Maggie Sue Smith Arnold

NATCHEZ - Services for Maggie Sue Smith Arnold, 65, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Laird Funeral Home's Union Street chapel with the Revs. Paul Hays and Julius Roberts officiating.

Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Arnold was born icon March 31, 1968, in Adams County, the daughter of Tom and Mae Ratcliff Smith. She owned and operated Arnolds Personal Care Home for 26 years. She was a loving wife, mother and friend. She provided care to a number of family members and friends throughout Natchez. Her compassionate spirit touched and influenced many lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Stevie Wayne Arnold.

Survivors include her husband, Roger Wayne Arnold of Natchez; two daughters, Bobbie Guzy and husband Ray of Atlanta and Stacy Moffett of Natchez; two sons, Gene Heidelberg and wife Margie of Jackson and Jay Arnold and wife Scottie of Natchez; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Patsy Wood, Sue King and Diane Graham; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jack Smith, Ora John smith, Tom Smith Jr., Tom Smith III, Robert E. Stutzman and Chandler Russ.

Martha Wilson Foster

Sept. 23, 1906 - Nov. 21, 2003

NATCHEZ - Funeral services for Martha Wilson Foster, 97, who died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 in Natchez, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Dr. Judson W. Hurt officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until services at the funeral home.

Mrs. Foster was born icon September 23, 1906 in Meadville, the daughter of William David and Mary Adell Strittman Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Henry Foster; a son, Claude Leon Foster; and two sisters, Maggie Wilson and Edna Foster.

Survivors include two sons, Charles E. Foster of Mobile, Ala. and Fred A. Foster of Lake St. John, La.; two sisters, Althea Breaux of Natchez and Dell Slaughter of Winnsboro, La.; a brother, Johnnie D. Wilson of Ruston, La.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Foster, Jim Foster, West Foster, Forrest Foster, West Foster Jr., and Lantz Foster.

Marguerite Johnson Jones "Moma Dear"

April 27, 1925 - Nov. 19, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Marguerite Johnson Jones "Moma Dear", 78, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Kelvin Cooper officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church.

Mrs. Jones was born icon April 27, 1925, in Adams County, the daughter of James and Ella Burks Johnson.

She was retired after 30 years of service as a Natchez school bus driver, was retired after 20 years of service with Judge Armstrong Library and was a member of Cliff Temple Baptist Church for 41 years. She was also on the Mothers Board.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her great-great-grandchild, Brandon L. Wesley.

Survivors include her ex-husband, James Frank "Mike" Jones, Sr.; one son, James Frank Jones, Jr.; five daughters, Mildred Hayes and husband, Walter, Marguerite Hunt, Audrey Queen, Leola Fitzgerald and husband, Johnny Lee and Linda Sue Jackson; special grandchildren, Carrol Hayes, Ann Margaret Hayes, Cheryl D. Hunt and Stephanie Hayes; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Caleb Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Bill Ray Johnson, Leonard D. Jackson, Sr., Christopher Hayes and Clarence Jones.

Julian Davis Wedgworth

Aug. 17, 1930 - Nov. 20, 2003

NATCHEZ - Memorial services for Julian Davis Wedgworth, 73, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.

Burial is Sunday, Nov. 23, at Mt. Zion cemetery in Wedgworth, AL. A graveside service will be officiated by the Rev. Scott Livingston, cousin of the deceased.

Mr. Wedgworth graduated from the University of Alabama in 1953, and served in the United State Army as a first lieutenant during the Korean War. He joined Crawford & Company Insurance Adjusters in 1957 where he worked as an insurance adjuster until his retirement in 1996.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanie Wedgworth of Natchez; son, Morgan Davis Wedgworth of Montgomery, AL; daughter, Peggy Jean Wedgworth Forsyth of Birmingham, AL; step-son, David William Monk of Forth Worth, TX; and five grandchildren.

Mavis Oliver Feltus

May 6, 1909 - Nov. 17, 2003

NATCHEZ - Graveside services for Mavis Oliver Feltus, 94, who died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Natchez City cemetery with the Rev. Chip Davis officiating.

Burial is under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Feltus was born icon May 6, 1909, in Franklin County, the daughter of John And Frances Kennedy Oliver.

