KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Billy "Bill" Ray Reid, 78, of 2108 Fowler Street, Kannapolis, died Thursday, December 12, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 PM Sunday, December 15, 2002, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Todd Posey will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6:00 PM Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Mr. Reid.
Mr. Reid was born July 21, 1924 in Stanly County, NC. He was a son of the late Clarence Reid and Anna Fisher Reid. He retired in 1986 from Plant Sixteen of Cannon Mills where he was a supervisor. He was a member of Jackson Park Pentecostal Holiness Church in Kannapolis.
Mr. Reid is survived by his wife, Margaret Bryant Reid; two daughters, Diane Troutman of Kannapolis, Judy Pless and her husband, Steve, of Rockwell; sister, Geraldine Lackey of Landis; two brothers, Joe and Earl Reid, both of Kannapolis; one grandchild, Robert Troutman of Cleveland, NC.

Kenneth Ray Starnes

BIRTH DATE: December 4, 1943
DEATH DATE: December 14, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Kenneth Ray Starnes, 59, of 823 Elm Street, died Saturday, December 14, 2002, at his home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 17, 2002, Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. R.J. Hammond will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 PM Monday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Starnes was born December 4, 1943 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of Andy T. Starnes and Carrie Mae Hartsell Starnes. His wife, Elizabeth Ann Burnett Starnes, preceded him in death on February 24, 1999.
Mr. Starnes is survived by two daughters, Debbie Lynn Miller and Vivian Ann Clowney both of Kannapolis; two sons, Jeffrey Starnes of Kannapolis and Donald Starnes of Concord; three sisters, Belinda S. Dunlap, of Kannapolis, Janice S. Dixon, of China Grove and Gracie McRorie, of Concord; four brothers, Baxter Junior Starnes of Concord, Richard B. Starnes of Lexington, Johnny W. Starnes and David L. Starnes, both of Kannapolis; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

James "J.B." Boyd Fox

BIRTH DATE: May 31, 1921
DEATH DATE: December 22, 2002

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. James "J.B." Boyd Fox, 81, of 412 Oak Circle, Kannapolis, died Sunday, December 22, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, December 28, 2002, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Sarah Weaver will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan Veteran's Council.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 PM Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of his wife, Edna Fox, 407 Westover Avenue, Kannapolis.
Mr. Fox was born May 31, 1921 in Kannapolis. He was a son of the late Lee Roy Fox and Lillie Holdbrooks Fox. He retired from Cannon Mills as an electrician in the Electrical Department. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Poston Perkins Post 8989 and the Salisbury DAV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Deanna Marie Fox.
Mr. Fox is survived by his wife, Edna Hicks Fox; two daughters, Delores Fox of Brown Summit, Devonia Gail Fox of Kannapolis; two sons, Danny Lee Fox and David Wayne Fox, both of West Jefferson; four sisters, Margaret Pinyan of China Grove, Louise Wike, Barbara Ann James, Edna Hinson, all of Kannapolis; two brothers, Bobby Fox of China Grove, Jack Fox of Monterey, CA; eight grandchildren, Dennis Lynch, Douglas Lynch, Donald Lynch, John Fox, Jeff Fox, Jill Osbourne, Daniel Osbourne, and Devonia Michelle Fox; and ten great grandchildren.
Memorials my be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.

Ronald Elman Drye

BIRTH DATE: September 25, 1945
DEATH DATE: January 3, 2003

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Ronald Elman Drye, 57, of 2105 Englewood Street, Kannapolis, died Friday, January 3, 2003, after a nine year battle with Alzheimer's came to an end.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2003, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel at 5:00 PM. Rev. Jimmy Norred and Rev. David Morrow will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Drye was born on September 25, 1945 in Stanly County, NC. He was a son of the late Cecil Drye and Eunice Newsome Drye. He was a barber for many years. He retired due to ill health from Rowan Distributing Company in Salisbury where he was supervisor of the draft department. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and the Kannapolis Moose Lodge.
Mr. Drye is survived by his wife, Nancy Ennis Drye; two daughters, Ronda Drye Lewis of Locust, Angela L. Christy and her husband, Donnie, of Salisbury; brother, James Drye and his wife, Mary, of Concord; four grandchildren, Julie Lewis, Chase Lewis, Tyler Christy and Tanner Christy; brother-in-law, Bobby Ennis of Kannapolis.
Memorials may be sent to Carolina Piedmont Chapter, Alzheimer's Association, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
Ron will be greatly missed.

Atha Lemones Gibbs

BIRTH DATE: September 6, 1923
DEATH DATE: January 8, 2003

Harrisburg, NC - Mr. Atha Lemones Gibbs, 79, of 117 Autumn Lane, Harrisburg, NC died Tuesday, January 8, 2003, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, January 10, 2003, at Carolina Memorial Park. Rev. Ray Rippy will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 PM Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Gibbs was born September 6, 1923 in Hyde County, NC. He was a son of the late Johnny T. Gibbs and Nancy Gibbs. He was a retired truck driver for Thurston Motor Lines for 41 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Casey Gibbs, in 1996.
Mr. Gibbs is survived by a daughter, Linda G. Starnes of Mt. Pleasant, NC; two sons, Johnny Gibbs of Harrisburg and Sherman Gibbs of Lowell, NC; two sisters, Arlie Flowers and Colleen Cahoon, both of Engelhard, NC; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren.

