Services were held at 12 noon on July 16 at Mt. Newell MB Church in Red Banks, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Arthur Fitzpatrick officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Dorothy Jean Moore; three daughters, Shanika Stigger, Cassandra Moore-Ellis, both of Byhalia, Chapellia Moore of Collierville, Tenn.; two sons, Marrion Moore, Lonnie Moore Jr., both of Red Banks; his mother, Lydia Blair Moore of Red Banks; three sisters, Annie Kizer, Doris Johnson, both of Red Banks, Odessa Todd of Byhalia; three brothers, Willie Moore, Richard Moore, both of Red Banks, Jeffery Moore of Memphis, Tenn.; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were LaMarcus Moore, Christopher Moore, Jeffrey Moore, Currye Todd, Courtney Todd, Tristan Kizer.

Parissa Santrice Anthony

Parissa Santrice Anthony, infant, of Memphis, died July 15, 2006 at The Regional Medical Center, Memphis, Tenn.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on July 26 at Hearn Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Byhalia. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her mother and father, Paris Anthony, Eddie Williams, both of Memphis, Tenn.; four brothers, Elijah Anthony, Antonio Bennett, Eddie Williams and Kentel Bennett, all of Memphis; a sister, Ashley Williams of Memphis; grandparents, Gloria Anthony of Memphis, Tenn., Oliver Anthony of Byhalia, Bernice and Eddie Williams, both of Memphis, Tenn.

Mary Josephine Willis Brown

Mary Josephine Willis Brown, 61, of Eastman, Ga., formerly of Holly Springs, died July 17 at her home. She was a teacher and charge nurse at the Dodge County Hospital.

Mass services were held at 10 a.m. on July 24 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial was in Gray’s Chapel CME Church cemetery. Father Leonard Elder officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Sydney Brown of Cordele, Ga.; a daughter, Michele Brown of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Sydney Brown Jr., Stephen Brown, both of Atlanta; four sisters, Doris Parker of Memphis, Tenn., Elvie Willis of Jackson, Beverly Lucas of Huntsville, Ala., Dolores Simpson of Eastman, Ga.; four brothers, John Allen Willis of Newton, Edward Walls of Monterey, Calif., Timothy Matthews of Virginia Beach, Va., John Douglas Matthews of Philadelphia, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Joe Q. Davis, James Parker, James Walls, William Smith and Joseph A. Mosey. Honorary pallbearers were nephews and cousins.

Claudie L. Cook

Claudie L. Cook, 79, of Hickory Flat, died July 27, 2006 at his home. He was the widower of Evie Marie McLeroy, a Baptist and a meat cutter with Walls Meat Packing Plant.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 29 at Ebenezer Methodist Church in Hickory Flat. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Dennis Fink officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two sons, Ralph Hill of Hickory Flat, Mike Hill of Ecru; seven daughters, Norma Cianciolo of Southaven, Linda Cannon of Holly Springs, Brenda Kidd of Kowenville, Wanda Puder of Hickory Flat, Margie Taylor, Kathy Hester, Judy Cox, all of New Albany; 33 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

Vernon David Crook Sr.

Vernon David Crook Sr., 53, of Byhalia, died July 30, 2006 at Trinity Missions Nursing Home. He was the retired assistant manager of Big Star.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Aug. 1 at Emory Independent Methodist Church in Byhalia. Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home of Hernando was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Carlyon Hensley Crook; a daughter, Susan Crook of San Antonio, Tx.; a son, David Crook Jr. of Byhalia; a sister, Freddie Douglas of Lexington, Tenn; and a brother, Charles Crook of Coldwater.

James Ronald Curtis

James Ronald (Butch) Curtis, 66, of Lamar, died July 28, 2006 at Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. He was a Baptist.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 31 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Rice Chapel cemetery in Lamar. Bro. William Kemp officiated.

He leaves his wife, Mary Ann Yeager Curtis; his mother, Corinne Hurdle Curtis of Lamar; two daughters, Denise Corey of Collierville, Tenn., Trina Holbrook of Rockholds, Ky.; four stepdaughters, Phoebe Ann Bates of Jackson, Misty Breedlove of Hernando, Tammy Chambers, Bell Wilburn, both of Moscow, Tenn.; a stepson, Joey Breedlove of Parsons, Tenn.; a sister, Regina Curtis Morrow of Collierville, Tenn.; a brother, Woodrow C. Curtis of Portland, Ark.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Curtis Johnson; and his father, Woodrow F. Curtis.

Jessie Mae Hemphill

Jessie Mae Hemphill, 82, of Senatobia, died July 30, 2006 at Regional Medical Center (MED) in Memphis, Tenn. She was a musical entertainer. She last performed for Memphis In May 2006.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 23 at Gilmore Street Church of Christ in Senatobia. Burial was in Senatobia Memorial cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Debra Carol Holbrook

Debra Carol Holbrook, 50, of Holly Springs, died July 29, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was a Baptist and a secretary with Holly Springs Intermediate School.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 1 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery. Rev. G.R. Travis officiated.

She leaves her parents, Emmett and Eunice Holbrook of Holly Springs; and four brothers, Kenneth Leon Holbrook, Clifford Daniel Holbrook, Henry Earl Holbrook and Jeffrey Darrell Holbrook, all of Holly Springs.

