Charles Bird, Jr.
Mr. Charles Bird, Jr. the only child of the late Charles and Bessie Bird was born icon April 22, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY. He is preceded in death by his parents, and wife Doris Vera Hyde-Carter Bird. He departed this life on November 4, 2010.
His memories will remain with his devoted family: daughter, Yolanda Bessie Bird-Bradley; sons, Otis P. Carter, III and Cedric D. Carter; grandsons, Otis P. Carter, IV, Nashville, TN and Terance D. Bradley; special nephews, Donald Keith Hyde, Moss Point, MS and William Perry, Jr., Nashville, TN; cousins, Ms. Janice Rouse, Cambria Heights, NY, special friends, Mr. Henry Beard, Mr. Edward Broughton, Mr. Marion Davis, Cousin Ray Millender and Mr. William Clark and a host of other family and friends.
Memorial Services will be held 7:00pm Thursday, November 11, 2010 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Magnolia Street, Moss Point, MS
Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Friday, November 12, 2010 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with viewing one hour prior to the service, Rev. Robert Pittman and Rev. Elijah Henry will officiate
Interment will be Monday, November 15, 2010 at Biloxi National cemetery, Biloxi, MS

TAYLOR
Levern N. Taylor, 90, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at her residence in Escatawpa, Miss. Mrs. Taylor was known by her friends and family as "Mother of Zion" and always had a pound cake and was also known for the quilts she made. She was born icon May 7, 1912, in Jackson County, Miss., and was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a lifetime member of the Community of Christ Church in Escatawpa.
Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by two husbands, Chester Breland and Charles Taylor; two sons, Frank Breland and Arvis Taylor; and four siblings, Lucille Bryant, Bessie McQueen, Barne Rogers, Mack Rogers; and her parents, Judson and Ollie Rogers.
Survivors include six children and their spouses, Virginia Harrell of Escatawpa, Chester C. (Sonny) and Mazelle Breland of Lucedale, Miss., Barbara Breland, a daughter-in-law in Escatawpa, Harvey and Betty Breland of Terre Haute, Ind., Terry and Joyce Breland of Wade, Miss., Joe and Rhonda Taylor of Grand Bay, Ala., and Charles (Alex) and Audrey (Tatsie) Taylor of Escatawpa; two sisters, Mary Miller and Thelma Byrd, both of Escatawpa; one brother, Joe Rogers of Escatawpa; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, from 6-9 p.m. at Holder Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, Miss.
Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at 10 a.m. from the Community of Christ Church in Escatawpa.
Friends may call one hour before services at the church.
High Priest Donnald Hamm and Elder Thad Boykin will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Community of Christ cemetery in Escatawpa.
The family prefers donations be made to the Community of Christ Church in Escatawpa.
Holder Wells in charge of arrangements.

WILSON
Ronald David "Ronnie" Wilson, 53, of Gautier, Miss., died Sat., Feb. 1, 2003 in Lucedale. He was a native of Hattiesburg, Miss., and spent his entire career in law enforcement. He worked for the Forrest County Sheriff's Office and was assistant Commander of the Metro Narcotic Unit. His career on the Coast began under Sheriff Larkin Smith and later retired from the Jackson County Narcotic and Major Crime Unit under Sheriff D.B. "Pete" Pope. He also served as captain of the Criminal Investigative Division at the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and performed undercover work for numerous agencies in various states.
He was a member of numerous law enforcement organizations and received numerous medals and awards. He served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam and was a special envoy to the South Vietnamese Army. He received awards from both the U.S. and South Vietnam Governments.
He coached Little League baseball and football in Forrest and Jackson counties and played semi-pro football for the Lamar County Lancers. He was a member of Pascagoula Masonic Lodge #419.
He is preceded in death by his parents: T.M. and Mildred Riley Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Sunny Ward Wilson, Gautier; three sons, Travis "Chuck" Ward of Gautier, John David Ward of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ronald David Wilson, Jr. of Hattiesburg; one daughter, Lynda Gaston of Ocean Springs, Miss.; one brother, Robert "Sonny" Wilson; and three grandchildren, Tyler David Wilson, Chad Pittman and Cory Pittman.
Visitation will be Tues., Feb. 4, 2003 from 6-9 p.m. at Riemann Memorial Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Rd., Biloxi.
The funeral service will be 12:15 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 5, 2003 in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will be in Biloxi National cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites.

