May 17, 1918 - March 24, 2003

FRANKLIN COUNTY - Services for Ruby Ratcliff, 84, of Natchez, who died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Gilead Baptist Church with the Rev. Luke Addison officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Ratcliff was born icon May 17, 1918, in Franklin County, the daughter of Denon and Ollie Davis Henderson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, J.D. Ratcliff.

Survivors include one son, Jasper D. Ratcliff Jr., and his wife, Sandra, both of LaPlace, La.; one daughter, Annette Nettles of Wake Village, Texas; six grandchildren, Paula Falvey of Natchez, Pam Clark of Atlanta, Penny Markos and Barry Nettles, both of Texarkana, Texas, and Felicia Migliore and Rhett Ratcliff, both of LaPlace; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; thee sisters, Marie Johnson and her husband, Glen, and JoAnn Rutland, all of Jackson, and Mildred Moore of Natchez; two brothers, Marion Henderson and his wife, Georgia, both of Natchez, and James Henderson and his wife, JoAnn, both of Barto, Fla. Pallbearers will be Barry Nettles, Rhett Ratcliff, Troy Buzbee, Jamie Robinson, Jonathan Eaves, Bubba Clark and Daniel Migliore.

Willie Estelle Allen

Feb. 14, 1949 - Dec. 6, 2002

BUDE - Services for Willie Estelle Allen of Meadville, who died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at St. Dominic's-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson, were held at 1 p.m. Dec. 8 at Marshall Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Dunn officiating.

Burial was in Bude under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.

Allen was born icon Feb. 14, 1949, in Franklin County, the daughter of Howard and Frances Etheridge.

She was a member of the Church of God.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by one brother.

Survivors include four daughters, Elizabeth Hawley and Linda Walden, both of Meadville, Angela Roberts of Summit and Carol Holland of Vidalia; one son, Ronnie Allen of McComb; four sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; 13 grandchildren; one brother; and five sisters.

Bennett Michael Jeansonne Jr.

NATCHEZ - Services for Bennett Michael Jeansonne Jr., 15, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, in Louisiana, will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. Alfred Camp officiating.

Burial will be in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. until service time today at the church.

A student and athlete at Cathedral School in Natchez, Mr. Jeansonne was a member of the Student Council, the Key Club, the Catholic Youth Organization and the Peer Ministry Team. He was a member of the cross country team and the soccer team (for which he scored his first varsity goal last Friday night) and was the 2001 district singles champ of the tennis team. He was an altar server at St. Mary Minor Basilica. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was former senior patrol leader of Troop 158. He was was also crew leader for the Philmont Scouting Contingency and was a member of United Methodist Youth Fellowship at Jefferson Street United Methodist Church.

Mr. Jeansonne was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Carl Jeansonne.

Survivors include his parents, Benny and Amanda Jeansonne; one sister, Madeline Jeansonne; her maternal grandparents, A. J. and Edna Ferguson of Natchez; her paternal grandmother, Madeline Jeansonne of Alexandria; his aunt and uncle, Charlotte and George Murrell, and his cousins, Denis, Susanna and Mae Amanda, all of Baton Rouge; his aunt and uncle, Susanne and Kevin Avondet, and his cousins, James, William and Andrew, all of Fort Worth, Texas; his uncle, Jim Ferguson of Baton Rouge, his aunt and uncle, Carl and Jennifer Jeansonne of Baton Rouge; his uncle and aunt, Dr. Robert and Cindy Crotty, and his cousins, Robert, Matt and Adam, all of Alexandria, La.; his uncle and aunt, Steve and Jennifer Jeansonne, and his counsins, Ellis and Steven, all of Alexandria; and his uncle and aunt, Steven and Sherrie Miller, and his cousins, Abbie and David, all of Alexandria.

Pallbearers will be Will Carter, Biase Gaude, Christian Leurinda, Cory Brock, Adam Vegas, Clay Pennington, Thomas Ater and Christopher Boone.

The family requests memorials be made to Cathedral School Development, P.O. Box Q, Natchez, MS 39121.

Josephine DiStefano Duffey

NATCHEZ - Services for Josephine DiStefano Duffey of West Monroe, La., formerly of Natchez, who died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, in West Monroe, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. Mike O'Brien officiating.

Burial will be in Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Duffey was born icon in Natchez, the daughter of Dominic and Josephine Maresca DiStefano.

She was a member of St. Paschal Catholic Church and a resident of West Monroe for the past 60 years. She was a registered nurse, a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing in Monroe and worked as a supervisor at St. Francis Hospital.

