James Marshall Varner, Sr.
(September 15, 1930 - December 22, 2010)
Funeral services for James Marshall Varner, Sr., of Kilmichael will be at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 27, at Oliver Chapel. Burial will follow in the Vaiden cemetery in Vaiden. Rev. Jonas Horn and Rev. Freddie Matthews will offficiate the services.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 26, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mr. Varner died at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson on Wednesday, December 22, in the arms of his wife of 60-1/2 years and surrounded by a room full of loved ones. He was 80 years old.
Mr. Varner was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Louis Varner. He was a retired union ironworker and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Covenant Baptist Church near Kilmichael, the Vaiden Baptist Church Live Wires, and the International Brotherhood of Ironworkers, Local #623 in Baton Rouge, LA. He was active for many years with the youth group at his church, operated the sound equipment for the services, and served as a deacon at his home church in Louisiana. He loved the Lord and was a soul winner. He loved his wife and family, and was known as honey, daddy, pop, granddaddy, and paw paw, but was mostly known as Papa Jim and wore his many hats well.
He never met a stranger, always helping others and making friends with those he came into contact with. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a precious grandson, Rustyn Rhett Varner, one brother, E. L. Varner, Jr.; two sisters, Eloise Henson and Ouida Webber; and two nephews, Gene Henson and Jimmy Henson.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Ann Vinson Varner of Kilmichael; two daughters, Marsha Causey (Jim) of Birmingham, AL, Marla New (Barney) of Eupora; three sons, James Varner, Jr. (Rebecca) of Denham Springs, LA, John Varner (Madeleine) of Baton Rouge, LA, James Micah Varner of Kilmichael; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; four nieces, Beckie Watson, Barbara Allen, Chris Daigle, and Yvonne Cantrell; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jeffery Causey, Marcus Rodriguez, Hector Rodriguez, James Varner III, Micah Varner, and Josh Glasner.

Annie Loucile Dobbins Latham
(December 7, 1921 - August 2, 2011)
Mrs. Annie Lou Latham, 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, at her son's home in Grenada, after a short illness.
Funeral services will be at Scotland Baptist Church in Winona at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, with burial following in the Scotland cemetery. Rev. James Allen, assisted by Rev. Paul Trosper, will officiate the services.
Visitation will be Friday, August 5, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home, and at the church on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
Mrs. Latham was born icon in Montgomery County and lived a wonderful Christian life surrounded by friends and family. She was a member of Scotland Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk for 44 years until 1996. Mrs. Latham began working for the J. A. Olson Company in Winona when it opened its doors in June of 1955 and retired in 1978.
Mrs. Latham was the daughter of the late John Thomas "Jack" and Alma Chandler Dobbins, and the widow of the late James Wesley Latham, Sr.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Lyle Davis Latham and John Thomas Latham; a daughter-in-law, Suzanne O'Bryan Latham; four brothers, John Thomas "Buster" Dobbins, Jr., E. C. "Jimmy" Dobbins, Benjamin F. Dobbins, Barney Lee "Dick" Dobbins; and two sisters, Mavis Dobbins Bodker and Frances Dobbins Knight.
Survivors include one son, James Wesley Latham, Jr., and his wife, Margaret Ratliff Latham, of Grenada; daughter-in-law, Mary Burke Latham of Cherokee, Texas; brother, Billy Gene Dobbins of Hammond, Indiana; sister, Mary Dobbins Weed of Starkville; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Renee' Latham Steckbeck (Andy) of Cherokee, Texas, Lyle Keith Latham of Cleveland, James Wesley Latham III of Winona, Steven Douglas Latham (Kasey) of Southaven, Penney Latham of Grenada, and Christy Latham Cross of Winona; and ten great-grandchildren, Lindsay Anne Hardin, Lainey Ellen Arrington, Lillian Renay Arrington, Graycen Rae Latham, Reagan Elizabeth Steckbeck, Kaylee Grace Steckbeck, Michela Mullen, Emma Mullen, Michael Mullen, and Landon Cross.
Pallbearers will be James Wesley Latham III, Steven Latham, Lyle Keith Latham, Bobby Knight, Bruce Branch, and Allen Weed. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Scotland Baptist Church, active and inactive, past and present.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Scotland Baptist Church, 725 Scotland Road, Winona, MS 38967.

