Virginia R. Kerr

Oct. 19, 1921 - Nov. 29, 2004

MCCOMB - Graveside services for Virginia R. Kerr, 83, of McComb, who died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Trace Haven Nursing Home, will be 11 a.m. today at Hollywood cemetery with Dr. David Millican and the Rev. Ted Bowlin officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Catchings Funeral Home of McComb.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kerr was born icon Oct. 19, 1921, in McComb, the daughter of the late Clyde C. Redmond and Anna Price Redmond.

She was the former owner of Beech Street Grocery. She was a long time member of South McComb Baptist Church. She was a member of the Order of The First Ladies of Mississippi, the Judith Robinson Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy-Brent Rifles, the Daughters of 1812, and the Daughters of the American Colonies.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James C. Kerr; an infant daughter, Julia Lee Kerr; two brothers, Roy Redmond and Ralph Redmond; and two sisters, Juanita McCall and Pauline Williams.

Survivors include a daughter, Molly Kerr Ballard and husband, Douglas, of Natchez; son, Clyde Kerr and wife, Perian, of Starkville; brother, Clyde R. Redmond of Thibodaux, La.; sister, Anna Prescott of Folsom, La.; two grandchildren, Mitch Ballard and wife, Renee, of Natchez and Captain Leah Virginia Ballard Cross and husband, Robert, of Biloxi; two great-grandchildren, Christianna Ballard of Natchez and James Casey Cross of Biloxi; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Pike-Amite-Walthall Library, Genealogy Dept. or a charity or church of your choice.

Jesse Monroe Toney Jr.

GREENSBORO, Ala. - Memorial services for Jesse Monroe Toney Jr., 58, of Akron, Ala., who died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Greene County Hospital, were 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Stewart Methodist Church with the Rev. Grant Parker and the Rev. Griff Toney officiating.

Kirk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Sr. and Geneva Toney of Natchez; and brother-in-law, David Farmer of Vidalia, La.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Harrison Toney of Akron; two daughters, Jennifer Williams of Akron and Allison Toney of Natchez; two sons, Clint Weldon of Akron and Tre Toney of Natchez; a sister, Cheryl Farmer of Vidalia, La.; two brothers, Griff Toney and wife, Phyllis, of Natchez and Floyd Toney of Grand Fork, N.D.; and four grandchildren, Cody and Christopher Toney of Vidalia and Julia and Clayton Williams of Akron.

Mr. Toney was also beloved by extended family and dear friends.

He lived his life true to himself, God, family and friends. He left a lasting impression on every life he touched. He will be greatly missed.

Honorary pallbearers were Robert Palmer, Raymond Mercer, Oscar Seyfarth, Mac Yearter, Charles Bennett, Chad Toney, Glen and Margie Lazarus and Debi Cook.

Cornelia F. Lewis

Oct. 30, 1943 - Dec. 4, 2004

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Funeral services for Cornelia Fitzgerald Lewis, 61, of Huntsville, Ala., will be at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Huntsville at 11 a.m. today with the Reverend Andy Anderson officiating.

Interment will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at Evergreen cemetery in Woodville with the Reverend G. Edward Lundin officiating.

Mrs. Lewis was born icon in Norfolk, Virginia, on October 30, 1943, the daughter of the late Captain and Mrs. Charles Tuckerman Fitzgerald, (USN, Retired). She died on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Huntsville Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, John South Lewis Jr. of Huntsville; two daughters, Anne Lewis Gamble and Ellen Lewis Fortas, both of Memphis, Tenn.; a son, John South Lewis III of Durham, N.C.; one grandson; a sister, Muriel Fitzgerald Wilson of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and a brother, Charles Tuckerman Fitzgerald Jr. of Bellevue, Wash.

Serving as pallbearers at the graveside services will be Andy Lewis, Bob Lewis, John McConnell, Pat Gamble, Miles Fortas and Wettlin Treppendahl.

Laughlin Service Funeral Home and Newman Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be sent to the Senior Horizons Pillow Project, Huntsville Hospital Foundation, 101 Sivley Road, Huntsville, AL 35801, or to the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, Fund For Outreach, 208 Eustis Avenue, Huntsville, AL 35801, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Fay Edwards Crawford

July 31, 1916 - Dec. 5, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Fay Edwards Crawford, 88, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Dr. Judson W. Hurt officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton, with graveside services to be held at 2:30 p.m. at Morton Memorial Garden cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Crawford was born icon July 31, 1916, in Forkville, the daughter of Zachary F. and Maude Myrtle Armstrong Edwards.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Rebekah Sunday School Class. Mrs. Crawford retired from Sears after more than 20 years service.

Mrs. Crawford is preceded in death by her husband, James W. "Billy" Crawford Sr.; her parents, four sisters and one brother.

Survivors include son, James W. "Jim" Crawford Jr. and wife, Betsy of Natchez; granddaughters, Shannon Williams and husband, Murray of Norphlet, Ark. and Leigh Ann Crawford of Natchez; great grandchildren, Kayla and Gabriel; sister, Elsie Woodward of Jonesboro, Ark.

Pallbearers will be Mark Lewis, Jack Gaddis, George Brooks, Matt Alford, Scott Kimbrell and Bill Wells.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 150 D'Evereaux Drive, Natchez, MS 39120.

Larry Johnson

Aug. 4, 1950 - Dec. 1, 2004

WOODVILLE - Services for Larry Johnson, 54, of Woodville, who died Wednesday, December 1, 2004, will be at noon Wednesday at the Pleasant Green Baptist Church with the Rev. Roosevelt Henley officiating.