Mrs. Feltus was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Dewey Oliver, William Prentiss (Presh) Oliver, Richard Oliver, Charles Wesley Oliver and Victor Oliver; two sisters, Mary (Mamie) Oliver and Joyce Oliver Mallory; one nephews, R.D. Oliver; and one niece, Ruth Oliver Stanley.

Mrs. Feltus is survived by one brother, Hugh Oliver of Natchez; four nieces, Frances Oliver Greer of Leesville, LA, Betty Jo Grant of Arkadelphia, AR, Lenoir Oliver Smith of Arkadelphia and June Oliver Parker of Natchez; two nephews, Dr. Victor Oliver Jr. of Arkadelphia and Hugh Wilgus (Gus) Oliver of Natchez; two great-nephews, Richard Hugh Oliver of Hattiesburg and Rick Oliver Stanley of Houston, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request memorials be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, Natchez, Miss.

Aaron Burgman Sr.

Feb. 1, 1948 - Nov. 9, 2003

FAYETTE - Services for Aaron Burgman, Sr., 55, of Fayette, who died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 1 p.m. today at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Ernest Ford, Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Fayette.

Mr. Burgman was born icon Feb. 1, 1948, in Jefferson County, the son of J.B. Burgman and Ninie Powers.

He was a rigger with the Corps of Engineers. His hobbies included fishing, playing with his grandchildren and playing his guitar.

Mr. Burgman was preceded in death by his parents and two children, Melvin Burgman and Jyjuanza Burgman.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Burgman of Fayette; two sons, Aaron Burgman, Jr. and wife, Tilly and Louis Burgman, all of Fayette; two daughters, Ke'Nesha Council and husband, Arthur Ray and Tami Brugman and husband, J.C., allf of Fayette; six brothers, Willie B. Powers, Rogers Powers, Ray Charles Powers, all of Vicksburg, Chris Powers of Seale, AL, Michael Powers of Delta Junction, Alaska and Thomas Owens of New Orleans, LA; eight sisters, Betty Burgman of Baton Rouge, LA, Joann Burgman of Hammond, LA, Corrine Johnson, Dejohnatten Eakins and Damita White, all of Harriston, Nancy Butler and Shelia Jackson, both of Vicksburg and Gladys Washington of Natchez; a special gem in his life, Keishonda Sanders of Fayette; one granddaughter, Kaylann; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Gregory Eakins, Willie B. Powers, Rogers Powers, Ray Charles Powers, Chris Powers and Michael Powers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Burgman, Jr., Louis Burgman, Arthur Ray Council, J.C. Hall, Jr., Thomas Owens, Samuel Washington and Clarence Coleman.

Bobby Bruce Boyd

Oct. 1, 1930 - Nov. 12, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Bobby Bruce Boyd, 73, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. today at Stanton Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Purvis officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. until service time today at the church.

Mr. Boyd was born icon Oct. 1, 1930, the son of Grady and Irma Boyd.

Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Joe Boyd; one infant great-granddaughter, Brooke Boyd.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Pope Boyd; three sons, Gary "Peanut" Boyd and wife, Debbie of Seymour, MO, Mickey Boyd and wife, Mignonne of Mountain View, AR and Wayne Boyd and wife, Marlene of Hattiesburg; three brothers, Thomas, Jerry and Donny Boyd; five sisters, Mary Elevyn Brent, Wyno Brent, Kippy Bibbie, Jackie Palmer and Shelia Deer; one grandson, seven granddaughters and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brad Alexander, Danna Paul Alexander, Dwayne Boyd, Derrick Boyd, Kelby Brent, Blake Boyd, Carson Smith and A.K. Moore.

Honorary pallbearers will be Phil Gordon, Larry Ward and Loreen Nelson.

Elijah Bates

Dec. 2, 1928 - Nov. 13, 2003 NATCHEZ - Services for Elijah Bates, 74, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. today at Southwood Lodge Baptist Church, Upper Kingston Road, with the Rev. James Lee officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. until service time today at the church.

Mr. Bates was born icon Dec. 2, 1928, in Adams County, the son of Joseph and Mary Bates, Sr.

