Frances Alexander Critz

SALISBURY, NC - Mrs. Frances Alexander Critz, "Granny", 87, of 270 Knoll View Drive, Salisbury, and formerly of Kannapolis and China Grove, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Liberty Commons Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Larry Beaver will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of daughters, Robin Wagner and Sherry Critz, 270 Knoll View Drive, Salisbury.
Born June 5, 1918, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Carl P. Alexander and Mozelle Troutman Alexander. She retired from the Washcloth Department of Cannon Mills, Plant One and was a member of Main Street Baptist Church in China Grove. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C. F. Critz; and a brother, Norman Alexander.
Survivors include three daughters, Robin Wagner and husband Wayne and Sherry Critz, both of Salisbury, and Patsy Burcham of Winston Salem; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Wagner and wife Debra of Concord, Wendy Overcash and husband Scott and Christopher Wagner and wife Cynthia, both of Salisbury and Aprile Dyson and husband Brian of Tarboro; and seven great-grandchildren, Brandon Wagner, Zachary Wagner, Kristen Overcash, Matthew Wagner, Dillon Overcash, Skylar Dyson and Ryan Overcash.

Donald Wayne Drye

DEATH DATE: March 24, 2006
MT. PLEASANT, NC - Donald Wayne Drye, 60, of 8220 Malibu Road, died Friday, March 24, 2006, at his residence.
There will be a memorial service at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. Mr. Daniel Hunsucker will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Mr. Drye was born April 20, 1945, in Cabarrus County, the son of the late B.W. Drye and Daisy Horton Drye. He was a roofer and was employed by a number of roofing contractors.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Peggy Julian and husband, Frankie, of Mooresville and Mrs. Patty Safrit of the home; also surviving are a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Barbara Ann Barr

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Barbara Ann Shrum Barr, 72, of 813 Corriher Street, Kannapolis, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. James Griffin will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born March 1, 1934, in Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Vernon Boyce Shrum and Mary Frances Gaddy Shrum. She was employed for 17 years in the washcloth cutting department of Fieldcrest-Cannon Mills.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Gail Barr.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby G. Barr; a daughter, Lisa Ann Barr of Kannapolis; a sister, Mary Alice Shrum of Mooresville; two brothers, Marion Boyce Schrum of Kannapolis and Charles Shrum of Concord; and four grandchildren, Andrew Vanderburg of Claremont, Daniel Harrington of Kannapolis, Catherine Tucker and Christopher Tucker, both of home.

Samuel Clarence Reavis

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Samuel Clarence Reavis, 93, a resident of Morningside Assisted Living Center, Concord, NC and formerly of South Walnut Street, died Thursday, March 23, 2006.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Rich Szekely and Rev. Larry Allen will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Reavis was born August 1, 1912 in Davie County, NC. He was a son of the late Roma F. Reavis and Maude Joyner Reavis. He was a graduate of Courtney High School in Yadkin County. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Engineers in North Africa and Italy. He retired from the cutting department of Cannon Mills in 1971. He has been a member of West Point Baptist Church for over 60 years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sallie Faye Dull Reavis; two sons, Gary B. Reavis and wife, Barbara, and Mike Reavis and wife, Linda; two grandchildren, Lynn R. Clark and husband, Kevin, and Grayson Isenberg; two great grandchildren, Rebecca and Aaron Clark; and a sister, Maxine Hoots.

Christopher Lee Sheets

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Christopher Lee "Chris" Sheets, 23, of 3180 Camp Julia Road, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Raymond Ross will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 11 to 12:15 p.m. Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born June 14, 1982, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of Randy W. Sheets and Deborah Kerley Sheets. He was employed as a carpenter and formerly worked for Carolina Fire Control.
Survivors include his parents, Deborah Kerley Sheets of the home, and Randy W. Sheets of Concord; a sister, Amanda Rae Sheets of the home; and his grandmother, Ruth Ballard and husband, Tommy, of Lincolnton.
Leon Vibert Bost

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Leon Vibert Bost, 89, of 1312 Dogwood Avenue, Kannapolis, died Monday, March 20, 2006, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dave Cash will officiate. Members of the Cabarrus County Chapter of Christian Businessmen will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born November 30, 1916, in Richmond, Virginia, he was the son of the late Junius Vibert Bost and Hattie Mae Fesperman Bost. He was retired from Hooper-Holmes Insurance of Basking Ridge, NJ. He was an active member of Midway United Methodist Church where he taught the Young Adult's Sunday School class, served as a youth leader and was active in the United Methodist Men and the JOY Club. He was employed for 20 years as the director of the health club at Cannon Memorial YMCA and was a member of the Y's Triangle Club. Leon also enjoyed his affiliation with the Christian Businessmen's Committee of Cabarrus County. He was a former member of Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Lula Byars Bost; two sons, Danny Hart Bost and wife, Linda, of China Grove, and Richard Leon Bost and wife, Freda, of Mt. Pleasant; three grandchildren, Brooke Beam and husband, Matthew, Heather Horne and husband, John, and Dustin Bost and wife, Brandy; four great-grandchildren, Carson and Chloe Beam and Tyler and Paige Bost; and special little friends, Maxwell and Parker Steele.

