Kannapolis, NC - Mrs. Gladys Carpenter Brown, 100, a resident of Avante at Concord, and formerly of Kannapolis, died Sunday, September 18, 2005, at the nursing center.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2005, at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord.
Born May 7, 1905 in Stanly County, she was a homemaker. Her husband, Paul Brown, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a great-niece, Sandy Griffin Schuyler and husband, Eddie, of Kannapolis; and a nephew, Jerry Wayne Griffin of Stanfield.
Dorothy Carpenter Previtte

Died: August 22, 2005
Kannapolis, NC - Dorothy Carpenter Previtte, 74, a resident of Big Elm Nursing Center and formerly of Skyland Street in Kannapolis, died Monday, August 22, 2005, at the nursing center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2005, at Homestead Baptist Church. The Rev. Terry Brown will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of a son, Robert L. Previtte, 1204 Oakwood Avenue, Kannapolis.
Born May 5, 1931 in Anson County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Carpenter and Annie Burr Carpenter. She had lived in this area since 1967 and formerly worked as the head cashier at Cook's Department Store.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Lalan Previtte, who died July 7, 1990.
Survivors include two sons, Robert L. Previtte of Kannapolis and Richard A. Previtte of Sierra Vista, AZ.; two granddaughters, Michelle P. Miles of Concord and Angela Howard of Kannapolis; and a great-granddaughter, Amelia Mae Howard.
Mable Ruth Hinson Wilhelm

Kannapolis, NC - Mrs. Mable Ruth Hinson Gaskey Wilhelm, 84, formerly of Cadillac Street, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center.
A graveside services will be 1 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2005, at Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Olive Branch. Dr. Steve Mowery will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2005, at Lady’s Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 14, 1921, in Anson County, she was preceded in death in September 2000 by her husband, William H. “Bill” Wilhelm.
Survivors include her son, Stephen Gaskey of Kannapolis; daughter, Amy Martin of York, S.C.; brother, Raymond Hinson of Marshville; sisters, Alice Thompson of Marshville and Ollie Greer of Charlotte; grandchildren, Stephanie Rudolph and Jessica Sharpe; and great-grandchildren, Grayson Rudolph and William Sharpe.
Clayton Jaye Speight

Died: August 24, 2005
Kannapolis, NC - Clayton Jaye Speight, 23, of 113 Akron Avenue #3, Kannapolis, died unexpectedly Wednesday, August 24, 2005.
Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born October 22, 1981 in Cabarrus County, he was a son of Judith Lee Little of Kannapolis and the late Jasper Ardell "Dell" Speight. He was employed as an electrician's assistant with Trent Electric in Charlotte.
Survivors in addition to his mother include twin daughters, Melinda Rae Jacobs and Calinda Jaye Jacobs, of Kannapolis; a son, Clayton Ardell Speight of Kannapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Donna Rodden and Mrs. Danni Sherrill, both of Mooresville; a brother, Phillip Wayne Funderburk, Jr. of Kannapolis; two aunts, Mrs. Joan L. Jurney of Concord and Miss Jill Little of Kannapolis; one uncle, John L. Little, Jr. of China Grove; and 15 nieces and nephews.
Clayton was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Raymond R. Smith

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Raymond R. Smith, 71, of 2715 White Oak Lane, Kannapolis, died Thursday, August 18, 2005, at his residence.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Gene Beaver will officiate.
Born May 16, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was a son of the late George Smith and Chloe Masters Smith. He formerly worked as a truck driver and welder.
Survivors include his wife, Laurel M. Smith; three daughters, Beverly Anne Tucker of Lake City, FL; Cheryl Ann Castano, of Plant City, FL and Dena Eileen Smith of Live Oak, FL; a son, Raymond R. Smith, Jr. of Live Oak, FL; four stepchildren, Terrance J. Oliver, Susan J. Scott, Sherryl L. Fradenburg and Thomas J. Oliver; two sisters, Elsie Storer and Joyce Harkins, both of Ohio; two brothers, Frank Smith and George Smith, both of Ohio; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Henry Lee Eddleman

Kannapolis, NC - Henry Lee Eddleman, 66, of 280 Sassy Lane, Kannapolis, died Friday, September 2, 2005, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2005, at St. Enoch Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Mark Beam will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.
Born August 2, 1939, in Iredell County, he was a son of the late John Lawrence Eddleman and Jennie Overcash Eddleman. He was a retired pipe fitter and a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was also a member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church and the Harley Owners Group.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Rummage Eddleman; son, Timothy Allen Eddleman and wife, Robin, of Kannapolis; daughters, Tammy Eddleman Lunsford and Terri Eddleman Hyde and her husband, Todd, of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren, Tamisha and Frank Coe, Taylor Eddleman, Tabitha Lunsford, Lauren and Austin Hyde and Zackary Eddleman McClendon; and great-grandchild, Audric Coe.

Lawrence Perley Vincent

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Lawrence Perley Vincent, 85, of 289 South Circle Drive NW, Concord, died at his residence, Wednesday, September 14, 2005, following three months of declining health.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2005, at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Bowen will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by DAV Chapter 27 of Concord.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born June 12, 1920, in Massachusetts, he formerly owned and operated Fleetwood Dry Cleaners. He was a US Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jane Vincent, who died May 4, 2002 and a daughter, Phyllis Vincent.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Richardson and husband, Dale, of Winston Salem and Janie Halyburton of Concord; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Connie Orine Palmer

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Joe Harding, Jr. and the Rev. Steve Dagenhart will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.

Born May 9, 1941, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Olen John Palmer, Sr. and Catherine Scercy Palmer. She was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church and formerly worked in the Weave Room and Bleachery at Cannon Mills, Plant One.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ross Honeycutt; and a son, Gregory Dale Honeycutt.
Survivors include a daughter, Gwendolyn H. Wise and husband, Robert Lee Wise, Sr., of China Grove; a brother, David Ingram, Jr. and wife, Janice, of Lansing; and two grandchildren, Joshua Ross Wise of Concord and Robert Wise, Jr. of Mooresville.
Mildred "Millie" Tyner Burgess

Kannapolis, NC - Mrs. Mildred “Millie” Tyner Burgess, 75, of 2700 Brady Avenue, died Sunday, August 28, 2005, at her residence.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Weldon Key and Rev. Kenneth Upright will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
Mrs. Burgess was born October 26, 1929 in Chesterfield County, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Hardy Avender Tyner and Effie Martin Tyner. She retired several years ago from Jackson Park Pharmacy. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Alan “Chuck” Burgess, who died July 2, 1980.
Mrs. Burgess is survived by her husband, John C. “J.C.”Burgess; daughter, Reba Renee Lee and friend, Wayne Hershberger, of Kannapolis; sons, Richard Gordon Rouse, and wife, Bonnie, and Jeffrey Scott Burgess and wife, Becky, all of Kannapolis; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Mitchell Troy Sartain

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Mitchell Troy Sartain, 70, of 507 E. 12th Street, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord, following three years of declining health and a serious illness of six months.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2005 at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Bennie Burgess will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of a sister, Martha Spencer, 1501 Valwood Street, Kannapolis.
Born July 14, 1935, in Royston, Georgia, Mr. Sartain was the son of the late Grover Odell Sartain and Mazell Graham Sartain. He retired from the card room of Fieldcrest-Cannon Mills and was a veteran of the US Army.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Williams Sartain; a son, Tim Sartain of the home; and two sisters, Lucille Hatley and Martha Spencer, both of Kannapolis.
