ALAN DALE GARNER
Alan Dale Garner, 56, of Ramseur, died Saturday, (05-12-2012) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, (05-16-2012) at Deep River Baptist Church, with Rev. Boyd Jackson and Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A native of Randolph county, he was employed with Dixie Sheet Metal in Asheboro and a member of the Deep River Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Garner, and brother, Wade Lynn Garner.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa Freeman Garner; sons, Matthew Culberson of Ocean Springs, MS, Andrew Culberson of Bear Creek; mother, Bettie Gaines of Ramseur; sister, Darlene Coble of Seagrove; brothers, Richard Garner of Ramseur, Joe Garner of Greensboro; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Deep River Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 8528 NC Hwy. 42 S., Ramseur, NC 27316.

WALTER HACKNEY
Mr. Walter Hackney, 48 of Chapel Hill died Sunday (05-06-2012) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held Saturday (05-12-2012) at 6 p.m. at Knotts Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsboro with Rev. Stanley Burnett officiating.

He was a construction worker for 15 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary A. Hackney; daughters, Mae Mangum of Garner, Ashley Magnum of Apex, Wysett Mangum of Fuquay Varina; step-son, Michael Harrington; step-daughter, Courtney Griffin; mother, Ms. Carrie Hackney of Moncure; sisters, Gloria Rodgers of Pittsboro, LaVerne Burnette of Moncure; bothers, Clarence and Kenneth Hackney of Siler City.

DORIS ANN GIBSON
Doris Ann Gibson, 54, of Siler City died Monday, (05-14-2012) at her residence.

A memorial service was held Saturday, (05-19-2012) at 1 p.m. at Church of Jesus Apostolic Faith with Rev. Bobby Gibson and Rev. Mike Crosby officiating.

Mrs. Gibson was born in Greensboro on November 7, 1957, the daughter of Winford Reece and Valley (Sartin) Gibson. She was employed as a CNA at Siler City Care & Rehab and attended the Church of Jesus of Apostolic Faith in Siler City.

Survivors include a daughter, Penny Renee Cody of Siler City, son, Tommy Guthrie of Siler City; sister, Judy Mabe of Pleasant Garden; brothers, Bobby Gibson of Siler City, David Gibson of Staley, Wayne Gibson of Atlantic Beach; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

MYRTLE B. COBLE TEAGUE
Myrtle B. Coble Teague 92, of 4712 Lewis Brown Road, Bennett, passed away Monday, May 7, 2012 at Moses Cone Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church where she was a member with Rev. Mark Strickland and Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Teague was a Chatham County native, a homemaker and had been a greeter at Wal-Mart. She was the oldest living member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Ina Jackson Bray Brown. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Denson Coble and husband Guy Teague, son-in-law, Eugene Hammer.

Mrs. Teague is survived by daughters, Betty Jones and husband Howard, Clara Hammer, Mildred Tally and husband Larry, all of Bennett; sons, Ray Coble and wife Genie of Bear Creek, David Coble and wife Sandra of Bennett; brothers, Coy Brown and wife Fern of Bear Creek, Colon Brown and wife Inez of Bear Creek, Norman Brown and wife Mary Lee of Bennett; grandchildren, Deborah Threatt, Kenneth Jones, Kim Fuquay, Tony Hammer, Tonda Pless, Annette Willett, Steven Coble, Wayne Coble, Deanna Culberson, Darlene Suits, Lisa Collins, Greg Tally; 24 great-grandchildren; step-son, Julian Teague and wife Jane of Bennett, step-daughter, Aletha Lanier and husband Richard of Marston; step-grandchildren, Maurice Teague, Cynthia Johnson, Lynn Agee, Ricky Lanier; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Wednesday May 9, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel, 3833 Chatham Street, Bennett, NC 27208 and other times at the home of her daughter, Mildred Tally, 4747 Lewis Brown Road, Bennett, NC 27208.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery Fund, 5946 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Bennett, NC 27208.

Joyce-Brady Chapel is serving the Teague family.

MARY RUTH S. HISSONG
Mary Ruth Smith Hissong, 68, of Henderson, died Wednesday, (05-09-2012) at Kerr Lake Nursing & Rehab Center.

Graveside services were held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Sunset Gardens by the Rev. Marshall Neathery.

