Morris, James David "Jay"
James David Morris, 78, of Oakland, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Hospital in Batesville.

Services were Sunday at Dickins Funeral Home of Batesville at 2 p.m. Bro. Charles Locke officiated. Burial was in Lambert cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Morris, born icon May 10, 1925, in Henry County, Tenn. to the late Arthur and the late Nola Newport Morris, was a member of Westside Baptist in Murray, Ken.

Survivors include his wife, Annette Horn Morris of Oakland; and two sisters, Laura Morris and Gertie Nell Morris of Euless, Texas.

Morris retired in 1993 from Continental Airlines, International Desk, Houston, Texas after 38 years. Morris was a WWII Veteran, serving in Europe.

He was a graduate of UT in Knoxville and Dallas/Ft. Worth theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas.

Morris was an advocate to Beth Yeshua Hamashiach Messianic Congregation, Houston; Nueva Vida En Jesus Baptist Church in Laredo, Texas and Mississaga Chinese Baptist Church in Canada. Morris also had a jail ministry in Murray.1

Morris, Michael "Smitty"
Courtland, MS - Michael "Smitty" Morris, 28, of Courtland, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.

Services are today at Nelson Chapel M.B. Church at 1 p.m. in Pope. Burial will be in Nelson Chapel cemetery. Rev. Archie Cook will officiate. Cooley's Mortuary, Inc. has charge.

Morris, born icon Nov. 27, 1975, to Joe Eddie Morris and Lillie Morris, was a truck driver for Deviney Construction Co. and a member of Nelson Chapel M.B. Church.

Survivors include his mother Lillie Morris of Courtland; grandmother Annie Lee Smalley of Enid; companion Alice Faye Clark of Courtland; five sisters, Margaret Morris of Sardis, Brenda Morris of Enid, Annie Morris and Shelia Morris, both of Batesville and Juanita Morris of Courtland; four brothers, Randy Morris and Gary Morris, both of Courtland, Robby Joe Morris of Sardis and Mark Reed of Batesville.

Moseley, Alice Latimer
Bay St. Louis, MS (formerly of Enid) - Alice Latimer Moseley, nationally acclaimed folk artist, died Friday, July 9, 2004, at 6:30 p.m. in her much-loved home/studio at 214 Booker St. in Bay St. Louis.

Miss Alice is to be cremated at the Picayune Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the Bay St. Louis Depot on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Alice Latimer Moseley was born icon on December 21, 1909 and was 94 years old at the time of her death. Her life provides a superb example of how life can be lived with dignity, the doing of good deeds, a sense of humor and the tenacity to make one's dreams come true.

"Miss Alice's" earlier career was as an eighth-grade English teacher in the Memphis City Schools, and it was her teaching that she considered her most important work. She was in touch with many of her former students up until her death.

She began painting at the age of 60 and was a successful artist in Memphis.

Miss Alice is survived by her son, W.L. Tim Moseley of Pass Christian; a sister, Colleen Kirby and her family in California; a nephew, Mike Krawcheck and his family in her birthplace of Birmingham, Ala.; and her best friend and companion, Herman, the photogenic beagle. Her close friends, sponsors, and patrons were many, but she requested that special mention be made of Jerry Dixon, who she credited with getting her career established in Bay St. Louis; Beth Carriere, who promoted Miss Alice just about as aggressively as Miss Alice promoted herself; Sherry Ponder, a long-time friend; and Dale St. Amant, who was a rock upon whom she depended.

Nash, Mary
Mary Nash, 104, of Batesville, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Beverly Healthcare in Batesville of natural causes.

Services were Thursday at Eddie Robinson and Son Chapel. Burial was in Macedonia M.B. Church cemetery. Min. Ethel McKinney officiated. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Directors had charge.

Neal, Sarah Hubbard
Sarah Hubbard Neal, 77, of Brandon, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Hospice Ministries Inc.

Services were Saturday at Chapel Hill Methodist Church at Pope. Burial was in the church cemetery. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home had charge.

Neal was raised in Pope and was a resident of Canton for 45 years. She worked in the food service in Canton until her retirement. She was a member of Center Terrace Baptist Church in Canton.

