Marie Falkner Jones, 86, of Chicago, Ill, formerly of Holly Springs, died June 14, 2006 at Renaissance Nursing Home in Chicago. She was a retired housekeeper with Mercy Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Services were held at 12 noon on June 24 at Smith Grove MB Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. W.C. Conner officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two brothers, Eddie Falkner, Perry Falkner, both of Holly Springs.

Pallbearers were Lee Esther Falkner, Eddie Lee Wooten, John Lee Falkner, Joe Dowdy, Roosevelt Falkner, Freddie G. Falkner Jr., Sam Jones and James Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Falkner, Perry Falkner, Freddie G. Falkner, James L. Falkner, Lacy Falkner, Phillip Milan, J.B. Falkner and Willie Lee Falkner.

Constance Venice Anderson Maxwell

Constance Venice Anderson Maxwell, 32, of Memphis, Tenn., died June 19, 2006 at Baptist East Hospital.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on June 24 at Sand Hill MB Church in Lamar. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Etoy Board, pastor, officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Marquett Maxwell; two children, David Bernard Luellen Jr., Darius Demon Luellen of Memphis, Tenn.; her mother, Annie Jo Anderson of Michigan City; her father, Ricky Debrail of Nashville, Tenn.; four brothers, Darell Anderson, Christopher Anderson, Darnell Anderson and Antonio Anderson, all of Michigan City; and three sisters, Angela Anderson, Marquita Anderson, both of Memphis, Tenn., Demetris Anderson of Michigan City.

Chester Lee Miller

Chester Lee Miller, 70, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Marshall County, died June 16, 2006. He was a former member of New Hope MB Church in Holly Springs. Employed for a many years with International Harvester, he later worked for an asphalt company. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church and a member of Indiana Lodge #104, where he received the Elk of the Year Award.

Services were held at 1 p.m. at Promise Land Christian Community Church in Indianapolis. Rev. Richard E. Willoughly Sr. officiated. Stuart Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a daughter, Audrey Rene Johnson; a brother, Levan Miller; three sisters, Vera Brown, Ann Walls, Geraldine Trotter; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and many other family and friends.

Pallbearers were Jeffrey Miller, Bryant Jackson, Bobby Trotter, Victor Dukett, Christopher Grant. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Malone, Levan Miller, Ernest Pryor, Ronald Peck, and Adolph Warren.

Jeanette Dowdy Watson

Jeanette Dowdy Watson, 62, of East St. Louis, Ill., died June 21, 2006 in Centreville, Ill. She was a retired nurses’ aide and a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in East St. Louis.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on July 1 at Hudsonville CME Church in Holly Springs. Burial will be in the church cemetery. N.H. Owens and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, James Watson; four daughters, Debra Jones, Angela Finnie, both of Lamar, Veronica Benton of Collierville, Tenn., Pamela Marion of Olive Branch; two sons, Norman Finnie of Lamar, Kalvin Finnie of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, Matt Dowdy Jr. of Memphis, John L. Dowdy of Lamar; and 14 grandchildren.

George Batts

George (Tuck) Batts, 52, of Ashland died July 14, 2006 at North MS Medical Center Tupelo. He joined Mercy Temple and later moved his membership to New Beginning. He was employed with Pipers Impact for 21 years.

Services were held at 12 noon on July 17 at St. James C.O.G.I.C. in Ripley. Elder Bernell Hoyle, host pastor, and pastor Gabriel Wilson officiated. Burial was in Sandhill Church cemetery in Lamar. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife of 24 years, Gloria Pearl Batts; his mother, Lola Elizabeth Tucker of Lamar; four brothers, Larry C. Tucker, Trent Tucker of Ashland, Akeo Gilmore of Rossville, Tenn., John Luellen of Grand Rapids, Mich.; four sisters, Myra Ann Tucker of Ripley. Sfc Isa Dale Semper of Darien, Ill., Brenda Lindsey of Michigan City, Mary Thomas of Aurora, Ill.; and many other family and friends.

Pallbearers were Eddie Williams, Walter Williams, Clarence Allen, Willie Bean, Akeo Gilmore, Gabriel Wilson Jr., Reggie Wilson, James Griffin, Andrew Page and Solon Hoyle.