Burial will be in the Johnson family cemetery in Woodville under the direction of Williams & Williams Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnson was born icon August 4, 1950, in Wilkinson county, the son of the late Fenimore and Olivia Johnson.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Mary G. Johnson of Woodville; three sons, Michael (Samtha) Johnson of Memphis, Tenn., Kelvin (Kendra) Bateaste of Meadville, Eric Bateaste of Woodville; one daughter, Kimberly (Jimmy) Singleton of Woodville; sisters, Gladys Williams of New Orleans, La., Evalena (Louis) White and Ann Belle (Roy) Stewart both of Baton Rouge, La., Lydianna Johnson of Woodville, Gwendolyn (Williams) Farris of Baton Rouge, Oria Lee Houston and Olivia J. (Earl) Belle both of Shreveport, La.; five brothers, Freddie (Mary) Johnson of Marroro, La., Fenimore J. (Katherine) Johnson, Jr. of Austin, Texas, Alphonse H. Johnson and Charles E. Johnson both of Woodville, and Moses Johnson of Madison, Ark.

Mahalo Baker

NATCHEZ - Services for Mahalo "Halo" Baker, 93, of Natchez, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Laird Funeral Home with the Rev. Bart Walker officiating.

Burial will be at Ephesus Baptist Church cemetery in Jefferson County.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time.

Mrs. Baker was born icon Nov. 24, 1911, in Jefferson County, the daughter of P.R. and Carrie Smith. She was a Baptist and a member of the Willingboro N.J. Church where she was a charter member. After graduating from high school she went into nursing training school at the Natchez Sanatorium where she received her R.N. degree in 1933. She worked as an industry nurse for B.F. Goodyear until her retirement. She was a volunteer nurse for the Red Cross for 52 years. She moved back to Natchez in 1998 to be near her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. George William "Bill" Baker, who was in the U.S. Army; her parents; four brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Pearlie Case and husband Rudy Case of Natchez and Mrs. Sue Ogle of Vicksburg; nieces Annie Ruth Taylor, Catherine Case, Lynn Dix, Carrie E. McBeth, Francis Dee Short and Patricia Greco; nephews Gerald Smith, Andre Evans, Ralph Smith, Raymond Gousset, Joe Gousset, Wayne Case and Audley Case; and godchild Audley Nugent.

Memorials may be made to the Ephesus Baptist Church cemetery Fund, c/o Gerald Smith 4272 Dennis Cross Road, Lorman, MS 39097.

Ada Ezell Travis

MEADVILLE - Services for Ada Ezell Travis, 93, who died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at her residence, will be 2 p.m. today at Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Meadville.

Burial will be in New Hope Baptist cemetery.

Curtis "Nap" Fells

Sept. 13, 1962 - Dec. 3, 2004

LORMAN - Services for Curtis "Nap" Fells, 42, of Fayette, who died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Kemp Burley Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home of Fayette.

Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and noon until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Fells was born icon Sept. 13, 1962, in Natchez, the son of the late Charles Fells and Evelyn Fells.

His call to Christianity came at an early age in Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Jefferson County High School in the class of 1981.

He was preceded in death by his father; and brother, Darryl Clark.

Curtis's beautiful smile that endeared him to so many will be cherished by his eight children, Curtis Lamont Nichols, Latoya Sanders, Tatyanna Beverly, Jarvis Kelly, and Asia Fells, all of Fayette, Cenedra Fells and Chelesa Fells, both of Kansas City, Mo., Kelsy Roger of Homer, La.; his loving mother, Evelyn Fells of Fayette; two sisters, Verdean Washington and husband, Irving, of Fayette and Annie Mae Clark of Lorman; three brothers, Prentiss E. Fells of St. Petersburg, Fla., Willie Fells and wife, Gloria, and Charles Fells Jr. and wife, Sylvia, both of Fayette; paternal grandparents, Hattie Walton of Fayette and Ada Fells of Lorman; a special friend, Carolyn Lee of Fayette; special lifelong friends, Ricky Chambers, Kenneth Reed, Keith Tyler; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Prentiss Fells, Michael Bolin, Ricky Banks Jr., Charles Oliver, Broderick Brooks, Keith Chambers, Elroy Thomas, and Glen C. Reed.

Honorary pallbearers will be Prentiss Fells, Willie Fells, Charles Fells Jr., Marshall Banks III, Ricky Chambers, and Kenneth Reed.

Dudley Moore Jr.

FAYETTE - Services for Dudley Moore Jr., 57, of Fayette, who died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be 11a.m. Saturday at Hollywood Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. E. E. Colenberg Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home of Fayette.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Herbert "Hubcap" Moore Sr.

March 7, 1934 - Dec. 4, 2004

BUDE - Services for Herbert "Hubcap" Moore Sr., 70, of Meadville, who died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, in McCall Creek, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Marshall Funeral Home Bude.

Burial will be in the St. Luke cemetery in McCall Creek under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home Bude.

Visitation is from noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Moore was born icon March 7, 1934, in McCall Creek, the son of the late Judge Moore and Sarah Jane Lee Moore.

He was a retired logger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; a sister; and a daughter.

Survivors include his wife, Josie B. Moore; two sons, Herbert Moore Jr. and Brian Newborn, both of Detroit, Mich.; four daughters, Karen Williams and Vivian Byrd, both of Detroit, Mich., Lisa Williams and Sheryl Moore, both of Brookhaven; brother, Leonard Moore of McCall Creek; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
