SIBLEY - Services for Frank Earl Jones, 63, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at VA Medical Center in Jackson, were held at 11 a.m. April 12 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Sibley where the Rev. James Brooks officiated.
Burial was in the Natchez National cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Mr. Jones was born
July 24, 1940, in Adams County, the son of James and Nicie Jones.
He was a Sadie V. Thompson High School graduate, was a self-employed contractor and was retired from the U.S. Army and U.S. National Guard. He was a deacon at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and former deacon at Macedonia Baptist Church of Temple, TX.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rosetta Woods.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie A. Jones of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Karen J. (Ronald) Green and Caroline J. (Charles) Washington, all of Natchez; two sons, Gerald E. (Ann) Jones of Fayette and Frederick Kirkland of Temple, TX; two brothers, Willie (joanette) Jones and Albert (Juanita) Jones of Natchez; one sister, Jessie (George) Murphy of Kansas City, MO; three aunts, Hattie (Gabriel) Barnes, Mary L. Williams and Sarah Broadway; one brother-in-law, Moses Woods Sr.; eight grandchildren, Kendra Jones, Katiece & Kayla Harris and Chakeria Screws, all of Natchez, Latrice Conner of Hattiesburg, Lakeisha Washington of Houston, TX, Eddie Washington III of Jackson and Andrea Hernandez of Temple, TX; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were friends of the family.
J. T. McGowan

NATCHEZ - Services for J. T. McGowan, 68, of Natchez, who died Thursday, April 9, 2004, at Trace Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center, will be at 1 p.m. today at Emanuel Church of God in Christ with Elder George Marshall officiating.
Burial will be in the Natchez National cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.
Visitation is from noon until service time today at the church.
Mr. McGowan was born
Aug. 16, 1936, the son of Carrie Bell Johnson and Fedro McGowan.
He was a Baptist.
Mr. McGowan was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lindsey McGowan, L. S. McGowan and R. D. McGowan.
Survivors in his daughters, Clara McGowan and Rosie Mary Williams of Natchez; sons, J. T. Williams of Biloxi and Jamarus Williams; two brothers, Eddie McGowan of New Orleans, LA and Willie D. McGowan of Fayette; two sisters, Ollie Sinkler and Eula Mae Johnson of New York; two sisters-in-law, Lillie Mae McGowan and Thelma McGowan.

Minerva Emma Fletcher Johnson
Oct. 16, 1929 - April 11, 2004
JACKSON - Services for Minerva Emma Fletcher Johnson, 74, of Jackson, who died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at Central MS Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 2 p.m. today at College Hill M. B. Church in Jackson.
Burial will be in Autumn Woods cemetery under the direction of Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home of Jackson.
Mrs. Johnson was born
Oct. 16, 1929, in Natchez, the older of two daughters of the late Edward and Gertrude Jefferson Fletcher.
At an early age, Minerva invited Christ into her life and was baptized and nurtured in the faith at Southwood Lodge Baptist Church and later at College Hill Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until the last weeks of her life. She received her early education in Natchez and graduated from Brumfield High School. She received her higher education from Jackson College, where she earned the bachelor and masters degrees. Minerva Johnson, a retired educator, spent her 29 year career serving the students and community of Richland (Rankin County), Mississippi. Minerva was united in holy matrimony to James Johnson, in Jackson, Mississippi. that union was blessed with two sons. She was a pillar of strength, nurturer for her entire family and a mother who taught strong Christian principles and family values.
Minerva E. Johnson was a warm hearted, Christ-like woman, endeared to those who knew her. Her reserved, quiet charm could be mistaken for shyness, but she was "a strong Black woman." Her strength was generated by her faith in God and her Christian experience.
A community activist, she was involved in the NAACP, the American Association of Retired Persons, Mississippi Retired Teacher Association, Washington Addition Neighborhood Association, Jackson State University Alumni Association and life time member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. And, she is listed in outstanding elementary Teachers of America.
A macro manager, Minerva E. Johnson believed "a penny saved is a penny earned." She enjoyed traveling, growing plants, cooking, especially her delicious Cajun seafood gumbo and serving others.
At College Hill Baptist Church, Sister Johnson as an active generous steward, a gifted peacemaker, serving in Missions, Sunday school, Building Fund Committee, Pastor's Aid Ministry and Music Ministry, exemplifying characteristics of a humble, obedient servant, committed and faithful for over 45 years.
Her sons described her as a "virtuous woman, patient, honest, humble, warm, strong, Holy Spirit led, one who walked the walk and talked the talk." Those who knew her concur. She was an inspiration to all.
Cherishing and honoring members of Minerva Emma Fletcher Johnson are sons, Jay DeVillie (Shirley) and Thomas James (Brenda) Johnson; sisters, Eddie Smith (Jim) Praeter of Natchez and Frankie McFarland of Chicago, IL; nieces and nephews, Sylvester Smith, Jackie Cook and Wanda Finch of Washington, D.C., Eartha Gayden Ball of Midwest City, OK, Wayne Smith of San Antonio, TX and Mary Burns of Chicago; and countless relatives and friends.

