Shameka Renee’ Brown was born icon on September 23, 1981 to Eulis, Jr. & Larcene Brown in Jackson, Mississippi. She departed this life on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. She was the “baby” of the family and was without a doubt, a Daddy’s girl.

She received her education at North Jackson Elementary, Powell Middle School, Callaway High School, and Jackson State University, all in Jackson, Mississippi.

Shameka joined Greater Mt. Bethel Church of Christ (Holiness) USA at an early age under the leadership of Elder J. T. Hill. Her membership continued until the day of her death. She participated in the Children and Young Adult Choirs, Sunbeam and Standard Bearers, and Holiness Young People’s Union. About a year ago, she re-dedicated her life to the Lord. A born-again believer is what she became, Praise the Lord! Her favorite song was “I’ll Trust Him Just the Same” by Bishop Charles Price Jones.

Shameka struggled throughout her life with many illnesses, but she was a fighter and she fought a good fight for several years. Shameka loved deeply and she was very vocal in her opinions. She believed in doing the right thing even if it cost her relationships. She was a beautiful and loving daughter, sister, aunt (she loved being called Tee-Tee), granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend. Her nephew, Ethyn, was the joy of her life. He would make her sit and sing while he played drums with two pencils.

Shameka was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, James Paige, Sr., paternal grandparents, Eulis, Sr. and Wilma Brown, and one uncle, Elder Charles Brown.

Shameka leaves to cherish her memory her devoted parents, Elder Eulis, Jr. and Larcene Brown, a loving sister, Shunda L. Brown, Nashville, TN; a loving big brother and sister, Minister Eulis (Talesha) Brown, III and nephew, Eulis “Ethyn” Brown, IV, Springdale, AR; maternal grandmother, Myrea J. Paige, Jackson, MS; a loving aunt, Malisie (Big) Bennett, Jackson, MS; a godbrother, Wesley Pridgen, Jackson, MS, and an adopted brother, Elder Shelvy (Karina) Clayton, Brandon, MS. Immediate uncles and aunts are Henry (Beverly) Wilson, East Chicago, IN; Hazel Thompson, Minola Alexander, Emma (Willie) Adams, Elder Eddie (Florateen) Brown, Sr., James (Mitzi) Paige, Jr., Milton (Gwen) Paige, Barbara Brown of Jackson, MS; Lura Brown, Frisco, TX; Richard (Lillian) Brown, Madison, MS; Carl (Cheryl) Brown, Powder Springs, GA; Darrell (Tanja) Paige, Pearl, MS; a special aunt, Carolyn Price, Jackson, MS; godparents, Victor and Tabitha Johnson, Jackson, MS; and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.

Lovingly called Daddy, Grand-daddy, Grandpa, Paw-Paw, Papa or simply Neil, O’Neill Williams, Sr. was born icon October 6, 1931 in Edwards, Mississippi to the late Eddie Williams, Sr. and Augusta Taylor-Williams. At an early age, Daddy confessed Christ by joining Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Edwards where he served as a deacon for more than a half century. He so loved his church and pastor.

Daddy’s foundation in Christ and love for his family drove him to work “hard” to meet his Earthly responsibilities. It is remembered that he worked as a farmer, a day laborer at Hill City Mills in Vicksburg, Mississippi and a heavy equipment operator for Hinds County, Mississippi. Additionally, he held countless other side occupations to support his family.

Daddy wed the late Dorothy Smith-Williams. This union bore seven children: Betty, Onetta, O’Neill, Jr., Jerry, Christopher (who preceded him in death), Bonita and Derrick. He later adopted his granddaughter, Christal.

In addition to his children, Daddy leaves to reflect and mourn his memories: four brothers, Eddie Williams, Jr. (Margaret) of Lake Providence, Louisiana, Emmett Williams (Rhonda) of Vallejo, California, Howard Williams of Richmond, California and Rufus Williams (Margie) of Edwards, Mississippi; three sisters, Shirley Williams-Felker (Joseph) of Chicago, Illinois, Edna Williams-Smothers (Louis deceased) of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Dorothy Williams-Dameron (preceded him in death). Accompanying brothers and sisters, Daddy leaves fifteen grandchildren; six great grand-children; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. His many grieving family members and friends notwithstanding, Daddy is survived by two special nieces, Bobby Irvin of Edwards, Mississippi, Bobby Peacock of Chicago, Illinois, and stepmother, Nannie Bell Williams of Edwards, Mississippi.

Deacon Williams closed this chapter of his Earthly life on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 11:32 a.m. at his daughter’s home in Jackson, Mississippi.

Mother Ida M. Dixon was born icon September 11, 1924 to Anna Butler and John Burns, both of whom preceded her in death. She departed this life on March 3, 2012.

