James Waylon Cruse, 39, of Los Angeles, Calif., died May 5, 2006 at Cedars Medical Center. He graduated from Ouachita Christian High School in Monroe, La. He attended Louisiana Tech University at Ruston, La. He was a journalist.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on May 13 at Old Macedonia cemetery. Rev. Faron Ash officiated. Eulogy given by Tina Walker of Los Angeles. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his parents, Wilburn and Brooksie Cruse of Potts Camp; a sister, Lawana Guerry of Orlando, Fla.; two nephews, Wayne and Daniel of Orlando, Fla.; and a special caretaker, Sean Ronay.

Pallbearers were Bobby Ray Allbritton, Earnest Cruse, Ricky Gandy, David Hill, Keith Laws and Sid Walker. Honorary pallbearer was Allen Cruse from Merryville, La.

Travion Montez Dowdy

Travion Montez Dowdy, newborn, died May 13, 2006 at Baptist-DeSoto Hospital.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on May 20 at Finley Grove cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his mother, Trakelia Dowdy; his father, Brian Sumlar; maternal grandparents, Darlene Dowdy and Archie Ham; great-grandmother, Janie Dowdy; and his sister, Shakiyah Davis.

Mary Elizabeth Elliott

Mary Elizabeth Elliott, 77, of Hickory Flat, died May 21, 2006 at Baptist East in Memphis, Tenn. She was a seamstress with Irwin B. Schwabe.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on May 23 at Hickory Flat Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Pine Grove cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a son, Larry G. Elliott of Hickory Flat; a daughter, Johnnie L. Roberson of Ashland; three brothers, Ruby B. Blaylock of Grenada, Ralph Blaylock of Southaven, Robert Blaylock of Cahokia, Ill.; four sisters, Dorothy Marie Counts of Donaphin, Mo., Pearl Rose Sparks of Memphis, Tenn., Joyce Maness of Memphis, Tenn., Emeline Payne of Potts Camp; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Versie Mae Gammons

Versie Mae Gammons, 93, of Holly Springs, died May 17, 2006 at her home. She was the widow of Howard Lee Gammons. She was a member of Heritage Christian in Southaven.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 19 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery. Bro. James Sandy officiated.

She leaves a son, Morris Gammons of Waterford; two daughters, Margie Ann Jamieson of Holly Springs, Rosie Smith of Southaven; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Rivers Gammons and Jerry Gammons; and by two grandsons, Brian Gammons and Jeffrey Jamieson.

Rodney Patrick Gray

Rodney Patrick Gray, 32, of Lamar, died May 20, 2006 at his home. He was a Baptist and a plumber.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 22 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Rice Chapel cemetery in Lamar.

He leaves his wife, Melisha Churchill Gray; two sons, Jeremy Gray, Steven Gray, both of Lamar; a daughter, Rebeccah Gray of Lamar; his parents, Paul and Sarah Gray of Collierville, Tenn.; and two brothers, Paul Gray of Ashland, Chris Gray of Holly Springs.

Elizabeth Perkins Harper

Elizabeth Perkins Harper, 40, of Holly Springs, died May 13, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was an LPN with Byhalia Medical Clinic and Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 20 at Kimbrough Chapel MB Church, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. J.W. Smith Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Clyde Harper; two daughters, Sondra Perkins, Kierra Harper, both of Holly Springs; a son, Eldrick Perkins of Holly Springs; five sisters, Irene Mayfield, Lisa McKinney, Ida McKinney, Ethel Raimey, Delois White, all of Holly Springs; five brothers, Tom Raimey, Robert McKinney, Michael Perkins, all of Holly Springs, James McKinney, Edgar Lee McKinney, both of Champaign, Ill.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Jane Isom, Deborah McKinney.

Pallbearers were John Isom, Terrance Isom, Darin Isom, Aldyth Nunally Sr., Andrew Raimey and Eddie Lee Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Raimey, Michael Perkins, Edgar Lee McKinney, Robert Lee McKinney, Frank Isom and Derail Isom.

Edward Roberts McGowan Jr.

Edward Roberts McGowan Jr., 89, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Holly Springs, died May 21, 2006 at Westminster Towers. He was a real estate broker, U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Freemason, Scottish Rite, Shriner, Rotarian, Kiwaniana, a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bradenton, and a member of Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church in Ft. Myers.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on May 27 at Westminster Towers. Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Susan; a daughter, Marion McGowan Proctor of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Edward Roberts McGowan III of Lake Alfred, Fla.; a brother, Dr. Thomas R. McGowan of Philadelphia, Penn.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238, or Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, 19251 N. Tamiami, N. Ft. Myers, FL 33903.

J.P. Ingram

J.P. Ingram, 78, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Byhalia, died May 15, 2006 in Byhalia. He was the widower of Ida Mae Hubbard Ingram. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired housekeeper with VA Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on May 19 at Greater Faith Tabernacle Ministries in Memphis, Tenn. Burial was at 11 a.m. on May 23 in West Tennessee Veterans cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves three daughters, Sadie Truesdale, Iris Houston and Debbie Ingram Harding, all of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Wilma Jones of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Lester Benson of Memphis, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Sellers; and a son, James Mitchel Ingram Sr.

