Julius "Fess" Johnson was born icon on January 14, 1941 to the proud parents of Ivory Johnson, Sr. and Mary Florence Johnson. He confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Pilgrim M. B. Church, where he remained faithfully as a Deacon until his death.

He was preceded in death by his daughter; Deborah Sims, his parents, two sisters, Ethel Smith and Rosemary Walker, two brothers, Ivory Johnson Jr. and Noah Johnson.

At an early age, he was joined in holy matrimony to Rosie L. Stampley. They remained together for forty-eight years. He departed this earthly life on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at his home on Oak Ridge Road.

Mr. Johnson was a 1962 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School. He attended Utica Jr. College, where he received an Associate Degree in Industrial Arts Education in 1964. He later attended Mississippi Valley State University, where he received his Bachelors' of Arts Degree in Industrial Vocational Education. He also attended Jackson State University, and did additional studies in Education. Mr. Johnson joined his brother, Noah, and they were involved in building and repairing houses in Vicksburg. He also built his home on Oak Ridge Road. Mr. Johnson was an avid hunter and noted fisherman. Julius taught Industrial Arts for Vicksburg Warren Schools and Hinds Community College for thirty-four years. He retired in 2000. His legacy as an educator was instilled in his children, Michelle, Charisse, Dexter and Derrick.

Julius leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Rosie Stampley Johnson, two sons, Derrick Johnson of Ridgeland, MS; and Julian Dexter Johnson of Vicksburg, MS; and two daughters: Charisse (Donny) Brown of Vicksburg, MS and Michelle Bradford of Chicago, IL; grandchildren; Asia and Laila Brown, Marquis Johnson, Julian Harris and J'Kiara Hems; one great grandchild, Aaiden Harris, two sisters, Bessie (Reverend Elzie) O'Neal and Margaret Marshall of Vicksburg, MS; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Dora Coleman, and a special sister-in-law Nancy Johnson of Vicksburg, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including the Norfort, Williams, Daniels, and Doss families.

Alonzo Brandon, the third of ten children born icon to the late Abraham and Martha Duffin Brandon, began his earthly journey on November 22, 1923. "Buddy", as he was known to his family and friends, was a lifelong resident of Port Gibson, MS. He was educated in the Claiborne County Public School System.

At an early age, Alonzo accepted Christ as his personal savior. He was baptized at Beechland Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully for many years as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and church Treasurer. To guide his children in the right direction, Alonzo and his children attended Sunday school every Sunday.

In 1949, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Williams. Alonzo and Marjorie renewed their wedding vows in April 1999, celebrating 50 years of marriage. The couple's six children were members of the wedding party. At the time of his death, the couple had been married icon almost sixty-five years.

An avid deer hunter, Alonzo was a member of the Montgomery Hunting Club, the oldest Black hunting club in the state of Mississippi. He received several trophies which are proudly displayed in his home. He also enjoyed working in his garden and maintaining an immaculate lawn.

Alonzo worked several jobs across the years to provide for his family. His employment history included truck driver for Callendar's Logging Company, Labor Leader and Welder for LeTourneau, Inc. He retired from Cooper Lighting Company (formerly Westinghouse) after 20+ years of service.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Abraham and Martha D. Brandon; son, John E. Brandon of Jackson, MS; daughter, Annie Lee Brandon Tate of St. Louis, MO; sister, Emma Brandon Neyland of Gloster, MS; six brothers, Abraham and James Brandon of Columbus, OH; Richard Brandon of Jackson, MS; Amos, Burris and Henry Brandon of May- wood, IL. His memories will live on through his devoted wife, Marjorie; six children, E. Kennedy Brandon (Carman) of Detroit, MI; Vivian Brandon of Clinton, MS; Carl Brandon of Port Gibson, MS; Maxine Brandon Johnson (Carl) of DeSoto, TX; Dennis Brandon (Glenda) of Vicksburg, MS; Willie Mack Brandon of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, Martha Brandon Wright of Columbus, OH; Cordelia Brandon King of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lucille Richardson Singleton Elmore was born icon July 8, 1916 in Edwards, Mississippi to Alonzo Richardson and Minnie Bryant White.

