Marilyn Cramer Samuelson

CONCORD, NC - Mrs. Marilyn Louise Cramer Samuelson, 82, a resident of the Discovery Program at Concord Place, died Sunday, February 12, 2006, at Concord Place.
Interment will be at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO at a later date.
Mrs. Samuelson was born December 25, 1923 in Chicago, IL. She was a daughter of the late Raymond Cramer and Grace Pritchard Cramer. She was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served during World War II. After serving in the military, she attended Wright College in Chicago. She later became a stay at home mom to raise her children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore George Samuelson.
Mrs. Samuelson is survived by two sons, Dana Samuelson and wife, Jan, of Salisbury, NC and Thomas Samuelson and wife, Kristi, of Castle Rock, CO; brother, Thomas Cramer of Pittsburgh, PA; three grandchildren, Eliza, Jeff, and Braden.
Mary Carol Palisin

DEATH DATE: February 11, 2006
KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Mary Carol Kadela Palisin, beloved mother and grandmother, 66, of 1100 Westlake Drive, Kannapolis, died Saturday, February 11, 2006, at her residence, surrounded by family.
A memorial mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Alvaro Riquelme will officiate.
Born December 13, 1939, in Pleasantville, New York, she was a daughter of the late Alois Louis Kadela and Marina Catherine Terhaar Kadela. She had lived in Kannapolis for the past 10 years and was a homemaker and volunteer. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was actively involved and had served several terms as president of the Ladies Guild. She served on the Board of Directors of Cooperative Christian Ministry and was a member of the Kannapolis Country Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Palisin, who died August 7, 1998.
Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Palisin Sigmund of Austin, TX and Jill Marina Mitchell of Lansdale, PA; two sons, Jeffry Louis Palisin of Traverse City, Michigan and Jason Edward Palisin of Plano, TX; a sister, Frances C. Slate of Danville, CA; one brother, Jerome J. Kadela of Kannapolis; and six grandchildren, Elizabeth Palisin, Abigail Palisin, Ian Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell, Nicolas Sigmund and Sean Mitchell.

Wade J. McDonald

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Wade J. McDonald, 79, of 6161 Old Concord-Salisbury Road, died Monday, January 30, 2006, at Universal Health Care.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mary Hatley officiating. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lady’s Funeral Home.
Mr. McDonald was born March 3, 1926, in Concord, the son of the late Arthur McDonald and Dora Hartsell McDonald. He retired from Cannon Mills and Collins and Aikman and was a member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church. Mr. McDonald was a veteran of World War II.
Mr. McDonald is survived by his wife, Betty B. McDonald; stepdaughters, Joyce Doby, Nancy Page and husband, Warren, and Joy Watson and husband, Chris; stepsons, Wallace Tucker and Rick Phillips and wife, Tina; sister, Ruby Quandt of Parris, Ill.; and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Mary Hartley Self

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mary Lee Hartley Self, 91, of 1001 Desoto Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at Five Oaks Nursing Center.
Funeral services for Mrs. Self will be conducted in Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Roger Head and the Rev. Donna Wise officiating. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Lady’s Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Mrs. Self was born in Blowing Rock on February 14, 1914, to the late Libby J. Hartley and Dona Hartley. She was a retired beautician and homemaker and attended Eastwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include six children, Steve Self of the home; James M. Self and wife, Patsy, of Concord; Bill Self and wife, Ann, of Lanham, Md.; Darrel Self and wife, Helen, of Naples, Fla.; Carol Cody and husband, Sonny, of Kannapolis; and Jill Murph and husband, Danny, of China Grove; one brother, Grady Hartley of Gastonia; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Hoyt Marshall Redmond
BIRTH DATE: July 27, 1924
DEATH DATE: December 30, 2005
CHINA GROVE, NC - Mr. Hoyt Marshall Redmond, 81, died Friday, December 30, 2005, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, January 1, 2006, at New Hope Worship Center in Concord. The Rev. Gary A. Clouse and Dr. Tom Snipes will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Redmond was born July 27, 1924 in Iredell County. He was the son of the late Byrd M. Redmond and Allie Crater Redmond. He was retired from the insurance business as a salesman. He was a member of First Foursquare Church in Concord. He was the Valedictorian of his graduation class at Union Grove.
Mr. Redmond is survived by his wife, Hilda Lee James Redmond; six children, Kevin Redmond of the home, Melody Proctor and husband, Rick, of Thomasville, Mark Redmond and wife, Kim, of Concord, Lisa Burleson and husband, Rick, of China Grove, Stephan Redmond and wife, Jody, of Kannapolis, Timothy Redmond and wife, Mitzi, of China Grove; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Charlene Mattson Bentley

CONCORD, NC - Charlene Dudley Mattson Bentley, 40, of 221 Blackberry Trail, Concord, died Wednesday, December 28, 2005.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2006, at Crossroads United Methodist Church, 220 George Liles Parkway, Concord.
Born June 2, 1965, in Cherry Hill, NJ, she was the daughter of Beverly Kaplan Mattson and the late Donald Mattson. She was employed as a registered nurse at NorthEast Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Lee Wayne Bentley of the home; mother, Beverly Kaplan Mattson of N. Palm Beach, Florida; and a brother, Rob Mattson of the home.

