Died: November 24, 2004

Concord, NC - Mrs. Gracie Black Young, 87, a resident of the Brian Center in Mooresville and formerly of Marietta Drive in Concord, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at the Brian Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis. Dr. Joseph R. Crawford will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Friday at the church. At other times they will be at the home of a daughter, Lou Shankle, 9906 Seymour Lane, Davidson, NC.
Born August 20, 1917, in Rockingham, NC, she was a daughter of the late Jim Black and Mary Jane McInnis Black. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis and retired several years ago from the Washcloth Department of Cannon Mills, Plant One.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Adam Young; seven sisters, Esther Plott, Mary Patterson, Gertrude Elliott, Myrtle Widenhouse, Elsie Carter, Deanie Bowman and Lizzie Reynolds; and a brother, Curtis Black.
Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Young of Kannapolis, Lou Shankle and her husband, Burt, of Davidson; and a son, Frank Overby of Davidson.
Memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 201 Vance Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

James Woodrow Meeks

Born: October 4, 1948
Died: December 5, 2004

China Grove, NC - Mr. James Woodrow "Jimmy" Meeks, 56, of 5809 Goldfish Road, China Grove, died Sunday, December 5, 2004, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Steve Beam will officiate. Interment will follow at the VA National Cemetery in Salisbury with military rites conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Council.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born October 4, 1948 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of Kiter Murphy Meeks and the late Woodrow Wilson Meeks. He was a self-employed painter and served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.
Survivors include his mother, Kiter Murphy Meeks of the home; a son, Shane William Meeks of the home; a sister, Martha Palmer and her husband, Larry, of Kannapolis; two grandchildren, Jessica Meeks of the home and Melissa Inez Sampson of Concord; a niece, Karla Harvey of Kannapolis; and a nephew, Kris Palmer of Lincolnton.

Ethel Gallimore Childress

Born: August 12, 1911
Died: November 30, 2004

Kannapolis, NC - Mrs. Ethel Parker Gallimore Childress, 93, of 1103 Jackson Street, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 3, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Chuck Halipilias will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of her step-son, Tommy Childress, 617 Peacehaven Road, Kannapolis.
Born August 12, 1911, in Union County, she was a daughter of the late Calvin Elijah Burton Parker and Doris Snyder Parker. She retired several years ago from Cannon Mills, Plant One. She was a member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Jet Set and the Gladys Nelson Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Edwin Yates Gallimore, who died December 17, 1970 and Henry McCloud Childress, who died May 11, 1995; three sisters, Gladys Smith, Minnie Mills and Margaret Smith; and two brothers, Amos Parker and Bryce Parker.
Survivors include her step-son, Henry Thomas "Tommy" Childress and his wife, Sharon, of Kannapolis; a step-grandson, Randy Childress of Kannapolis, a brother-in-law, Hovis Smith of Wingate; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to Jackson Park United Methodist Church, 715 Mable Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28083.

Carl Dillon Alexander

Born: November 3, 1930
Died: December 6, 2004

Concord, NC - Mr. Carl Dillon Alexander, 74, of 476 Wilhelm Place NE, Concord, died Monday, December 6, 2004, at Avante at Concord.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday, December 8, 2004, at Epworth United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Christy will officiate. Interment will follow at Cabarrus Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until noon Wednesday at the church.
Born November 3, 1930 in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late William Dewey Alexander and Henrietta Deas Alexander. He was a retired employee of Widenhouse Services and Central Distributing Company. He formerly ran Wilmar Shell Service Station. He was a graduate of Oak Ridge Military Academy where he was a recipient of the American Spirit of Honor Medal. He was a veteran of the US Army and was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Jenkins Alexander, who died March 3, 1992; and a brother, Eugene Alexander.
Survivors include his daughter, Jane Alexander Hurlocker and her husband, Randy, of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Margaret Hudson of Eugene, Oregon, Melba Seaford of Yorktown, Virginia and Phyllis Hudson of Fernandina Beach, Florida; two brothers, Curtis Alexander of Kirkwood, Pennsylvania and Wayne Alexander of Chester, Virginia; and a grandson, Matthew Hurlocker.
Memorials may be sent to Epworth United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 1030 Burrage Road NE, Concord, NC 28025.

Sarah Hubbard Carter

Born: May 3, 1930
Died: December 6, 2004

Kannapolis, NC - Mrs. Sarah Hubbard Carter, 74, of 1709 West A Street, Kannapolis, died Monday, December 6, 2004, at her residence, following a serious illness of two weeks.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2004, at Kannapolis Cemetery. The Rev. Robert D. Howard will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday from noon until 1:30 p.m. at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born May 3, 1930, in Fayetteville, NC, she was a daughter of the late Milton L. Hubbard and Vesta McAlister Hubbard. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Hubert W. Carter; a daughter, Linda Price Bumgarner of Kannapolis; four stepdaughters, Debra Hamrick and her husband, David, Cathy Yarborough and her husband, William, Sherry Fisher and her husband, Curtis, all of Salisbury and Darla Carter and Tim Boardman of Cleveland; a sister, Alda Hubbard Mullis of Kannapolis; three brothers, Milton Hubbard of Omaha, Nebraska, LaFoy Hubbard and Larry W. Hubbard, both of Kannapolis; a grandson, Timothy Lee Smith of Kannapolis; a great-granddaughter, Ashley R. Smith; 13 step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and a good friend, Carol Carter.