Shirley Glanville Hobbs

Harrisburg, NC - Shirley Glanville Hobbs, 69, of 6052 Roseway Court, Harrisburg, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
A memorial service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. Chaplain Lonnie Clouse will officiate.
Born November 29, 1936, in Hogh Wycombe, England, she was the daughter of the late Albert William Glanville and Gladys Lacey Glanville. She was a groomer with Top Dog Critter Cleaners.
She was preceded in death by a son, Colin Paul.
Survivors include four daughters, Sarah Brown and husband, Scott, of Harrisburg, Carol Tyndall and husband, Alan, of Charlotte, Debbie Day of Los Angeles. California and Windi Matyczynski of England; a sister, Marilyn Dix of England; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed by her extended family, friends and loyal customers of Top Dog Critter Cleaners.
Julia Watson Maulden

Davidson, NC - Julia Caroline Watson Maulden, 92, of 400 Avinger Lane, Davidson, died Friday, March 10, 2006, at the Pines at Davidson.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. Dr. Will Terry and Dr. Bill Tiemann will officiate. A reception for family and friends will follow the service.
The family will gather at 10 a.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home in Kannapolis for a graveside service.
Born September 27, 1913, in Wilmington, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Arnold Watson and Ruby Piver Watson. She was a member of Davidson College Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder. She received a bachelor's degree and master's degree from the University of North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Paul R. Maulden, who died August 30, 1963; a daughter, Gilbertine Maulden Glass; and a sister, Mary Hester Pritchard.
Survivors include three sons, Kerry Arnold Maulden and wife, Dianne, of Farragut, TN, Paul R. Maulden, Jr. and wife, Carol, of Mountain City, TN, and Timothy M. Maulden and wife, Leah, of Maitland, FL; a half-sister, Gloria Renfrew, and husband, Andrew, of West Bloomfield, Mich.; three foster children, Elsie Vest Barnes and husband, Paul, of Archdale, Margaret Bullard Linker of Harrisburg, and Emmanuel Bango of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren, Julie Glass Martin-Korb, Kenneth Glass, Paul Glass, Kim Maulden Fox, Dr. Bryan Maulden, Chris Maulden and Kan Kawashima; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Daisy Tanner Watkins

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Daisy Tanner Watkins, 84, of 304 Meadowood Circle, Kannapolis, died at her residence. Thursday, March 9, 2006.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Tom Tucker will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born June 27, 1921 in Jackson County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Henry Tanner and Lona Thomas Tanner. She worked in the Set Department and other areas of Cannon Mills from 1939 until 1986. She was the last surviving charter member of her beloved church, Calvary Baptist Church on Buick Avenue in Kannapolis, where she taught Sunday School for 65 years, sang in the choir, played the piano, and served on many church committees and mission organizations. She graduated from Cannon High School in Kannapolis in 1938.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyce Watkins; three sisters, Irene Rogers, Polly Lowder and Grace McManus; two brothers Chester Tanner and Grady Tanner; one grandchild and one great- grandson.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Watkins Smith and husband, the Rev. Max Smith of Kannapolis; a sister, Mrs. Edna Biggerstaff of Universal Health Care of Concord; three grandchildren, Phil Smith and wife Dee of Swansboro, Kenny Smith and Kevin Smith and wife, Dana, both of Kingsport, TN; one great-grandchild, Brock Smith of Swansboro; several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Carolyn Tanner Norris of Kannapolis, whom she helped rear for 19 years.

John Quincy Darnell

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. John Quincy Darnell, 66, of 1100 Skyland Drive, Kannapolis, died unexpectedly Monday, March 6, 2006, at his residence.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2006, at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. Leon Hawks will officiate.
Born February 21, 1940, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late William Cecil Darnell and Rose Powers Darnell. He formerly was employed as a furniture maker in the mobile home industry and the former Cannon Mills.
He is survived by a sister, Linda Sue Darnell of Davie, Florida.