Lena Mae Bostick

Lena Mae Bostick, 66, died July 9, 2006 at Tippah County Hospital. She was the widow of Rufus Bostick.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 15 at Ashland High School. Burial was in Macedonia CME Church cemetery in Lamar. Rev. Robert Odum, pastor, officiated. Jones/Payton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves three daughters, Gwendolyn Harris, Ruthie Hoyle, Hattie Mae Bostick, all of Ashland; two sons, Bobby Bostick, Michael Bostick, both of Ashland; two sisters, Ella Thomas, Ada Hudson; four brothers, Rice Smith, Larry Smith, Will Smith, Isaac Smith Jr.; 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Zachery Smith and Robert Smith.

Pallbearers were Henry Reaves, John Kimmons Jr., Earnest Price, John Bullock, James Bullock, Nathaniel Hampton, James Hoyle. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Bostick, Bobby Bostick, Joe Harris and Solon Hoyle.

Sarah Ferguson Crain

Sarah Ferguson Crain, 80, of Byhalia, died July 16, 2006 in Memphis, Tenn. The widow of Kenneth A. Crain, she was born icon and reared in Enterprise (Union County) and was the daughter of Victor and Vida Ferguson. She was a member of the Byhalia United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and was a past treasurer, member of the Fellow Workers Sunday School class and past president of the United Methodist Women. She was an active member of Marshall County Habitat for Humanity and the Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce. A homemaker, she was the Town of Byhalia Deputy Clerk for 15 years. Mrs. Crain was honored on her 80th birthday, Aug. 15, 2005, by the Town of Byhalia, for her dedication and for serving as a role model for the citizens.

Services were held on July 19 at Byhalia United Methodist Church with burial in the Byhalia cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves five children, Charles Kenneth Crain and his wife Joy of Byhalia, Donald Allen Crain and his wife Carey of Holly Springs, Sarah Fay Sawyer and her husband Terry of Byhalia, William Victor Crain of Denver, Co., and Alice Nell Schmidt and her husband Frank of Long Beach.

Grandchildren are Ken Crain, his wife Allison and daughter Sabrina of Oxford, Kelly Crain, Seth Crain, Elizabeth Crain, all of Byhalia, Sarah Crain of Jackson, Allen Crain of Atlanta, Ga., Scott Sawyer, Anderson Sawyer, both of Byhalia and a cousin, Bill Lanier of Memphis, Tenn.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to the Byhalia United Methodist Church Family Enrichment Center Fund, P. O. Box 6 Byhalia, MS 38611; Marshall County Habitat for Humanity or Palmer Home for Children in Columbus.

William Ivy Gray

William Ivy Gray, 79, died July 10, 2006 at Baptist Hospital East, Memphis, Tenn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a retired diesel mechanic with Gordon’s Transport. He had lived in the Marshall County and the Savannah, Tenn. areas until he moved to Somerville, Tenn., where he resided at the time of his death. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Somerville and a Baptist.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 12 at the Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Burial was in the Cornersville cemetery. Bro. Jon Vazquez officiated. Coleman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Lois Lucille Gray; a son, Robert Gray of Potts Camp; two daughters, Joyce Cox of Ashland, Patty Gray of Olive Branch; a sister, Wilma Ray of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a brother, Arnold Gray of Greensboro, NC; a stepdaughter, Pat Loy of Covington, Tenn.; two stepsons, Jimmy Russell of Burlison, Tenn., Jerry Russell of Somerville; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cornersville cemetery Fund, 5916 Hwy 349 South, Potts Camp 38659.

Levi Hale

Levi Hale, 60, of Red Banks, died July 6, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs. He was disabled.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 13 at Mt. Newell MB Church in Red Banks, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Arthur Fitzpatrick officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two sisters, Clara Etta Hale of Red Banks, Evelyn Hale Robinson of Memphis, Tenn.; and a brother, Mose Hale of Red Banks.

Pallbearers were relatives and friends.

