Olivia Smith Sanderson
Olivia Smith Sanderson, 83, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 30, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs. The widow of Wilson Sanderson, she was a member of Anderson Chapel CME Church, where she was a stewardess, in the choir, and a missionary. She was a nurse aide for 28 years at the Marshall County Hospital.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sept. 4 at Anderson Chapel wtih burial in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Denise Anders-Modest officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Grace Marie Burns of Holly Springs; a son, Ricky Sanderson of Buzzard Bay, Mass., a stepson, Joseph Finley of Memphis, Tenn., a sister, Mary Turner of Jackson, Mich.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gladys Sanderson.

Pallbearers were Michael Nunnally, Clayton Campell III, Patrick Campbell, Terry Glover, Jonathan Jones, Shermon Miller. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Burton, Clayton Campbell Jr., Joseph Ford, Bennie Nunnally, Michael Anderson and Frank Savage.

Ora Belle Moore Jenkins Butler
Ora Belle Moore Jenkins Butler, 86, of Michigan City, formerly of Kirkwood, Mo., died Dec. 27, 2004 at Primary Rehabilitation Center in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Freeman Jenkins and Rev. Christopher Columbus Butler, a member of the Mother Board, Missionary Society and program committee. She was a retired nursing assistant, a former member of St. Matthews CME Church, Kirkwood, Mo., and Mother Board.

Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 30 at Sims Chapel MB Church in Michigan City, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Adam Gholson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home in Holly Springs was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four daughters, Barbara Dant of Bolingbrook, Ill., June Wright of Colorado Springs, Colo., Phyllis Jones, Norma Manse, both of Flourissant, Mo.; two sisters, Sarah Robinson, Jessie Mae Epps, both of Michigan City; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patrice Jenkins; and two brothers, Walter H. Moore Sr., Edmond Macon Moore.

Pallbearers were her sons-in-law and grandsons: Melvin Dant, Michael Dant, Gerald Jones, Donnell Manse, Sean Segers, Wayne Wright Jr.

Elvira Campbell
Elvira Campbell, 91, of Taylor, died Dec. 30, 2004 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville. She was a very active church member.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 5 at Clear Creek MB Church in Oxford. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Eddie Golliday officiated. Serenity Funeral Home Inc. of Holly Springs was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a step-son, Alfred Campbell of Oxford; a sister, Magnolia Agnew of Tupelo; and 10 grandchildren.

Jack Dudly Fisher
Jack Dudly Fisher, 83, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 28, 2004. He was the widower of Kathleen B. Fisher and Sally Jo Fisher. He served in World War II in the United States Navy as an electronics instructor. He was the general manager of Radio Supply in Wichita, Kan., until 1959. He held a commercial pilot license with an instrument rating and was licensed to fly single and multi-engine airplanes as well as helicopters. He took a position with Lavender Radio Supply in Memphis, Tenn., and purchased a small farm in Michigan City. His other ventures included the first mobile phone system in North Mississippi in which he jointly owned and operated, providing technology consulting using his in-house computer system. He served as part time constable and deputy sheriff for Benton County. He also served as the postmaster for the Michigan City post office. He was employed at First State Bank in Holly Springs and provided information technology consulting services through his 81st birthday. He had a strong interest in amateur radio. His first call sign was W0QUU and in 1964 he was the home base radio man for the Plaisted Polar Expedition to the North Pole.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 1 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.

He leaves two daughters, Jan Loomer of Minong, Wisc., Valerie Dow of Rio Rancho, N.M.; a son, Don Fisher of Cary, N.C.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Pallbearers were Terry Loomer, John Booth Farese, Carlos Wilson, James Houston Miller, Danny Houck, Dr. Kenneth Williams. Honorary pallbearers were John Loftin, Joe Karr. Alternate pallbearers were Gale Houck, Chris Dow, Mary Jo Fisher.

Jerry M. Glasco
Jerry M. Glasco, 54, of Hickory Flat, formerly of Nesbit, died Dec. 27, 2004 at home. He was a disabled veteran of Vietnam.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 29 at Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Hernando. Burial was in McKay cemetery in Hernando.

He leaves his wife, Alberta Glasco; three daughters, Lori Glasco of Ripley, Amanda Churchill of Potts Camp, Alayna Glasco of Hickory Flat; a son, David Glasco of Burnsville; his mother, Maxine Bennett of Ripley; two sisters, Betty Norman of Harmontown, Linda Wilbanks of Potts Camp; a brother, Johnny Glasco of Ripley; and eight grandchildren.

Mary Alice Goode
Mary Alice Goode, 76, of Potts Camp, died Dec. 29, 2004 at home. She was retired from the Wurlitzer Co.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 1 at Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Steve Wilson officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves three sons, Kenneth Goode, Randy Goode, both of Potts Camp, Lynn Goode of Palm Bay, Fla.; five daughters, Carolyn Churchill of Memphis, Barbara Alsup of Germantown, Frankie Shaw of Potts Camp, Jo Tanner of Blue Mountain, Karie Hale of Potts Camp; a brother, Terrell Rhea of Potts Camp; two sisters, Gracie McCallum of Potts Camp, Dorothy Bostic of Bluefield, Va.; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margie Goode; two grandchildren, Stacy Side, Mark Goode; and one great-grandchild, Natalie Hale.

Pallbearers were Jamie Potts, Eric Goode, Paul Dickerson, Thomas Goode, Henry Goode, Jonathan Hale, Cody Goode.