Jane Rose Kleinkauf Tidwell
(January 19, 1926 - February 3, 2008)
Funeral services for Mrs. Jane Rose Kleinkauf Tidwell of Kilmichael will be 11:00 Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at Oliver Chapel in Winona, with burial to follow in Poplar Creek Nations Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2008.
Mrs. Jane Tidwell, aged 82, died Sunday, February 03, 2008, at Tyler Holmes Hospital in Winona. She was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Tidwell was born icon on January 19, 1926, in St. Mary, Pennsylvania, lived in Kearney, Nebraska, where she met and married icon Mr. Jimmie Denzle Tidwell of Kilmichael.
Mrs. Tidwell graduated from Holmes Junior College as a Licensed Practical Nurse and practiced in Kilmichael Hospital. She was employed by Kilmichael Hospital for 28 years. Mrs. Tidwell was preceded in death by her husband, Denzle Tidwell, survived by two sons, Jimmie Tidwell (wife Malinda), Tommy Tidwell (wife Diane), and three daughters, Sue Austin (husband Thomas), Cathy Edwards (husband Lloyd), and Jo Ann Bell (husband Bobby), eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are her grandsons James Austin, Jonathan Tidwell, Mathew Soileau, Brent Brawley, Chad Davis, and Chris Wade. Honorary pallbearers are L. C. Henson, Jarvis Cummings, Pete Malone, and the coffee drinkers at Bobby Love’s Quick Stop.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Poplar Creek Nations Baptist Church cemetery Fund.

Dorothy Greene
(March 30, 1940 - March 22, 2008)
Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Greene of Marks, formerly of Winona, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24, at Oliver Chapel in Winona, with burial following in the Winona Garden of Memory. Rev. Mac Ables, assisted by Rev. Larry Creel, will officiate the services. Visitation is on Sunday, March 23, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mrs. Greene died of complications from cancer on Saturday, March 22, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood. She was 67 years old.
Mrs. Greene was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Beck. She was a bookkeeper and attended the Baptist church. She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy "Bubba" Amason.
Survivors include her husband, Billy G. Greene of Marks; son, Timmy Amason of Winona; stepsons, Bill Greene of Duck Hill and John Greene of Duck HIll; sister, Wanda Stricklen of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; brother, Kenneth Beck of Ruleville; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Bubba Smith, Johnny Blaylock, Ryan Smith, Jeremy Boyette, Taylor Nesbit, and Casey Criddle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the March of Dimes or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Ricky Lee Williams
(August 11, 1955 - May 8, 2008)
Funeral services for Ricky Lee Williams of Grenada, formerly of Winona, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, at Oliver Chapel in Winona, with interment following in Oakwood cemetery in Winona. Rev. Terry Corley and Rev. Jessie Walker will officiate the services. Visitation will be Saturday, May 10, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mr. Williams died of heart failure on Thursday, May 8, at Grenada Lake Medical Center in Grenada. He was 52.
Mr. Williams was the son of the late Roy Lee Williams and the late Zonie Bevis. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Winona.
Survivors include his daughter, Christina Moore of Water Valley; two sisters, Diane Taylor of Duck Hill and Sheila Stewart of Poplar Creek; five brothers, James Williams of Winona, Roger Williams of Union, Ellis Bevis of Winona, Eugene Bevis of Winona, and Glenn Bevis of Winona; and fourteen nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Scott Adams, Chris Jones, Nathan Bevis, Michael Bevis, Bill Greene, and John Greene. Honorary pallbearers are James Ellis Bevis and Ronnie Glenn Bevis.

Martha Jane Stewart
(October 8, 1917 - June 19, 2008)
A memorial service for Mrs. Martha Jane Stewart of Winona will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, at First Presbyterian Church in Winona, with Rev. David Dennis officiating.
Mrs. Stewart died on Thursday, June 19, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood. She was 90 years old.
Mrs. Stewart was the daughter of the late William Frank and Mary Catherine Reilly, and the widow of the late George Walter Stewart. She was a retired clerk for the Hilltop Hotel in Grenada, and a member of Pearl Methodist Church in Pearl. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Catherine "Patty" Bartle and her husband, Rodney, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Georgia Caffey and her husband, Thomas "Cat", of Winona; three sons, Donald Walter Stewart and his wife, Ann, of Guntersville, Alabama, Bill Stewart and his wife, Mary Jane, of Water Valley, Artie Stewart and his wife, Joan, of Water Valley; one sister, Helen Carlson of Menominee, Michigan; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to O'Tuckolofa Baptist Church, 3190 Highway 315 East, Water Valley, MS 38965.