Christeen Lee Jeffries

Christeen Lee Jeffries, 82, of Holly Springs, died July 23, 2006 at her home.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 29 at Bell Grove MB Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe Powell officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Mary Williams of Holly Springs, Mattie Hibbler of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were friends and family.

Lydia Moore

Lydia Moore, 82, of Red Banks, died July 25, 2006 at Quitman County Hospital in Marks. She served as church secretary and was a member of the usher board and mother board.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 29 at Mt. Newell MB Church in Red Banks. Burial was in the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves five children, Richard Moore, Doris Moore, Jeffrey Moore, Annie Kizer, all of Red Banks, Odessa Todd of Cayce; 27 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.Justin Landon Porter

He leaves his mother and father, Savannah Bias, Chester Porter Jr.; grandparents Sarah White and Tammy Bias; and a brother, Jordan Calvin Porter, all of Hickory Flat.

Joe Wheeler Shaw

Joe Wheeler Shaw, 63, of Hickory Flat, died July 22, 2006 at his home. He was a member of Pleasant Hill MB Church in Hickory Flat.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 29 at Doxey Auditorium at Rust College. Burial was in McKay cemetery in Hickory Flat. Rev. Joseph Newsom officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves three daughters, Bridgett Rucker of Memphis, Tenn., Sharon Hale of Flint, Mich., Wanda Love of Hickory Flat; two sons, Joe Junior Shaw of Flint, Mich., Arthur Love Jr. of Hickory Flat; three brothers, John Shaw, Jessie Shaw, both of Memphis, Tenn., Isaiah Shaw of Paducah, Ky.; two sisters, Mittie Smith of Peoria, Ill., Elvira Shaw of Guys, Tenn.; eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Gary Smith, Jerome Hervey, William Garner, Blue Mountain Lodge #107, Willie K. Shaw, Freddie Hervey and Lakenya Harris. Honorary pallbearers were Joe J. Shaw, Arthur Love, Jessie Shaw, Robert Hale, John Shaw and Isaiah Shaw.

Robert Henry Skelton

Robert Henry Skelton, 80, of Moscow, Tenn., died July 30, 2006 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was the widower of Ila Skelton. He was a truck driver and a Mason.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 1 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Nettie Davis Skelton; two sons, Eugene Skelton of Moscow, Tenn., Jimmy Skelton of Somerville, Tenn.; three daughters, Joann Miller of Lamar, Bobbie Parks of Moscow, Tenn., Janie Boone of Horn Lake; a brother, Sonny Skelton of Slayden; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Skelton.

Robert Lamar Smith

Robert Lamar Smith, 67, of Brandon, died July 26, 2006 at his home. He was a member of Crossgates Baptist Church and the Bob Maselle Sunday School class. He retired in 2002 from Woodson and Bozeman Co. after 24 years of service. A veteran of the Air National Guard, he was a 20-year member of the Brandon Exchange Club.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on July 28 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Pearl. Burial was in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

He leaves his wife of 48 years, Jane Smith; a son, Barry Wilson Smith of Birmingham, Ala.; two daughters, Lisa Faye Childers of Holly Springs, Omega Ann Hogan of Athens, Ga.; a sister, Myrna Jean Geiger of Raymond; five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to the Family Support Center to Prevent Child Abuse, 826 North St., Jackson, MS 39202.

Zollie B. Smith

Zollie B. Smith, 66, of Michigan City, died July 27, 2006 at her home. She was the widow of Eddie B. Smith. She was a member of the church choir and served on the culinary ministry.

Services were held at 12 noon on Aug. 2 at Hardaway MB Church in Michigan City, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pastor Adam Gholson officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves three sons, Jonas Woodson of Vacaville, Calif., Johnny R. Smith of Grand Junction, Tenn., Ted Smith of Michigan City; four daughters, Zollie Gibson of Michigan City, Wyvonnie Smith Lofton, Lavern Tucker, both of Memphis, Tenn., Sandra Smith of Michigan City; four brothers, Eddie L. Buggs, A.C. Buggs of Memphis, Freddie L. Buggs of Grand Junction, Tenn., Izear Buggs of Michigan City; six sisters, Louise Buggs of Memphis, Tenn., Flossie Richardson of Nashville, Tenn., Tinnie M. Gibson of Michigan City, Evelyn Hicks of Grand Junction, Tenn., Dorothy Waters of Oklahoma, Annie Smith of Boliver, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Kevin Orlando Walker

Kevin Orlando Walker, 33, of Holly Springs, died July 23, 2006 in Holly Springs. He was a member of Bible Way Church of Jesus Christ in Abbeville, a member of Bucks for Life Hunting Club and a laborer with Ashley Furniture in Ecru.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 29 at Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Potts Camp. Burial was in Baptist Hill MB Church cemetery in Potts Camp. Rev. Frank Taylor Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Katrina Brown Walker; two daughters, Nicole Walker of Holly Springs, Keiara Reynolds of Naplesville, Ill.; a son, DeNickolas Glover of Winona; three stepchildren, Kashena Brown, Dehendre Brown, Davonte Brown, all of Holly Springs; his father and mother, Cornell Walker, Annie B. Walker of Potts Camp; two sisters, Schmeka Walker of Memphis, Tenn., Lillian Walker of Potts Camp; a brother, Neal Walker of Holly Springs; and his grandmother, Annie L. Taylor of Potts Camp.

He leaves his father and mother, Truman Matthews and Nashika Moore of Lamar.
