GUY GOLDSTON DARK, SR.
Guy Goldston Dark, Sr., 90, of 2325 Solar Plaza Drive, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida died Thursday, December 15, 2005.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Siler City with Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Dark was a native of Chatham County, a member of First Baptist Church, Siler City which he attended along with the Church by the Sea, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He attended Siler City High School and was retired from the Martien Electrical Company of Cleveland, Ohio. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union #38 for 65 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. Dark and Emma Bray Dark and a son, Guy Dark, Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Irene Horvath Dark of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; loving daughter, Darlene A. Dark of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; son-in-law, Robert Freudeman; brothers, Nick B. Dark, J. Ralston Dark, both of Siler City; sister, Nydia D. Kemp of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, G.G. Dark, III of Raleigh, Charlene Dark of Raleigh, Alissa Dark-Freudeman and husband, Jason Fleming of Gainesville; and many nieces and nephews.

JAMES LAMBE BREWER
James Lambe Brewer died December 20, 2005 at North Carolina Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill from compli-cations of diabetes and congestive heart failure.
Visitation will be at First United Methodist Church, 1191 West Raleigh Street, Siler City, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2005. A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2005, with the Rev. Mike Sykes and the Rev. Travis Owen officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, North Chatham Avenue, Siler City.
James was born on April 19, 1928, in Siler City to Curtis C. Brewer, Sr. and Mabel Lambe Brewer. He graduated from Siler City High School and then attended Duke University, where he became a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and played on the varsity golf team.
Upon graduation from Duke, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1955. He returned to Siler City and organized Brewer Realty and Insurance Company, a company that will observe 50 years in business in early 2006.
James was active in charitable, business, social, government, religious, and civic organizations and gave generously of his time and efforts to improve his community.
Mr. Brewer served as president of the Siler City Jaycees and as district vice president of the North Carolina Jaycees. He was chosen as Siler City’s Young Man of the Year in 1961.
He was elected to the Siler City Board of Commissioners and served from 1963-67. He also served on the town’s first Planning Board and on the Chatham County Board of Elections, as well as vice-chairman of the Chatham County Industrial and Pollution Control and Financing Authority.
He joined the Siler City Rotary Club in 1962, which he served as president and was chosen as a Paul Harris Fellow. Over the years he was instrumental in the Rotary’s fundraising efforts for the Chatham Hospital and its Scholarship Fund.
James was a lifelong and third generation member of the First United Methodist Church in Siler City, where he devoted much of his time and talent. He served as Superintendent of the Sunday School, Chairman of the Administrative Board; member of the Sanford District Board of Trustees from 1979-1990; and as a member of the board of the Methodist Home for Children - Raleigh - for four years. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for over 20 years and served on the church Building Committee during the church’s reconstruction.
Mr. Brewer was a charter member of the Siler City Country Club, serving as president for four separate terms. He was also one of the organizers and developers of Carolina Trace in Sanford and served as director from 1970-1986.
James sat on the local board of directors of First Union National Bank for 28 years and on the board of Allied Bank Capital/Summit Savings Bank, until its merger with First Citizens Bank in 1995. He served as a director and chairman of the Executive Committee.
James was very appreciative of the Chatham Hospital in our community. He devoted 35 years on its board and served as president for 8 terms. Upon his retirement from that board, he was recognized for years of valuable service.
He was one of the organizers, a charter member, and past president of the Chatham County Board of Realtors. He has been a longtime member of the board of the Farmer’s Alliance Store. James was also a board member of Pine Forest, Inc., developers, and served as its president from 1996 until his death.
In September of 1996, Brewer was presented the "Distinguished Citizen Award" by the Chatham County Chamber of Commerce for his love and devotion to the betterment of his community.
Upon his retirement from active participation in his company, James enjoyed spending much of his time at Myrtle Beach with his family and the friends he made there. He served on the board and as president of the Homeowners Association of his condominium complex in 2002 and 2003.
James enjoyed gardening and working in his yard, but golf was his lifelong passion. He was a fierce competitor and won many golf tournaments over the years. He also loved Duke University, where he was a charter member of the Iron Dukes and remained active and interested in Duke Athletics, especially Duke basketball.
James Brewer has served in many capacities, but that of which he was most proud was his family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Smith Brewer of the home; his daughter, Jennifer Brewer McBee and her husband Mark of Siler City; his son Jeff and his wife Stephanie of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; his daughter-in-law Janet M. Brewer of Siler City; eight grandchildren, Ashley Brewer and her husband Brian Brewer; Blair Brewer; Curt and Anna McBee of Siler City; Mary Brewer of Salisbury; Calver, Christopher, and Addison Brewer of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; and one great-grandchild, Harrison Brewer of Siler City.
James was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, C.C. and Donald, and a son, James L. (Jimmy) Brewer, Jr.
James Lambe Brewer was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, as well as a loyal and faithful friend. He will be remembered and missed.