SIMS
Thomas Auburn Sims, 77, died at home in Ocean Springs, Miss., on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at 11:12 a.m.
Mr. Sims (Lt. Col. USA Ret.) was born icon October 20, 1925, in Little Rock, Miss., to Thomas Alexander Sims and Evie Jane Sims nee Riche. He attended Beulah Hubbard Consolidated High School in Newton County, Miss., where he graduated in 1943.
He entered the United States Navy on Aug. 12, 1943, and went through recruit training at the Navy Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.
After attending Cooks and Bakers School at Navy Pier in Chicago, Ill., and Submarine School at Submarine Base, New London, CN, Mr. Sims then reported for duty aboard the USS Sea Dog. He served on the Sea Dog in the Pacific where a successful war patrol was made.
He was transferred tot he USS Proteus in November 1944 and served on the ship until discharged on May 6, 1946. In August 1945, the USS Proteus was part of Admiral Halsey's fleet which entered Tokyo Bay, Japan to accept the surrender of the Japanese.
On Oct. 6, 1946, he married icon Ruby Pearl Graham, daughter of Charlie Lee Graham and Lillie Pearl Johnson Graham nee Crawford at Decatur, Miss. Three daughters were born, Gloria Jean Sims, Judy Ann Sims, and Janet Lea Sims.
Mr. Sims attended college under the World War II GI Bill. He served in the National Guard (Service Battery, 932 Field Artillery) as Staff Sergeant and Company Mess Sergeant. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve in the Quartermaster Corps on January 6, 1949, Mr. Sims was called to active duty on Feb. 19, 1949.
He commanded the 613 Quartermaster Refrigeration Company in Korea. In Germany he commanded a field office in Hereford in 1955. While serving in Germany he completed work for a B.S. Degree in Military Science at the University of Maryland, European Division. He also served in the Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal, Ala., when the first United States satellite was launched. Under Army orders, he obtained a Master's Degree in Industrial Managements by Babson College Wellesley Hills, Mass.
After a tour in France, where he taught part time with the University of Maryland and a tour in Washington DC, he retired from the Army Jan. 1, 1968, as Lieutenant Colonel.
Mr. Sims began working with Ingalls Shipbuilding, Division of Litton Industries, on Feb. 13, 1968, as assistant to the Director of Procurement. He advanced through Management to become Director of Procurement in 1978.
He was a member of the National Contract Management Association and was inducted a FELLOW in 1993. Mr. Sims retired form Ingalls after 25 years on Feb. 12, 1993.
He was listed in Marquis Who's Who in South and Southwest 22nd Edition (1991-92). Ordained as Deacon in his home Church of Beulah Baptist in Newton Co., Miss., in 1948, Mr. Sims served faithfully as a deacon in several churches where he was stationed in the Army and for several terms at First Baptist, Ocean Springs, Miss., where he was Chairman on several occasions.
He also taught Sunday School in various churches and is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Mr. Sims is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruby Pearl Sims nee Graham; his three daughters, Gloria Jean McCarthy and husband Jim, Judy Ann MacInnis, Janet Lea Phifer and husband Ellis; eight grandchildren, J. J. Cleveland and wife, Brecca of New Orleans, Candy Ann Lehman and husband David of Houston, Texas, Tracie Lynn Cleveland of Ocean Springs, Margaret Jean McCarthy Thomas Sims McCarthy, Edward James McCarthy of Ottawa, Canada, Lauren Michelle Phifer, Aaron Ellis Phifer of Austin, Texas; three great grandchildren, Thomas Weldon Cleveland, Timothy Brooks Cleveland and Mackenzie Ann Lehman; three brothers, George Sims of West Palm Beach, Fla., Alton Sims and wife, Ruth of Jackson, Miss., and Gary Sims and wife, Barbara of Meridian, Miss.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 pm., Tuesday, Feb. 4, at First Baptist Church, Ocean Springs.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Feb. 5, at First Baptist Church, Ocean Springs.
The family requests donations to be made to the Southeast Cancer Research Fund (1-800-223-7874) or to the First Baptist Building Fund, First Baptist Church (602 Washington Avenue, Ocean Springs, Miss., 228-875-4532.)
Burial will be in Biloxi National cemetery, Biloxi, Miss.

