Jeanette Taylor

Jeanette Taylor, 73, of Oakland, Miss., passed away March 19, 2015 at the Yalobusha County Nursing Home in Water Valley.

She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Mitchell (Wayne) of Hernando; son, William H. Taylor (Jennifer) of Oakland; sisters, Sue Pittman of Charleston, and Renee Brewer of Courtland; brother, Don Nelson of Courtland; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday, March 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial followed in Longtown cemetery.

Donald R. Woolfolk

Donald R. Woolfolk, 67, of Senatobia, passed away March 14, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto.

Mr. Woolfolk is survived by his wife, Carolyn Holden Woolfolk; two sons, Don Woolfolk II and Chris Woolfolk; his sister, Debbie Baker; brother, Bobby Woolfolk all from Senatobia; four grandchildren, Ashton Brimmage, Nick Woolfolk, Zach Woolfolk, and Aleia Woolfolk; and two great grandchildren, Parker Brimmage and Peyton Brimmage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Woolfolk; and his brother, Ronald Woolfolk.

The family requests any memorials be sent to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Services were held Tuesday March 17, at 10:00 a.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial followed in Bethesda cemetery.

Thomas Stephen Blann

Thomas Stephen “Steve” Blann, 77, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015. The family received friends at a catered reception from 4:30 until 7 p.m. Sunday, March 1 at Hernando Funeral Home. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday at Parkway Baptist Church in Hernando, where he was a member. Interment followed in Magnolia cemetery in Coldwater.

Mr. Blann was the owner of the Coldwater Big Star Grocery Store for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Jonelle Holden Blann; sons, John Thomas Blann (Judy) of Fulton, and Drew Blann (Christy) of Hernando; grandchildren, Heather Blann Little (John) of Jackson, Brice Blann of Hernando and Kolton Blann of Hernando; sisters, Indie Palmer of Sherman, Texas and Linda Blann Jeffreys of Southaven.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Blann; brother, James Blann; and parents, George and Mabel Blann.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

William Blount Irby, III

William Blount Irby, III, 87, passed away February 22, 2015 at Senatobia Convalescent Center in Senatobia.

Mr. Irby attended Memphis Academy of Arts, Northwest Mississippi Community College, and University of Mississippi. He loved history and was a Civil War buff and enjoyed hunting Indian relics. He also enjoyed going to museums, concerts and being with his family.

Mr. Irby is survived by three daughters, Rosemary Sinquefield of Senatobia; Suzan Friebert (Ricky) of Tucson, Ariz.; and Kathryn Devereaux of Tullahoma, Tenn.; two sons, William Irby (Nancy) of Tullahoma, Tenn. and David Irby of Memphis, Tenn.; 12grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Parish Irby and his parents, Hardy Lucille Dean and William Blount Irby, Jr.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 26, at 11 a.m. at the Ray-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation was from 5 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home.

Ray-Nowell Funeral Home – Senatobia Chapel had charge of arrangements.

Rose Marie Lane Gibson

Rose Marie Lane Gibson, 76, of Senatobia, passed away February 19, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto.

She is survived by her son, David Hutcheson of Olive Branch; daughter, Linda Lawrence of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge of the arrangements.

Nannie Mitchell

Nannie Mitchell, 108, of Senatobia, passed away February 15, 2015 at Baptist Health Care Facility in Horn Lake.

She is survived by her sisters, Willie Mae Moody of Memphis, Tenn., Climmie Patterson of Kalamazoo, Mich.; nieces, Rosie Johnson of Senatobia, Mary Patterson and Willie Mae Joyce both of Kalamazoo, Mich.; nephews, Allner Patterson of Kalamazoo, Mich., Alfred McClinton and Mack Jackson both of Senatobia.

Services were held Saturday, February 21, at 1:00 p.m. at New Salem M.B. Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge of the arrangements.

Ruby Rowe Roberson

Ruby Rowe Roberson, 86, of Arkabutla, passed away on February 25, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto. Services were held 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 27, at Pate-Jones Funeral Home. Burial followed at Evansville cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Roberson of Arkabutla; sons, Kirk Franks of Independence, Paul Franks of Coldwater; stepchildren, Katie Thomas, Aubrey Franks, Homer Franks, Estell Hobson and Mary Wade; half- sister, Jettie Meadows, Independence; grandchildren, Martha Turner, Stacy Franks, Leslie Franks; great grandchildren, Madelyn Turner, Jacob Houston, William Dorman, Levi Franks.

She was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ.