JACK BRYAN GREER
Jack Bryan Greer, 70, of Siler City died Thursday, (12-08-2005) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Entombment services and burial were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, (12-10-2005) at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion, Va., with Rev. Robert A. Griffith officiating.
Mr. Greer was a native of Grayson County, Va., attended Fellowship Baptist Church, and was a member of Masonic Lodge #409. He was vice-president of Basic Machinery, Inc., and was widely known in the brick industry.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Shelton Greer of Siler City; sons, Steven Bryan Greer of Southport, Dennis Wayne Greer, Darren Mitchell Greer, both of Siler City; brother, Rex Greer of Atkins, Va.; sisters, Edith Cox, Vella Harmon, both of Marion, Va.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
FRANK EDWARD NALL
Frank Edward Nall, age 82, of Goldston died Thursday, (12-08-2005) at Sanford Health and Rehabilitation in Sanford.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, (12-11-2005) at Horseshoe Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Mitch Roginsky, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Nall was a native of Moore County, and a logger.
Mr. Nall is survived by his wife, Helen Parson Nall; daughters, Sue Gaines of Goldston, Vickie Atkins of Sanford; son, Ronnie Jackson of Siler City; sister, Gertrude Mitchell of Graham; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pall bearers were Adam Gaines, Josh Gaines, Chris Jackson, Clayton Atkins, Darius Davis, and Brent Riddle.
STEPHEN WARDELL SHARP
Stephen Wardell Sharp, 45, of Pittsboro, died Monday, (11-14-2005) at his residence.
Memorial services were held Saturday, (12-10-2005) at 7 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
Mr. Sharp, former resident of Ahoskie, served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the Reserve. He received his Agriculture Engineering degree from A&T State University in Greensboro. He worked for the State of North Carolina Emergency management as site and construction engineer for the division of temporary housing, helping hurricane victims.
Survivors include his daughter, Stephanie Sharp of Lexington; brothers, Quintin, Donald of Ahoskie; Eric of Alexandria, VA., Ronald Sharp of Ahoskie; sister, Tamira Ortiz of Chesapeake, VA.; mother, Frances Sharp of Ahoskie; and grandmother, Jeanette Moore.
MARGARET LUCILLE NEWBY
Mrs. Margaret Lucille Newby, 76, of Pittsboro died Tuesday, (12-06-2005) at the Laurels of Chatham.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, (12-11-2005) at Holy Trinity U.H.C., Siler City with Rev. Samuel Obie officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Newby was a homemaker and member of Holy Trinity United Holy Church.
Survivors include daughter, Rosezetta Manuel of the home; sons, Steve Newby, Arnold Newby, Alex Newby, all of Siler City; brother, John Currie, sisters, Beulah Lee, Martha Lutterloh, Elmer Person, all of Siler City; and 18 grandchildren.
BENJAMIN “RALPH” BRADY
Mr. Benjamin “Ralph” Brady, 86, of Bennett died Sunday, (12-11-2005) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (12-13-2005) at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Austin and Rev. Herbert Lowry, Jr., officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Brady was a native of Chatham County, retired from Townsends, a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where he was former caretaker of the cemetery.
Survivors include daughters, Beckie Brady Langley of Staley, Carol Brady Smith of Bennett; sister, Mrs. Ometa Page of Bear Creek; bother, Howard Brady of Bennett; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

LEA HELEN R. GODWIN
Lea Helen R. Godwin, 65, of Snow Camp, died Friday, (12-09-2005) at Chatham Hospital.
Graveside services and burial were held at 2 p.m. Monday, (12-12-2005) at Rives Chapel Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Larry Soblotne officiating.
Mrs. Godwin was a native of Chatham County and a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Richard Allen Godwin, Jr.; brother, Kenny Ritter of Burlington; and one grandson.

MARGARET BURNS EVERWINE
Margaret Burns Everwine, 82, of Bear Creek, died Saturday, (12-10-2005) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Graveside services and burial were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, (12-13-2005) at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Goldston.
Mrs. Everwine was a native of Philadelphia, PA., and was a cook for SunBridge Care in Siler City.
Survivors include daughters, Geneva E. Gordon of High Falls; Dorothy E. Josey of Bear Creek; son, William Everwine of Bear Creek; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
ROGER ALEX BARTH
Roger Alex Barth, 50, of Siler City died Thursday, (12-08-2005).
Funeral services were held Monday (12-12-2005) at the First Wesleyan Church with Rev. Kevin Stumbo officiating. Burial followed at Chatham Memorial Park.
Mr. Barth was a native of Chatham County and a carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Arleen Olson Barth of Siler City; daughters, Heather B. Rivera of Ft. Hood, TX., Jennifer B. Sweet of Mt. Pleasant, TX., Holly Barth, Haven Barth, both of the home; parents, Vernon and Virginia Cockman Barth of Siler City; brothers, Michael Barth of Carrboro, Terry Barth of Siler City; sister, Brenda B. Walters of Bear Creek; step-daughters, Jacquline Wilson of Warrenburg, MO., Danielle Pender of Siler City; five grandchildren and two step-granddaughters.
