CLARKSDALE, MS - John F. Laurenzi, 85, former owner of Paper Specialty, died of cancer Thursday at Wellington Place Assisted Living Center. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church with burial in Memorial Gardens cemetery. Nowell Funeral Home has charge. He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 28, a Knights of Columbus Grand Knight, and a member of the Forty and Eight Club. Mr. Laurenzi, the husband of Betty Laurenzi, also leaves three daughters, Joy DeLap of Greenville, Teresa Davenport of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Elaine Matinchek of Kissimmee, Fla.; two sons, John Laurenzi Jr. of Cordova, Tenn., and Terry Laurenzi of Yorktown, Va., 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

COILA, MS - Benny Reed McCaleb III, infant son of Ladona Hill Farrish and Benny Reed McCaleb Jr., died of heart failure Wednesday at Methodist Healthcare of Jackson. Graveside services were Thursday in Rose Hill cemetery in Sardis. He also leaves a sister, Dianna Rose McCaleb of Coila, and his grandparents, Dianne and Ben McCaleb of Greenwood and Rose and Marvin Farrish of Blackhawk.

CORINTH, MS - Richard B. McVay, 80, retired associate for King Tractor Co. and former employee of Berkheiser Lumber Co., died of heart failure Thursday at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at McPeters Funeral Home with burial in Corinth National cemetery. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and East Corinth Baptist Church. Mr. McVay, the husband of Maxine Tedford McVay, also leaves three daughters, Andrea Morris of Dyersburg, Tenn., Cathy Lassiter Jacobsen of Corinth and Vickie Lassiter Shwab of Huntsville, Ala; two sons, Richard McVay of Memphis and Phil Lassiter of Birmingham, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

GLEN, MS - Walter `Goddard' Callahan, 93, retired employee of Weaver Pants Co., died of heart failure Wednesday at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at McPeters Funeral Home with burial in Henry cemetery. He was a member of Strickland Church of Christ. Mr. Callahan, the husband of Ora J. Callahan, also leaves two stepsons, Billy Jones of Corinth and J.C. Jones of Indiana; two sisters, Nannie B. Donaldson of Middleton and Clara Mae Clifton of Bolivar; a brother, George Adam Callahan of Saulsbury, Tenn., seven stepgrandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

GRENADA, MS - Henderson Strain Hall, 83, retired commercial manager for BellSouth, died of heart failure Tuesday at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Garner-Harper Funeral Home with burial in Woodlawn cemetery. He was a World War II pilot, a Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist Church and past president of the Kiwanis Club. He leaves a daughter, Melissa Hall Goodman of Anguilla; three sisters, Jane DeMent of Defiance, Ohio, Mary Stinson of Ridgeland and Chick Mitchell of Plantersville; a brother, William Hall of Jacksonville, Fla., and seven grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to First United Methodist Church, Anguilla United Methodist Church or to Humphreys County Memorial Hospital Lifeline Program.

GRENADA, MS - Edith Holmes Swetland, 89, homemaker, died of cancer Thursday in Ridgeland. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Garner-Harper Funeral Home with burial in Woodlawn cemetery. She was a member of the Margaret Carlisle Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, the Joy Club, past worthy matron of Order of the Eastern Star 2553, a former board member of Girl Scouts of America and the TLT Club. Mrs. Swetland, the widow of William Edward Swetland, leaves two daughters, Judy Swetland Arnold of Jackson and Jean Swetland Nevil of Carrollton, Texas; a son, Jerry H. Swetland of Biloxi, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to First Baptist Church, Hospice Ministries or to the American Cancer Society.

HOLLY SPRINGS, MS - John William Jones, 74, retired farmer, died of heart failure Tuesday at Alliance Health Care System. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Strickland United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Trustee Board, with burial in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum & Son Funeral Home has charge. He leaves two daughters, Lorene Newsom of Holly Springs and Roemell Wooten of Chicago; a son, Lee Junior Bowen of Chicago; three sisters, Anner Ferrell and Darlene Dotson, both of Holly Springs, and Emma McCrary of Memphis, five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

HOLLY SPRINGS, MS - Arbrie Jacob Powers, 79, retired farmer, died of injuries received in an auto accident Feb. 26 in Holly Springs. Services will be at noon Saturday at Chulahoma Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and cemetery chairman, with burial in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum & Son Funeral Home has charge. Mr. Powers, the widower of Jully Mary Cox Powers, leaves two daughters, Lee Vatarie Moody of Memphis and Eleanor Marion of Holly Springs; three sons, Marvin Powers and Roy Powers, both of Holly Springs, and Calvin Powers of Memphis; a sister, Georgia Cox of Holly Springs, 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

MYRTLE, MS - Ricky Benson, 22, of Myrtle, formerly of Kosciusko, employee of Wal-Mart Distribution Center, died of injuries received in an auto accident Wednesday in Memphis. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Jordan Funeral Home of Kosciusko with burial in Parkway cemetery there. He was a member of the Mississippi Army National Guard and First United Methodist Church in Kosciusko. He leaves his parents, Richard Scott and Karen Colbert Benson; a sister, Katharyn Benson, and a brother, Brandon Benson, both of Kosciusko, and his grandparents, Virginia Guthrie of Myrtle, Paul Colbert of Sardis, and Dick and Kay Benson of Germantown, Tenn. The family requests that any memorials be sent to First United Methodist Church Youth Scholarship Fund or to Attala County 4-H Youth Organization.

OXFORD, MS - William Wiley Preston, 84, retired counselor for the American Red Cross, died of pneumonia Thursday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with burial in Oxford Memorial cemetery. Waller Funeral Home has charge. He was a World War II veteran. Mr. Preston, the husband of Sarah Tolson Preston, also leaves three sisters, Mariam P. St. Clair of Tarkio, Mo., Shannon P. Cumming of Decatur, Ga., and Florence P. Bockhurst of Kirkwood, Mo., and a brother, John F. Preston II of Pebble Beach, Calif. The family requests that any memorials be sent to First Presbyterian Church, Davidson (N.C.) College, Camp Hopewell or to a charity of the donor's choice.