Any memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Bessie Mae Tuggles

Bessie Mae Tuggles, 86, of Wyatte, Miss., passed away February 22, 2015 at Harbor View Nursing Home in Memphis, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Tuggles; nephew, Willie Earl Jones; sister, Pearlie Cathey; and brothers; Howard Franklin Jones and Willie Hayes Jones.

She is survived by her daughter, Bessie Lee Kizer of Memphis, Tenn.; nieces, Shirley McGhee, Lucille Brown and Ivory Jones; nephew, Alque Jones; sister, Freddie Mosley of Coldwater; brother, Alque Jones of Independence; two grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

She was a member of Strickland Chapel CME Church in Byhalia.

Services were held Saturday, February 28, at 12:00 p.m. at Wyatte Community Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Lee House Burford

Lee House Burford, 87, passed away Feb. 7, 2015 at the North Oak Regional Medical Center in Senatobia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Annie House Burford; his sisters, Vernice and Annette Burford and his brother, Vernon Burford.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

Lee was a veteran of WWII having served in the Army.

He was a long time Tate County Cattleman.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, February 10, at 2:00 p.m. at Thyatira cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge of the arrangements.

Sidney Homer Carter

On February 10, 2015, Sidney Homer Carter, at 103 years of age, moved on to his heavenly home. He was born icon in Sioux City, Iowa to Homer and Nellie Carter on July 3, 1911. He lived in Milwaukee, Wis. most of his life, but has lived in Independence for the last three years. He was employed by General Electric in Chicago and Milwaukee for 42 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Virginia White, who died May 8, 2007, his son, Wayne, who died in 1971, a brother, Jack, who died in 1927, a brother, Chester of Minneapolis, Minn., who died in 1988, a brother, Bruce of Mesa, Ariz., who died in November 2014, and a sister, Gwendolyn, of Glendale Heights, Ill, who passed away in December 2014.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane Wilhite of Independence, four granddaughters, Donna Sherman of Muskego, Wis., Laura Sherman of Independence, Nancy Norcisa (Steve) of Milwaukee, Wis. and Susan Ricks (Daryl) of Independence, nine great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Carter and his wife enjoyed square dancing for many years, and working with the young people in the Bay View United Methodist Church. Mr. Carter enjoyed classical music, stamp collecting, wood carving, reading the bible, visiting art galleries, and playing tennis. He was active in Indian Guides and Jr. Achievement with his son Wayne. He was “raised” as a Master Mason and attended Lake Lodge in Milwaukee, and was an Associate Guardian in Job’s Daughters with his daughter Diane, a Job’s Daughter. After his retirement from General Electric the Carters escaped the cold Wisconsin winters and lived in their travel trailer in Fort Myers, Florida. He also enjoyed being with his Mississippi family members the last three years.

A memorial service was held at Independence United Methodist Church in Independence on February 13 at 11 a.m. Another memorial service and interment will be held in Milwaukee, Wis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Independence United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 152 Independence, MS 38638 for the Multi-Purpose Building Fund.

Coleman Funeral Home in Olive Branch had charge of the arrangements.

Walter Lee Echols

Walter Lee Echols, 70, retired supervisor for MPI, of Coldwater, passed away on February 10, 2015. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 14 at 11 a.m. at West Antioch M.B. Church #2 in Coldwater.

He is survived by a daughter, Brandie Echols of Hernando; two sons, Darryl Bryan Echols and Terrance Echols both of Kansas City, Mo.; six sisters, Lorrine Webster, Ludean Simmons, Mattie Carlton, Renitha Sipp, all of Coldwater, Joyce Echols and Gloria Rowell, both of Olive Branch; and five grandchildren.

Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater had charge of the arrangements.

Mary Green Fitts

Mary Green Fitts, 88, of Holly Springs, cafeteria worker, passed away on February 8, 2015. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Peel M.B. Church in Holly Springs.

She is survived by her husband, Clayton Fitts; daughters, Tryphinia Newson of Coldwater, and Linda Harris of Holly Springs; sons, Ivory Harris, James Earl Harris, Melvin Harris, Oscar Lee Harris, all of Holly Springs, Willie Harris of Phoenix, Ark., and Willie James Harris of Coldwater; sisters, Janie Godard of Flat, Mich., Wonrdna Lynn Harris of Holly Springs, and Alma Lois Butts of Chicago, Ill.; brothers, Henry Lee Martin of Coldwater, George Martin of Chicago, Ill., and Lester Martin of South Bend, Ind.; 34 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; and 40 great-great grandchildren.
