Mrs. Dorothy Lee Stewart was born icon June 5, 1940 in Union Church, to the late Joseph Stewart and the late Oleavie Stewart. After moving to Vicksburg, she worked at Anderson Tully as a stick operator for seventeen years. At an early age, she attended church at Mt. Moriah under Rev. Mango. With her Baptist faith, she untied with King David #2 M.B. Church under Rev. J. A. Miller and Johnny Lee Williams for twenty six years.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Gloria Stewart, Josephine Stewart, Lula Stewart and five brothers, Kenny Stewart, Carl Stewart, Tim Stewart, Roscoe Stewart, and George Stewart.

Dorothy is survived by a special friend, Charles Robb of Vicksburg, MS; daughters, Elizabeth (Walter) Freeman, Deborah (Larry) Davenport, Linda Love, Rose Wilson, Christine Bingham, Jackie Jones, and Cleo Barnes of Union Church; sons, Walter Stewart, Sammy (Andrea) Stewart, Bobby Ray Stewart, Roscoe (Lawanda) Stewart, all of Vicksburg, Leroy Stewart of Cleveland, MS, Eddie (Kim) Stewart of Kansas City, MO., Ricky Barnes and Wilbert (Youlanda) Barnes of Houston, TX; Two sisters, Mary Marshall of Vicksburg, MS and Carrie Mae (Johnny Lee) Miller of Utica, MS; Three brothers, Phillip Stewart of Vicksburg, MS, Clifton (Rosalind) Stewart and Bill (Jenneffe) Stewart of Saginaw, MI; Sixty-five grandchildren, a host of great grand’s, nieces, nephews, including the Gray, Marshall, and McDaniel families.

Dwayne Everette “Pep” Montgomery was born icon August 23, 1959, in Port Gibson, Mississippi to Claudia Montgomery Wilson and the late Sidney Wilson. Dwayne was the oldest of four children. He confessed and accepted Christ at an early age at Second Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend M. J. Gilbert.

Dwayne received his formal education in the Claiborne County Public School System graduating from Port Gibson High School in 1977. As a student in high school, he was a member of the Port Gibson Blue Wave Football team playing the position of running back. Following graduation, Dwayne entered the United States Army and served his country well. Following his tour of duty, Dwayne returned home and seek employment working until his health caused him to do otherwise.

Dwayne was a mild-mannered person and was loved by all that met him. He was a very quiet person and never showed an angry face. He was an avid fan of sports and loved the New Orleans Saints (Who Dat Nation). He departed his earthly home on Sunday, January 4, 2015, at the VA Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.

Dwayne was preceded in death by: his father, Sidney Wilson; paternal grandparents, Louis and Ruth Montgomery and maternal grandparents, George and Frances Wilson.

Dwayne leaves to cherish many precious memories to: his wife of twenty years, Demetric; three daughters, DeJuan Montgomery of Port Gibson, Mississippi, Catina Anderson of Clinton, Mississippi and Jamia Odoms of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; one son, LaPravean Derby of Port Gibson, Mississippi; three grandchildren, LaQuanveon Derby, Tionna Anderson and Amari Williams; his mother, Claudia Wilson of Port Gibson, Mississippi; sisters, Francie Montgomery and Sharon Mackey of Port Gibson, Mississippi, Tuquilla Brown and Erica Brown, of Gulf Port, Mississippi; a brother, George “Rusty” Wilson of Port Gibson, Mississippi; three aunts, Dorothy Christian, Mary Jennings and JoAnn Reeves, all of Port Gibson, Mississippi; two uncles, Sidney Montgomery of Gulf Port, Mississippi and Walter Wilson of Port Gibson, Mississippi; Father-in-law, Charles Derby and Mother-in-law, Annie B. Mary Grays Moore was born icon March 24, 1956 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to the late Willie “Bilbo” Grays, Jr. and Roberta Richmond Currie. She graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1974 and furthered her studies at Vicksburg Vocational College.

She began her professional career at the Vicksburg-Warren Public Library. In 1981, she became employed with the Social Security Administration Office where she diligently worked for the next 33 years. Mary was known for her beautiful smile, bubbling personality, and her willingness to help anyone who walked through the door. Mary truly touched the lives of many people in Vicksburg and the surrounding areas.

Mary confessed Christ at a very early age and continued to demonstrate her love for him throughout her life. She was a faithful member of New Mt. Zion Church under the direction of Reverend R.L. Miller. She also served as the church secretary until her demise. Mary was also an honorary member of St. Paul Church (Bovina) under the leadership of Pastor Tyrone Dixon.