Johnnie Lee Huskey Teeter

Born: June 9, 1931
Died: December 7, 2004

China Grove, NC - Ms. Johnnie Lee Huskey Teeter, 73, of 203 Chapel Street, China Grove, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at the Big Elm Nursing Center in Kannapolis.
Private services will be conducted at a later date.
Born June 9, 1931, in Cabarrus County, she had previously worked in the textile industry.

Doris McConnell Roberts

Born: January 16, 1929
Died: May 5, 2004

Kannapolis, NC - Wednesday morning, May 5, 2004, Mrs. Doris McConnell Roberts, 75, passed away peacefully at her home in Kannapolis, with family and loved ones by her side.
Mrs. Roberts was born in Mecklenburg County to the late Felix and Ila McConnell, Sr. The family including her brother, the late Felix Reid McConnell, Jr. moved to Kannapolis in the mid 1930s. She graduated from J. W. Cannon High School in 1946 and went to work in the tabulating department for Cannon Mills. In 1950, Doris McConnell married the late Glenn “Fireball” Roberts and moved to Daytona Beach, FL where she lived for over 20 years. She moved back to Kannapolis and opened Cousin’s Cross Stitch on South Main Street and retired in 1996 after selling her shop. She spent more time doing the things she loved, which included attending NASCAR events and functions, fund raisers and children charities.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Roberts of Cocoa Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Angela Gibson and her husband, Josh, of Concord and Matthew McDaniel and his wife, Jenny, of Cocoa Beach, FL; two great granddaughters, Chloe Gibson of Concord and Shyli McDaniel and great grandson, DJ Bennish, all of Cocoa Beach, FL; two nieces, Becki Barnhardt and her husband, Tony, Kathi Strader and her husband, Rick; one nephew, Felix Reid McConnell, III; one great nephew, Anthony Barnhardt, all of Kannapolis; great nieces, Suzan Senerchia and her husband, Jay, of Rougemont; Donna Tucker and her husband, Rodney, of Mooresville and Tammy Greene and her husband, Michael, of Concord.
There will be a memorial service celebrating her life, Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at 11:00 AM at Charity Baptist Church with Rev. James Hunt and Rev. Jim Gaines officiating.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, with a graveside services at 2:00 PM Tuesday.
The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Cabarrus County P.O. Box 1235, Concord, NC 28026-1235 or Old Timers Racing Club, 119 Northeast Drive, Archdale, NC 27263.

Robbie Eugene Ashby

Born: August 3, 1964
Died: April 2, 2005

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Robbie Eugene Ashby, 40, of 1300 H Meadow Ave., Kannapolis, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, in Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Pearlie Peterson will officiate. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 4, in Lady’s Funeral Home.
Mr. Ashby was born Aug. 3, 1964, in Mooresville. He was a son of Mrs. Joyce Harrington Ashby of Kannapolis and the late Albert C. Ashby. He was an employee of Food Lion and a former employee of Fieldcrest Cannon.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three daughters, Patricia Ashby, Lisa Ashby and Michelle Ashby, all of Kannapolis; a son, Robbie Eugene Ashby II of Salisbury; two sisters, Dorothy Ashby and Shelia Milligan, both of Kannapolis; and a brother, Virgil Ashby of Kannapolis. Lady’s Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Ashby.

Carla A. Bossardet

Born: September 21, 1947
Died: April 8, 2005

Concord, NC - Mrs. Carla A. Bossardet, 57, of 1099 Forest Ridge Drive, Concord, died at her home, Friday, April 8, 2005.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The Rev. Leon Hawks will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born September 21, 1947, in Holland, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Betty Zoerman Kuker. She formerly worked at Wal-Mart in Concord.
Survivors include her husband, Richard E. Bossardet; two daughters, Robin Lynn Bossardet of Kannapolis and Richelle Gable of Virginia Beach, VA; a son, Corey Alan Bossardet of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, Danny Kuker, Doug Kuker, and Jeffery Zoerman, all of Holland, Michigan; and seven grandchildren, Brittany Marie Bossardet, Jessica Bossardet, Anna Bossardet, Tina Bossardet, Stephanie Kruitoff, Brian Kruitoff and Curtis Kruitoff.

Bounnam Kouanphet

Born: May 16, 1933
Died: August 21, 2005

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Bounnam Kouanphet, 72, of 2123 Lane Street, Kannapolis, died Sunday, August 21, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation will follow at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Carolina Memorial Park Crematory.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born May 16, 1933 in Laos, he was retired from the US Army.
Survivors include his wife, Khom Kouanphet; three daughters, Nakhomleuth Kouanphet, Thongneuth Kouanphet and Khounkham Kouanphet; and three grandchildren.