Born in Chatham County on May 22, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Allen Smith and Mary Frances Ivey Smith. She was a 1961 graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School and a retired paralegal.

She is survived by daughters, Teen H. Floyd and Kim H. Hunt of Henderson; sons, Jeff Hissong of Wake Forest, Bill Hissong of Henderson; sister, Peggy S. Ellington of Siler City; brother, Al Smith of Siler City; and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 914, Henderson, NC 27536 or to the Lupus Foundation of America, 2000 L. Street, N.W. Suite 410, Washington, DC 20036.

DARIEN KEITH HOLT
Darien Keith Holt, 46, of Underwood Road, Siler City died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at his residence as his friends gathered at a benefit in his honor.

Holt was born in Chatham County on September 12, 1965 the son of Billy Dolton and Ruby (Ellis) Holt. Darien attended the First United Methodist Church of Siler City, served in the US Coast Guard and worked for Liles Plumbing for over 24 years. He was a member of the 26th NC Troops Civil War Re-enactors, Col. John R. Lane Society. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Dolton Holt; brothers, Barry D. Holt and Billy Randall Holt.

He is survived by his wife, Kim Cheek; one daughter, Autumn Holt both of the home; mother, Ruby Ellis Holt; one sister, Susan Holt Helmer and husband, Stephen of Siler City; nieces, Stephanie Holt Helmer and husband, Wes Lail of Goldston; and Sarah Helmer of Jamestown, NC.

The family received friends Tuesday, May 15, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.

The funeral was held Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City with Rev. Clyde Denny officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.

Memorials may be made to West Chatham Relay for Life, c/o Betty Terry, 519 South Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.

MARJORIE FOX BARKER
Marjorie Elizabeth Barker passed from this world to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on May 14, 2012. Her life was a witness for Christ through her spiritual gift of encouragement. Her gentle humble personality was enjoyed by her family, friends and everyone who had contact with her. Margie was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, Siler City, where she served for many years as a preschool Sunday School teacher.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Coley H. Fox and Pearl Johnson Fox, and husband James M. (Chunk) Barker, all of Siler City. Her brothers and sister Glen, Banks, Bobby, Thomas Fox and Clarice Hinshaw have also preceded her.

She will be sadly missed by her son Steve Barker, his wife Rosemary of Knoxville, TN and her grandchildren Kurt Barker and Karla Barker of Nashville, TN. Steve, Rosemary, Kurt and Karla were the joy of her life.

Frank and Gary Hinshaw and their wives Shelby and Patsy were special nephews who shared many happy times with Margie. Margie had many special friends who shared life with her. Margie was wise to know that things are not important. She did not get excited about possessions but valued relationships. Her friends shared in her joys and troubles, these friends gave Margie happiness.

Her family and friends praise God for her life and have joy knowing she is with Jesus.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 18, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City with Rev. Clyde Denny officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 212, Siler City, NC 27344.

LOTHAR HUGO AUGUST VOLLER
Major Lothar (Lot) August Hugo Voller, 71, of Pittsboro, North Carolina died in his home on May 13th. Lot was born on January 23, 1941 in Frankfort, Germany to Herta Katharina Ziefer Voller and Moritz Adolf Voller. He was raised in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1954 where he attended St. Anne’s Academy in Fort Smith, Arkansas and graduated as the class salutatorian in 1959. He later graduated from the University of California, Berkley in 1963 and subsequently earned a Master’s Degree from the University of North Dakota in Economics.

He joined the United States Air Force through R.O.T.C. as a Second Lieutenant in 1963 and served actively until 1969. Lot received numerous commendations including two oak leaf clusters for flying 44 live combat missions on KC-135's in Vietnam. He served for a total twenty years in the Air National Guard and the U.S.A.F. Reserves, where he was the liaison officer for the United Air Force Academy. He retired with the final rank of Major.

In 1969, he began his career at Inland Steel Company as an industrial engineer and retired as the head of that department in 1990. He is past President of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (I.I.E.), a global non-profit serving industrial engineering and lean six-sigma management. He was also involved with the domestic and international steel industry where he finished his career with Trade Arbed.

