KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Ada Bell Gaddy Smith, 84 of 210 West 21st Street, Kannapolis, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005 at her home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2005, at North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church with the Rev Douglas Smith and the Rev. Steve Beam officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.
The family will receive friends at Lady’s Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Friday. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service Friday.
March 11, 1921 in Stanly County, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Washington Gaddy and Addie Mae Hall Gaddy. She retired from the sewing room of Cannon Mills Plant One in 1982 and was a member of St. Paul Wesleyan Church, Gold Hill.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Roland Smith; a daughter, Mary L. Lomax Deaton of Kannapolis; four grandchildren, Rex R. St. John, Michael Scott St. John, Trina St. John Szekely and Shelly St. John Szekely; seven great-grandchildren, Justin Beaver, Amber Page, Chris St. John, B.J. St. John, Nick St. John, Alec Szekely and Craig Szekely; and three great-great grandchildren, Kenzie Beaver, Hayden Page and Blake Page.

Pauline McElroy Seagraves

CONCORD, NC - Mrs. Pauline Cora McElroy Seagraves, 92, of 7346 Gold Hill Road, Concord, died Friday, August 25, 2006, at her home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tommy Long and the Rev. Gary Chapman will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:45 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born January 29, 1914, in Madison County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas McElroy and Annie Cora Adams McElroy. She was a homemaker and member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
Her husband, Paul Hardy Seagraves, preceded her in death on January 3, 2001.
Survivors include four sons, Donnie Seagraves and wife Cindy, Bobby Seagraves and wife Linda, both of Concord, Wayne Seagraves and wife Belinda of Apex, Harold Seagraves and wife Margaret of Colorado Springs, CO; 10 grandchildren, Jodie Dickie, Hal Seagraves, Shannon Miskol, Lorie Owens, Scottie Seagraves, Brian Seagraves, Brad Seagraves, Timmy Seagraves, D. J. Seagraves and Mattie Seagraves; and eight great-grandchildren.
Bettie Johnson Armstrong

DEATH DATE: August 22, 2006
KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Bettie Johnson Armstrong, a resident of Jonnie's Home for the Retired, Harrisburg and formerly of Summit Avenue, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 2006, at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church. The Rev. Stan Welch will officiate. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Carolina Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born in Alexander County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Clinton Johnson and Fannie Sipe Johnson. Educated in the Alexander County schools, she retired from the sewing room of Cannon Mills. She was a member of Blackwelder Park Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class, past member of the choir, and former Training Union and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was also a member of the Woodmen of the World and an Avon representative for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Maude Johnson Harrington, Nellie Johnson Murph, Albert Johnson and Mary Johnson Pressley.
Survivors include her sister, Sadie Johnson Perry of Flagler Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Lorene Johnson of Newton; caregiver, Joyce Messer of Concord; a number of nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Mary Kathryn Gibson

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Mary Kathryn Schenck Gibson, 71, of 1306 Birch Street, died Friday August 18, 2006, at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, 2006, at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Audra Houpe will officiate. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Sunday at Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Birch Street.
Mrs. Gibson was born April 3, 1935 in Rowan County. She was a daughter of the late Charles Robert Schenck, Sr. and Eva Ruth Bryant Schenck She was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church. She retired from Cannon Mills and was later employed at Midway Tanning. For over 45 years, Mrs. Gibson was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Gibson is survived by a daughter, Teresa Lynn Davis of Burgaw and a son, Tommy Keith Gibson of Kannapolis. She is also survived by a brother, Guy Schenck of China Grove and a sister, Minnie Ruth Lail of Concord, six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Evelyn Knight Meismer

ROCKWELL, NC - Mrs. Evelyn Knight Meismer, 87, of Rockwell, died Thursday, August 3, 2006, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 2006, at Phaniels Baptist Church. The Rev. Michael Taylor will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Born June 9, 1919, in Gaston County, she was a daughter of the late John Knight and Ozell Beam Knight. She was a homemaker and a member of Phaniels Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jess C. Meismer.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Brown of Rockwell; one son, J. C. Meismer of Raeford; three sisters, Nancy Bost of Monroe, Linda Cobb of Kannapolis and Helen Williams of Maryland; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Frances White Young

ASHEBORO, NC - Mrs. Frances White Young, 82, a resident of Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton, and formerly of Asheboro, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at the nursing center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 14, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The Rev. Arnold Comer will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home in Asheboro, and from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born November 15, 1923, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late William Hildrey White and Dora Cashion White. She was employed for many years as a secretary for Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, Bassett Furniture in Newton, and Burlington Industries in Asheboro and Burlington.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Earl Young; a grandson, Matthew Young; son-in-law, Ronald "Bear" Lanier; three sisters, Margaret Wise, Jewel Brown and Elizabeth Padgett; and brothers, Paul White, Hillary White and Wayne White.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Y. King and husband, Wayne, of Asheboro; a son, David L. Young and wife, Karen, of Ramseur; one sister, Mary Ellen Wilhelm of Cleveland; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Iva Hayes Hardin

