NATCHEZ - Services for JoAnna Newborne, 59, of Natchez, who died Monday, May 10, 2004, in Jackson, will be at noon Friday at Zion Hill No. 1 Baptist Church with the Rev. James Washington officiating.
Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
The procession will leave at 11:20 a.m. Friday from 20 Davis Court.
Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Ms. Newborne was born
Feb. 19, 1945, in Helena, Ark., the daughter of Bessie and Jacob Newborne Sr.
She was educated at Sadie V. Thompson High School, was employed with International Paper Company and was a member of Providence Baptist Church and the choir.
Survivors include a daughter, Anita Newborne of Natchez; a son, Rickey (Linda) Newborne of Madison; five sisters, Mary Newborne Thomas of Natchez, Dollie McGinister of Hickory Hill, Ill., Betty Washington of Chicago, Ill., Ernestine (Roosevelt) Sykes of Chicago and Sarah Fields of Oak Grove, La.; four grandchildren, Vas'Shun Newborne of Marianna, Fla., Bre'anna Newborne of Natchez, Ricky Jr. and Rikerric Newborne of Madison; honorary daughter, Alisa Banks of Natchez.
Pallbearers will be James Mitchell, George Minor, Keith Myles, Melvin Harris, Ralph Daniels, Dan William, Kelvin Jones and Roger Allen.
Stewart Geoghegan
Feb. 15, 1917 - May 9, 2004
NATCHEZ - Services for Stewart Geoghegan, 87, of West Monroe, La., formerly of Natchez, who died Sunday, May 9, 2004, at St. Francis Specialty Hospital in Monroe, La., was held at 2 p.m. May 13 at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel where the Rev. Steve Purvis officiated.
Services were under the direction of Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel.
Mr. Geoghegan was born
Feb. 15, 1917, in Fayette, the son of Claude Stewart and Rennie Vaughn Geoghegan Sr.
He was a retired Engineer for the Illinois Central Railroad.
Mr. Geoghegan was preceded in death by his parents; one special daughter, Billie Martin Jones; two brothers, Earl and Archie Geoghegan; two former wives, Anna Mary Geoghegan and Elizabeth Geoghegan.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann Webb and her husband, Fred of West Monroe, La.; son-in-law, John Robert Jones of Baton Rouge, La.; grandson, John David Jones and his wife, Michelle of Addis, La.; two granddaughters, Julie Ann Jones of Baton Rouge and Dawn Eileen Kelm and her husband, Allan of Houston, Texas; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lydia Magee and her husband, Robert of Caseyville and Rennie Geoghegan of Fayette; one brother, Donald Geoghegan and his wife, Mary of Fayette; and several nieces and nephews.
Agnes Ezell West