She became a Christian at an early age and her strong faith sustained her throughout her life. Ida was a faithful member of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church for nearly sixty years. During her early years, she was a member of the choir. Later, she became a mother and served dutifully until her death. Due to her strong Christian faith, she encouraged many to stay strong in the Lord.

Ida was united in matrimony to George F. Dixon for over fifty-one years. She retired from Sisters of Mercy Hospital after many years of service.

Her care and concern for her family began at an early age and continued throughout her life. Ida definitely loved her family and enjoyed visiting her daughter and grandchildren. She found pleasure in traveling and shopping. Ida worked tirelessly in her yard planting an array of flowers admired by all.

She was well known for her radiant smile, impeccable style and warm, motivating personality. Ida’s outgoing personality enabled her to never meet a stranger. As someone stated, “Mrs. Ida brought the best out of everybody”.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Dixon; three brothers, Lonnie Butler, Ollie Buck and Sam Burns; one sister, Mary Ella Smith; one daughter, Lucinda Burns and one grandson, Terence N. Moore.

Ida leaves to cherish her memory a devoted daughter, Helen “Doll” M. Moore of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, Curlie Whiten, Sr. of Vicksburg, Mississippi; one granddaughter, VaTrice Moore of Chicago, Illinois; three great-grandchildren, TaKhari Moore, Tariq Shareef and Terence McCoy all of Chicago, Illinois; a special nephew, Alfred (Carolyn) Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mary Elizabeth (Dot) Smith was born icon on October 5, 1917 in Vicksburg Mississippi (Warren County), to the late James and Estella Smith. She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. On December 17, 1936 she was wed to Leslie Lawrence (Deceased) by the late Rev. J.H. Wheeler, and to this Union 6 children was born, Luster, Joe Wesley, Costella, Tommie Gene (Deceased), Rose Mary (Deceased), and Charles Earl. She later bore a child Willa Marie Anderson by the late Willie Anderson.

Mary graduated from Cosmetology School, and worked many years as a self-employed cosmetologist. She also worked as a Home Care (STNA) with Sister of Mercy Health Services.

After moving From Kings, Mary later joined the Bright Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church where she served in many capacities', she served as a Member of the choir; she worked with the Youth Department of the church for many years taking busloads of youth each year to Mount Bayou Mississippi, for an Annual Knights & Daughters Convention. She loved being the church Announcer which she did until her health begin to fail her. Mary Anderson loved her church. One of her favorite songs was "Order my Steps".

She served as Grand Queen Mother of the Knights and Daughters of Tabor, 11 Friendship Chapter #20 Order of Eastern Star, International order of Twelve.

After her illness May 10, 2010, she resided with her son Charles until she departed this life on March 1, 2012 at River Region Medical Center.

She is preceded in death by her sisters: Sylvia Smith Thomas, Annie Smith Lott, and brothers: James Smith Jr., and Joseph Smith, Mary Anderson leaves to cherish her memory 5 Children; Luster (Arlenia) Lawrence, Joe Wesley (Deloris) Lawrence, Charles E. (Iverne) Lawrence, Willa Marie Anderson all of Vicksburg Mississippi, and Costella Sims (Cleveland, Ohio). Twelve Grandchildren (* Pastor Clifton (Veda) Rawlings - Cleveland, Ohio, and Rev. Sedric (LaTonia) Lawrence - Vicksburg, MS*), Thirty-One Great Grandchildren, and One Great - Great Grandchild. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and cousins including the Thomas and Smith families and friends.

Mrs. Mary Steed Floyd was born icon to the union of Mr. Jim Steed and Mrs. Annie Belle Robinson Steed on December 2, 1923.

She attended the Claiborne County Schools at a time when it was great a “great achievement” to complete the eighth grade which she did.

Mrs. Floyd confessed Christ at an early age and united with the Old Pleasant Hill Baptist Church under the pastorate of the Reverend Major Gilbert. She later united with the Second Union Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend E.E. Spencer. This is where Mrs. Floyd taught and instilled the concepts of Christian love and values to her children and anyone else would listen.

On June 30, 1941 she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Abe Floyd, Sr. God blessed this union with seven children. After the bonding process and raising the children to independence, Mrs. Floyd entered the work force at “entry level” and worked her way to a supervisory position at Holiday Inns of America, Inc. This illustrates the strong character, dedication and determination.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Annie Belle Steed; her husband, Abe Floyd, Sr.; two sisters, Tina Steed and Gladys Washington; one brother, Wilbert Steed; two sons, Abe Floyd, Jr. and Robert Floyd and one daughter, Eva Floyd Morrow.

