Carl Ellis Dixon
Services for Carl Ellis Dixon, of Hazlehurst, are 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Ray Quinnelly will officiate. Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and on Wednesday at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
Mr. Dixon, 70, died April 4, 2010, at his residence
He retired from CN Railroad after 36 years of service. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he was known as "Poppy" to the community and to his beloved grandchildren.
Survivors are his wife of 51 years, Rose Dixon; his sons, Dr. William Dixon and wife Stacy, of Bogue Chitto, and Mike Dixon and wife Carla, of Raymond; his brother, Louie Dixon, of Hazlehurst; his grandchildren, Thea Marie Dixon, Megan Lee Dixon, Claire Elizabeth Dixon, Madison Bailey Dixon, William Sutton Dixon, and Carley Regan Dixon.

Joe Howell
Services for Joe Howell, of Jayess, are 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Powell's Grove Pentecostal Church in Jayess, with burial in the church cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Monday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Howell, 50, died April 3, 2010, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson. He was born icon on Aug. 3, 1959.
He was employed with Entergy Power Company in maintenance. He was a member of Powell's Grove Pentecostal Church.
Preceding him in death were his father, Buford Howell; his brother, Larry Howell; and his daughter, Jo Ann Howell.
Survivors are his wife, Peggy Ard Howell; his daughter, Amanda Price and husband Jason, of Jayess; his mother, Christine Coon, of Jayess; his brothers, Buford Howell Jr., Jerry Howell and James Howell, all of Jayess; and his sisters, Betty King, M.L. Lambert and Ruby Roberts, all of Jayess.

Earnest McClendon
Graveside services for Earnest McClendon, of Monticello, are 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, at Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Monticello. Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Saturday at Rocky Branch Baptist Church in Monticello, from 10 a.m. until the time of the graveside services at the cemetery.
Mr. McClendon, 96, died April 18, 2010, at his residence. He was born icon in Lawrence County on May 2, 1913, to Richmond McClendon and Alice McClendon.
He was retired.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and his wife, Caroline Moses Houston McClendon.
Survivors are his great-nephew, Earnest Martin, of Monticello; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ike Lyons
Services for Ike Lyons, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, at Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Bogue Chitto, with burial in New Hope Church cemetery in Brookhaven. Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Friday from 1 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m.
Mr. Lyons, 88, died April 16, 2010, at his residence. He was born icon in Bogue Chitto on Nov. 18, 1921, to Sandy Lyons and Mary Ella Williams Lyons.
He was retired. He was a member of New Hope M.B. Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Christine Butler Lyons; his son, Gerald Brooks; his brothers, J.C. Lyons, Lee Lyons Sr. and Bill Swaingan; his sisters, Irma Fairman and Ella B. Smith; his stepson, Troy Tucker; and his stepdaughter, Linda Clark.
Survivors are his wife, Elaine Tucker Lyons, of Brookhaven; his son, Micheal Lyons, of Chicago, Ill.; his daughters, Mamie Bonds, of McComb, and Icy Nell Lyons, Lena Lyons and Sandra Lyons, all of Chicago; his stepdaughter, Jennette Richardson, of Pontiac, Mich.; his brothers, Willie Lyons Sr. and Robert Lyons, both of Brookhaven; his 38 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Carroll Purvis Smith
A memorial service for Carroll Purvis Smith, of Houston, Texas, will be held on Saturday, April 24, at 1 p.m., with a preceding visitation at noon at Macedonia Baptist Church in Brookhaven.
A second memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, April 25, at 1 p.m., at Lakelawn cemetery All Saints Mausoleum in New Orleans, La., where he will be interred. Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home in Houston is in charge of arrangements.
Carroll Purvis Smith passed away on Friday, April 16, 2010, at age 63 after a long and courageous battle with heart disease and complications from several strokes suffered since 2000.
Carroll was born icon in July 1946 in Brookhaven, where he and seven siblings grew up. He attended Loyd Star High School and Copiah-Lincoln Junior College. He was a member of the 1963 Loyd Star State Championship Basketball team.
He was a career oil field sales and service provider specializing in rental equipment, tools and testing services. He worked the oil fields in Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.
Carroll was an avid sports fan who loved watching football, basketball and baseball, and spent many afternoons occupying his favorite place known as Carroll's Corner to watch or listen to the broadcast of a game, but was even fonder of attending in person. He favored fishing and golf for his leisure time and had many stories to tell anyone who would listen. He served in the Army National Guard. Carroll will be missed, but not forgotten.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Larry and Charles Smith, both of Brookhaven.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Candis Loreen Smith; a daughter Shanna Lynette Stout and her spouse, Alan Kirk Stout; a son, Chad Carroll Smith, of Houston, Texas; a stepson, Brandon Dale Rush, of New York; and five grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Stout, Evan Ross Stout, Catherine Anne Stout, Madeline Grace Stout and Carli Rose Smith, all of Houston. He is also survived by his siblings John B. Smith, Veta Covington and Bonita Bullock, of Brookhaven, Mike Smith, of College Station, Texas, and Valerie Hill, of Baton Rouge, La.

