LORMAN - Services for Freddie Oliver Galtney, 34, of Lorman, who died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. today at Waterloo Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Howard officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Fayette.

Mr. Galtney was born icon Feb. 20, 1969, in Jefferson County, the son of David Lamar Galtney Sr. and Lillie Pearl Patten.

He was disabled and a member of Waterloo Baptist Church.

Mr. Galtney was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Oliver and Ella Mae Hayes; paternal grandparents, Rowan and Marie Galtney; one uncle, Burnell Monroe; and one aunt, Pearl Rollerson.

Survivors include his mother, Lillie Pearl Patton and her husband, Henry, both of Lorman; her father, David Lamar Galtney Sr. of Lorman; one sister, Annie Lee Galtney of Lorman; three brothers, Clarence Hayes, David Lamar Galtney Jr. and Charley Galtney, all of Lorman; five aunts, Rosemay Chambers of Detroit, Barbara Cook and her husband, Leroy, both of Omaha, Neb., Thelma Galtney and Velma Cruel and her husband, Marv, all of Lorman, Ruby Jackson of Natchez; five uncles, Freddie Lee Galtney of Detroit, Rowan Galtney Jr. of Omaha, Fielding Monroe and his wife, Agnes, all of Chicago, Lee Andrew and Freddie Monroe, both of Chicago; four great-aunts, Mary Buie of Vicksburg, Delores Oliver of Fayette, Annetta Johnson and her husband, Louis, both of Chicago and Priscilla Boones of Baton Rouge; eight nephews, Que'David, D'Davious, Danzell, Terrenell, Terenell, David III, Christopher and Dendrick; five nieces, Q'Deccia, Devion, Angelieka, Modeccia and Demeturis; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Jack Johnston

June 1, 1935 - Dec. 23, 2002

NATCHEZ - Services for Services for Jack Johnston, 67, of Vidalia, La., who died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Kay Moser officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnston was born icon June 1, 1935, in Lepanto, Ark., the son of James Henry and Ida Priscilla McQuirter Johnston.

He was a farmer, a member of Church of Christ of Lepanto, was retired from Angola State Prison as farm manager, was owner of Jack's Barbeque and a member of Vidalia Horsemen's Club and Natchez Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Johnston; one daughter, Priscilla Meraz and her husband, Gerry, both of Taylor, Texas; one son, Jackie Johnston and his wife, Darla, both of Vidalia; five sisters, Maxine Hyde and Judy Manley, both of Searcy, Ark., Anabelle Moser of Iowa, Charlene Sauder of Franklin, Ark., and Peggy Overby of Lepanto; one brother, Clyde Johnston of Searcy; six grandchildren, Rhonda Partridge and her husband, Todd, Jaclyn Martin and her husband, Cory, Nicholas Johnston and Madison Johnston, all of Vidalia, Glenn Randall of Pensacola, Fla. and Dennis Randall and his wife, Wendy, both of Thompson Station, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren, Kelsee Partridge and Kimberlee Partridge, both of Vidalia, Braden Randall of Ridgecrest, La., and Katherine Randall and Katlin Randall, both of Thompson Station.

Pallbearers will be Todd Partridge, Cory Martin, Joe Dallalio, Enis Boyd, Sonny Buckles and Ronnie Randall.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Wascom, Jimmy Wells, Clyde "Cotton" Eason, John Whitehead, Boyd Tucker, Eugene Marshall, Jimmy Sullivan, Willard Kassel and Virgil Hoggatt.

Leota Bell Owens

June 24, 1911 - Dec. 25, 2002

CENTREVILLE - Services for Leota Bell Owens, 91, of Centreville, who died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at Field Memorial Hospital in Centreville, will be at 2 p.m. today at Newman Funeral Home with the Rev. Willis Cochran officiating.

Burial will follow in Oaklawn cemetery in Centreville under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Owens was born icon June 24, 1911, the daughter of Eugene Carroll and Sarah Minnie Tousinau Hughes.

She was a member of Centreville United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David Owens Sr.; one sister, Louise Hopkins; and four brothers, Eugene "Tip" Hughes, John Carroll Hughes, William D. Hughes and Geoffrey Hughes.

Survivors include three daughters, Leota "Mitzi" Forman and Gloria Owens Baggett, both of Baker, La., and Janice Owens Stewart of Albany, La.; two sons, David Dewitt Owens Jr. of Centreville and Stanley E. Owens of Vidalia, La.; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Stan Owens Jr., David D. Owens III, Darron Cunningham, Dale Owens, Mike Forman and Andy Moon.

Frank Barland

Oct. 15, 1921 - Dec. 21, 2002

NATCHEZ - Services for Frank Barland, 81, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, were held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at George F. West Funeral Home with the Rev. Oscar Davis officiating.

Burial was in Pine Hill Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.

Mr. Barland was born icon Oct. 15, 1921, the son of Lucille Hicks.