She is survived by her daughters, Annie Floyd Brown of Jackson, Mississippi, Clara Floyd Myles (Leonard) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Thelma Floyd Roach of Vicksburg, Mississippi; her sister, Bessie Hamilton of Marrero, Louisiana; brother Dannie Steed of Vicksburg, Mississippi; special daughter-in-law, Betty Floyd. She is furthered survived by seventeen grandchildren including Twanda Floyd Gates, Racquel Morrow Loving and Shonda Morrow Gordon whom she nurtured, reared and educated as her own. She has many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rita Rechell Davis was born icon to the late Richard Brown and Fannie Davis on August 28, 1965 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She was a member of the New Birth Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of Bishop Eddie Long.

Rita was a 1983 graduate of Vicksburg High School and received her B.S. N degree from North Park University, School of Nursing in 1996. She worked as a traveling Nurse.

On Wednesday, February 22, 2012 she departed this life at the age of 46 in Mountain View, California. In addition to her father; a brother, Anthony Prentiss, her grandparents, Clara Mae Davis and Calvin Reed, Sr., and Willie and Glory Brown preceded her in death.

Those who will cherish her precious memories are her mother, Fannie Davis Prentiss and step-father, Willie James Coleman both of Carrolton, Mississippi; her sister, Jacqueline Yvette Wilson of Vicksburg, Mississippi; brother, Derwin (LaSharee) Davis of Birmingham, Alabama; aunts, Sadie (Albert) Stewart and Minetra Golloday both of Grenada, Mississippi and Quin (Larry) Elliott of Ocean Springs, Mississippi and Louise Dorsey of Vicksburg, Mississippi; uncles, Leroy Trevillion of Fayette, Mississippi, Calvin Reed, Jr. of Pearl, Mississippi, Willie Brown and Austin Brown both of Vicksburg, Mississippi; one nephew, Dorian Davis of Birmingham, Alabama; and a host of other relatives including the Brown, Reed, Coleman-Davis and Redmond; special friends including Melody Williams of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lillie Moore of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Casey (Domique) Poole of Virginia and Tonia Wilson of Jackson, Mississippi.

Mr. Donald Ray Winfield was born icon June 13, 1960 to the late Clark and Izora Winfield of Natchez, Mississippi.

“A Time to Live”
Donald “Don Ray” was baptized and received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. Donald attended school and graduated from Vicksburg High School, class of 1978. Donald was an employee of Anderson-Tully Company where he retired due to health reasons. Mr. Donald Ray Winfield was a man of great courage and endurance. When life’s obstacles occurred, he preserved understanding that the moments on earth were precious. What a great man was he!

“A Time to Die”
Mr. Winfield departed this life on February 16, 2012 at 3:55 a.m. at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Truly and Sarah Washington; one sister, Ms. Eva Joyce Winfield; brother-in-law, Mr. Willie Lowe, Sr. and a grandson, Jadon K. Miller.

Mr. Winfield leaves to cherish his fond and loving memories: his lifelong friend, companion and wife, Mrs. Diane M. Winfield; three daughters, Dawn Winfield-Dillon (Barry), Shantelle Miller (Stewart) all of Vicksburg, Mississippi and LaShelle Winfield of Olympia, Washington; two sons, Clifton Miller (Yardreika) of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Michael Wayne Richardson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two sisters, Gloria B.E. Elder George Ross was born icon May 11, 1941 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Mr. Willis Ross and Mrs. Alean Jones Ross. His parents preceded him in death along with a daughter, Alice Marie Ross; a son, Larry Whitaker; a brother, Leroy Willis; a sister, Maggie (Walter) Carson and brother-in-law, William Rice.

George first confessed salvation in Christ at an early age at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. He later served as an interim pastor of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Later he joined Vicksburg Family Life Church where he became a respected inspirational ordained elder and served faithfully until God called him home. George had a fervent passion for foreign mission and made many trips to Haiti rendering service to the needy. This included sponsoring a Haitian student in nursing school.

George served faithfully in the U. S. Army where he received an honorable discharge. He was educated in the Vicksburg-Warren Public School System, completed other educational courses while in the U.S. Army, and attended Hinds Jr. College where he received certification in Auto Mechanics. He operated a mechanic shop for several years. George was sole proprietor and owner of George Ross Excavating Services. He was an industrious hard worker who believes in making an earnest living.

He departed this life on February 13, 2012. He leaves to cherish his memories six sons: George (Faye) Ross, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida, Michael Jones Ross of Chicago, Illinois, Jeffrey (Sarah) Ross of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Kenneth (Sonya) Ross of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Omar Ross Floyd of Orlando, Florida and Jomar Ross Floyd of Dallas, Texas; five sisters, Attorney Ceola James of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Dorothy Ross of Ridgeland, Mississippi, Willie Lee Ross of Houston, Texas, Patricia (Charles) Wright of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Colette Rice of Raymond, Mississippi; three brothers, Albert (Arletha) Ross of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Dr. Arthur James Ross of Jackson, Mississippi and Willis (Janet) Ross, III of Atlanta, Georgia; one special life-long, faithful friend, Elder Joseph Burns; eleven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
