FLOYD CLYDE ANDREWS

Floyd Clyde Andrews, 72, of 4829 Grafton Road, died Monday, August 2, 2004 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

funeral service will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at McLeansville Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Mr. Andrews was born in Chatham County. He retired from Edgecomb Steel Company after 29 years of service. He sang with the Gethsemane Quartette for 44 years and sang Gospel music for 55 years. He was a faithful member of McLeansville Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie B. (Penny) Andrews: son, Ted Mark Andrews and his wife Cindy, of Greensboro; grandchildren, Madison Whitney Andrews and Chelsea Nicole Andrews, both of Greensboro. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Etta Hardison; Effie Kendricks; Mildred Hawks; Ruby Fields, and Lessie Harris; brothers, Merd Andrews; Lonnie Andrews; James Andrews; Roy Andrews, and Riley Andrews.

The family received friends at McLeansville Baptist Church Wednesday night from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of McLeansville Baptist Church, 5205 Frieden Church Road, McLeansville, NC 27301.

MARGARET RUTH CAPPS

Margaret Ruth Capps, 84, formerly of Silver Spring, MD, died Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at her residence in Colfax, N.C.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 4 at 7 pm at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Reverend Ted Craddock. Interment will follow on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Raleigh National Cemetery, Rock Quarry Rd, Raleigh, N.C.

Mrs. Capps was born January 29, 1920 in Greensboro, N.C., the only child of George Rufus and Ada Lou (Nall) Benfield. Mrs. Capps graduated from Siler City High School in 1937 and from King's Business College (Greensboro) in 1938. She worked for the National Institutes of Health as an administrative assistant in Bethesda, MD for many years, until she retired at the age of 74 in 1994.

Until her move to North Carolina in 2000, Mrs. Capps was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star (Rockville and Kensington, Md chapters) serving as worthy Matron 1986-1987, and of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association. She was a lifelong Methodist, and in later years before her move, was a faithful member of her church, the Interfaith Chapel in Silver Spring, MD.

She will be remembered by her family as a loving mother and grandmother, and by her many friends in Maryland as a tireless worker for their charities and a kind and supportive friend.

Mrs. Capps is survived by her two daughters, Jane Capps Craddock and husband Rev. Ted Craddock, and Nancy Ellen Capps, both of High Point; 4 grandchildren, Julie Craddock Patton and husband Dan of High Point, Lara Craddock Craven and husband Jeff, of Apex, Christine Harrison Grant, of Greensboro, and David W. Harrison of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Ruth Capps Cooke, of Browns Summit and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 34 years in 1975, Worth I. Capps, US Navy retired, also originally from Guilford County.

The family received friends and family Wednesday, August 4, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home.

TREVA PREVATTE SMITH

Treva Prevatte Smith, 64, of 1408 McArthur St., Lumberton, N.C. died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Floyd Memorial Chapel with Rev. Archie Prevatte and Rev. Bobby Phillips officiating. Burial followed at Floyd Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Women's Missionary Prayer Fellowship at Newgate Community Church. She encouraged others through her card ministry. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wade and Voline Prevatte.

Survivors include her husband, Charles J. Smith of the home; two sons, Jay Smith, of the home, Bobby Smith and wife Michelle of Oak Island, N.C.; two sisters, Frances Britt and husband, Wayne and Pat Nobles and husband Johnny, both of Lumberton: and many other family members and special friends.

Memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720.

MARY HELEN CHASON NANCE

Mary Helen Chason Nance, 85, of Siler City died Sunday, (07-25-2004) at Laurels of Chatham, Pittsboro.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, (07-28-2004) at 11 am at the First Baptist Church, Siler City with Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.

Mrs. Nance was a native of Robeson County and a graduate of Elon College. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in Chatham County (Bonlee and Paul Braxton) for 28 years. She was a member of the N.C. Alpha Zeta of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teachers Society and the N.C. Retired Teachers Association. Mary Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Fidelis Sunday School Class and the Sue Andrew Group.

Surviving is a brother, Billy F. Chason of Fayetteville.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 314 North Second Avenue, Siler City, N.C. 27344.

LULA THOMAS SHAW

Lula Thomas Shaw, 89, of 720 Pete Thomas Road, Pittsboro died Friday, July 23, 2004 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2004 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Shelby Stephens, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Shaw was born in Chatham County. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she was a former member of the choir and the W.M.U.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt Shaw; parents, Edward Romie and Arrie Buckner Thomas; sisters, Zelma Marley and Mable T. Jones; and brothers, Jiles Thomas, Earl Thomas, Chapin Thomas and Edward Loy Thomas.

Surviving are a sister, Mary T. Johnson of Pittsboro and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 5043 Mt. Olive Church Road, Pittsboro, N.C. 27312.