Victor Leon Hooker

Victor Leon Hooker, 49, of Byhalia, died July 10, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of Mt. Zion Taska MB Church, church deacon, former usher, attended Sunday school, church custodian, church bus driver, member of Masonic Lodge and Cayce Fire Department. He was a production operator with Kelloggs of Rossville, Tenn.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 15 at Mt. Zion Taska MB Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Edrick Garrison officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Della Garrison Hooker; three daughters, Shoanee Garrison of Cayce, Karmon Hooker, Christie Durham, both of Somerville.; three sons, Rev. Edrick Garrison, Victoren Hooker, both of Cayce, Joey Hurt of Rossville; a godson, Curtis Pritchard of Memphis, Tenn.; two children reared as his own, Paris Garrison, Corderro Boyce, both of Memphis, Tenn.; a parent, Cleta Hobson of Oakland, Tenn.; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Calvin Bogan, Al Boyd, Melvin Garrison, John Harris, Alvin Hooker, Mal. J. Hooker, Melvin Hooker, Travis Shelton. Honorary pallbearers were Mt. Zion Taska deacon board.

Adell Jackson Jr.

Adell Jackson Jr., 53, of Castro Valley, Calif., formerly of Holly Springs, died July 10, 2006 at Allliance HealthCare System. He was a member of Providence MB Church in Holly Springs. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a truck driver with Gardner Trucking Company in California.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on July 16 at Kimbrough Chapel MB Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. J.W. Smith Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two sons, Tyrone Jackson of Memphis, Tenn., Michael Jackson of Milwaukee, Wisc.; five sisters, Pearline Batts, Sinoba Jackson, Hazel McFadden, Zenna Jackson, Ella Marie Jackson, all of Holly Springs; five brothers, Cecil Adkins, Eric Jackson, Johnny L. Jackson, all of Holly Springs, Timothy Jackson of Greenwood, Wilbert Jackson of Corinth.

He was preceded in death by a son, Terence Jackson.

Pallbearers were Eddie Lucas, Otis Russell, Luquinton Lucas, Lonnie Luellen, Clifford Gipson, Robert Jeffries and Melvin Luellen. Honorary pallbearers were Luquinton Jackson, Carl Harden, George Harden, Santez Jackson, Corey Jackson and Derrick Jackson.

Willis C. Mitchell

Willis C. Mitchell, 91, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Aurora, Ill., died July 8, 2006 at his home. He was a former church steward. He was retired from Richard Wilcox Door Company in Aurora, Ill.

Services were held at 12 noon on July 15 at Mt. Comfort CME Church in Waterford, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. A.V. Warren Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Jettie Richmond Mitchell; eight daughters, Lula F. Jeffries, Vera Jeffries, Susie Conard, Brenda Mitchell, all of Memphis, Tenn., Steptoria Finner of Holly Springs, Jewel Thompson of Daville, Ill., Frances Dean, Mary Bernard, both of Aurora, Ill.; six sons, James Mitchell, Johnny Mitchell, Morris Mitchell, Eddie Mitchell, Willis Mitchell Jr., Henry Mitchell, all of Aurora, Ill.; 63 grandchildren, 98 great-grandchildren and 49 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bob Clark, Byron Jeffries, Raymond Jeffries, Rodney Johnson, Scott Mitchell, Malcom Pryor, Tony Prior and Gabriel Rounds. Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Mitchell, Henry Mitchell, James Mitchell, Johnny Mitchell, Morris Mitchell and Willis Mitchell Jr.

Haywood Marcell Yager

Haywood Marcell Yager, 68, of Holly Springs, died July 12, 2006 at Collierville Baptist Hospital. He was a Baptist and a carpenter.

A memorial service will be held later. Holly Springs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

He leaves four sons, David Yager of Memphis, Tenn., Duane Yager of Marion, Ark., Keith Yager of Red Banks, Terry Yager of Horn Lake; two daughters, Gina Trantham of Byhalia, Missy Williams of Byhalia; two brothers, Gene Yeager of Union City, Tenn., Wayne Yeager of Hickory Flat; a sister, Faye Annell of Holly Springs; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Rev. B.F. Andrews

Rev. B.F. (Andy) Andrews, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, died Aug. 12, 2006 at his home. He was a retired minister.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 15 at Germantown Baptist Church, where he was a member since 1990. Burial was in West Tennessee Veterans cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife of 40 years, Grace Andrews; daughters, Delores Christian of Brooks, Ga, Christy Wardlow of McDonough, Ga; Towana Jones of Mt. Pleasant, Sheila Smith of Dalton, Ga; a son, Benjamin F. Andrews Jr. of Katy, Tx.; a sister, Edith Swaney of Gibsonville, NC; a brother, Dean Andrews of Whitsett, NC; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