Mavis Evans Green
(January 23, 1927 - September 20, 2008)
Funeral services for Mavis Paulina Evans Green of Batesville, formerly of Winona, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, at Oliver Chapel in Winona, with interment following in Winona Garden of Memory. Mr. Dan Beardain will officiate the services. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 24, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mrs. Green died on Saturday, September 20, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she was visiting family.
She was 81 years old.
Mrs. Green was born icon on January 23, 1927, in Naruna, Virginia, the daughter of Walter Carrington and Carrie Carwile Evans. She graduated from Naruna High School before completing nursing school at Lynchburg General Hospital in 1948. Mrs. Green was a registered nurse for 35 years, 26 of those working with the Montgomery County Health Department in Winona, before retiring in 1983. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and loved reading, shopping, travelling, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church in Naruna, Virginia.
Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Carrie Evans; husband, Edward R. Green; son, Edward R. Green, Jr.; and brother, James Evans. She is survived by her two daughters, Myron (Steve) Proctor of Grenada and Teresa (Darrell) Tucker of Batesville; three grandchildren, Stacy (Julian) Carroll of Tupelo, Rheanne (John) Price of Dacula, Georgia, and Cody Rogers of Cabot, Arkansas; three great-grandchildren, Annaleise Carroll, Aubrey Price, and Colin Price; sister, Rachel Clark of Naruna, Virginia; brothers Scott Evans of Norfolk, Virginia, and Benton Evans of Richmond, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Steve Proctor, Darrell Tucker, Julian Carroll, Cody Rogers, John Price, and Edward Green.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth Street NW, Washington, DC 20006-3517; or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Marshall Howard King
(April 1, 1919 - January 8, 2011)
Funeral services for Marshall Howard King of Hattiesburg, formerly of Winona, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, at Oliver Chapel, with burial following in the Winona Garden of Memory. Rev. John L. Walker and Rev. T. R. Darsey will officiate the services.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, from noon until service time at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mr. King died of heart failure on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg. He was 91 years old.
Mr. King was the son of the late Emmit Burke and Myrtie Bond King. He was a retired meat market manager for Liberty Cash and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member and former deacon of First Baptist Church in Winona and a former member of the Winona VFW and American Legion.
He was a devoted Christian, husband, and father.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Pegram King of Hattiesburg; daughter, Marsha Townsend of Hattiesburg; son, Emmitt King of San Antonio, Texas; brother, Kenneth King of Winona; grandsons, John Spence Townsend of Hattiesburg, Davis Wesley Townsend of Hattiesburg; Alex Marshall King of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Allan Pratt, Nathan Crenshaw, Dave Pratt, Talmadge "Tee" Golding, Bruce Branch, and George Frank Carwile. Mr. King's three grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Rosie Mae Cummings Mims
(November 2, `1926 - October 16, 2014)
Funeral services for Rosie Mae Cummings Mims of Kilmichael will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, at Poplar Creek Nations Baptist Church near Kilmichael. Burial will follow in Friendship cemetery in Kilmichael. Rev. Rocky Watts and Rev. Benny Hill will officiate the services.
Visitation will be Friday, October 17, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona.
Mrs. Mims, 87, died of cancer at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo on Thursday, October 16. She was born icon in Choctaw County on November 2, 1926, to the late James Henry and Fannie Mae Raburn Cumings. She was a retired certified nursing assistant with Winona Manor and a member of Poplar Creek Nations Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mims was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Mims; one sister, Edna Cummings Hodges; and four brothers, James Hester Cummings, George Melvin Cummings, L. C. Cummings, and Shirley Cummings.
Mrs. Mims is survived by two daughters, Barbara Frasure (L. A.) of Randolph, Sue Belk (Van) of Randolph; one brother, Jarvis Cummings of Kilmichael; three grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Paul Cummings, DeLynn Cummings, Billy Cummings, Terry Hodges, John Hodges, Randy Cummings, Charlie Cummings, and Gaylon Williamson. Honorary pallbearers are Justin Garrison and Jordan Watts.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Friendship cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 213, Kilmichael, MS 39747.

Taunya Kaye Keeton
(October 8, 1975 - November 14, 2015)
Taunya Kaye Keeton, 40, of Winona died at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo on Saturday, November 14. She was born icon in Eupora on October 8, 1975, to James and Carolyn Holmes Keeton. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church near Winona.
Taunya is survived by her sons, Robert Davis (Audra) of Winona and J. T. Manney of Winona; her mother and stepfather, Carolyn "Tina" and Ricky Beck of Winona; her sister, Carolee Perry (Jason) of Tylertown; a granddaughter, Valerie Davis; three nieces; and many aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Paul Manney; her father, James Keeton; and her brother, James Walter Keeton Jr.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, November 22, at 2:00 p.m., at Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery, with Rev. David Rogers officiating.
