KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Alma Walter Lequire, 83, of 4885 Hilton Lake Road, Kannapolis, died Sunday, August 7, 2005, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2005, at Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. The Rev. Karen Kaser-Odor will officiate. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born July 27, 1922, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Martin Monroe Walter, Sr. and Minnie Allmon Walter. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Willing Workers Circle and the Sunshine Group. She also participated in the senior adult activities at Concord First Assembly. Mrs. Lequire was a Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star and a member of the White Shrine.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dibrel Lequire, who died December 23, 1992.
Survivors include a son, Jerry LeQuire and wife, Nancy, of Salisbury; a daughter, Jean Chandler and husband, Ronald, of Kannapolis; four sisters, Doris Turner, Lessie Hudson and Frances Slough, all of Kannapolis and Jerline Helms of Ohio; two brothers, Clarence Walter and Martin Monroe Walter, Jr., both of Kannapolis; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to NorthEast Medical Center Foundation, Children's Hospital, 920 Church Street, North, Concord, NC 28025.

Mary Pence Gentle

BIRTH DATE: November 6, 1917
DEATH DATE: August 8, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Mary Pence Gentle, 87, formerly of Brantley Road, Kannapolis, died Monday, August 8, 2005, at Liberty Commons in Salisbury. She was born November 6, 1917 in Rowan County, and was the daughter of the late Richard H. Pence and Annie Steele Pence, and wife of the late Horace "Jack" Gentle.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2005, at Calvary Baptist Church. Dr. Dale Tanner and the Rev. Max Smith will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The body will remain at Lady's Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gentle was a member of Calvary Baptist Church (having served in many capacities), a long-term employee of Cannon Mills, and an avid gardener and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by a son, Lt. Col. Horace Stephen "Steve" Gentle; and three brothers, Robert Pence, Earl Pence and wife, Helen, and Eugene Pence.
Survivors include two grandsons, Tracey Scot Gentle of Forest Hills, NY and Todd A. Gentle and wife, Mary, of Raleigh; great-granddaughter, Keighley Gentle; daughter-in-law, Betty Obremski and husband, Ron, of Raleigh; brother, Milton R. Pence and wife, Ruby, of Kannapolis; sister, Margaret F. Cook and husband, Robert, of Salisbury; sisters-in-law, Nookie Pence of Cooleemee, and Alleen Pence of Kannapolis.
Memorials may be sent to Calvary Baptist Church, 703 Buick Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28083.

Carl Henry Goodman

BIRTH DATE: January 31, 1920
DEATH DATE: August 12, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Carl Henry Goodman, 85, formerly of 308 Walker Street, Kannapolis, died peacefully Friday, August 12, 2005, after fighting a long battle of declining health for several months at Transitional Health Services.
Services will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Kimball Lutheran Church, Kannapolis. The Reverend Hoke Ritchie and the Reverend Richard Rhoades will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends at the church from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday prior to the service.
Born January 31, 1920, in Goose Creek Community, Union County, he was the son of the late William and Susan Love Goodman. He was employed with Bouligny Company, Charlotte, where he displayed his sharp memory and machine skills. Later, he transferred to work in the Garage in Cannon Mills Company, where he worked until his retirement. He displayed an ability to work on almost anything. He mastered many skills and enjoyed repairing automobiles and anything technical. He was a long-time member of Kimball Lutheran Church and formerly Landis Church of Christ. He loved the Lord. He was known by his family to be a loving father that provided through diligent hard work even though he was physically disabled. He always put his family first.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all his brothers and sisters, Mae Fite, Theron Goodman, Vance Goodman, Hoyle Goodman, Beulah Goodman, Miranda Walker, half brothers Jennings Williams, Doyle Goodman and Clarence Goodman. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Alma Morrison Goodman and Louise Hahn Price Goodman.
Survivors include a son, Don Wayne Goodman and wife, Peggy; a daughter Carla Goodman Smith and husband, Ed. Grandchildren are Daryl Goodman and wife, Donna, and Emily Smith. He has three surviving great grandchildren, Allison, Olivia and Ellagrace Goodman. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and a very special friend, Louise Varner, who brought much joy in his later years.
The family wishes to especially thank Louise Varner for her faithful companionship and all the workers at Best of Care and Transitional Health Care that gave so much of themselves.