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Iva Hayes Knight Hardin, 98, of Kannapolis, died Sunday, July 9, 2006, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2006, at Elwood Lane Freewill Baptist Church. The Rev. David Parrish and the Rev. Wayne Watson will officiate. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of a granddaughter, Donna Helms.
Born August 31, 1907, in Huntersville, she was the daughter of the late Jim Hayes and Katie Gaskey Hayes. She was a member of Elwood Lane Freewill Baptist Church. She retired several years ago from Cannon Mills following 55 years of employment.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Jesse Edward Knight and John Newberry Hardin; two sons, Dewey Lee Williams and William A. "Bill" Knight; a daughter, Betty Jean Knight; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include a brother, Conway Hayes of Landis; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Marion McConnell Nickelson

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Marion Groce McConnell Nickelson, 79, a resident of Transitional Health Services and formerly of Oakwood Avenue, Kannapolis, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, at NorthEast Medical Center.
A graveside service with interment to follow will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2006, at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. Jamie Hunt will officiate.
The family will be at the home of a daughter, Kathi Strader, 1435 Sherwood Drive, Kannapolis.
Born May 31, 1927, in Yadkin County, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Groce and Naomi Underwood Groce. She had lived in this area since 1946 and retired from the K&W; Cafeteria in Kannapolis. She was a member of Coddle Creek ARP Church.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Felix Reid McConnell, Jr., who died in 1968 and Charles J. Nickelson, who died in 1992.
Survivors include two daughters, Becki Barnhardt and husband Tony and Kathi Strader and husband Rick, both of Kannapolis; two sons, F. Reid McConnell III and Carl Nickelson and wife Annette, both of Kannapolis; one brother, Don Groce and wife Helen of Greensboro; nine grandchildren, Suzan Senerchia and husband Jay of Rougemont, Andy Barnhardt of Kannapolis, Tammy Greene of Mt. Pleasant, Donna Tucker and husband Rodney of Mooresville, Justin Nickelson, Zachary Nickelson, Whitney Nickelson, Ricky Strader and wife Pam, all of Kannapolis, and Sabrina Wallin and husband Kevin of Mooresville; seven great-grandchildren, Caleb Greene of Concord, David Senerchia of Rougemont, Garrett Tucker of Mooresville, Joshua Wallin of Mooresville, Casey Greene of Mt. Charles Gordon Sechler

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2006, at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. The Rev. Richard Rhoades and Dr. Hoke Ritchie will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Sechler was born May 1, 1928 in Cabarrus County, a son of the late Harry Andrew Sechler and Pearl Furr Sechler. He was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from Facilities Management at NorthEast Medical Center after 29 years employment.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hooper Sechler; a son Bill Sechler and his wife, Lynda, of Rockwell; a daughter, Tammy S. Kilby and husband, Tom, of Kannapolis; three grandchildren, Robert Hill, Jennifer Ridgell and husband, Chris, and Kaitlyn Kilby; three great-grandchildren, Britny Hill, Landon Ridgell and Kamden Ridgell.

Dewitt Jerry "Dee" Ford

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Dewitt Jerry "Dee" Ford, 76, of 416 East 21st Street, died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at his home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. J. Donald McManus and Rev. Randall Ritchie will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 pm Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at their respective homes.
Mr. Ford was born July 22, 1929 in Stanly County. He was a son of the late Arch Harrison Ford and Nonie Hagler Ford. Dee was a member of Rodgers Park United Church of Christ. He retired from Celanese Fiber-Industries. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, camping and was an avid bingo player.
Mr. Ford, in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Williams Burroughs Ford, on May 31, 2000.
Mr. Ford is survived by a step-daughter, Linda Ritchie of Kannapolis; step-son, Roger Burroughs, and wife, Sharoyn, of Kannapolis; six grandchildren, Mark Ritchie and wife, Lisa, Roger D. Burroughs, Jr. and wife, Ali, Bradley S. Burroughs, Randall Ritchie and wife, Chris, Jennifer B. Holsclaw and husband, Chris, Lori Burroughs; seven great grandchildren, Jeremy Ritchie, Zachary Ritchie, Amanda Ritchie, Noah Ritchie, Jackson Holsclaw, Justin Holsclaw and Grant Burroughs; and his caregiver, Hattie Myers.