Feb. 13, 1928 - April 14, 2004
NATCHEZ - Services for Ann M. Dean, 76, of Weir, who died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Wesberry officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Dean was born
Feb. 13, 1928, in Gloster, the daughter of Henry Clay and Linnie Jackson Williams.
Survivors include one daughter, Veronica Grisham of Clinton; four sons, Bruce Case of Flora, David Case of Madison, Mark Case of Jackson and Charles Case of Memphis, TN; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Vonnelle Whittington of Gloster; one brother, Troy Williams of Gloster.
Pallbearers will be Duane Case, Roy Case, Chris Thompson, Stuart Ainsworth, Buzz Gunter and Barry Gunter.
Honorary pallbearers will be L. H. Wilkinson and Mike Jackson.
Beverly Ann King
Feb. 28, 1959 - April 10, 2004
NATCHEZ - Services for Beverly Ann King, 45, of Biloxi, who died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Biloxi Regional Medical Center, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Hall officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Webb Funeral System.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Gladys Alma Ray
June 10, 1912 - April 14, 2004
ROXIE - Services for Gladys Alma Ray, 91, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Roxie First Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Bethelehem Baptist Church cemetery in Hamburg under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Ray was born
June 10, 1912, in Franklin County, the daughter of William and Nancy Lewis.
She was a teacher, a housewife and a Baptist.
Survivors include one son, Walter Ray of Roxie; seven daughters, Christine Taylor, Billie Jean Ray of Roxie, Lucille Ray, Lonnie Bell Robinson, Velma Broussard, Vergie Kennedy and Josie Pittman of Gulfport; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Edna B. Hennington
VICKSBURG - Services for Edna B. Hennington, 88, of Port Gibson, who died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Central MS Medical Center, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Darby Combs officiating.
Burial will be in Wintergreen cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
She was a native of Chase, LA, living all of her adult life in Port Gibson. She just recently moved to Riggs Manor Retirement Community in Raymond. She was a member of the Friendship Club, XYZ Club, the Obediant Servants Sunday School Class and the Port Gibson Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Joy and husband, John Dale of Woodville and Mary Ann and Robert Parman of Port Gibson; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brad Dale, Randy Dale, Billy Hill, Mike Pate, Jim Pate, Gary Beasley, Steven Parman and Billy Parman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don martin, Jerry Beasley, Dr. Leon Dale, Buddy Parman, Gary Knight and all members of the XYZ Club.

Jim Hockett Sr.
CRANFIELD - Services for Jim Hockett Sr., 81, who died Monday, April 12, 2004, at Adams County Nursing Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Rock Baptist Church in Cranfield.
Burial will follow at Zion cemetery in Roxie under the direction of Tyler Funeral Home of Brookhaven.
He was a retired construction worker.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. until service time today at the church.
Mrs. Sanders was born
Aug. 6, 1918, in Lincoln County, the daughter of Charlie Christian and Maude Amanda Cook Burt.
She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.
Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Ellison Sanders; one son, William Lloyd (Bill) Sanders; a grandson, William Lloyd Sanders Jr.; four brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include sons, James "Jim" Sander and Charlie R. Sanders of Natchez and Donald W. Sanders of Cullman, AL; daughter, Peggy S. Hill of Natchez; brother, Jewel Lee Burt of Natchez; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchilden, 12 step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-gandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Terry Estes, Frank Dungan, Jimmie Brewer, Eddie James, Kenny Gee and Bobby Sanders.
Memorials may be made to Parkway Baptist Church Building Fund or American Heart Association.

GREENSBORO, NC - Services for William Lanius Rutherford, 88, of Greensboro, who died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, will be at 11 a.m. today at Reedy Ford Baptist Church in Greensboro with the Rev. Steve Tucker officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Forbis & Dick Funeral Service of Greensboro.
Mr. Rutherford was born
March 7, 1916, in Natchez, the son of the late L. J. and Kate Cronin Rutherford.
He was retired from Blue Bell Inc. with over 38 years of service. Mr. Rutherford was a faithful member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church whose greatest joy in life was serving his Lord and enjoying his family. He was an avid woodworker, loved to cook and loved to have a garden. Mr. Rutherford was formerly very active in both the Lions Club and Civitans.
Mr. Rutherford was preceded in death by a son, James R. Rutherford in 1995, two sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 56 yeas, Iva Lee Rutherford; son, Thomas E. Rutherford Sr. of Madison; five grandchildren, Patricia Smith and her husband, Thomas, Thomas E. Rutherford Jr., Michael L. Rutherford and his wife, Kay, Sam W. Rutherford and his wife, Brenda and Kelly W. Rutherford and his wife, Karen; 15 great-grandchildren, Tiffany Chambers and her husband, Roger, Timothy Smith, Sarah Smith, Zachary Smith, Joshua Rutherford, Nathan Rutherford, Kimberly Rutherford, Megan Rutherford, Mary Beth Rutherford, Jessica Rutherford, Will Rutherford, Marki Braxton, Ami Braxton, Jami Braxton and Kayli Braxton; and two great-great-grandchildren, Roger Chambers Jr. and Austin Rutherford.