He was a retired self-employed carpenter.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 56 years, Pearlina Bates; six sons, John and wife, Daisy of Free Spring, TX, Robert Lee and wife, Carolyn of Humble, TX, Nathaniel and wife, Rachel of Sieverville, TN, Charles Bates, Darnell Bates and Ronnie Bates, all of Natchez; three daughters, Lee Anna White and Cynthia Bates of Natchez, and Dorothy and husband, Ventress of Woodville; four brothers, David Bates, Joseph Bates Jr. and wife, Josephine, Johnny Bates and wife, Shirley and Freddie Bates and wife, Josie, all of Natchez; two sisters, Exelena Arbuthnot and husband, Charles and Mittie Ford of Natchez; 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Harold Allen Boyette

NATCHEZ - Services for Harold Allen Boyette, 79, Franklington, LA, who died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, in Franklington, was at 2 p.m. Nov. 14 at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Brother Patrick Miller officiated.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Boyette was the son of Henry James Ervin Boyette and Nanny Lee Boyette.

He worked for Johns Manville and retired as captain from the Natchez Police Department. He was a baseball coach for the City of Natchez Recreational League. He was an avid hunter, gardner and baseball fan and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Mamie Bernice Austin Boyette; his son, James H. Boyette and wife, Annie of Lake Charles, LA; daughter; Shirley Ann Myers and husband, Vervon of Franklington; six grandsons, eight great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters; and a number of nieces and nephews; special in-laws, Jack and Maedell McCall of Natchez.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Raymond, Ronnie, Randy Myers, Kevin, David and Ben Boyette.

Michael Misita

NATCHEZ - Funeral services for Michael Misita, 40, of Clayton, La., who died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Basilica with the Revs. Alfred Camp, Gary Howington and David O'Conor officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Vidalia, La.

Visitation will from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Young's Funeral Home.

Mr. Misita was a master welder, craftsman and cattle rancher. He was a member of the Mississippi Cattleman's Association. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School and Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson.

Mr. Misita was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Misita; his paternal grandfather, Vincent Misita; and his maternal grandfather, Russell Grimmelbein.

Survivors include his wife, Connie L. Misita of Clayton; a stepson, Jonathan Walker of Clayton; his mother, Donna Misita of Natchez; two brothers, Scott Misita and wife Barbara of Natchez and Joel Misita of Natchez; his paternal grandmother, Catherine Misita of Metarie, La.; his maternal grandmother, Bernadette Lupo of Naperville, Ill.; five nephews, Blaine Misita, Matt and Andy Evans and Castle and Daryle Walker; and five nieces, Madelyn Misita, Amber Smith, Mary and Ashley Forman and Kennedy Edwards.

Pallbearers will be Scott Misita, Joel Misita, Jeff Grimmelbein, Greg Eckert, Sean Edwards, Kelly Johnson, Buddy Franks and Donald Berry.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

James Alford Berryhill

Aug. 13, 1911 - Nov. 11, 2003

GLOSTER - Services for James Alford Berryhill, 92, of Gloster, who died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Reggie Forman, the Rev. Charles Nash and the Rev. Ron Morgan officiating.

Burial will be in Royal Chapel cemetery in Gloster under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Berryhill was born icon Aug. 13, 1911, in Amite County, the son of Jeff Berryhill and Delia Forman Berryhill.

He was a staff seargent with the U.S. Army and a World War II veteran. After leaving the service, he was employed as the head woodsmen with the Crosby Lumber and MFG. Co. and continued his employment with St. Regis Paper Co. until his retirement. Throughout his life, friends will remember Mr. Billy as the Crosby Little League baseball coach and the Pine Hills Little League All-Star Coach for many, many years,

as well as an avid deer and turkey hunter and a member of the National Rifle Association.

His church, Union Methodist, and his family was always first in his life.

Mr. Berryhill was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Joyce Turner Berryhill of Gloster; sons and daughters-in-law, Darryl and Mary Berryhill of Livingston, LA and Billy Ray and Amy Berryhill of Starkville; daughters and son-in-law, Mary and Jimmy Lessley of Natchez and Kay Monroe of Nashville, TN; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jay Lessley, Joel Lessley, Brian Washington, Derek Berryhill, Bryan Van Uden and Cody Berryhill.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Horizon Hospice, McComb, MS or the charity of your choice.