NATCHEZ - Services for Agnes Ezell West, 79, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at her residence, will be at noon Friday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Howard officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. West was born
Oct. 11, 1924, in Natchez, the daughter of Morell and Fannie Sanders Ezell.
Mrs. West was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest B. West; and a brother, Hubert Ezell.
Survivors include sisters, Ena Jackson and Helen Havard, both of Natchez, Margie Halford of Meadville and Dorothy Powell of Fox, Ark.; brothers, Harold Ezell of Natchez, M. L. Ezell of Meadville, Everett Ezell of Vicksburg, Charles Ezell of Morton, N.Y., Farrell Ezell of Colorado City, Texas and Freddie Ezell of Midland, Texas; 13 nieces and 19 nephews.
Pallbearers will be Charles Sanders, Rusty Jackson, Gary Bass, Greg Bass, Jay Ezell and Clay Aldridge.
Darrius Daunte' Hooker
July 27, 1989 - May 8, 2004
NATCHEZ - Services for Darrius Daunte' Hooker, 14, of Natchez, who died Saturday, May 8, 2004, in Natchez, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Flower Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Alexander officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Hill cemetery under the direction of Webb Funeral System.
The procession will leave at 10:30 a.m. Friday from 324 Broadmoor Dr.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Hooker was born
July 27, 1989, in Natchez, the son of Carla Hooker and Dwain Sherman.
He was an 8th grader at Robert Lewis Middle School where he was on the basketball team. He was a member of Marblestone Baptist Church. He loved to play football and video games.
Mr. Hooker was preceded in death by his grandfather, Sandy Sherman.
Survivors include his mother, Carla Hooker and stepfather, Ronnie Robinson; his father, Dwain Sherman; grandparents, Essie Granger of Natchez, Karl (Betty) Wilson of Vidalia, La., and Cleo Sherman of Dallas, Texas; and a number of uncles, aunts, cousins, basketball teammates and friends.
Pallbearers will be 2003-2004 Robert Lewis Middle School Boys' Basketball Team.
Newlon Lee Meadows
MT. PLEASANT, Tenn. - Memorial services for Newlon Lee Meadows Jr., 77, of Mt. Pleasant, who died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Phillip Wright officiating.
Services are under the direction of Williams Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Meadows was the son of Newlon Lee Sr. and Annie Jane Wade Meadows.
He was a native of Steel, Mo. He was a retired train master for the Illinois Central Railroad and served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. He served as city Commissioner for the City of Mt. Pleasant for several years. He was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post No. 10. He was active for many years in the affairs of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant.
Mr. Meadows was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lu Wagster.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Edwards Meadows of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Christina (Eugene) McCary of Monterey, La. and Jane (Jeff) Brackett of Newton, Ill.; a son, Newlon Lee Meadows III of Chatham, Ill.; a sister, Betty Fuqua of Milan, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Bertha Helen Thorburn Johnston
April 22, 1907 - May 11, 2004
WOODVILLE - Services for Bertha Helen Thorburn Johnston, 97, of Woodville, who died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at her residence following a brief confinement of cancer, will be at 4 p.m. today at Evergreen cemetery in Woodville with the Rev. Warren Whitaker officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Newman Funeral Home of Centreville.
She had been a resident of Woodville since 1917 and was a native of Bristol, Tenn. She was a highly competent bookkeeper who worked for Woodville Motor Company, H & R Ford, McCarty Ford, Marten's Drug and Planters Hardware. Mrs. Johnston graduated from Soule Commercial College in New Orleans, La. and was a Catholic. Following her retirement, she enjoyed sitting on her front porch visiting with neighbors, family and friends.
Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Benjamin and Bertha Fritzinger Thorburn; her husband, Walter Ewing Johnson, whom she married
on Aug. 20, 1930; and a brother, Robert Benjamin Thorburn.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathlene Johnston Hawkins of Rolling Fork; two sons, Gerald Ewing Johnston and Robert Thorburn Johnston of Woodville; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
F. C. Klar

NATCHEZ - Services for F. C. Klar, 78, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Promise Specialty Hospital in Ferriday, La., will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Dr. Judson W. Hurt officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Klar was born
Nov. 19, 1925, in Jefferson County, the son of Jake and Miranda Sumrall Klar.
He was retired from International Paper Company and was a member of the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Klar was preceded in death by his wife, Byrline E. Klar.
Survivors include daughter, Deborah Ratcliff of Natchez; son, Dwight Swain of Natchez; grandchildren, Martin Ratcliff Natchez and Tanya Unger of Albuquerque, N.M.; great-grandson, Jacob Unger of Albuquerque, N.M.; brother, Henry Klar of Houston, Texas and William Klar of Jackson; sisters, Mary Lou Roberts of Panama City, Fla., Edna Garic of New Orleans, La. and Lottie Murray of Natchez.

Mr. Childers was born
April 5, 1963, in Natchez, the son of Aaron W. and Majorie Childers.
He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Shelia D. Childers; two daughters, Lindsey and Courtney Childers, all of Natchez; father, Aaron W. Childers of Meadville; mother and stepfather, Marjorie and David Corban of Pearl; brother, Keith Childers of Richland; two stepsons, David and Chase Buckley; three stepsisters, Penny, Becky and Bambi; one half sister, Nora Childers; grandfather, Ottis Cothren of Smithdale; grandmother, Bessie Corban of Natchez.

NATCHEZ - Graveside services for Elois Campbell Jennings, 68, of Natchez, who died Friday, May 7, 2004, at her residence, were held at 3:30 p.m. May 9 at Natchez City cemetery where Dr. Judson W. Hurt officiated.
Burial followed under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. May 8 and from 2 to 3 p.m. May 9 at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel.
Mrs. Jennings was born
Jan. 6, 1936, in Tree City, La., the daughter of Melvin Lee and Bernice Ashbey Campbell.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and The Natchez Garden Club.
Mrs. Jennings was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William L. Campbell.
Survivors include her husband, Charles A. Jennings Sr., of Natchez; daughter, Crystal J. York and husband, David of Natchez; son, Charles A. Jennings Jr. and wife, Renee of Natchez; sister, Carmen Waller and husband, Lynn of Magnolia, Ark.; sister-in-law, Gere' S. Campbell of Natchez; grandchildren, Bridget Bumgardner, Nicole B. Smith and husband Matt, Ashley Jennings, Megan Jennings and Chase Jennings; great grandchild, Sarah Lynn Smith; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be friends and family members.