SCOVEL
Albert Scovel, 72, of Pascagoula, Miss., died Feb. 1, 2003, in Pascagoula. He was born icon Dec. 14, 1930 in Pascagoula. He was a former guard at the Capitol in Washington D.C. and was a retired Pascagoula fireman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Flossy Mae Scovel; sisters, Gertrude Matthew, Ida Mae Spicer; brothers, John Scovel, Jr., Oliver Scovel, Ralph Scovel, and Benny Scovel.
Survivors include Della Lorraine Scovel, wife, Pascagoula; daughters, sons-in-law, Linda (Eddie) Adair, Riverside, Calif., Cheryl (Philip) Conn, Pascagoula; daughters, Marie Porath, Virginia Beach, Va., and Patricia Scovel, Pascagoula; son, daughter-in-law, Al (Hette) Scovel, Pascagoula; sister, Myrtle Evans, Pascagoula; 12 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Jackson County Funeral Services, in Escatawpa, Miss.
Services will be 10 a.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Harry Scovel and the Rev. Robert Coker officiating.
Burial will be in Machpelah cemetery, Pascagoula, Miss.

ROBINSON
Gary Kenneth Robinson, 50, of Moss Point, Miss., died January 28, 2003, in Moss Point. He was born icon Sept. 13, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was employed as a Automotive Painter with Andy's Body Shop in Pascagoula.
Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Eugene and Virginia Kathryn Robinson.
Survivors include his wife, Freida Joy Robinson of Moss Point; daughters and sons-in-law, Amber and Nick Zezoff of Granite City, Ill., Delania and Bill Alexander of Memphis, Tenn., Olivia and Mike Pritchard of Granite City, Ill.; son, Gary Brazel of Gautier; step son, Michael Shane Hart of Moss Point; brothers and sisters-in-law, M.L. and Linda Robinson of Vancleave, Russell E. and Dorothy Robinson of Madison, Ill.; grandchildren, Kadi Zezoff, Chase Zezoff, Michael Pritchard, James Brazel, Brandon Hart and Alex Hart, mother of daughters, Betty Neely of Granite City, Ill.; nephews, M.L. Robinson, Jr. and Nicholas Lee Robinson; numerous nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 6 until 9 p.m. at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 1 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Hamilton officiating.
Interment will follow at Machpelah cemetery in Pascagoula, Miss.

James Lee Covington
Mr. James Lee (Cowboy) Covington, 66 of Moss Point, MS died Friday, November 5, 2010 in Gautier, MS
Mr. Covington was born icon in Marion Arkansas on March 7, 1944. He served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard for 20 years. He was a member of the American Legions. Mr. Covington was a member of Christian Love Church of The Living God in Moss Point, MS.
Mr. Covington was preceded in death by his parents; mother, Martha Jackson; father, John Southerland and brothers, Percy Jackson, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jeroline Covington; two sons, Leon Booker, Anthony Booker; one daughter, Brenda Booker all of Gautier, MS; sister, Gladys J. Paxton of Chicago, IL; brother, Joe Southerland of Memphis, Tenn; one niece, Tara B. Jenkins (Grey); two great nieces and one great nephew all of Waukegan, IL; nine grand-children four great-grandchildren. Host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Friday, November 12, 2010 at Christian Love Church of the Living God with viewing one hour prior to the service
