WOODVILLE - Services for Robert Jarvis, 71, of Woodville, who died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at River West Medical Center in Plaquemine, La., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kingsford Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd Bailey officiating.

Burial will follow in East Cedar Rest cemetery in Woodville under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Mr. Jarvis was born icon Jan. 3, 1931, in Woodville, the son of Weaver and Alberta Jarvis.

He was a retired orderly and a member of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Jarvis was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include four friends, Ed Porter, Maggie Porter, Durant Glasper and Dora Glasper, all of Woodville; and a number of cousins.

Irene H. Stewart

July 4, 1905 - Dec. 21, 2002

WOODVILLE - Services for Irene H. Stewart, 97, of Woodville, who died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Fields Memorial Hospital, will be at noon Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Scott officiating.

Burial will follow in the Stewart Family cemetery under the direction of Williams and Williams Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Ms. Stewart was born icon July 4, 1905, the daughter of John Hampton and Evelina Wells.

She was a housewife; a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she served on the deaconess board; and a member of Mount Olive Burial Association.

Ms. Stewart was preceded in death by one son, Theodore Stewart.

Survivors include two daughters, Florence Browne of Chicago and Pearlina Stewart of Ellisville; seven sons, Lehman Stewart and his wife, Pearl, both of Baton Rouge, Christopher Stewart and Selvin Stewart, both of Woodville, Noble Lee Stewart and his wife, Tress, both of San Francisco, Dr. Allen Stewart and his wife, Dr. Tommie, both of Montgomery, Ala., John Edward Stewart and his wife, Linda, both of Memphis, Tenn., and George Stewart of Ellisville; one brother, George Hampton and his wife, Ruby, both of Woodville; 28 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dwayne Brown, John Stewart Jr., Hasani H. Stewart, Allen Stewart Jr., Thomas Stewart, Darren Stewart and Dwan Carlos Stewart.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lehman Stewart, Christopher Stewart, Selvin Stewart, Noble Lee Stewart, Allen Stewart, John Stewart, George Stewart and George Hampton.

Herbert Joseph Matthews Sr.

March 14, 1922 - Dec. 24, 2002

NATCHEZ - Graveside services for Herbert Joseph Matthews Sr., 80, of Baker, La., who died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at his residence, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Greenlawn Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Chris Manard officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Matthews was born icon March 14, 1922, in Natchez, the son of James Peter and Amelia Matthews.

He was a retired security guard, a member of Harding Street Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II.

Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Louise Matthews; and one son, Herbert Joseph Matthews Jr.

Survivors include one son, James Matthews of Jackson, La.; one daughter, Olivia "Dinki" McDonald and her husband, George; one granddaughter, Sarah Fields of Port Allen, La.; and one great-grandson, Dinki Mire of Baker.

John-Martin Terranova

June 7, 1962 - Dec. 22, 2002

NATCHEZ - Services for John-Martin Terranova, 40, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at University Hospital in New Orleans, will be at a.m. Friday at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. Alfred Camp officiating.

Burial will follow in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Terranova was born icon June 7, 1962, in New Orleans, the son of Anthony Joseph and Ana Dreis Terranova.

He was a graduate of Jesuit High School, attended the Culinary Arts Department of Johnson and Wales College in Charleston, S.C., where he graduated summa cum laude and first in his class, served his apprenticeship at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Atlanta, was chef at Carolina's in Charleston, Owen Brennan's in Memphis, Tenn., was the first American-born chef at Sazerack in the Fairmont Hotel in New Orleans, was chef and co-owner of Liza's, owner of John-Martin's and executive chef and food and beverage director of Dunleith Plantation. He received first place at the PYA Food Show in Charleston, the Hot Food Gold Medal at the ACF competition in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and the Chef of the Year award at Johnson and Wales. His talents were featured in culinary magazines such as Southern Living, Fodor's Travel Guide, Southern Accents, Gourmet and Food and Wine.

Survivors include his wife, Nichole Lefebvre Terrannova; one son, Nicholas Emile Lefebvre of Natchez; his parents; two sisters, Margaret Terranova Roose and her husband Charles, and Patricia Terranova, all of Metairie, La.; one brother, Jake A. Terranova and his wife, Nina, both of Metairie; one uncle, Francisco Dreiss of Santa Ana, El Salvador; his mother- and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Lefrebvre, both of Natchez; one brother-in-law, Heath C. Lefebvre of Natchez; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Heath C. Lefebvre, Jake Terranova, Charlie Roose, John Holyoak, Jimmy Rooker, John Parks, Brad Seyfarth, Joe Fortunato, Mike Worley, Ken Drane, Chris Cole and David Higginbotham.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Bergeron, Fred Callon, Findley Hootsell, Bruce Kuehnle Jr., Kevin Jenkins, Steve Plauche, Michael Cates, Ragan Rigby, Bob Canon, Newt Wilds, Ed Worley, David Jenkins, Denny Walters, Tommy Ferrell and Dan Bland.

Charlie Ware

Sept. 25, 1931 - Dec. 19, 2002

JEFFESON COUNTY - Services for Charlie Ware, 71, of Church Hill, who died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at the V.A. Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jefferson Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Anthony Colenberg officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of R.D. Mackel and Sons.

Visitation is from noon to 5 p.m. with family hour from 5 to 6 p.m. today at today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Mr. Ware was born icon Sept. 25, 1931, in Stampley, the son of Elizabeth Jenkins and Henry Ware Sr.

He was a truck driver, machine operator, a self-employed farmer and a member of the Methodist faith.

Mr. Ware was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charlie Ware Jr.; one grandson, Trennis Ware; and one sister, Cebell Anderson.

