NATCHEZ - Memorial services for Dallas E. "Bubba" Cooke III, 49, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Paul Barker officiating.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Cooke was born icon Aug. 4, 1953, in Natchez, the son of Dallas Eugene Cooke Jr. and Gloria June Payton Cooke.

He was employed by Natchez Community Hospital for 28 years.

Survivors include one son, Dallas E. "Deren" Cooke IV of Albuquerque, N.M.; one grandson, Jaden Kyler Cooke of Fort Wayne, Ind.; his father, Dallas E. Cooke Jr. of Natchez; his mother, June Chalmers of Natchez; one sister, Kathy C. Long of Hattiesburg; an aunt, Eleanor Mae Cooke of Natchez; six nieces, Britton Long, Jordan King, Reagyn Long, Whitney Long, Ashton Long and Mallory Long.

The family requests memorials be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Cancer Society or a charity of choice.

Gloria Marie Simmons Vasser

Feb. 22, 1926 - Jan. 27, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Gloria Marie Simmons Vasser, 76, of Natchez, who died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. Mike O'Brien officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Mrs. Vasser was born icon Feb. 22, 1926, in Ferriday, the daughter of Ernest and Mary Burke Simmons.

Survivors include one son, John Vasser of Boston, Mass.; one daughter, Eugenia Vasser Cates and her husband, Michael, both of Natchez; and one granddaughter, Devereaux Cates of Natchez.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Simmons, Johnny Watts, Bo Sullivan, Richard Hess, John Smith and Tommy Biglane.

Edward F. Wright

Edward F. (Buck) Wright, 68, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 8, 2006 at his home. He was retired from trailer maintenance.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Bethel Baptist Church in Holcomb. Burial was in the church cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home in Charleston was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Katie Young Wright; a daughter, Frances Marie Dunwood of Memphis, Tenn.; a son, Michael E. Wright of Holly Springs; two sisters, Hazel Davis of Memphis, Tenn., Josey Clark of Horn Lake; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Johnny B. Akins

Johnny B. Akins, 62, of Olive Branch, died Nov. 26, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He retired from the TVA Allen Steam Plant as a machinist after 28 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ, a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran, a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a member of the NRA.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 29 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial was in Autumn Woods cemetery.

He leaves his wife of 34 years, Jane S. Akins; his son, Chris Akins; two brothers, Robert Akins of Chattanooga, Tenn., Richard Akins of Piggott, Ark.; and three sisters, Peggy Moore, Sandra Akins, Becky Bryant, all of Holly Springs.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dixie Sanderson of Victoria.

Charles Callis Byrd Jr.

Charles Callis (Bubba) Byrd Jr., 53, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 2, 2006 at his home. He was a Baptist and a maintenance tech with Williams Sonoma Inc.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Red Banks cemetery.

He leaves his wife, Linda Denise Mitchell Byrd; four daughters, Starlit Tomlinson, Jamie Byrd, both of Holly Springs; Hollie Alsip of Fort Campbell, Ky., Janice Byrd of Red Banks; his mother, Bernice Byrd of Holly Springs; three brothers, Roy Byrd of Batesville, Charles W. Byrd of Ashland, Mike Byrd of Holly Springs; four sisters, Elizabeth Cullen of Red Banks, Nancy Bailey of Water Valley, Mary Hill of Ecru, Martha Herridge of Kansas City, Kan.; and a grandson.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Holstine, Ronnie Thorton, Jessie Carter, Tom Pannell, Wes Ballard and Perry Pipkin.

Oma Christine Cook

Oma Christine Cook, 69, of Potts Camp, died Nov. 29, 2006 at her home in Alabama. She was the widow of Aubrey Gene Cook. She was a Baptist and a sales associate at Wal-Mart.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 2 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethlehem Methodist cemetery in Potts Camp. Bro. Joe Epting officiated.

She leaves three sons, Donald Gene Cook of Decatur, Ala., Danny Ray Cook, Darrell Glenn Cook, both of Trinity, Ala.; a daughter, Kristy Lynette Cook Hamby of Trinity, Ala.; two brothers, Odis L. (Buddy) Walls of Grand Junction, Colo., Talmadge O’Neal (Neal) Walls of Aurora, Ill.; two sisters, Oudia Sue Alderman of Yorkville, Ill., Mary Jo Anderson of Holly Springs; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Otis Wayne Walls.

Aaron Thomas Glover

Aaron Thomas (A.T.) Glover, 89, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 24, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs. He was the widower of Edna Jeffries Glover. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and a retired warehouse packer with Rawley’s Packing Co. in Memphis, Tenn.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 2 at Providence MB Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Rev. Alonzo Johnson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves six daughters, Lucille Jenkins, Sarah Glover, Carlean Paige, Elnora Jeffries, Belinda Ayers, all of Holly Springs, Murlee Rounds of Aurora, Ill.; three sons, John Lester Glover, William Jeffries, both of Holly Springs, Willie Frank Glover of Aurora, Ill.; two sisters, V.L. Turnage of Aurora, Ill., Mollie Robinson of Memphis, Tenn.; three brothers, Sherman Glover, Freddie Lee Glover, both of Holly Springs, Spencer Glover of Aurora, Ill.; 56 grandchildren and 70 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by children Mack Glover, Aaron Glover and Anna Alice Glover.

Pallbearers were Samuel Glover, Benard Rounds, Terry Paige, Dennis Jenkins, Kenneth Glover, Lenard Rounds, Henry Paige and Greg Hodges. Honorary pallbearers were James Williams, Cadarian Jenkins, Kendrick King, Michael Glover and Aaron Jenkins.

John Wilbur Holmes

John Wilbur Holmes, 79, of Byhalia, died Nov. 28, 2006 at his home. He was a painter and carpenter and a member of Coldwater Baptist.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 30 at Coldwater cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves several nieces and nephews, Vance and Diana Holmes, Mary and Guy Lynn, Betty and Larence Mills, Ricky and Jodi Holmes and Mary Pannell.

Pallbearers were Ricky Holmes, Buster Holmes and Larence Mills.

Emieal Hampton

Emieal (Skirt) Hampton, 84, of Michigan City, died Nov. 29, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs. He was a logger most of his life. He was the widower of Lucy Mae Hampton.

Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 2 at Sand Hill MB Church in Lamar. Burial was in Sand Hill cemetery in Lamar. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his children, Eugene Hampton of Hudsonville, George Hampton, Charles Greer, Willie Hampton and Lee Frances Turner, all of Ashland, Earnestine Evans, Dalie Peterson and Charles Hampton, all of Lamar, John Hampton and Raymond Hampton of Holly Springs, Dorothy Clardy, Mozell Hampton, Lora Brown and Lucy Tipler of Michigan City; many grandchildren and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Adleana Harris and a grandchild, Carol Reeves.

Taylor Duncan Luttrell

Taylor Duncan Luttrell, 86, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 1, 2006 at his home. He was the widower of Amy Williams Luttrell. He was a Baptist and a freight handler.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 4 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Salem Rutledge cemetery in Iuka. Bro. Frank Feathers officiated.

He leaves four sons, Charles Luttrell of Molalla, Ore., James Luttrell of Jackson, Tenn., Donald Luttrell, Robert Luttrell, both of Holly Springs; a daughter, Annette Bell of Holly Springs; a brother, George Rutledge of Iuka; 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Turner Luttrell, and two infant daughters.

Pallbearers were his grandsons.
