Alphonse Fitzgerald Ellis "Baby Ray"
Mr. Alphonse Fitzgerald Ellis (Baby Ray), translated into eternity during the early morning of November 3, 2010. He was born icon November 13, 1918 to the late Mr. Lafayette and Julia Geneva Ellis in Moss Point, MS. He accepted Christ at an early age at First Missionary Baptist Church in Moss Point, MS where he served faithfully until his health failed a few months ago. He served in many capacities at his church. Trustee Ministry, Sunday School Teacher of Adult Class 26 and a member of the Layman Ministry. He was a member of Prince Hall, St. Charles Lodge # 130.
As a young man he was the first to organize a Negro League Baseball Team in this area the “Moss Point Monarchs” in which he was the owner and catcher. He joined the US Army for a brief period of service to his country in 1944. Later he was employed with Ingalls Shipbuilding as a Riggers Supervisor, Dept # 19, and retired in 1981.
He was preceded in death by his wife Fannie Richardson Ellis; daughter, Rachel Juanita Jerdon; four sisters, Bernice Ellis-Sowell, Ernestine Ellis-Fountain, Ruby Ellis Crosby, Yvonne Ellis-Carson; one brother, Harold Ellis.
Mr. Ellis is survived by a stepson, Zeth (Arnita) Richardson of Pascagoula, MS, a stepdaughter, Carol (Howard) Galloway of Phoenix City, AL; one sister-in-law, Helen Ellis, New York, NY; nieces, Ida Lewis, Grand Bay, AL, Muriel Ann Crisp, Lancaster, CA, Ada E. Crosby, Orlando, FL, Frances Crosby, Los Angeles, CA, Judy Ellis-Jones, Atlanta, GA; nephews, William (Ella) Carson, Jr., Miami, FL, Joseph (Jackie) Carson, Mobile, AL, Rufus (Doretha) Carson and Harold Carson both of Tuskegee, AL, Alphonse (Jean) Crosby, Moss Point, MS, Marshall Crosby, Pascagoula, MS, Clinton G. Crosby, Moss Point, MS and Charles (Valerie) Crosby, Mesquite, TX; five grandchildren, a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. A devoted friend, Debra Fagan of Moss Point, MS
Funeral Service will be held 11:00am Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at First Missionary Baptist Church, 4600 Main Street, Moss Point. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, Pastor James O. Harris, Sr. will officiate .
Interment will be in First Baptist cemetery, Escatawpa, MS
All Arrangements will be Millender’s Funeral Home, Moss Point, MS

Parker
Ada Miller Parker, 86, died Friday Feb. 7, 2003 in Leaksville, Ms. Mrs. Parker was born icon July 16, 1916 in Jackson County and had been a resident of this area for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Kreole Ave.Baptist Church in Moss Point. Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Cleora Fannie Miller and her husband Horace P. Parker. Survivors include a son, Robert A. McCellan of Bedford, Texas; one brother and sister in-law, James Henry and Lucille Miller of Griffin, Ga.; a nephew and his spouse; Earl and Aggie White of Lucedale; One niece, Pearl White of Lucedale; three grand-children, David C. McCellan, Randall C. McCellan and William Bronga; and one great grandson, Daven McCellan and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Monday Feb. 10, 2003 at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point from noon until the service begins at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Wilbur Hall is officiating. Burial will follow at Serene Memorial Gardens in Escatawpa. Holder-Wells is in charge of arrangements.

DICKERSON
Mildred A. Howell Dickerson, 86, of Lucedale, Miss., born icon June 1, 1916, in George County, Miss., passed away on February 6, 2003, at Greene Rural Health. She was a homemaker, a farmer and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Joseph "Steve" Dickerson.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Harold (Bobbie Nell) Dickerson, of Lucedale, Gerald A. (Elizabeth) Dickerson of Lucedale; three granddaughters, Karen La June (Donnie) Capps of Lucedale, Deborah Lynn (Paul) Rogers of Ocean Springs, and Katherine Amanda Dickerson of Lucedale; three grandsons, Rodney Alan Dickerson of Dothan, Ala., Thomas Harold Dickerson, Jr. of Lucedale and Kristofer Alan (Aleka) Dickerson of Eureka, Calif.; four great grandsons, Scottie (Renee) Vaughn, Dustin Archie (Alechia) Vaughn, Chase Matthew Vaughn, and Rodney Alan Dickerson, Jr.; five great granddaughters, Stephanie Brooke Dickerson, Courtney Dickerson, Hannah Lee Rogers, Mary Ella Rogers, Nazalin Dickerson; two great great granddaughters, Samantha Bond and Skye Vaughn; two great grandsons, Cloton Bond and Dakota Vaughn.
Funeral service will be Saturday, Feb. 8, at 3 p.m., at Rocky Creek Baptist Church with Q. T. Curtis and Larry Havard officiating.
Interment will be in Rocky Creek cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Alan Dickerson, Donnie Capps, Dustin Bond, Scottie Bond, Kristofer Alan Dickerson and Chase Bond.

