The second son of three, Charles learned to cook from his mother, perfecting her famous seafood gumbo and French chicken/oyster gumbo and dressing. These dishes were enjoyed by friends and family for nearly 60 years, but not nearly as much as the fellowship, hospitality and comradary experienced by even an unannounced visit from those who came to enjoy his stories, jokes and views on life. He was overheard many times, "Don't worry, Daddy can fix it," and most of the time he could. Charles Stone loved his work and loved pulling practical jokes. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a smile. He often proclaimed how much he loved his children and exemplified that statement at every turn. He was always there consoling, caring, feeding his family and willing them to go on even through all the tragedies and loss of loved ones.