Lucille Daniel Allen

BIRTH DATE: June 1, 1912
DEATH DATE: September 21, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Lucille Daniel Allen, 93, a resident of Best of Care Rest Home and formerly of Trinity Church Road, Kannapolis, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, after a short period of declining health. Mrs. Allen was a kind, caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother. A dedicated woman of faith, Mrs. Allen ministered to others every day of her life.
Born June 1, 1912, in Madison County Ga., she was a daughter of the late Toomes Russell Daniel and Elvie Carithers Daniel. She was a long time resident of Kannapolis, and had been employed with Cannon Mills, retiring after many years of service. She was a longtime member of Shadybrook Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher for many years.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Robert Lee Allen Sr., in 1984; son, Harold Allen in 1998; and son-in law, Wade “Mac” McIntyre in 2005; sister, Margaret Daniel; brothers, William “Bill” Daniel and Granval Daniel.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Allen McIntyre of Columbia, SC; two sons, Robert “Bob” Lee Allen Jr. and his wife, Rosalyn of Charlotte, NC, Steve Allen and his wife, Karen of Concord NC; daughter in-law Janet Allen of Fullerton, CA; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Kathleen Daniel, Ruth Fortson, Jewel Campbell, Hazel Reynolds; two brothers; J Walter Daniel, Mauldin Daniel and her extended family including many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mrs. Allen will be missed by her family and many friends. She will be fondly remembered for her benevolent generosity, her compassion for others and her deep love for her family.
The family will receive friends at Lady’s Funeral Home, 268 N. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, NC, on Saturday, September 24th from 1-2:00 pm. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove. At other times, the family will be at the home of her son, Steve Allen, 4620 Carolando Drive, Concord, NC.

Nellie Gillespie Sigmon

BIRTH DATE: July 18, 1916
DEATH DATE: September 28, 2005

CONCORD, NC - Mrs. Nellie Gillespie Sigmon, 89, of Concord, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at 3:00 pm. The services will be held at Rocky River Presbyterian Church followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday from 1:30 until 3 pm.
Nellie was born in Asheville on July 18, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Nelia Elizabeth Carver Gillespie and Grady Regan Gillespie. Due to the death of her father in 1926, Nellie was sent to a home and school in Lexington sponsored by the Junior Order for children of men who belonged to their fraternal brotherhood. She graduated from high school there and then went home to help her mother.
In 1935, Nellie and her family moved to Kannapolis, where she and her sister, Elva, went to work for Cannon Mills. While living at the "Hall", she met Forney Reid Sigmon. They were married on November 28, 1940. She and Forney, now deceased, both worked for Cannon Mills until their retirement.
In 1953, they moved to the Rocky River Community where she continued to live until her death. She was known and loved by many in the community. She was an active member of Rocky River Presbyterian Church. She taught lessons in her Sunday school class and at the monthly circle meetings of the Presbyterian women. She also helped by taking on various other roles such as class secretary, keeper of the least coin offering, five cents a meal offering and other duties whenever called upon. She was involved with the Senior Citizens group, The Fourth Tuesday Club, sponsored by the church.
She is survived by her loving family, a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Sigmon; two grandchildren, Anthony Lee Larson of Williamsburg, VA and Heather Lynn Larson of Chicago, IL; two sisters and their husbands, Dr. and Mrs. Stratton Murrell of Jacksonville, NC and Mr. & Mrs. Robert McKinnell of Greenville, SC.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Elva Lee Gillespie Motley of Concord and Maxine S. Pridgen of Fayetteville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Rocky River Presbyterian Church, Scholarship Fund, 7940 Rocky River Road, Concord, NC 28025.

