Elphreda Brittenum Seymour, 77, of Memphis, Tenn., died July 13, 2005 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. She was the widow of James A. Seymour Sr. She was a church stewardess and choir member. She taught in Memphis City Schools for more than 39 years and she worked for Memphis Park Commission.

Services were held at Mt. Pisgah CME Church in Memphis, where she was a member. Burial was in West Tennessee Veterans cemetery in Memphis. Rev. John D. Pasley officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Natalie Jones Catchings of Memphis, Tenn.; a son, Nathan Jones III of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Hattie Brittenum Tuggle of Memphis; a brother, Lonnie Brittenum Jr. of Vacaville, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Everett Branson Sides Jr.
Everett Branson Sides Jr., 63, of Byhalia, died July 15, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was a self-employed mechanic and a Baptist.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on July 17 at Harmony cemetery in Walnut. Bro. Tony Morrow officiated. McBride Funeral Home in Ripley was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a son, Michael Sides of Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter, Michelle Burke of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters, Barbara Crouch of Memphis, Tenn., Betty Smith of Middleton, Tenn.; two brothers, Gene Sides of Byhalia, Wayne Sides of Gore, Okla.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Dyllion Kole Turner
Dyllion Kole Turner, 6 months, of Potts Camp, died July 15, 2005 in Southaven.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 18 at Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Burial was in Frayser cemetery in Potts Camp. Bro. Steve Wilson and Bro. Jon Vasquez officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his parents, Jeff and Ashley Turner of Potts Camp; a sister, Kaitlyn Turner of Barton; and grandparents, Scottie and Janet Wilson of Potts Camp, Reggie and Cathy Colbert of Pontotoc, Doris and Elbert Turner of Littleville, Ala.; great-grandmothers, Dorothy Frayser of Potts Camp, Della Wilcox of Littleville, Ala., Jessie Fay Gates of New Albany; great-grandfather, Larry Colbert of Columbus; great-grandparents, Thomas and Donna Wilson of Myrtle.

Jane C. Collins
Jane C. Collins, 82, of Holly Springs, died July 17, 2005 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Leo Collins, a member of Beverly Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs, an usher, a member of the stewardess board, a member of cemetery (plot) Committee of Beverly Chapel CME Church, and a retired nurse assistant.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jul 23 at Jones Grove MB Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two nieces who cared for her, Zelma Smith-Wiley, Bobbie Mitchell, both of Holly Springs.

Pallbearers were John Faulkner, LaJuan Jones, Anthony Jones, Nathaniel Johnson Jr., Michael Smith, Michael Johnson, Tyrone Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Willie Smith Jr., John Smith, Monroe Smith, Sammie Johnson, Landon Johnson, Joe Smith, Robert Smith, Fred Johnson, Nathaniel Johnson, Joe Bennie Collins Jr.

Catherine C. Green
Catherine C. Green, 66, of Tupelo, formerly of Senatobia, died July 17, 2005 in Holly Springs. She was a retired school teacher, a member of North Green Street Church of Christ in Tupelo, former president of the Ladies Way Maker Inc., a member of M.A.E. and NEA Teacher Association, and a member of NCNW.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jul 23 at Thyatira Church of Christ in Senatobia. Burial was in Carter Memorial Sunset Garden in Senatobia. Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Melvin D. Green; two sons, Parrish L. Green, Rock Hill, S.C., Stanley L. Green, Charlotte, N.C.; her stepmother, Beauty B. Cathey; five sisters, Thelma L. Davis of Gary, Ind., Marion Holly, Bobbie Jean Thornton, Ruby White, all of Memphis, Tenn., Josephine Boyce of Collierville, Tenn.; four brothers, Moses Cathey of Memphis, Robert James Cathey of Markham, Ill., Charles Cathey of Chicago, Ill., John E. Cathey of Memphis, Tenn.

Lonnie Hughes
Lonnie Hughes, 78, of Holly Springs, died July 19, 2005 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was retired from Reynolds Metal in Lyon, Ill.

Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. on July 20 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Joe T. Lester officiated.

He leaves a daughter, Fannie L. Lampley of Holly Springs; three sons, Gerome Hughes of Chicago, Ill., Edward Hughes of Holly Springs, Rodney Eric Young of Stone Mountain, Ga.; two sisters, LeGusta Dowdy, Valcine H. Nunnally, both of Memphis, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Era Durelle Mincey
Era Durelle Mincey, 72, of Waterford, died July 22, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Robert J. Mincey and a school bus driver.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on July 26 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Laws Hill, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Arnold Goode officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Debra Bramlett of Winona; a brother, James V. Weatherington of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Sue Willis of Clinton; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her son, Joel Harris.

Alice Pinkham
Alice Pinkham, 53, of Memphis, Tenn., died July 21, 2005 in Greenville. She was a Baptist and a secretary.

Services were held at 6 p.m. on July 25 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Frank Feathers officiated.

She leaves a daughter, Tasha Cole of Memphis; two brothers, Nicky Culver of Memphis, Stuart (Bubba) Pinkham of Sardis; and four grandchildren.

Edward Eugene Saxon
Edward Eugene Saxon, 82, of Waterford, died July 25, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare. He was a Baptist and a trim carpenter.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 27 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Spring Hill cemetery in Waterford. Bro. Bobby McKay and Mike Reaves officiated.