Curtis W. Gurley Sr.
Curtis W. Gurley Sr., 93, of Byhalia, died Jan. 1, 2005, at Baptist DeSoto in Southaven. He was the widower of Dorothy Mae Shaw Gurley, a Baptist, and a self-employed welder, and mechanic.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 3 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Byhalia cemetery.

He leaves five sons, Curtis Eugene Gurley of Byhalia, Walter Douglas Gurley of Southaven, Joel Philmore Gurley of Potts Camp, Marion Lewis Gurley of San Diego, Calif., Curtis W. Gurley Jr. of Byhalia; five daughters, Jeannie Louise Salter of Hoschton, Ga., Cornelia Susie Gilliland of Olive Branch, Dorothy Lajune Watson of Southaven, Patricia Cole of Southaven, Betty Jo Tuttle of Como; a brother, William Gurley of Germantown, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Patsy Ann Rainey
Patsy Ann Rainey, 55, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 29, 2004 at home. She was a member of Rossville Baptist Church, and a former clerk with Burdett’s Cleaners.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 31 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Carey Chapel cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

She leaves her husband, Billy Gene Rainey Sr. of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, Perry Foster, Robert Foster, both of Sulligent, Ala.; six sisters, Shelia Taylor, Sue Mayberry, Mary Blaylock, all of Sulligent, Ala., Neltha Foreman of Senatobia, Nell Holiday of Sulligent, Ala., Odell Lambert of Cherry Valley, Ark.

She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Gene Rainey Jr.

Alonzo Rhine
Alonzo Rhine, 45, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 31, 2004.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2005 at Gray’s Chapel CME Church in Hudsonville, where he was a member. Burial will be in Shiloh MB Church cemetery in Ashland. Rev. Roderick Lester will officiate. Serenity Funeral Home Inc. of Holly Springs is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Jackie Rhine; his parents, Tommie and Katie Rhine of Ashland; three children, Matricia, Sharmeen and Adrian Rhine, all of Minnesota; two brothers, Tommy Rhine of Lamar, Floyd Rhine of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Patricia Hoyle, Angie Cole, both of Ashland; two special cousins James Riddle, Willie Earl Riddle and a friend Wesley, all of Memphis.

Pallbearers were Devin Riddle, Wilford Rhine, Issac Glover, Willie Riddle, John Seldon and James Riddle.

Dina Ann Taylor
Dina Ann Taylor, 60, of Potts Camp, died Dec. 27, 2004 at Hickory Flat. She was a Baptist and a bookkeeper.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 30 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Pine Grove cemetery in Hickory Flat.

She leaves her husband, James Rufus Taylor; two sons, James Michael Taylor, Jonah Monroe Taylor, both of Potts Camp; two daughters, Tammy McNabb of Bartlett, Angela Harris of Potts Camp; a brother, Ary Lee Hood Jr. of Byhalia; a sister, Evelyn Cook of Hernando; and eight grandchildren.

Zadie Bowen
Zadie Bowen, 90, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Holly Springs, and Chicago, Ill., died Jan. 3, 2005 at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Las Vegas. She was the widow of Alex Wells, a former member of Mt. Peel MB Church in Laws Hill, and a retired beautician.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 15 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Holly Springs. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Rev. Evelyn Elliott officiated.

She leaves a daughter, Mary H. Burke of Las Vegas; a sister, Neddie Lemons of Holly Springs; a grandson, Richard E. Burke of Las Vegas; and a great-granddaughter, Raven Burke of Chicago.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Madie Bowen, Kansas Green, Clara Avery; and six brothers, Galvesteon Bowen, Doc. M. Bowen, Matt C. Bowen, Lemon Bowen, Artis Bowen, Gary Bowen.

Pallbearers were friends and family.

Laura C. Burchette
Laura C. Burchette, 92, of Collierville, Tenn., died Jan. 11, 2005 at Collierville Baptist Church. She was the widow of James Newsom Burchette.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 14 at First Baptist Church Collierville, where she was a member. Burial was in Magnolia cemetery in Collierville. Son-in-law Dr. Michael O’Brian officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four sons, J.T. Burchette of Loudon, Tenn., Owens Burchette of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Leon Burchette of Collierville, Stanley Burchette of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., three daughters, Mary Skelton, Eva Watkins, both of Collierville, Nita O’Brien of Lexington; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons.

Nettie Maye Medlin Cunningham
Nettie Maye Medlin Cunningham, 93, of Byhalia, died Jan. 14, 2005 at Collierville Baptist Hospital. She was the widow of Isaac David Cunningham.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 17 at Byhalia cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four daughters, Jean Nichols of Smyrna, Tenn., Mary Dillingham of Horn Lake, Ida Holyfield, Brenda Holyfield, both of Byhalia; two sons, John Spellman of Searcy, Ark., William Spellman of Potts Camp; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Sibyl Garner
Sibyl Garner, 94, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 14, 2005 at Trinity Missions Nursing Home. She was the widow of Lewis J. Garner, a member of First Baptist Holly Springs, a sales clerk with Miller’s Department Store. She moved to Holly Springs in 1947 and joined First Baptist Church in Holly Springs. She was a member of Eastern Star for 25 years.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 17 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Salem cemetery in Etta. Dr. Curtis Ferrell officiated.

She leaves three sons, Keith Garner of Memphis, Tenn., Hugh B. Garner of Millington, Neil Garner of Pickwick, Tenn.; a sister, Alvree Sneed; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Walker.

Pallbearers were Tony Garner, David Walker, Herman Young, Michael Coleman, Blair Garner, Ben Gaines Jr., David Weir.