Pink "Edd" Edward Wagoner

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Pink "Edd" Edward Wagoner, 77, of 2905 Lane Street, died Monday, December 26, 2005, at his residence.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, December 29, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. David Parrish will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of a sister, Ruby Wagoner, 2901 Lane Street, Kannapolis.
Edd was born January 14, 1928 in Kannapolis. He was a son of the late Pink James Wagoner and Martha Ervin Wagoner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in World War II. He retired after 30 years as a correctional officer for Rowan County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Smith Wagoner, in October 1978.
Edd is survived by five children, Margie DeHart and Jerry Allen, both of Kannapolis, Tracy Rhodes of Concord, Lois Donovan of Tennessee, Brenda Jess of Southport, NC; four sisters, Louise Bost, Betty Wingler, Ruby Wagoner, Mary Linker, all of Kannapolis; one brother, Boyd Wagoner of Kannapolis; sixteen grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
Jessie "Cotton" William Marks
BIRTH DATE: February 4, 1924
DEATH DATE: December 26, 2005
KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Jessie “Cotton” William Marks, 81, of 2411 N. Main Street, died Monday, December 26, 2005, at the home of his daughter, Annette Grossman.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at Carolina Memorial Park. Rev. Roland Smith will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:00 am Wednesday at the cemetery.
Mr. Marks was born February 4, 1924 in Rowan County. He was the son of the late Grover Marks and Lola Whitley Marks. He was retired from Propst Brother’s, formerly Kannapolis Ice and Fuel, where he worked for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Kannapolis Moose Lodge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Derrick Marks.
Mr. Marks is survived by two daughters, Annette Grossman and husband, Steve, and Cyndi Marks all of Concord; son, Dennis Marks and wife, Jenna, of Statesville; seven grandchildren, Will Marks, Tracy Wilhelm and husband, Mark, Scott Marks and wife, Angela, Nicholas Williams and fiancée, Nicole Dellisanti, Whitney Williams, Mandy Grossman and fiancé, Jason Porter, and Rachel Grossman; three great grandchildren. Cotton is also survived by his former wife, Helen Marks, and his long-time friend, Ronnie Linker.
The family has requested that memorials may be sent to Hospice of Cabarrus County, P.O. Box 1235, Concord, NC 28026-1235, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to Hospice of Cabarrus County for all of their support.
Cotton's final wish was fulfilled when he and the family enjoyed an Oyster Roast for Christmas.
Barbara "Bobbie" Montooth

Charlotte, NC - Barbara "Bobbie" Montooth, 76, a resident of the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center in Morganton, and formerly of Charlotte, died at the center, Friday, December 23, 2005.
A graveside service with interment to follow will be conducted Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove. The Rev. Leon Hawks will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home, 268 N. Cannon Blvd, Kannapolis, followed by a procession to the cemetery.
Born February 20, 1929, in Charlotte, she was a loving daughter of Frank L. Montooth and Velna McCollum Montooth of Concord.
"Bobbie", as she was affectionately known, is survived by a sister, Faye M. Smith of Charlotte; one brother, F. L. Montooth of Fayetteville; three nieces; peers and loving staff at the Riddle Center; and special friend, Dawn P. Crawford of Lenoir.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date at the Covenant Chapel at the Riddle Center in Morganton.

CONCORD, NC - Mrs. Hazel Ward Morris, 78, of 5943 Davidson Highway, died Friday, December 23, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Frady officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2005, at Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Mrs. Morris was born May 14, 1927, in Georgia, the daughter of the late Otis and Velma Ward. She was a retired employee of Fieldcrest Cannon Mills and a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church (A.R.P.).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey G. Morris, Sr.; and a sister Winnell Cullter.
Survivors include a son Harvey G. Morris Jr. and wife, Ann, of Concord; a sister, Shirley Davenport of Charlotte; three brothers Delbert and Fred Ward, both of Charlotte, and C.E. Ward of Concord; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Raymond Franklin Pethel

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Raymond Franklin Pethel, 78, a resident of Five Oaks Manor, Concord, and formerly of Morningside Court in Kannapolis, died Friday, December 23, 2005, at Five Oaks Manor.
A graveside service with interment to follow will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, December 24, 2005, at Carolina Memorial Park. Dr. Joe Crawford will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at their respective homes.
Born December 8, 1927, in Iredell County, Mr. Pethel was a son of the late Henderson Ray Pethel and Willie Murdock Pethel. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and retired in 1991 from the Dye Department of Fieldcrest-Cannon, Plant One. He was US Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of Poston Perkins VFW Post 8989. He was also a member of Allen Graham Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Selma Cody Pethel; a daughter, Dianne Biggerstaff and husband, Tony, of Kannapolis; a step-son, Steve Chambers and wife, Peggy, of Concord; one sister, Edna P. Sipes of Kannapolis; a brother, Ray J. Pethel and wife, Susie, of San Antonio, TX; one granddaughter, Kristen Logan and husband, David, of Kannapolis; two step-granddaughters, Sherri Christy and husband, Nathan, and Misty Little and husband, Clint, both of Mt. Pleasant; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Junior Ray Keller

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Junior Ray Keller, 79, of 2406 Moose Road, Kannapolis, died Sunday, August 27, 2006, at the Brian Center of Salisbury.
Graveside services with interment to follow will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2006, at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. Leon Hawks will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of a daughter, Brenda Stirewalt, 202 W. 17th Street, Kannapolis.
Born September 24, 1926, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Ernest Ray Keller and Gracie Mae Moore Keller. He was formerly employed with Charlotte Ford Tractor and Cannon Mills.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hooper Keller, who died October 24, 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Stirewalt of Kannapolis, Nancy Biggerstaff of Rockwell; a son, Guy Biggerstaff of Kannapolis; nine grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