Pallbearers were Lester Jones, Ronnie Brunson, Kipplin Plummer, Willet Holdman, Charles Osby, Wendell Jones and Melvin Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Tony D. Grandberry, Erick Harding, Kenneth J. Ingram, Kenneth E. Williams, Derrick Harding, James M. Ingram, Michael Ingram and Cory Wicks.

Thelma Jackson

Thelma Jackson, 84, of Holly Springs, died May 11, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare Center.

Services were held at 12 noon on May 20 at Providence MB Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in New Hope MB Church cemetery in Laws Hill. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangments.

She leaves a daughter, Doris Mallory of Holly Springs; 12 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Lorine Pruitt

Lorine Pruitt, 79, of Munford County, Tenn., formerly of Laws Hill, died May 18, 2006 in Covington, Tenn. She was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church in Millington, Tenn. and employed at Rawls Drug Store.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on May 21 at Mt. Moriah cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Carol Zabzdyr of Chino Hills, Calif.; a brother, Jesse Fesmire of Brighton, Tenn.; five sisters, Marie Pryor of Oxford, Louise Moncrief of Harmontown, Marcell Slankard of Wichita, Kan., Lena Jewell McCarver of Memphis, Tenn., Katherine Usry of Rincon, Ga.; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Anthony Isaiah Reynolds

Anthony Isaiah Reynolds, 3 months old, of Holly Springs, died May 12, 2006 at Baptist Women’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. on May 20 at Mt. Peel MB Church Memorial Garden. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his parents, Arnetrice Reynolds and Antonio Phillips; three brothers, Jecorery Hardin, Tyrese Hardin, Tyler McJunkin; a sister, Tamia Reynolds; maternal grandmother, Mary Ann Courtney; and paternal grandmother, Theresa Phillips.

T.P. St. John

T.P. St. John, 68, of Byhalia, died May 16, 2006. He was a member of Byhalia United Methodist Church. T.P. survived an almost fatal accident leaving him physically handicapped. He was elected to the public office of Marshall County road supervisor, where he served for eight years. T.P. remained active in many diverse businesses and community activities.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 19 at Byhalia United Methodist Church. Burial was in Byhalia cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home of Olive Branch was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Faye; sons, Jeffery Adams (Jay) St. John and David Norfleet St. John; two sisters, Shirley Moore and Marilyn Hawthorne; and four grandchildren, Brittany, Savannah, Justin and Joshua.

The family requests that memorials be sent to Byhalia United Methodist Enrichment Center, Post Office Box 6, Byhalia, MS 38611.

Vivian Lamardell Rhea

Vivian Lamardell Rhea, 61, of Potts Camp, died May 16, 2006 at her home. She was a member of Keownville Baptist Church in New Albany.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 19 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cornersville cemetery in Potts Camp.

She leaves her husband, Don Rhea; two sons, Dale Rhea of Myrtle, Ricky Rhea of Cornersville; a daughter, Tommie Gail Easley of Center; five sisters, Minnie Greene, Lenore Vance, both of Dayton, Ohio, Barbara Powell of Emboden, Brenda Mamula of Dayton, Ohio, Pam Zweifel of Brazil, Ind.; and six grandchildren.

Mamie McKinney Washington

Mamie McKinney Washington, 92, of Senatobia, died May 12, 2006 at her granddaughter’s home in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of the Usher board and Mother board.

Services were held at 4 p.m. on May 19 at Mt. Peel MB Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. R. Cox officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a granddaughter, Janice Milam of Memphis, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Terry Dye of Olive Branch, Kelly Milam of Memphis, Tenn., Gary McKinney of Memphis, Tenn.; 10 great-great-grandchildren and six great-great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were James Holts Sr., Steve Holts, Steve Milam, Carlos Smith, Billie Joe Milam and Frank Milam Jr.

Hugh Alexander

Hugh Alexander, 41, of Thyatira, died Aug. 15 at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 18 at Pate-Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Senatobia. Burial was in Thyatira cemetery.

He leaves a daughter, Erica Alexander of Byhalia; three sons, Eric Alexander, Cody Alexander, Austin Alexander, all of Byhalia; four brothers, Johnny Alexander of Horn Lake, Robert Alexander, Joe Alexander Jr., both of Independence and Ray Alexander of Holcomb.

Alice Colson Bumpas

Alice (Dixie) Colson Bumpas, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, died Aug. 20, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville, Tenn. She was the widow of Arthur Criswell Bumpas and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 23 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Union Baptist cemetery in Kossuth. Dr. Rob Finley officiated.

She leaves a son, Don W. Bumpas of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, David Lee Colson of Batesville; a sister, Frances Powell of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sons, Arthur Criswell Bumpas Jr., John Rufus Bumpas; and a brother, Noah Colson Jr.