Survivors include his foster mother, Katie Hawkins of Natchez; one son, Fredrick Bernard Adams of New Orleans; and a number of cousins.

Pallbearers were friends of the family.

Dexter Byrd

Nov. 8, 1938 - Dec. 25, 2002

NATCHEZ - Services for Dexter Byrd, 64, of Meadville, who died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Laird Funeral Home with Warren Litzman, Don Byrd and Mike Morris officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Byrd was born icon Nov. 8, 1938, in Natchez, the son of Ben and Mary Etta Arnold Byrd.

He was a member of the Christlife fellowship, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and coached youth athletics.

Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Geneva Byrd Floyd and Sybil Byrd Smith; and one niece, Carmen Byrd.

Survivors include his wife, Gayle Hammett Byrd; one son, Allan Byrd and his wife, Susie, both of Natchez; two daughters, Janet Good and her husband, Lavell, and Connie Taylor and her husband, Rusty, all of Meadville; six grandchildren, Casey Good, Brandon Good, Brandi Taylor and Amanda Taylor, all of Meadville, and Malori Byrd and Benjamin Byrd, both of Natchez; three brothers, Don Byrd of Sanger, Texas, Bennie Byrd of Natchez and Tom Allen "Jack" Byrd of Meadville; two sisters, Guynell Hall of Natchez and JoAnn Hollingsworth of Baker, La.; and 23 nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Cox, Vernon "Doonie" White, Roger Arnold, Lavell Good, Rusty Taylor and Charlie Fletcher.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Cox, Bill Riley, L.C. Murray and Dr. Ben Yarbrough.

James Edward Colston

Dec. 2, 1945 - Dec. 19, 2002

NATCHEZ - Services for James Edward Colston, 57, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Windy Hill Baptist Church No. 2 with the Rev. Larry Wright Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.

The procession will leave at 10:15 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Colston was born icon Dec. 2, 1945, in Adams County, the son of Amos and Lula Colston.

He was retired from Adams County Road Management and was a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one brother, Johnny Colston and his wife, Michelle, both of Atlanta; four sisters, Debra Colston, Josie Owens, Barbra Smith and her husband, Roy, and Dorothy Middleton and her husband, Curtis, all of Natchez; five aunts; one uncle; ten nephews; six nieces; four great-nephews; and one great-niece.

Pallbearers will be Larry Brown, Mose Johnson, Pearly Brown, Fredrick Fleming and John Latham.

Charles Francis Smith

July 4, 1925 - Dec. 23, 2002

NATCHEZ - Services for Charles Francis "Bubba Son" Smith, 77, of Natchez, who died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at noon Saturday at United Baptist Church with the Rev. Shep Bethley officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.

The procession will leave at 11:30 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born icon July 4, 1925, in Natchez, the son of Samuel and Laura Smith.

He was educated in the Adams County Public Schools, was employed with Rick's Lumber and was retired from KCS Lumber. He was a member and choir member of United Baptist Church and a member of Southland Spiritual.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice D. Smith; five sons, Charles Smith Jr. and his wife, Rhonda, both of Seattle, Lonnie Dean and his wife, Anita, Maurice Dean and his wife, DeNise, Myron Dean and his wife, Lucille, and Ronnie L. Smith, all of Natchez; seven daughters, Linda G. Hicks and her husband, Wayne, and Carolyn D. Jones, all of Seattle, Sabrina Coleman and her husband, Norman, Brenda Hoye, Jacqueline Hoye, Shemika Smith and Mandy Smith, all of Natchez; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Mae Covington of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Michael Hoye, Frankie Hoye, Jerome Williams and Aaron Johnson.

Beth Thompson

PRENTISS - Services for Beth Thompson, 49, of Bassfield, who died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at MS Baptist in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Saulters-Moore Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Bassfield cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ms. Thompson was a retired university professor and a member of L.L. Roberts Methodist Church. She taught English at Indiana State University and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. She was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a master's in literature.

Survivors include one sister, Barbara Dauphin of Kingswood, Texas; three brothers, Hal Thompson of Pine Bluff, Ark., Ted Thompson of Saraland, Ala., and Dick Thompson of Natchez; seven nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth A. Parker

Aug. 21, 1906 - Dec. 24, 2002

CENTREVILLE - Services for Elizabeth A. Parker, 96, of Centreville, who died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at Field Memorial Hospital in Centreville, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. L.C. Weatherspoon officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Cook Funeral Home of Gloster.

Visitation is from noon until service time Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Parker was born icon Aug. 21, 1906, in Wilkinson County, the daughter of Gordon and Rosa Singleton Anderson.

She was a retired elementary school teacher and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, eight brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Bessie P. Fowler of Gloster and Richardstine P. James and her husband, Waldo, both of Columbia; four grandsons; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas M. Anderson and his wife, Minnie Lee, both of Champaign, Ill.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