WILLIAM MOOREFIELD “Mo” PUCKETT

Mr. William Moorefield “Mo” Puckett, 83 of Pittsboro, died Wednesday (07-21-2004).

Services for Mr. Puckett were held at 11 a.m. Friday (07-23-2004) at Pittsboro United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Page officiating. Burial followed at 1:30 at Wake Chapel Christian Church Cemetery in Fuquay-Varina.

A native of Raleigh, he graduated from the University of North Carolina after which he served in the U.S. Navy . As a registered pharmacist, he owned and operated Tar Heel Drug Company of Pittsboro. He was a member of Pittsboro United Methodist Church, the Men’s Sunday School Class, served on the North Moore School Board, a member of the Lions Club, and a member of the original Board of First Bank.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Williams Puckett; daughter, Miranda P. Roberts of Roanoke, Va.; sons, Bill Puckett of Boulder, CO, and Danny Puckett of Pittsboro; sister, Eleanor A. Howard of Fuquay-Varina; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Pittsboro United Methodist Church, The Council on Aging of Chatham County, or to UNC Hospice, PO Box 1077, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

CHARLES WILFRED HAMM

Charles Wilfred Hamm, 81, of 4263 Mann's Chapel Road, Chapel Hill died Monday, July 19, 2004 at UNC Hospitals.

Service was held at 2 p.m., July 22, 2004 at University Presbyterian Church with Robert Dunham officiating. The family received friends after the service.

Hamm was a native of Derry, N.H. and was born on September 20, 1922. He was the son of the late Eugenie Marie Hudson and Charles Franklin Hamm. He was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry. Charles was a member of the University Presbyterian Church, American Legion, V.F. W., and the Forty and Eight organization. He served his country for ten years and retired after 31 years with AT&T.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; two sons, Charles and David; daughter-in-law Ellen; and six grandchildren, Charles, Jeremy, Melissa, Catherine, Elizabeth, and Allison.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Thornwell Home for Children, PO Box 60, Clinton, S.C. 29325-9972.

DONALD ELLIS KLOMPARENS

Master Donald Ellis Klomparens, was born and died Wednesday, (06-16-2004) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Survivors include his parents, Aaron Blake and Michelle Simmons Klomparens; brothers, Jacob Klomparens; grandparents, Vicki and Terry Klomparens and Lori and Brian Simmons, all of Pittsboro; and his great-grandparents, Helen Stoops and Bobby Ellis, both of Pittsboro.

Those wishing to honor Donald’s memory are asked to make memorial donations to The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina, 3803-B Computer Drive, Suite 108, Raleigh, NC 27609.

JOHNNY R. GEORGE

Johnny Russell George, 65, of Ramseur, died Thursday (06-17-2004) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, (06-20-2004) at Brown’s Chapel Christian Church with Rev. James Brewer and Rev. Vince Holder, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

George was a native of Moore County and had been employed with Cherokee Brick Company.

Survivors include wife, Mary Ellis George of the home; sons, Johnny R. George, Jr. of Ramseur and Mark George of Asheboro; daughters, Penny Ellis of Ramseur, Dale Valentin of Siler City; brothers, Harvey George of Pittsboro, Joseph George of Moncure, and Junior George of Sanford; sisters, Hazel Woods of Moncure and Wanda Harrell of Sanford; and eight grandchildren.

TAMMY LYNN HOLT TIGHE

Tammy Lynn Holt Tighe, 26, of Siler City died at Chatham Hospital Saturday (06-19-2004).

Funeral services were held at 11 am Wednesday, (06-23-2004) at Center United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Farmer and Rev. Dale Shackleford officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Lee County.

Survivors include a daughter, Destiny Marie Markwell; parents, Michael Lee Holt and Ginger Leigh Logan Holt of Sanford; maternal grandfather, Herman Logan, and fiancée, Eugene Simmons of Siler City.

RALPH DAVID BOWDEN

Ralph David Bowden, 46, of Greensboro died Monday (06-07-2004) at Wesley Long Hospital.

Funeral services were held Friday (06-11-2004) at 3 pm at Rocky River Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Jeffries officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Bowden was a native of Chatham County, formerly of Siler City, a member of Oliver’s Chapel AME Church, and was employed at K-Mart Distribution Center.

Survivors include sisters, Nancy Headen, Swepsonville, Priscilla Foxx, Judy Bowden, Mary Bowden, Barbara Coltrane, Anita Hodnett, all of Liberty; brothers, Harold, Bruce, and Dwight Bowden, all of Siler City, William Bowden and Sam Bowden, both of Hillsboro; and step-mother, Gladys Rogers Bowden.
