If I Could Be His Voice .............................

To my family and friends - what must be going through your minds right at this moment. I can only imagine that some of you, your thoughts are traveling back in time to a special day, January 19, 1952. Yes, I was that little country boy born icon to John Curtis and Lillie Mae Robinson in Clinton, Mississippi. My parents and brother, Carza, preceded me in death.

Although I was born icon here, during my early years, my family moved to Harvey, Illinois, where I attended grade school and high school and began working a variety of jobs. One job I loved in particular, was training and grooming race horses at several race tracks throughout the United States. Nothing so challenging as training horses to become winners.

I'm Marvin, but many call me "Sug", Uncle Sug", Cousin Sug and "Grand daddy Sug". I'm sure that by those who know me, I'm called a lot of "other names" too. Uh huh, go ahead and laugh, I knew I would get you with that one. Remember, laughter is good, it makes the heart happy. If a tear begins to drop, it's okay, tears bring about a cleansing, a refreshing, a new direction. However, I would rather you remember how I could make you laugh so hard, your sides would hurt (including mine); or, make you so mad that I knew it was time for me to leave - or you.

Anyway, through the years, I met the love of my life. When I asked Nay to marry me (May 28, 1994), to my surprise, she said yes and my favorite cousins made it happen right here in Clinton, Mississippi. My wife has been my "Angel" and has stuck by me to this end. I leave her to cherish almost 19 years of marriage. I know without a doubt that she will continue to be stedfast in her walk with God and that God's capable and loving hands will take care of her. She led me to Jesus and I was baptized in His Name. Trinia Linette, our daughter, passed away on October 24, 2004, but added to our family two grandsons, Derrick Macklin and Trenell Adams.

You may have already shared your thoughts about me during this time, but let me share with you my many talents. Our family grew up on hard times, so we learned to survive. Learning how to cook was one. I think I did pretty well in this area because some of you would lick those fingers, want more and say, that was good! Did I ever play a trick on you as to what you were eating?

I also loved to fish. I'd grab my fishing poles, bate them and sit by the water waiting to catch that big one. Nobody could beat me except my fishing buddy All and he had no problem bragging about it. I won't mention any names, but someone in particular thought they could beat old "Pops". Oops, did I give that person away? Be quiet Tammy, don't laugh! I think they know who they are.

Give me my lawn equipment and I was your next landscaper - Marvin's Landscaping. And lastly, I loved spending time tilling and growing my own vegetables. I kept Nay busy. I was going to make a country girl out of her one way or another. It's nothing like growing your own food. Anything to do with being outdoors, that was me.

To my daughter Tammy Evans, step-daughter Christy (Jawon) Thomas, my sons Derrick Mack, Marvin (Money) Evans, Tommie Scales and Christopher Miller, choose to make better lives for yourselves and all of my grandchildren. Don't look back on the negatives as to what should have been, but push ahead in the areas where you saw my strength and not my weakness. My pride did not let me tell you enough that I loved you. those three words were so hard for me to say. Nay could read me so easily and she knew that when you have lived a hard life, sometimes the shame of it all can't find its way to the surface to simply say, "please forgive me". The love was always there. Don't let my past failures give you an excuse not to do what is right.

Nay would say, we all stand before God to give an account for how we have lived our lives. Honestly search your lives and make sure you are not just talking the Word of God, but living the Word of God. Don't let it be said, "Too Late".

And finally, I also leave to cherish my memories: my four brothers, Charles (Andria) Robinson, Harvey, Illinois, Johnny Lee (Doris) Manor, John C. (Rebecca) Robinson, Jr., Floyd Robinson; two sisters, Lenora Robinson and Gloria (Willie) Taylor, all residing in Mississippi. My brother Joshua Robinson recently passed away, April 15, 2013.

My love to 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