Mary Louise Earnhardt

BIRTH DATE: June 13, 1913
DEATH DATE: September 30, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Mary Louise Earnhardt, 92, of Concord Lake Road, Kannapolis, died Friday, September 30, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center, following six years of declining health and a serious illness of 15 months.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jim Bowen and the Rev. Wes Judy will officiate. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born June 13, 1913, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Lee Weddington Earnhardt, Sr. and Mary Marks Barnhardt Earnhardt and was a 1930 graduate of Winecoff High School. She was a homemaker and formerly worked in the sheet department at Cannon Mills Plant No. 1 in the late 1930's. She was the oldest confirmed member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and was a member of Sunday School Class No. 4 and the Lillie Scott Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Burleyson Earnhardt, who died November 6, 1991; and a brother, Aubrey Wilson Earnhardt.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Louise Earnhardt Eagle and husband, Harold McKenzie "Mackie" Eagle, Jr. of Greensboro; a brother, Lee Weddington "L. W." Earnhardt, Jr. of Kannapolis and Wrightsville Beach; four grandchildren, Mark McKenzie Eagle of Monroe, Meredith Ann Eagle Brown of Charlotte, Michael Carrigan Eagle of Greensboro and Marshal Kennedy Eagle of Smyrna, Ga.; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent ot Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Building Fund, 301 Mt. Olivet Road, Concord, NC 28025.

Tony Sifford Goodman

BIRTH DATE: October 22, 1928
DEATH DATE: October 2, 2005

CONCORD, NC - Tony Sifford Goodman, 76 of 4500 Cindy Lane, Concord, died Sunday October 2, 2005 at Avante Nursing Center.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at Lady’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, from 6 until 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will follow at 7:30 p.m. in Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Clarence Sifford will officiate. A committal service will be at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at 10:00 a.m.
Born October 22, 1928 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late John Monroe Goodman and Clara Sifford Goodman. He worked on the farm while he was able.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ned Goodman of Lexington and Bryce Goodman of Concord; and two step-brothers Clifford Rimer of Concord, and Jerry Rimer of Lexington.
Survivors include three brothers, Fred Monroe Goodman of Mt. Pleasant, Harry Lee Goodman and John Norman Goodman of Concord; and two sisters, Ruth Goodman Sutherland of California and Pauline Goodman Corriher of China Grove.
Memorials may be made to Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 4500 Rimer Road, Concord, NC 28025.

Charles Edwin "Ed" Harrielle

BIRTH DATE: June 25, 1917
DEATH DATE: October 3, 2005

CONCORD, NC - Mr. Charles E. "Ed" Harrielle, 88, of 217 Beverly Drive NE, Concord, died Monday, October 3, 2005, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at Royal Oaks United Methodist Church in Kannapolis. The Rev. Darrin Everhart and the Rev. Bill Hoyle will officiate. Interment will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Salisbury with his brother-in-law, Father Conrad Kimbrough officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Royal Oaks United Methodist Church. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born June 25, 1917, in Waterman, Illinois, he was a son of the late Clarence Everett Harrielle and Gladys Hawkins Harrielle Hoadley. He retired from Par Gas Company as manager of the Kannapolis District. He was a member of Royal Oaks United Methodist Church and was past president of the Concord Civitan Club. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and loved to fly and fish.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Hughlin Harrielle.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Kimbrough Harrielle, whom he married in 1946; a sister, Dixene Setchell of Mendota, Il.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to Royal Oaks United Methodist Church, 1020 Kansas Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
Lady's Funeral Home in Kannapolis is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dezzi Inell Sills

BIRTH DATE: December 4, 1916
DEATH DATE: October 7, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Dezzi Inell Sills, 88, formerly of Dakota Street, Kannapolis, died Friday, October 7, 2005, at Sunrise at Eastover in Charlotte.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born December 4, 1916, in Gaston County, she was a daughter of the late Perry Fletcher Sills and Ocia Falls Sills. She retired several years ago from Cannon Mills, where she was employed for 30 years. She was a charter member of Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James Sills, Coy Sills and Joseph P. Sills.
Survivors include three sisters, Jeanette Sills McCommons of Kannapolis, Ruby Sills Brown of N. Myrtle Beach, SC and Mary Sills Davis of Charlotte; and a number of nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