Survivors include one daughter Joann Neal; three sons, Billy Neal, Robert Neal and Jack Neal; one brother Bobby Hubbard; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack V. Hubbard and Sula Mae Beard Hubbard, her husband Willie C. Neal, one brother Dewey Hubbard; a step-son James Neal; and one nephew Dewey Lee Hubbard.

Newton, Leigh Peterson
Enid, Miss. - Leigh Peterson Newton, 43, of Enid, died Friday, August 27, 2004, at her residence.

Newton, born icon Oct. 7, 1960, to the late Walter Lewis Peterson and the late Willeene "Charlie" Gray Peterson, was a member of the Methodist Church and a nurse for the State Department of Health.

Services were Monday at Bethel UMC near Enid. Burial was at Bethel Cemtery. Womble Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include her husband Robert Lee Newton of Enid; two sisters, Lyn Burns of Senatobia and Ellen Newton of Enid and two God-children.

Memorials may be sent to Rally for Cure, American Cancer Society, Tallahatchie Co., 3928 Hwy. 35 N, Charleston, Miss. 38921.

Nichols, Mary
Mary Nichols, 70, of Iuka, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Iuka Hospital.

Services were Tuesday at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Burial was in Moore's cemetery. Bro. Greg Woodruff officiated. Cutshall Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include her caregiver Lynn McBride Wes of Iuka; two sisters, Clara Oliphant of Sardis and Daisy Faye Smith of Coffeeville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hershel Nichols.

Nicholson, Lorenzo
Lorenzo Nicholson, 46, of Clarksdale, died Friday, September 3, 2004, at Northwest Regional Medical Center.

Services are tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Clarksdale Civic Center. Burial is at Heavenly Rest cemetery. Rev. Jonathan Williams will officiate. Visitation is today from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Eddie Robinson and Son and also tomorrow from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. at Clarksdale Civic Center. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Directors has charge.

Noel, Neily Mae Grigsby
Neily Mae Grigsby Noel, 74, of Memphis, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at Methodist University.

Services were Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Memphis Funeral Home. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery in Hanover, Pa. Memphis Funeral Home had charge.

Noel was retired from Sears and a member of Holmes Terrace Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 39 years Lester E. Noel; three daughters, Joan Roberts and Tammy Berggren, both of Southaven and Deborah Sanders of Teasdale; two sons, Danny Keen of Olive Branch and Eric Keen of Southaven; one sister Vivian "Bobby" Nelson of Munford, Tenn.; one brother Oscar David Grigsby of Batesville; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter Barbara Denton.

Odom, Jimmy Wayne
Duck Hill, MS - Jimmy Wayne Odom, 45, of Duck Hill, died Monday, March 29, 2004, of heart failure.

Graveside services were Thursday at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Odom, born icon Oct. 22, 1958, to the late James Edward and Earline West Sanders, was a truck driver for Carpenter's Trucking Company. He also served in the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife Debbie Fay Farmer Odom of Duck Hill; one daughter Katie Lynn Odom of Duck Hill; two sons, Jimmy Wayne Odom Jr. and Steve Odom, both of Duck Hill; one sister Kathrine Ann Sanders Bright of Sardis; and his mother Earline Wood of Sardis.

Oliver, Kathryn
Amory, Miss. - Kathryn Oliver, 89, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at the Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory after a short illness.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Haughton Memorial Park. Rev. Joe H. Oliver, Dr. Ronald Oliver and Rev. Greg Hood will officiate. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home has charge.

Oliver, born icon Aug. 19, 1914, to Fulton Andrew and Merle Chapman Herron, was a graduate of the University of Mississippi. She was an elementary school teacher at Greenwood Springs and Becker Schools. She was an active member of Cason Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, led Discipleship training and was church pianist for over 40 years. Her hobbies included crocheting and she enjoyed flower gardening.

Survivors include her son Rev. Joe H. Oliver of Algonquin, Ill.; two daughters, Mary Kay Hurst of Pensacola, Fla. and Ann Hood of Amory; one brother Warren A. Herron of Batesville; two sisters, Margaret Lee of Tylertown and Francis Seale of Batesville; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a great-grandson, Camden Hood. Memorials may be given to the Joseph and Kathryn Oliver Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 530, Jackson, MS 39205 or Cason Baptist Church, 30018 Cason Rd., Amory, MS 38821 or Memorial and Honor Program, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105-1905.