In 1995, he and his son, Randolph Voller, co-founded Voller Realty & Construction, Ltd., which brokered properties and designed and developed real estate. The firm developed both Daniel Ridge in North Chatham County and Chatham Forest in Pittsboro. Lot was very proud to witness the subsequent economic growth in Pittsboro, which resulted in part from the development of Chatham Forest. Subsequently, as the owner of Morris Rowland Construction Services, LLC., Lot took part in the construction of the DSS building in Pittsboro, Virginia Cross Elementary School in Siler City and the renovation of the old Wicker School in Sanford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Diane Nygaard Danning and former New York Giant catcher Harry “the Horse” Danning, and his granddaughter, Lily McCoy Voller. He leaves behind his son, Pittsboro Mayor Randolph Stefan Voller (Lesley Landis), and daughters Meredith Katerina Voller, and Cynthia Anne Voller. He was married forty-seven years to his former wife, Viktoria Danning Voller. He is also survived by a sister Ursula Voller Alban and a brother Eddie Short.

Lot lived to the fullest the class motto from St. Anne’s Academy which was “not merely to exist, but to amount to something in life.”

A celebration of life will be held at Hall Wynne Funeral Home, Pittsboro on Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Greater Pittsboro Community Development Corp., Inc. in the name of “Lot Voller” at any Capital Bank branch or at Post Office Box 1758, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

JUDY ANN MAULDIN McNEIL
Judy Ann Mauldin McNeil departed this life on Tuesday, May 8, 2012. She was a courageous and loving mother, sister, aunt and friend.

Judy was born in Siler City on August 22, 1955 to the late Claude and Mozelle Siler Mauldin. Judy graduated from Jordan-Matthews High School in 1973. She worked as a Systems Administrator for the Federal Government for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Howard Dark and John Jr. Mauldin and sisters, Myrtle Scotton and Mozella Rogers (Gerry) .

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Phillip Mitchell (Diana); sisters, Claudia Graves, Daisy Barton (Walter), Ruth Foxx (Carl); brother, Kerney Mauldin and a host of other dear family and friends. She also leaves behind special friends Terisa Walker (Leforice), Stephanie Porter (Harrison), and Jerry Cook.
AUDREY BREWER CRAVEN
Audrey Brewer Craven, 82, of Troy Caveness Road, Ramseur died Monday, May 14, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Craven was born in Chatham County on May 11, 1930, the daughter of William B. and Dora (Phillips) Brewer. She was the owner/operator of Mayberry Ice Cream Shoppe for numerous years and also operated Craven Realty. She grew up attending Providence Independent United Methodist Church. Audrey was preceded in death by daughters, Nancy Robbins, Ann Vetter and a son, Dickie Robbins.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Craven; one daughter, Susan Dudek and husband, Stan of Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Ariel Vetter of Asheville, Ashley Robbins of Raleigh, Lauren Robbins of Raleigh, Stephen Dudek and wife, Noelle of Greensboro, Jennifer Mason and husband, Allen of Jacksonville, FL, Jordan Craven of Jacksonville, FL; step-sons, Michael Craven and wife, Debbie of Jacksonville, FL, Larry Craven and wife, Helen of Ramseur; great-grandchildren, Jayden Robbins and Ella Mae Mason.

The family received friends Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the church from 3 to 4 p.m.. The funeral was held Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 4 p.m. at Providence Independent Methodist Church, 905 Providence Church Road, Siler City with Rev. Brian Caldwell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Providence Independent Methodist Church, 1170 Bonlee-Bennett Road, Siler City, NC 27344 or to Hospice of Randolph County, P O Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home assisted the family.

PAYNE COLLINS
Payne Collins, 82, of Siler City died Tuesday, (05-01-2012) at Coventry House of Siler City.

A memorial service was held Friday, (05-04-2012) at 11 a.m. at Piney Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Folks officiating.

Mr. Collins was born in Halifax County on June 30, 1929, the son of William Thomas and Hattie (Jones) Collins. He owned and operated the Copper Penny Restaurant for 31 years. Payne was a member of the Piney Grove United Methodist Church, the Adult Sunday School Class and had served as chairman of the Board of Trustees. Payne was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Teague Collins.

Survivors include his wife, Judy (Johnson) Collins; sons, Ronald Payne Collins of Siler City, William Randall (Randy) Collins of Pittsboro; two grandsons; and step-son, Michael Paisley of Clayton.
Memorials may be made to Piney Grove United Methodist Church, 2343 Piney Grove Church Road, Siler City, NC 27344.
