NATCHEZ - Services for Rosie Lee Smith, 92, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. James

Anderson officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 8 to 12 today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Ms. Smith was born icon March 27, 1911, in Waterproof, La., the daughter of Will Davis and Consrella McGaly.

She was retired and a Baptist.

Survivors include step-daughter, Marguite Williams and her nine children of Natchez; granddaughter, Thelma Williams of Natchez; friends, Maggie Griffin, Jerry Douglas, Ollie Isaac, Lucille Wimberly, Rosie Lee Williams and Rosemary Redd, all of Natchez.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Lawrence Abrams

NATCHEZ - Funeral arrangements for Lawrence Abrams, 93, of Slidell, La., formerly of Natchez, who died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, are incomplete at Laird Funeral Home.

Mary Louise Heathcoate

Nov. 15, 1931 - Jan. 17, 2003

NATCHEZ - Graveside services for Mary Louise "Moody" Heathcoate, 71, of Vidalia, La., who died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, in Trout, La., will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Natchez National cemetery with the Rev. Mike O'Brien officiating.

Burial will be under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Laird Funeral Home's Union Street chapel.

Mrs. Heathcoate was born icon Nov. 15, 1931, in Natchez, the daughter of Robert Lee and Mary Theresa Tageant Hughes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl William Heathcoate, and two sons, John Wesley Heathcoate and William Lee Heathcoate.

Survivors include three children, Carl Robert Heathcoate of Newberry, S.C., Charles Ray Heathcoate of Mesquite, Texas, and Mary Theresa Heathcoate of Jena, La.; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Margaret S. Brown

RED LICK - Graveside services for Margaret S. Brown, 90, of Florence, who died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at her residence, will be at 10 a.m. today at Beech Hill cemetery with the Rev. Michael O'Brien officiating.

A rosary service was held at 7 p.m. Monday. Glenwood Funeral Home of Port Gibson is in charge of arrangements.

A native of Jefferson County, Mrs. Brown was a Catholic and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bertrand Brown.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Smith of Florence; two sons, Gary Brown of Ridgeland and Scott Brown of Red Lick; gradchildren, June Brown of Natchez, Bert Brown of Hammond and Joseph Brown of Ridgeland; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Johnny and Jimmy Fraiser, Anthony Marvelli, Powell Hudson, Steve Larson and Malcom Walters. Honorary pallbearers will be J.P. Smith, John D. Fraiser, Mac Walters, Ray Brown and Zeke Brown.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations by made to Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland or Beech Hill cemetery fund.

Ethel Evans

NATCHEZ - Funeral arrangements for Ethel Evans, 86, of Natchez, who died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, are incomplete at George F. West Funeral Home.

William Bradley Smith

WOODVILLE - Services for William Bradley "Brad" Smith, 18, of St. Francisville, La., who died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, near St. Francisville, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Walter Brown officiating.

Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery in Woodville under the direction of Berryhill Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Mr. Smith was a student at ITT Technology School in Baton Rouge.

He was preceded in death by two grandparents, Lillian "Peggy" Smith and Rehon Hudnall Jr.

Survivors include his parents, Louis Neyland and Susan Hudnall Smith of St. Francisville; grandparents Eddie L. Smith Jr. of Lake Mary and Carol Geter and Freddie Geter of Vicksburg; one sister, Rebecca Renae Smith of St. Francisville; two brothers, Louis Neyland Smith Jr. and Jonathan Ross Smith, both of St. Francisville; and a friend, Krystal Duckworth of St. Francisville.

Pallbearers will be E.J. Arceneaus, Ryan Laney, Rusty Kleinpeter, Adam Cornette, Brandson Daniel and James Scott.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Stewart Daniel, Josh Prince, David Bailey, Justin Metz, Eddie Covington, David Hidalgo, Josh Rickets, Justin Williams and Brent Roberts.

Bessie Joffrion Bess Grinnell

March 28, 1907 - Jan. 14, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Bessie Joffrion Bess Grinnell, 95, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at King Soloman Baptist Church with the Rev. Freddie Schiele officiating.

Burial will be at Watkins Street cemetery under the direction of R.D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to service on Wednesday.

Mrs. Grinnell was born icon March 28, 1907, in Adams County, the daughter of Abraham Joffrion and Bessie Duncan Joffrion. She was a graduate of the Brumfield class of 1926, was a member of King Soloman Baptist Church and its missionary society and was a licensed practical nurse.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Judge Grinnell; three sisters, Yvonne Smith, Emma Lyle and Eucharist Pearl; and two brothers, James Edward Joffrion and Tanner Joffrion Theodore.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Arlene and Hymes Harris of Natchez; a grandson and his wife, Cedric and Kinda Grinnell of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; four grandchildren, Ryan, Troy, Lauryn and Alexander Grinnell; and a number of relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Jimmy Lamar Hall

TUPELO - Services for Jimmy Lamar Hall, 55, of Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Tupelo, who died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at W.E. Pegues Funeral Home's Jefferson Street chapel in Tupelo with Elders Roger Browning and Larry Wise and the Rev. Rick Latham officiating.

Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Glasgow cemetery at Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church in Pontotoc County.

Hall was born icon Jan. 7, 1948, in Randolph, the son of Jesse Ray and Ava Houpt Hall.

He was a graduate of Randolph High School. Mr. Hall received his bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University and his master's degree from the University of Mississippi.

Mr. Hall was a math teacher, guidance counselor and assistant principal at Milam Junior High School. He was a principal at Rankin Elementary School and Tupelo Middle School. He retired from education in Mississippi in 1997 after 27 years.

He moved to Birmingham and served as principal of Columbiana Middle School in Shelby County for five years. He retired from education in Alabama in 2002.

Mr. Hall was a former junior varsity football coach at Milam. He was an assistant soccer coach for the Tupelo Youth Soccer Association for numerous years.

Mr. Hall was a Primitive Baptist.

Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kenneth Hall; maternal grandparents, Clarence and Jimmie Aplis Houpt; and paternal grandparents, Jesse G. and Ada Hall.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda McCord Hall; one son, Samuel Ray Hall, and his wife, Tara, both of Houston; three aunts, Leona Davis of Pontotoc, Evelyn Hoing of Randolph, and Faye Goodman of Fallon, Nev.; one uncle, Judson Houpt of Randolph; and several cousins and friends.

Pallbearers are Clarence Earl Hoing, Alan Houpt, Bobby Billings, Bennie Martin, Don Robertson, Walter Burns, David Thomason, Allen McDaniel, David Dixon and Jim Hyche.

Rita Kay Smith

Rita Kay Smith, 52, of Waterford, died Nov. 26, 2006 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a member of Harmontown Baptist, an RN with North Mississippi Medical Center and former owner/operator of Edlin’s Fish Place in Laws Hill.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 29 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Harmontown Baptist Church cemetery. Bro. Jim Pinkerton officiated.

She leaves her husband, David Smith; her daughter, Heather Cannon of Jackson; and her mother, Jean Edlin of Laws Hill.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clifton Gene Edlin.

Joe Edward Spiller

Joe Edward (Billy) Spiller, 72, of New Albany, died Nov. 20, 2006 at Union County Health and Rehab in New Albany. He was employed with First National Bank for many years. He was a member of Union Grove MB Church, where he served as a trustee and choir member.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 25 at Union Grove MB Church. Burial was in Hillcrest cemetery in New Albany. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves four children, Margaret Spiller-Flemings, Martha Spiller Gardner, Mark Spiller, all of New Albany, Billy Joe Spiller of St. Louis, Mo.; three sisters, Nora Mae Wilson of New Albany, Louise Satterwhite, Mary Ann Harris, both of Evanston, Ill.; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Spiller.

Mattie Elnora Porter Wilson

Mattie Elnora Porter Wilson, 100, of Waterford, died Nov. 19, 2006 at her home. She was the widow of Willie F. Wilson, a Sunday school teacher, treasurer, stewardess, a member of the Missionary Society, member of Lodge, Sunrise Chapter 166 and a retired assistant teacher with ICS Headstart.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 25 at Hamilton Chapel CME Church in Waterford, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Billy Williams officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves three daughters, Elmira Marion Driver of Waterford, Addie Bell Ross of St. Louis, Mo., Mary Morris of Kansas City, Mo.; two sons, Joe Louis Wilson, Franklin D. Wilson, both of Memphis, Tenn.; 36 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons Bryant Porter, Lloyd Pegues, Charles Ross, Frazier Wilson Jr., Donald Porter, Ricky Porter, Dennis Marion and Cordell Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were James Morriss, Clyde Driver, Joe Wilson and Franklin Wilson.

Annie Laurie Driver

Annie Laurie Driver, 59, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 18, 2006 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 21 at Heritage Apostolic Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Bro. G.R. Travis officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a son Joey Horwitz of Joshua, Texas; two daughters, Tracy Grier, Angel Donaldson, both of Joshua; her mother, Louise Evans of Potts Camp; six brothers, Bobby Lewis, Jimmy Evans, both of Potts Camp, Johnny Evans of Memphis, Charles Evans, Danny Evans, Terry Evans, all of Potts Camp; three sisters, Jeannie Ash, Debbie Stanton, both of Potts Camp, Sandra Lyon of Olive Branch; and two special Christian friends, Truman Jarrett and Charles Massey.

Morris Gammons

Morris Gammons, 65, of Waterford, died Nov. 18, 2006 at his home. A Baptist, he was a welder with Fruehauf Trailers.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 20 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Hill Crest cemetery. Bro. James Sandy officiated.

He leaves his wife, Glynda Gammons; two sons, Jeff Rikard of Waterford, Chad Gammons of Horn Lake; four daughters, Theresa Thompson of Lamar, Wanda Stewart of Strayhorn, Denise Skelton of Potts Camp, Hayley Jackson of Waterford; two sisters, Margie Jamison of Holly Springs, Rosie Smith of Southaven; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Gammons.