Lucille was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. James Esther Elmore. She confessed Christ at an early age at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Edwards, Mississippi. She later moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi and joined Zion Travelers Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend F. P. Short. She was a faithful member of Zion Travelers where she sang in the choir for many years until her health failed. She was a loving, caring, well-known person. She was a homemaker and attended Saint Mary Catholic School.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo Richardson and Minnie Bryant White; husband, James Esther Elmore; sons Alonzo Singleton, Fred Singleton and Ulysses Singleton; two brothers, Percy Bryant and King Charles Bryant; maternal grandmother, Lucy Sutton; paternal grandfather, Jonas Sutton; two grandchildren, Karl Slaughter and Lorraine B. Blackmore, nephews, U L Wright and Ishamel M. Singleton; sons-in law, Nathaniel Brown and James Boyd, Sr.; aunt, Bessie Campbell; uncles, Freddy Richardson and Eddie Richardson; niece, Mozella B. Flaggs.

Lucille leaves to cherish her fond memories; her loving daughters, Eula S. Brown, Alma S. Boyd, Mattie Robinson, Daisy Harbin of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Matilda (Lincoln) Haynes of Shreveport, Louisiana; sons, John (Marceline) Singleton of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Elex Singleton of Bovina, Mississippi; daughters-in law, Sandra Barnes of Michigan, Lula Singleton of Flint, Michigan and Darlia Singleton of Flushing, Michigan; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; twenty-five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends including the Richardson, Singleton, Slaughter, Boyd, Flaggs, Bishop, Wright, Willis, Wheatley, Davis, Smith, and Edwards families.

Richard Banks was born icon on October 15, 1948 to the late Evelyn James and William H. Banks.

Richard was baptized at Greater Mt. Lebanon at an early age.

Richard was united in holy matrimony to Brenda Armstrong Banks on June 25, 2005.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Evelyn James and William H. Banks, a daughter, Jacqueline Banks James, a sister Hershey Wilson and a brother Otis Banks.

Richard departed this life on Monday, January 20, 2014 at the River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Richard leaves to cherish his memories: a loving devoted wife, Brenda Banks. of Vicksburg, Mississippi; three daughters, Pamela Banks Gaines (Reginald), Kimberly R. Banks and LaKisha L. Butler; two sons, Richard E. Banks and Richard Ladell Butler; a stepson, Rufus L. Armstrong (Delisha), . of Vicksburg, Mississippi; two brothers, William Banks (Marian) of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Eddie James of Jackson, Mississippi; one uncle, Donald Banks of Los Angeles, California; two special aunts, Zulane Bell and Verda Smith; 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; 2. Austin McKinley Brown (Noke) was born icon on January 25, 1952 to Willie Henry Brown, Sr. and Gloria Brown. Austin accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Springhill M.B. Church. He graduated from Rosa A. Temple High School in 1971. After graduation, he went to Utica College and then enlisted in the Air Force. He later joined the National Guard from which he retired. Austin’s passion for being a civil servant did not end after serving his country, he then went on to work as a deputy for the Warren County Sheriff’s Office before he became the north ward constable, in which he served for several years.

Austin was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Austin & Malissa Green; parents, Willie H. Brown and Gloria Brown and a brother, Richard Brown. He leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter, Augustine Brown; brother, Willie H. Brown, Jr.; sister, Louise Dorsey; a special nephew, Eddie Dorsey, Jr.; aunts, Hazel Green and Thelma Rush; uncle, Clyde Green and special friends, Mable Peterson and Robbie Jean Ware, as well as other relatives including the Green, Prentiss and Rush family.

Mrs. Farris Ruth Hull-Atkins was born icon June 2, 1951, in Attala County, to the late Mr. Turnage and Mrs. Johnnie Ruth Hull. She met and married icon Andrew Atkins and lived in Detroit Michigan for over 20 years. After this marriage was dissolved, Farris moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi.

She attended Murphy High School in Walnut Grove, Mississippi and later received a degree in nursing from Wayne County Community College in Detroit, Michigan. Farris worked for more than 32 as a registered nurse. She spent 15 years nursing in Detroit, Michigan, and ended her career in Mississippi at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She worked tirelessly taking care of patients and their families until her health failed her.

At an early age, Farris accepted Christ and joined the Buffalo United Methodist Church in Koscisuko, Mississippi. She later joined the Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi, under the leadership of Pastor Kemp Burley, Jr. Farris loved her church and her church family and was an active and dedicated member until God called her home.