Dr. Joseph "Joe" Thomas Brown

BIRTH DATE: February 6, 1912
DEATH DATE: January 8, 2003

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Dr. Joseph "Joe" Thomas Brown, 90, of 1005 Dakota Street, Kannapolis, died Wednesday, January 8, 2003, at the Loris Community Hospital in Loris, SC after four years of declining health and five days of serious illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, January 11, 2003, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Larry Pittman will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 PM Friday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Dr. Brown was born February 6, 1912 in Dothan, AL. He was a son of the late Fred Isaac Brown and Dorothy M. Brown. He was an optometrist in Kannapolis for many years. He was a member of Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church. During World War II, he was a radio operator with the merchant marines.
Dr. Brown is survived by his wife Ruby Sills Brown; step-son, James Alex Mason of Myrtle Beach, SC; and step-daughter, Brenda M. Westerman of Redwood City, CA.

Charles Evans Clark

BIRTH DATE: October 20, 1945
DEATH DATE: January 12, 2003

CHINA GROVE, NC - Mr. Charles Evans "Chuck" Clark, 57, of 4275 Franklin Street, (Enochville Area) China Grove, died Sunday, January 12, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Marshall Brooks will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by DAV Chapter 27 of Concord.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born October 20, 1945, in Red Bluff, SC, he was a son of the late Leander Clark and the late Verlie Mae Cope Clark. He was an electrician with Hinson Electrical Contractors of Kannapolis. He had lived in this area for 25 years and was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Knight Clark; one step-daughter, Geynell Altonen and her husband, Chris, of Rock Hill, SC; one step-son, Randy Fortner of Kannapolis; five sisters, Margaret Call of Kannapolis, Lib Williams of McCall, SC, Ann Garrison of Bennettsville, SC, Peggy Lambert and Dot Coggins of Maxton, NC; one brother, Jack Clark of Laurinburg, NC; and four grandchildren, Carmen, John, Randy Logan and Elizabeth.

Thermon L. Richardson

BIRTH DATE: February 28, 1919
DEATH DATE: January 19, 2003

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Thermon L. Richardson, 83, formerly of S. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, NC, died Sunday, January 19, 2003, at EdenGardens of Concord after a number of years of declining health and one month of serious illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at Memorial Baptist Church. The body will lie in-state from 1:30 to 2:00 PM at the church. Rev. Jim Harris and Rev. Don Davis will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Richardson was born February 28, 1919 in Union County, NC. He was a son of the late Luther Thomas Richardson and Lula Deese Richardson. He was retired and was formerly the owner and operator of R&F; Service Station for over 50 years. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Mr. Richardson, in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by a brother, Junior Richardson, and a sister, Lois Richardson.
Mr. Richardson is survived by his wife, Thelma Fink Richardson; two daughters, Jan Biggerstaff and her husband, Charles, of Wilmington, Joan Godwin of China Grove; sister, Doris Henderson of Kannapolis; three brothers, Glenn Richardson, Johnnie Richardson, and Aundra Richardson, all of Kannapolis; three grandchildren, Kelly G. Anderson, Mande Biggerstaff, and Chad Biggerstaff.

Blair Houston Sigmon

BIRTH DATE: February 8, 1911
DEATH DATE: January 20, 2003

CONCORD, NC - Mr. Blair Houston Sigmon, 91, of 596 Burrage Road NE, Concord, died Monday, January 20, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2003, at First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis. Dr. Joseph R. Crawford will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military honors conducted by DAV Chapter 27 of Concord.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born February 8, 1911, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Pinkney Lee Sigmon and the late Ida Cloninger Sigmon. Mr. Sigmon was a 1938 graduate of N. C. State and retired in 1983 from Cannon Mills Company. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and served in Europe under General Patton during several campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Black Sigmon; a daughter, Jane Sigmon Dunne and her husband, Jack, of Mint Hill; a son, B. Hugh Sigmon and his wife, Paula Wiles Sigmon, of Chappaqua, NY; and four grandchildren, Sean Patrick Dunne, Ian Cameron Dunne, Eric Benjamin Sigmon and Jeremy Paul Sigmon.
Memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 201 Vance Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

Joseph Perry Sills, Sr.

BIRTH DATE: August 17, 1919
DEATH DATE: January 27, 2003

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Joseph Perry Sills, 83, of Kannapolis, died Monday, January 27, 2003, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Thursday, January 30, 2003, at Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church. Rev. Larry Pittman will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Sills was born August 17, 1919 in Gastonia, NC. He was a son of the late Perry Fletcher and Ocia Falls Sills. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II in the Philippines and later with the occupation forces in Japan. In 1946, he received an honorable discharge. Mr. Sills began his career with Whitin Machine Works in Charlotte in 1947, and continued with the company and its successors, Whitin Roberts and White Consolidated until his retirement in 1988. He sold and managed the installation of textile equipment with textile mills throughout the Southeast and South America.
Mr. Sills was a founding member, deacon and elder of Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church. He was a Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of North Carolina.
Mr. Sills is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vellie Honeycutt Sills; daughter, Angela Sills Baucom and her husband, Ladd, of Davidson; two sons, Jeffrey Kent Sills and his wife, Moira, of Fort Worth, TX, Joseph Perry Sills, Jr. and his wife, Molly, of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Jeanette McCommons and Inell Sills, both of Kannapolis, Mary Davis of Charlotte, Ruby Brown of North Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren, Martin Baucom and his wife, Jennifer, of Durham, Brian Baucom and his wife, Emily, of Durham, Rosemary Sills and Caroline Sills, both of Fort Worth, TX, Ryan Sills, Katie Sills, and Gray Robinson, all of Winston-Salem.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church, 703 Tennessee Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