Mrs. Duffey was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Louise McLean and Lucia Chatelain.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon M. Duffey; three sisters, Marie King and her husband, Cleo, and Anne Cook and her husband, George, all of West Monroe, and Elizabeth Smith and her husband, Clinton, both of Natchez; one sister-in-law, Freda DiStefano of Natchez; one niece, Debbie Abbott, and her husband, Billy, both of Monroe; and a number of other nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Kenneth Steiner Jr.

Feb. 9, 1935 - March 21, 2003.

NATCHEZ - Services for Kenneth Steiner Jr., 68, of Natchez, who died Friday, March 21, 2003 at his residence, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Dan Wynn officiating.

Visitation is from 9:00 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Steiner was born icon February 9, 1935, in Bradford, Pa., the son of Kenneth Keith Steiner, Sr. and Doris Cobb Steiner. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Mississippi Bar Association.

Survivors include a son, Keith Steiner, and his wife, Camille, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a granddaughter, Mallory Grace Steiner; an aunt, Margaret Mock of Natchez; a cousin, Page Sauls and her husband, John, of Natchez; two uncles, M.C. Cobb of Natchez and Joseph Cobb of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and longtime caregivers Carlotta Washington, Ruthie Fleming and Mary Koster, all of Natchez.

Honorary pallbearers are Lennie Schuchs; Thomas McNeely, Reynolds Atkins, Buster Junkin, Lewis Powell, Dickie Junkin, Emory E. Morgan and Chester Hoover.

Charles P. Morel

NATCHEZ - Services for Charles P. Morel, 82, of Mobile, Ala., who died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in Naples, Fla., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary Basilica.

A reception for friends and family will follow the service in St Theresa's hall, with a private burial to follow.

Mr. Morel was a resident of Natchez and parishioner of St Mary's from 1942 to 1966. He was the owner/operator of the Star Theater and Starlight Drive-In during that period.

Survivors include his former wife Dorothy of Alexandria, La.; son Charles Morel of Naples; grandchildren Paul Morel and Sharon Morel-Lawrence; and great-granddaughter Caitlin Morel-Lawrence.

Memorial tributes in lieu of flowers are requested to St Mary's or a charity of your choosing.

Edith Claughton Rowland

ROXIE - Services for Edith Claughton Rowland, 97, of Meadville, who died Friday, March 21, 2003, at Meadville Nursing Home, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Roxie Baptist Church.

Burial will be at Roxie cemetery under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home.

Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and noon to service time Monday at the church.

Mrs. Rowland was born icon Sept. 25, 1905, in Franklin County, the daughter of John Claughton and Janie Graves Claughton. She was a retired substitute mail carrier and a member of Roxie Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.

Nancy Groover

July 9, 1956 - March 20, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Nancy Groover, 46, of Natchez, who died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Revs. Paul Clark and Eric Bates officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Ms. Groover was born icon July 9, 1956, in Natchez, the daughter of Edgar Sherwood and Isabella Catherine Higgins Groover.

She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Mary Bailey and her husband, Billy Joe, both of Jackson, Betty Blaney and her husband, Gerald, both of Vidalia and Edna Melton and her husband, Robert, both of Natchez; one brother, Luckie Jack Groover and his wife, Sharon, both of Natchez; four nephews and five nieces.

Francis Smith

Funeral arrangements for Francis Smith, 97, of Ferriday, La., who died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, are incomplete at Concordia Funeral Home.

Elouise Crawford

Funeral arrangements for Elouise Crawford, 75, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, are incomplete at George F. West Funeral Home.

Kenneth Steiner Jr.

NATCHEZ - Memorial services for Kenneth Steiner Jr., 68, of Natchez, who died Friday, March 21, 2003, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral.

Edwin Elliot Carol

July 29, 1915 - March 18, 2003

MCCOMB - Services for Edwin Elliot Carol, 87, of McComb, who died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at his residence, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hartman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lonnie Joe Hallburg officiating.

Burial will be in Hollywood cemetery in McComb under the direction of Hartman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Carol was born icon July 29, 1915 in Hazelhurst, the son of L.G. and Louise Elliott Carol.

He spent his early life in New Orleans until he enlisted in the Army and was a veteran of World War II where he served in the European Theater of actions. He moved to Natchez in 1946 where he and his wife owned and operated a floor covering business, moved to McComb in 1976 and opened the seafood restaurant "Round the Bend" which they operated until retirement. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where he was in the Men's Bible Class and the Men's Club.

Mr. Carol was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Margaret Elaine Carol.

Survivors include one sister-in-law, Cleta Burt of McComb; three nieces, Jackie Wilcox of Ponchatoula, La., Dale Klibert and Carol Veazey, both of Metarie; and a number of great nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be J.B. Robinson, Jerry Martin, Dean Boyd, Wayne Vincent, Jimmy Carol Robertson and John Onderdonk.