Farris departed this life January 10, 2014, at River Region Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Turnage "Buddy" Hull and Mrs. Johnnie Ruth Hull and one brother, Mr. James Hull.
She leaves to cherish her memories: a special friend, Mr. Willie Milton of Vicksburg, Mississippi; three children - Marcus (Portia) Hull of Columbia, Mississippi, John (Ella) Andrews of Lena, Mississippi, and Anginette (Gregg) Browder of Springfield, Virginia; two sisters - Ida (James) Griffin and Brownie (Terry) Sparkman both of Walnut Grove, Mississippi; three brothers - Larry (Shelia) Hull of Racine, Wisconsin, Harvey (Sytrecia) Hull of Waynesboro, Mississippi, and Robert Hull of Walnut Grove, Mississippi; ten grandchildren - Jontiese Fortune, Marcus Henry, Cheonchet Andrews, Brandon Browder, Tyshaun Andrews, Tyler Hull, Jante Andrews, Briana Hull, Ashley Browder, and John Andrews, Jr.; special young ladies - Cynthia Milton, Renee Smith, and Kimberly Brown Lane all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; special church friends, Mother Mary Miller and Doris Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and co-workers.

James Louis Porter Sr. was born icon August 27th, 1945 in Vicksburg, MS, to the late Arthur and Mamie Gant Porter.

He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Zion #4. He attended Faith Christian Center where he was a faithful praise team member. He also attended, and was a faithful member and Head Deacon of New Dimension World Church of Vicksburg until his passing.

He was an employee of the City of Vicksburg for 20 years. He was a lover of baseball, fishing, singing, dancing and basketball. He was united in holy matrimony to Lillian Calvin on October 5, 1968.

He transitioned this life to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at his home. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a sister, Sadie Blue; and two brothers, Harvey Louis Porter and Freddie Porter Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Lillian Calvin Porter; five children, Veronica Johnson, James Louis Porter Jr. (LiShawn) of Vicksburg, MS; Franshelia Porter Straughter (Bishop George) of Daytona Beach, FL; Tiffany Porter of Gulfport, MS and Toccara Hemphill of McComb, MS: two sisters, Alma (Arthur) Smith of Maywood, IL, and Helen Johnson of Vicksburg, MS; his grandchildren; Alexis, Jabari (Maria) Anthony, Kevon, Jah’Shawn, JaKayla, Tim’miera, Charles, Shawn, Shamarr, and Percy; great-grandchildren; Zaria, Aniya, and Emily; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Michael Dewayne Welch, son of Shirley Welch and Leroy Clarke, was born icon July 20, 1977, in Grove Hill, Alabama.

Michael accepted Christ and was baptized at New Oak Ridge Church in Edwards, Mississippi under the leadership of Pastor K.C. Frazier. He sang in the youth choir in his early years. He also attended worship services at Campbell Chapel in Port Gibson, Mississippi where he resided for several years.

Michael was educated in Warren County Schools. He attended Vicksburg High School, where he played on the Varsity Football Team and graduated in the class of 1996. He furthered his education at Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi, where he received two degrees in the areas of Welding and Meat Management, along with other honors. Michael was employed at CBI in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Michael was a fun loving person. His smile would brighten up any room. He did not mind giving good advice or encouraging words. He was a diligent hard worker and provider. He loved attending family gatherings, enjoying football games and spending time with his uncles, cousins and friends. No matter what, he never forgot his Alabama upbringings; which included his aunts, sisters, cousins and especially his loving dad-Leroy and his brother-Tyrone.

Michael was a devoted and loving husband forever cherishing the love of his life, Dorothy.

Michael had a special place in his heart for his dear mom, Shirley. He always gave her encouraging words and helped her in any way he could.

On the cold night of January 6, 2002, his son Michael, Jr. was born. He became the “apple of his daddy’s eye”. They spent many days together as Michael, Jr. played football and was also in the band. They traveled, ate, learned, talked and shared many moments together. Their love could not have been more special.

God sent an Angel and said “Peace be Thine” on the morning of January 5, 2014, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Michael was preceded in death by: his maternal grandparents, the late Mr. L.C.”Bolo” and Mrs. Jannie B. Welch; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. I.V. Jackson Clarke; other aunts, uncles, and relatives.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Dorothy C. Welch; two sons, Michael Welch, Jr. and Johnnie Barnes, Jr.; two daughters, LaToya Barnes and Alexis Barnes; his mother, Shirley Welch (Vicksburg, Mississippi); his father, Leroy Clarke (Thomasville, Alabama); one brother, Tyrone Clarke (Thomasville, Alabama), two sisters, Rochelle and Shineka Robinson; uncles; John P. Welch, Sr. (Yvonne), Robert Welch, Shepeard Welch (Christine), Louis “Billy” Brown and Larry Dillard; aunts, Mary Welch, Diane Welch, Annette Foster (Ellis), Mary L. Brown, Rosetta Turner, Virginia McGill, and Ruby Lee Clarke; great uncles, Louis Whitley (Azalee) and John Whitley of Chicago, Illinois; great aunt, Virginia Jones; many, many special cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. He dearly loved them all!