Survivors include his wife, Rosie Lee Fitzgerald Ware of Church Hill; six sons, Willie Edward Donald and his wife, Keisha, Willie Ware and his wife, Gwen, James Ware and his wife, Margaret, Paul Ware, Marvin Ware and his wife, Deloris and Sherwood Ware and his wife, Stephanie, all of Natchez; three daughters, Georgia Fulton and her husband, Denel, both of Stampley, Gloria Mae Bindon and her husband, Phillip, both of Natchez and Janet Jones and her husband, Clarence, both of Church Hill; 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howard Ware of St. Louis and James Smith of New Orleans; one sister, Fannie Mae Elkins and her husband, Paul, both of Detroit; one brother-in-law, Leonard Fitzgerald and his wife, Jessie Lee, both of Gulfport; one uncle, Eugene Smith of New Orleans; and friends, JoAnn Stafford and Lorraine Smith, both of Natchez.

Pallbearers will be Leonard Payne, Clarence Jones, Ronnie White, Tippie Proby, Sam Bradford and Monroe Bindon.

Honorary pallbearers will be his sons and brothers-in-law

NATCHEZ - Services for Jack Johnston, 67, of Vidalia, La., who died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Kay Moser officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnston was born icon June 1, 1935, in Lepanto, Ark., the son of James Henry and Ida Priscilla McQuirter Johnston.

He was a farmer, a member of Church of Christ of Lepanto, was retired from Angola State Prison as farm manager, owner of Jack's Barbecue and an active member of Vidalia Horsemen's Club and Natchez Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Johnston; one daughter, Priscilla Mertz and her husband, Gerry, both of Taylor, Texas; one son, Jackie Johnston and his wife, Darla, both of Vidalia; five sisters, Maxine Hyde and Judy Manley, both of Searcy, Ark., Anabelle Moser of Iowa, Charlene Sauder of Franklin, Ark., and Peggy Overby of Lepanto; one brother, Clyde Johnston of Searcy; five grandchildren, Rhonda Partridge and her husband, Todd, Jaclyn Martin and her husband, Cory, and Nicholas Johnston and his wife, Madison, all of Vidalia, Glenn Randal of Pensacola, Fla., and Dennis Randall and his wife, Wendy, both of Thompson Station, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren, Kelsee Partridge and Kimberlee Partridge, both of Vidalia, Brandon Randall of Ridgecrest, La., and Katherine Randall and Kathleen Randall, both of Thompson Station.

Roy Chisholm Nettles

July 15, 1929 - Dec. 24, 2002

NATCHEZ - Services for Roy Chisholm Nettles, 73, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at Magnolia House, will be at 2 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. David Dow officiating.

Burial will follow in Nettles cemetery in Seven Pines Plantation in Woodville under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. until funeral time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Nettles was born icon July 15, 1929, in Natchez, the son of Millard DeLeon and Hattie Mae Roy Nettles.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II in Germany as a medical technician, was employed at International Paper for 18 years, was retired electronics maintenance worker at Natchez Regional Medical Center and a member of Westside Baptist Church.

Mr. Nettles was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elsie Lorraine Nettles Van Vlymen.

Survivors include three brothers, Millard D. Nettles, Cecil D. Nettles and Percy W. Nettles; two sisters, Louise N. Wisner and Sandra G. Nettles; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Van Vlyman, Douglas Dean Nettles, Timothy D. Nettles, John Eric Brown, Jason Wisner and Eugene Barnes.

Burial will be in the Providence cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson.

Freddie Harris, John Charles Harris and Robert Harris, all of Port Gibson, Ernest Harris of Chicago, George Harris of Corinth, Nathaniel Harris of Vicksburg and Eddie Lee Hedrick of Tillman; four sisters, Lula Harris of Port Gibson, Gloria Thomas of Monroe, Lillie Thomas of Vicksburg and Clara Wells of Tillman; one uncle, the Rev. Lucky Dowery of Memphis; four aunts, Gertrude Willis of Indianapolis, Ind., Mary Herenton of Port Gibson, Ollie Mae Louisville of Chicago and Mary Watson of Vicksburg; daughter-in-law, Kayla Jackson of Clarksville, Tenn.; three brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Martha Burns Brown

Feb. 26, 1924 - Dec. 22, 2002

NATCHEZ - Services for Martha Burns Brown, 78, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. Alfred Camp officiating.

Burial will be in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Vidalia.

Mrs. Brown was born icon Feb. 26, 1924, in Natchez.

She was former city clerk for the City of Natchez and was a member of St. Mary Basilica, Pilgrimage Garden Club and the City Clerks Association.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Jack H. Brown; her father, Robert Emmett Burns; her mother, Lena Steir Burns; two brothers, Conner Burns and Robert Burns; and four sisters, Elsie Burns, Kathleen Dickey, Nell Phillips and Anna Robson.

Survivors include two daughters, RoAnn Powlett of Brandon and Jackie Ezell and her husband, Ken, both of Natchez; one son, Barr Brown and his wife, Beth, both of Natchez; two sisters, Louise Aubic and Leona Carter, both of Natchez; one brother, Charles Burns of Natchez; seven grandsons, Chase Brown, Cole Brown, Jack Daylon Brown, Jason Ezell, Preston Parish, Ben Powlett and Steve Powlett; one granddaughter, Eden Ezell; one great-granddaughter, Ella Grace Powlett; and a number of neices and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ben Powlett, Steve Powlett, Jason Ezell, Cole Brown, Chase Brown, Preston Parish and Ken Ezell.