HOLMES
Robert Henry Holmes, 60, of Moss Point, Miss., passed away February 6, 2003, in Ocean Springs, Miss. He was born icon September 22, 1942, in Conquest, New York. He was of the Baptist faith and was a truck driver. Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his father, Charles Holmes; his wife, Gladys Holmes; his brothers, Stephen and Lucky Holmes; and a sister, Dorothy Jones.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Lee Davenport of Vancleave; a step daughter and husband, Kathy and Ferril Dixon; his mother, Trudy Butts of Grand Bay, Ala.; his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Barry and Debbie Holmes of Gautier, and Edwin and Margaret Holmes of Pascagoula; his sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Timmy Parrish of Grand Bay, Ala.; and special friend, Carol Pennington of Pascagoula; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 9, from 2 until 4 p.m. at Mr. Holmes residence, located at 5507 Elder Street in Moss Point.

LADD
Edgar (Eddie) J. Ladd, 77, died January 25, 2003, in Ocean Springs, Miss., at the home of his caregiver, sister Mae E. Moore.
He was born icon in New Orleans, Louisiana and at an early age moved to Michigan. At 15 he came to the Gulf Coast where he graduated from Moss Point High School and attended Gulf Coast Junior College.
A lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) of World War II. Having landed at Utah Beach in Normandy four days after D-day as combat infantryman. His military occupational specialty was Military Policeman No. 677. Battles and campaigns were Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland. Wounded in action, he received the first Purple Heart at St. Lo, France in July 1944 and a second Purple Heart in Hurtguen, Germany.
Among his other decorations and citations, Victory Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, three bronze battle stars, three overseas service bars, Good Conduct Medal, and 1st Bronze oak leaf cluster Go5.
After the war, he worked as manager of Hinkel's Stores in New Orleans, starting as stock boy. Later he became a male nurse and worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Biloxi for several years. For 11 years he worked for the state as park manager and grounds keeper at Pascagoula Beach Park where he retired.
Uncle Eddie was sort of a loner and liked his own space, but was very compassionate and helped many people in need. His love for animals kept him busy, taking in many. He was a great artist, without any formal training. He received many blue ribbons for his freehand ceramics, sculpted busts and art canvases.
preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Ladd and Grace (Bang) Ladd, and sister, Eunice Wade.
Left to cherish his memory, devoted sister, Mae E. Moore, and loving niece, Dolly (John) McMahan; other nieces, nephews and friends.
By his request there will be only a private memorial with immediate family. He had willed his body to science.
We wish to express our thanks and gratitude to hospice, nurses and care givers for their love, compassion and devoted service.

HANSON
Lonnie Carlton Hanson, 79, of Escatawpa, Miss., died February 5, 2003, in Mobile, Ala. He was born icon February 3, 1924 in Escatawpa, Miss. He was a member of Escatawpa Baptist Church, a member of the Moss Point Masonic Lodge #202, a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, and a lifelong resident of Escatawpa. He was preceded by: parents, Charles and Carrie Hanson; and brothers, Lee Hanson, Jack Hanson, John Marvin Hanson, Charles Milton Hanson, and Loran Hanson; and sister, Eran Rabby.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hanson, Escatawpa; sons, daughters-in-law, Lonnie and Maureen Hanson, Jr., Pascagoula, John and Beverly Hanson, Vancleave, Miss.; brothers, sisters-in-law, Willie and Ethel Mae Hanson, Escatawpa, Fred and Rosaline Hanson, Escatawpa; granddaughters, Shea Hanson, Rae Hanson, Olivia Hanson all of Vancleave, and Sydney Ann Hanson, Pascagoula; numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Friday, February 7, at Jackson County Funeral Services, in Escatawpa, Miss.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m., on Saturday, February 8, at Escatawpa Baptist Church in Escatawpa, with a one hour visitation prior to service. The Rev. Greg Johnston will officiate.
Burial will be in Serene Memorial Gardens, Escatawpa, Miss.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your local church.

MITCHELL
Herman Cerman "Pimp" Mitchell, Sr., 71, was born icon February 23, 1931, in Louisiana. He departed this life February 4, 2003, in Moss Point, Miss.
He was a resident of Plaquemine Parish (Sunrise) Louisiana for many years, and has resided in Moss Point for the past five years. Mr. Mitchell is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Nicholas and Rosezetta Mitchell; brother, Clem Mitchell; and sister, Hazel Mitchell.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 53 years, Erma Ceola Mitchell; five sons, Herman Mitchell, Jr., Joseph Mitchell, Ernest Mitchell, Robert Mitchell, and Willie Rankins, all of Empire, La.; three daughters, Elnora Mitchell, Empire, La., Debra Mitchell, Moss Point and Erma Mitchell, Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Albert Mitchell, Empire, La.; three brothers-in-law; and five sisters-in-law; 26 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Robinson's Friendly Funeral Home Chapel in Moss Point.
Funeral service will be at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Nairn, La., at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, with the Rev. Allen Johnson officiating.
Interment will be in Tropical Bend cemetery, Empire, La.