He leaves his wife, Lois Saxon; two daughters, Ludis Reaves of Olive Branch, Jeana Rowland of Waterford; three sisters, Hazel Wilson of Holly Springs, Ruth Young, Pauline Cardwell, both of Waterford; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rebecca Reaves Richmond

Pallbearers were Stanley Goodwin, Johnny Cardwell, Kent Wilson, Alfred Wilson, Eddie Young, James Young, Lloyd Young, Ray Huey, Jimmie Rushing, Clyde Culver and Carlton Rowland.

A.Z. Smith
A.Z. Smith, 67, of Michigan City, died July 15, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville, Tenn. He was a church deacon, Sunday school superintendent, choir president, community activist, 12-year member of Benton County School Board, member of Cliff Finch’s Governor staff, a member of Masonic Lodge #353 in Grand Junction, civil rights activist and a 36-year employee of Carrier Corporation.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 23 at Hardaway MB Church in Michigan City, where he was a member. Burial was in Mitchell cemetery in Michigan City. Rev. Adam Gholson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Mattie L. Peterson Smith; three daughters, Mattie Burnett Richmond of Slayden, Azell Smith of Memphis, Tenn., Wanda Thomas of Ashland; a son, Jovernia Smith of Michigan City; two sisters, Arginer Richardson of Nashville, Tenn., Lou Bradley of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, John Edward Smith of Grand Junction, Tenn., Jimmie Lee Smith of Los Angeles, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnny Ray Smith, Ted Smith, Boris Smith, Byron Smith, Dee Williams, Angelo Nunnally. Honorary pallbearers were Jovernia Smith, Johne Smith, Jimmie Lee Smith, James Peterson, Jonas Woodson, Eugene Stewart.

Roosevelt Young Jr.
Roosevelt (Boot) Young Jr., 49, of Memphis, Tenn., died July 15, 2005 at American Health Care in Memphis, Tenn.

Services were held at 4 p.m. on July 23 at Concord MB Church in Slayden, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Clyde W. Williams, pastor, officiated. Serenity Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a daughter, Lahomal Young-Horton of Victoria; four brothers, Chester L. Young of Holly Springs, Theodore Young of Byhalia, John F. Young of Memphis, Tenn., Stanley Young of Atlanta, Ga.; six sisters, Ruby M. Young, Rosie M. Young, Evelyn Stigger-Rosser, Barbara A. Young, Sarah A. Kimbrough, all of Memphis, Gloria J. Young of Holly Springs; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Alonz Young.

Pallbearers were Kimmie Waller, Tony Anderson, Willie Briggs, Robert Brittenum, Odell Young and Vincent Gorman.

Daniel Gene Zarnstorff
Daniel Gene Zarnstorff, 56, of Memphis, Tenn., died July 21, 2005 in Memphis. He was a Methodist, a photographer and a stagehand.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on July 23 at Liberty Methodist Church. Bro. Bill Kemp officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his parents, Leslie and Margaret Zarnstorff of Snow Lake; two sisters, Linda Davis of Snow Lake, Carol Reynolds of Brandon; a nephew and two nieces.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Association.

William M. Banks Jr.
William M. Banks Jr., 77, of McKees Rocks, Penn., formerly of Oxford, died July 21, ,2005 at Green Tree, Penn. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Green Tree, a graduate of Oxford Training School, a member of the football team of Alcorn College, a member of the basketball team. He became a priest in the Aaronic Priesthood and an elder in the Melchizedek Priesthood. He was a retired truck driver with Star Furniture, and Serta Mattress for 40 years.

Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 1 at St. Peters cemetery in Oxford. Rev. Leroy Wadlington officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Arlene Johnson Banks; two sons, Marcel Coleman of Harrisburgh, Penn., William Banks III of Pittsburg, Penn.; two sisters, Elizabeth Rogers of Oxford, Doris Spruille of Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jack Byrd Sr.
(Doc) Jack Byrd Sr., 73, of Holly Springs, died July 27, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare Systems. He was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church and a road worker with Marshall County Road Department.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 30 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek cemetery in Lamar. Bro. Frank Feathers officiated.

He leaves his mother, Nellie Byrd of Holly Springs; a brother, Walker Byrd of Olive Branch; and a sister, Effie Bolden of Holly Springs.

Pallbearers were Heath Bolden, Derrick Byrd, Jesse Stewart, Chris Bolden, Joe Byrd, Bo Byrd, Tim Cothern and Randy Byrd.

Eddie Lee Hughes
Eddie Lee Hughes, 52, of Marshall County, died July 29, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare in Holly Springs. He worked for Roura Iron Works for 21 years. He was a painter.

Services were held at 12 noon on Aug. 3 at St. Matthew Baptist Church in Byhalia. Burial was in the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two daughters, Toya Hughes of Holly Springs, Jessica Everette of Michigan City; five brothers, Fred Hughes of Willoughby, Ohio, William Hughes of Noblesville, Ind., Robert (Bob) Hughes of Huntsville, Ala., Larry Hughes of Byhalia, Lee Roy Hughes of Indianopolis, Ind.; six sisters, Lillie Spight of Holly Springs; Cora Jones of Byhalia, Bonnie McGee of Rose Hill, Johnnie Ingram of Holly Springs, Deborah A. Scales of Holly Springs, Veanna Taylor of Norcross, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

Martha Anne Greer
Martha Anne Greer, 75, of Holly Springs, died July 31, 2005 at her home. She was a Methodist, a member of the Town and Country Garden Club and The Thursday Club.

A private family service was held. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, A.Q. Greer; two sons, Curtis Greer of Holly Springs, John Robert Greer of Oxford; and five grandchildren.