She was preceded in death by her father, Willie “Bilbo” Grays, Jr.; her great-grandmother, Leana Smith; her grandmother, Mary Hill; an aunt, Ethel Bryant; and a devoted brother-in-law, Robert Earl Hall.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories, two devoted sons, Jermaine D. Grays, Sr. & DeCedric T. Moore (Jana); and her loving daughter, Kimberly R. Moore, all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Jermaine Grays, Jr., Avery Grays, Leana Grays, & Micah D. Moore, all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; her mother and step-father, Willie & Roberta Currie, Vicksburg, Mississippi; two sisters, Flore Roberson Hall & Gloria Harris (Richard), Vicksburg, Mississippi; three brothers, Romano Currie, Santa Cruz, California; Reginald Johnson, Meridian, Mississippi; & Willie Currie, Jr., Lawndale, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other special friends and relatives including Sgt. 1st Class Dwayne Spates, Jackie Dart Lewis, Geraldine Dorsey, Willie James Mosley, & the Blunt, Cox, Taylor, Grays, & Moore families.

Mr. Nolen Selmon was born icon September 14, 1953 in Fayette, Mississippi to the late Mose, Sr. and Luvenia Wilson Selmon. He was baptized at Forest Grove Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Pastor Percy Jackson. Nolen was reared in Harriston, Mississippi. Later Nolen united with Travelers Rest Baptist Church where he was a faithful member.

Nolen was a member of the 1973 graduating class of Liddell High School in Fayette, Mississippi. After graduation, he attended Jackson State University. Later, he joined the U. S. Army in 1974 and was stationed in Fayetteville, North Carolina. After his enlistment he attended Fayetteville Technical College. While in the military, he was stationed at Fort Braggs, North Carolina, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Germany and various other locations during his enlistment.

Nolen was a self-employed carpenter for numerous years and was employed by River City Management Company until his retirement in 2013.

Nolen loved playing football as well as other sports and was very spiritually grounded in church and enjoyed singing gospel music. He was active in the church where he was a Sunday School Teacher and sang with the Men of Purpose; provided security, patrol service and any other duties he was asked to perform.

After returning to Mississippi, Nolen met a lovely lady, Mrs. Ella Lewis, and she became his lovely wife, a virtuous woman. There were united in holy matrimony on January 28, 1996. Nolen will be deeply missed by his loved ones and friends. For he was a man after God’s own heart.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Mose, Sr. and Luvenia Wilson Selmon; a niece, Angela Selmon, a nephew, Shurmario Harried, and uncles Leroy Wilson, and Bob Wilson.

Nolen leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife, Ella Selmon; daughters, Michelle (Joe) White-Harried of Fayette, Mississippi and Yolanda Lewis of Vicksburg; sisters, Katie Lee Harried of Fayette, Mississippi, Theresa Harried of Natchez, Mississippi, Katina (Sam) Hawkins of Ferriday, Louisiana; brothers, Mose Selmon, Jr. and David (Lisa) Selmon all of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Larry (Jeanette) Selmon of Fayette, Mississippi; grandson, Ti’Ras White and one great-grandson, LaJayvien Franklin both of Fayette, Mississippi; Three step-grandchildren, Candice Wilson, Jaylen Wilson, and Kamryn Kelly.

Mrs. Bettie Jean Dillard was born icon on January 12, 1942 in Hollandale, Mississippi to the late Miss Marquerite Bingham.

Bettie began her walk with Christ at an early age. Later in her journey she joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member until her death.

Bettie was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Watkins and one son, Tommie Dillard.

She will forever be cherished and remembered by her five daughters: Mary Bingham, Ruby Bingham, Brenda Bingham (Louis), Dorothy M. McKenzie (Johnny) all of Edwards, Mississippi and Carolyn Dillard of Vicksburg, Mississippi; her two sons, M. C. Dillard (Gwen) of Bovina, Mississippi and Willie J. Bingham (Terry) of Edwards, Mississippi; two sisters, Effie Bingham and Helen Fultz both of Edwards, Mississippi; one brother, Aljosie Moriley of Edwards, Mississippi; thirty-three grandchildren; sixty-two great grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Terry William Slaughter was born icon on August 21, 1928 to the late Dan Slaughter and Mary Lindo Slaughter in Elaine, Arkansas.

He accepted his Lord, Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age on August 5, 1942 and served Him for the rest of his life. He was baptized at Rocks of Ages Baptist Church in Elaine, Arkansas under the leadership of Reverend Cornelius Johnson. In 1948, Terry united with Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend S. S. Slaughter. He re-dedicated his life by way of baptism on August 21, 2005. His love for the Lord and his church was demonstrated by his loyalty, commitment and faithfulness serving the Usher, Deacon and Sunday School Ministries. He enjoyed reading his bible, studying the Sunday School lesson, listening to wonderful and uplifting gospel music, and communicating with love ones, ending each conversation with "I love you."