BELL
Herbert Jerome Bell, 50, of Gautier, Miss., died peacefully at Singing River Hospital, Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003.
Mr. Bell was born icon June 9, 1952, in Pascagoula, Miss. He was a longtime resident of Jackson County. He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Moss Point, Miss. Mr. Bell joined the Army at an early age.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dan and Charlotte Mae Bell of Moss Point.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Geraldine Thompson Bell of Gautier; one daughter, Tonya Poole of Moss Point; two sons, Jerome (Karen) Gibson of Baton Rouge, La., Danielle Watson of Mobile, Ala.; one stepdaughter, Tonya (Anthony) Scott of Dallas, Texas; three stepsons, Willie Thompson of Houston, Texas, Rayfus (Regina) Thompson of Pascagoula, Miss., Kendrick Thompson of Biloxi, Miss.; six sisters, Rosie Bell Calhoun of Moss Point, Dannie Bell Haynes of Pascagoula, Voncile Bell (Roland) Barnes of Moss Point, Norma Bell of Pascagoula, Olevia Bell and Carolyn Bell of Moss Point; three brothers, Samuel (Emma) Bell and John Earl Bell of Moss Point, Larry (Martha) Bell of Gautier; one foster brother, Charles Jenkins of Pascagoula; one grandson, Paris Turner of Pascagoula; nine stepgrandchildren; two aunts, Olevia Lewis of Moss Point, and Emma Colvin of Oakland, Calif.; two uncles, Bill Colvin of Oakland, Calif. and Grant Lewis of Chicago, Ill.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 7, 10-11 a.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 5425 Grierson Street, Moss Point.
Service will begin promptly at 11 a.m., from the church with the Rev. James Magee, Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in V.A. cemetery, Biloxi, Miss.

DEAN
Exa Marie Flurry Dean, 88, of Lucedale, Miss., born icon January 23, 1915 in Broome Community, George County, Miss., passed away Feb.4, 2003. She was a Methodist and a member of Rosedale Church. She was co-owner of Dean's Nursery and a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Angela Dean, Pascagoula; two granddaughters, Shay (Greg) Havard, Lucedale, and Erin Dean, Lucedale; one great granddaughter, Exa Faith Havard, Lucedale; one daughter-in-law, Beth Dean, Lucedale; three sisters, Olgia McLeod, Lucedale, Lois Strong, Lucedale, and Callie Hegwood, Lucedale; one brother, Ralph Flurry, Lucedale; one sister-in-law, Choycie Wilburn, Lucedale; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Dean and a son, Roscoe Dean; two sisters, Letty Flurry and Alice Williams; two brothers, Nall Flurry and Quinton Flurry.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. from Agricola Baptist Church with Bro. Brean Tagent officiating.
Interment will be in Agricola cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Len Morgan, Ken Marble, John Marble, Les Shoemaker, Joseph Edison and Ed Edison. Honorary pallbearer will be Ray Dean.

RICHARDSON
Roosevelt Richardson Sr., 59, of Moss Point, Miss., died peacefully at Singing River Hospital, Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003. Mr. Richardson was born icon Sept. 16, 1943, in Monroe County, Ala.
He was a resident of Moss Point for over 40 years. He was a member of Meridian Street Baptist Church. He retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding in 1983 after many years.
Survivors include a loving and devoted wife of 21 years, Frances Nettles Richardson of Moss Point, Miss.; a devoted mother, Ms. Ellen Riley of Peterman, Ala.; two daughters, Valeria (Larry) Richardson of Moss Point, Miss., and Sedra Gibson of Atlanta, Ga.; three sons, Ronald (Shania) Richardson of Beaumont, Miss., LaTerry and Roosvelt Jr. both of Moss Point, Miss.; four brothers, Charlie Richardson, James (Annie) Richardson, and Robert (Printella) Richardson, all of Moss Point, Miss., and Willie Lee (Doria) McIntyre of Three Rivers, Miss.; five sisters, Carrie Lee Perkins, Cherrie Mae Tolbert and Mattie Lee Harris, all of Moss Point, Miss., Rosie Lee Leslie of Monroeville, Ala., and Nancy Richardson of New York, N.Y.; one uncle, George Richardson of Monroeville, Ala.; five grandchildren, Fernando, Ashlee, Ronald Jr., Shania and Anndrea; 10 brother-in-laws; two special devoted sisters-in-law, Clara Nettles of Paraimont, Calif., and Maxine Leslie of New York, N.Y.; but in all nine sisters-in-law, too many to name but you all know who you are; four devoted friends Charles (Genetter) Jackson, David (Elmire) Sewell, Robert (Annie) Wilkerson and Leroy Williams, all of Moss Point, Miss; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. As a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and friend, he will be truly missed by us all.
Viewing will be Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Meridian Street Baptist Church, Moss Point, Miss.
Funeral service will begin promptly at 1 p.m. from the church with the Rev. Johniel Henry officiating.
Interment will be held Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at 12:30 p.m. at Amity cemetery, Tunnel Springs, Ala.
