born
I, Doris Ann Smith Odom, was the sixth child born icon to George Earl Smith, Sr. and Ruby Lee McAllister Smith, in Jefferson County, Mississippi, on April 5, 1939.

Confession of my belief and faith
I was baptized and united in Christian fellowship at a tender young age at East Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Red Lick, Mississippi, under the leadership of Reverend E. E. Spencer, where I served faithfully, dedicating my life to the Lord. After my family moved to Vicksburg in 1949, I joined the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Warren County, under the leadership of Reverend W. M. Randle.

Love
At the age of 16, I eloped in May of 1955 from St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church to marry Willie Odom of Port Gibson. My husband and I moved to New Mexico. From our union our precious son, Larry, was born. We relocated to Vicksburg a short time later.

Affiliation
I attended schools in Jefferson County and Warren County. I was a retired certified nurse’s assistant after more than 30 years with Shady Lawn Nursing Home. I was a dutiful member of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church where I sang in the choir, under the dedicated guidance of Bishop Edward Knight.

Demise
The final chapter of my life was recorded on Saturday, August 2, 2014, 10:00 a.m., at my home on Locust Street, in the presence of my wonderful and beautiful family. Although the final day of my earthly life arrived totally unexpectedly, my final chapter was written according to God’s Plan for me. I had no fear because He said that He would never leave me nor forsake me. I have no regrets.

I had waiting for me my Almighty Savior; and with outstretched arms my parents, my grandparents, Emmanuel and Irene McAllister and Henry and Katie Smith; my husband; my grandson, Adrian Bright; my two brothers, Roosevelt Smith and George E. Smith, Jr.; a niece, Shirley A. Larry; a nephew, Arthur L. Mayfield; and a grand nephew, Eric Mayfield.