He was a member of Mt. Nebo Lodge #37 ALAM Scottish Rites, working under King Hiram Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Jackson, Mississippi. Terry was united in holy matrimony to Modell Yancy by Reverend E. D. Johnson on December 9, 1946 in Warren County, Mississippi. They were married icon forty-two years before her passing in 1988.

Terry was presented many awards of appreciation for faithful service at Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church. He was most appreciative when he received the "Key to the City of Vicksburg" by former mayor, Robert M. Walker. He was the recipient of other awards including certificates from Vicksburg Concrete Company, where he was employed from 1949 until the 70's. He retired August 1997 with Mississippi Material Concrete Company.

Terry, a soft spoken man, was a hard worker and held in the highest regard by family and friends. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather not only to his children, but others in the community as well. Terry was a giant of a man in the minds and hearts of many; and all who knew him were influenced by his demeanor.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Modell Yancy Slaughter; parents, Dan and Mary Lindo Slaughter; daughters, Georgia M. Pampley and Jerlene "Muchee" S. Patterson; brothers, Eddie Slaughter, Leon Slaughter and Sherman Clark; sisters, Syverlean Taylor, Jettie B. Adams, Catherine S. Mitchell and Christine Smith and granddaughter, Tamara "Tam" Washington Hull.

His loving memory will sustain and comfort: his sons, Bennie (Catherine) Slaughter and Walter Crum, all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; his beloved daughters, Ollie S. Brown, Jackel Slaughter, Linda Slaughter and Shirley S. (Melvin) Jones, all of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Terrie S. Jones of Athens, Georgia; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; two special sisters-in-law, Lee Ethel Turner of Richmond, California and Margaret Davis Little of Meridian, Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

John Henry Smith was born icon on May 18, 1919 to the late Howard Smith and the late Mattie Turner Smith in Warren County, Mississippi.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. As a self-employed construction worker and carpenter, John worked hard and tirelessly to provide for his family. In addition to being a hard worker, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. John served honorably in the United States Army during World War II.

He was preceded by his parents, Howard Smith and Mattie Turner Smith; sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Mattie Smith, Susie Smith, Mary Lee Smith and Catherine Fletcher.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of seventy-one years, Lucille Smith of Vicksburg, Mississippi; daughter, Edith Taylor of Vicksburg, Mississippi; grandchildren; Jasmine Jones, Michael Jones, Sehjin Taylor, Toji Taylor and Juzo Taylor, Tom (Marilyn) Taylor, Jr., Julie Ann Spires, Larry Dennis Taylor, Harvey Bruce (Elaine) Taylor and Joe Nathan (Ruby) Taylor, Leon and Leo (Hazel) Taylor, Tracey Taylor (George) Freeman and John David (Mie) Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Betty confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Shiloh Church in Redwood, MS. She later became a devoted member of the Evergreen Missionary Bpatist church, Pastor Steven Randle in Redwood, Mississippi.

Betty Ann White was preceded in death by her parents, Carey White, Jr., and Bertha Mae White; a sister, Daisy Mae Wilson.

Betty Ann White leaves to cherish her memories: a son, Timothy Barber, Jr.; six sisters, Georgia (Frank) Hamberlin, Vanessa White, Shelia White, and Bertha White of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, JoAnn White, and Paulette Stamps-Smith of Vicksburg, Mississippi; four brothers, Carey White III of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Willie C. Mrs. Esther Mary Chambers was born icon on April 1, 1934 in Jefferson County to the late Samuel Barker and Elsie Rankin Barker. She departed this life on December 12, 2014 at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius C. Chambers, Sr.; her son, Ronald Chambers; great-granddaughter, Kayla Johnson and seven brothers.

At an early age, Esther joined Nolan Hill A&M Church in Lorman, Mississippi. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a very warm hearted and caring person. She was a woman that knew of the knowledge of Jesus Christ. She was also a member of Heroine of Jericho. Mrs. Esther Mary Chambers will be missed by all who knew her.

Esther leaves cherished memories to her children: her three daughters, Isabell Weddington of Lorman, Mississippi, Mary Chambers of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Rebecca Crystian of Lorman, Mississippi; one step-daughter, Sarah Jones of Kansas, Missouri; two sons, Julius (Eloise) Chambers, Jr. of Cannosburg, Mississippi and Donald Chambers of Vicksburg, Mississippi; four sisters, Carrie B. Long of Indianapolis, Indiana, Emma Anderson and Louivenia Adams both of Fayette, Mississippi; Lucinda Cusic (Eddie) of Leland, Mississippi; one brother, Nathaniel Barker (Mamie Lee) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
