Eddie McCain Jr., 76, of Batesville, died Jan. 23, 2004, at his residence of cancer.

Services were Thursday at Concord M.B. Church in Batesville. Burial was at Concord cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home had charge.

McCain was a member of Concord Church where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher and former Sunday School superintendent. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. He was a farmer with MDOT.

Survivors include his wife Earnestine Cooper McCain of Batesville; six daughters, Arnetta M. Brown, Phyllis R. Draper and Cynthia L. McCain, all of Batesville, Cornelia M. Willis of Houston, Texas, Cecelia R. Harrington of Matanan, N.J. and Debbie Wesley of Long Meadow, Ma.; four sons, Major Charles E. McCain of Hampton, Va., Major Edwin D. McCain of Montgomery, Ala., John G. McCain of Courtland and Eric N. McCain of Batesville; five sisters, LaJoyce Dixon of Evanston, Ill., Joyce Lightner and Bernice Clay, both of LaGrange, Ill, Vivian Henderson of Memphis and Anna J. Chapman of Batesville; four brothers, Charles McCain of Bowling Brook, Ill., Dabney McCain and Danny McCain, both of Lynchburg, Va. and Arthur Roy Thomas of Batesville; and nine grandchildren.

McCain, Robert Edward
Smithville, MS - Robert Edward McCain, 67, of Smithville, formerly of Batesville, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Services were Thursday at Smithville Funeral Home. Burial was in Young Memorial Gardens in Smithville. Rev. Ryan Musgrove and Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiated. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Smithville was in charge.

McCain was born icon Sept. 12, 1936, to the late Ethel Columbus and Agnes Aline Boyett McCain. He was a veteran of the United States Army and worked in the transportation business as a truck driver employed by Amory Garment Company for many years until his retirement. He was a Baptist and enjoyed yard work.

Survivors include his wife, Frances McCain of Smithville; three sons, Robert E. McCain II of Amory, Richard McCain and Ronnie McCain, both of Smithville; one brother Michael Wayne McCain of Curtis; seven sisters, Mary Harris of Como, Bessie Henry and Glenda Jeffcoat, both of Batesville, Sarah White of Memphis, Peggy Ann Bailey of Pope, Patricia Jean Ingram of Dallas, Texas and Lisa Alford of Curtis; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Randall S. McCain.