Charles Gammill
(August 14, 1931 - February 5, 2008)
Funeral services for Mr. Charles Gammill of Winona are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, at Oliver Chapel in Winona, with burial following in Oakwood cemetery in Winona. Rev. Rusty Fair will officiate the services.
Mr. Gammill, 76, died of complications from pneumonia on Tuesday, February 5, at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona.
Mr. Gammill was born icon in Charleston, Mississippi, to the late Charles Wilson Gammill and Mozell Wall Gammill. He was a disabled former employee of the Leflore County Schools Transportation Department.
Mr. Gammill was a member of North Winona Baptist Church in Winona and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Gammill of Winona; a sister, Nellie Jo Spencer of Salinas, California; two brothers, Gerald Gammill and Carey Gammill, both of Clarksdale; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 6, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Benjamin Frank Green
(January 1, 1936 - April 6, 2011)
Mr. Benjamin Frank Green of Poplar Creek died on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, in a house fire at his residence. He was 75 years old.
A committal service will be held at Mr. Green's home on Tuesday, April 19, at 1:00 p.m. All family and friends are invited to attend.
Mr. Green. a retired logger, was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Socrates Green. He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Montez of Okeene, Oklahoma; his son, Frank Green, Jr., of Okeene, Oklahoma; two sisters, Elsie Mae Goolsby of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Sadie Anderson of Cordele, Georgia; one brother,
James Green of Kilmichael; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Maggie Lou Collins Curtis
(November 21, 1913 - March 28, 2008)
Graveside services for Mrs. Maggie Lou Collins Curtis of Winona are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, at Oakwood cemetery in Winona, with burial following. Rev. Ed McDaniel will officiate the service. A visitation will be held at Oliver Funeral Home prior to the service, from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m.
Mrs. Curtis died on Friday, March 28, at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona. She was 94 years old.
Mrs. Curtis was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt Talmadge Collins and the widow of the late Abner Joseph Curtis. She was a homemaker and a member of North Winona Baptist Church in Winona.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Curtis of Boise, Idaho, and Martha Sinquefield of Winona; two sisters, Clara Land of Winona and Frances Autry of Winona; two brothers, Garland Collins of Winona and Eugene Collins of Sturgis; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Paul Sinquefield, Tim Sinquefield, Jason Daves, Allan Pace, Shane Johnson, and Harold Land.

Allie Irene Havard Shell
Services for Allie Irene Havard Shell, of Roxie, are 11 a.m. on Friday, April 23, at Springhill Baptist Church in Knoxville, with burial in the church cemetery. Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Shell, 95, died April 21, 2010, at Natchez Community Hospital. She was born icon in Franklin County on Feb. 17, 1915, to Cade Nathaniel Havard and Allie Irene Ford Havard.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Springhill Baptist Church. Mama Allie was an avid deer and turkey hunter and loved the outdoors. She loved taking care of and spending time with her family. Some of her hobbies were gardening, sewing, watching the Atlanta Braves, riding her golf cart and spending time with her cat, Socks. She enjoyed singing in the choir at Springhill Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Roy Shell Sr.; two brothers, three sisters and her son-in-law, David Griffin.
Survivors are her sons and their wives, Roy and Loretta Shell, of Knoxville, and Wilber and Nancy Shell, of Brookhaven; her daughters, Linda Carraway and husband Mike, of Knoxville, and Elizabeth Griffin, of Knoxville; her nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Appreciation is given to three special people for their loving care, Barbara Alexander, Tonya Halford and Priscilla Jackson.

Lula M. Kenny
Services for Lula M. Kenny of Brookhaven are 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 28, at New Hope M. B. Church with burial in New Hope cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday from noon through the family hour, which is from 6-7 p.m., at Tyler Funeral Home.
Mrs. Kenny, 85, died Oct. 24, 2002, at her residence. She was born icon in Lincoln County on Feb. 21, 1917, to William Dunn and Arzela Porter Dunn.
She was a retired Headstart assistant teacher for Mississippi Action for Progress in Brookhaven. She was a member of New Hope M. B. Church. She was a member of the Christian Community Club and Order of the Eastern Star.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, Osby Kenny.
Survivors are her sons, John E. Kenny, Robert Kenny and Charles Kenny, all of Brookhaven, and James Kenny of McComb; her daughters, Geneva Smith, Flora Kelly, Floretta Williams, and Allarbrade Toinen, all of Brookhaven; her brothers, Versie Dunn of Donnisville, La., and Melvin Dunn of Waterloo, Iowa; her sister, Florine Jones of Chicago; and 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bennie 'Bo Pete' Perkins Jr.
Services for Bennie "Bo Pete" Perkins Jr., of Bogue Chitto, are 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bogue Chitto with burial in the church cemetery. Cook's Enterprise Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The Rev. James Dixon will officiate.
Visitation is Monday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Perkins, 77, died Aug. 7, 2008, at Haven Hall Health Care Center in Brookhaven. He was born icon in Lincoln County on Oct. 7, 1930 to Bennie Perkins Sr. and Cassie Reed-Perkins.
He was retired from Croft Metals and was self-employed. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Letha Ann Perkins, and a sister, Thelma Lee.
Survivors are his sons, Hebert Perkins Sr., Frederick Perkins Sr. and Randy Perkins and wife, Ruth, all of Bogue Chitto; his daughters, Amateen Isaac and husband, William, of McComb, Irma Andrews, of Bogue Chitto, and Gloria Brown and husband, Jesse, of McComb; his two adopted daughters, Nanny Caston, of Nashville, Tenn., and Mary Caston, of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Joyceln Cook, of Brookhaven; his 18 grandchildren; his 38 great-grandchildren; a nephew, Earl Lee, of McComb; a special friend, Helen Pierce, of Brookhaven; and a host of other relatives, church family and dear friends.
