LENA FRANCIS BECK

Lena Francis Beck, 84, of Siler City died Tuesday (06-21-2011) at Siler City Care and Rehabilitation.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday (06-25-2011) at Gees Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Allen Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Ms. Beck was a native of Chatham County, a member of Gees Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, and retired from Oneida Plastics.

Survivors include daughters, Priscilla A. Jordan, Helen Mae Marsh, Carolyn M. Horton, Ada Mae Beck, all of Siler City, Betty Daniels of Sanford; sons, Charles Beck of Durham and Joe N. Beck of Ramseur.

HENNERY P. “RAEFORD” JORDAN

Hennery P. "Raeford" Jordan, 73, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2011 at UNC Hospital.

Mr. Jordan was born June 17, 1938 in Chatham County to Jack and Mamie Jones Jordan. He attended Paul Braxton School, served in the Navy, and was a retired truck driver. He then worked for Advance Auto as a delivery driver. He was a Nascar fan, enjoyed fishing and watching ball games on television. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Mamie Jordan; his beloved son, Raeford Todd Jordan; brother, Billy Wayne Jordan; and his faithful and loving companion, his canine, "Buddy".

Survivors include his wife, Kay S. Jordan of the home; sister-in-law, Virgie Jordan of Siler City; brother, Ronald Jordan of Siler City; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Rocky River Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Burriss officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Visitation was held Tuesday, June 28, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City.

PAUL MORRIS PLUMMER, SR.

Chapel Hill – Paul Morris Plummer Sr., 83, peacefully left this life on Friday, June 24, 2011 surrounded by family. Born December 14, 1927 in Guilford County to Mr. and Mrs. Stacy Frank Plummer, he moved to the White Cross community in 1939 with his parents and six brothers and sisters. Mr. Plummer attended Chapel Hill High School and served in the US Army in World War II.

December 24, 1948, he married the love of his life, Miss Dixie Mae Brockwell and together they had four sons and four daughters. Surviving are his wife, Dixie; son, Stacy Plummer and wife Ann, daughter Carol and husband David Gottlieb, daughter Miriam and husband David Apple, son Paul Morris Plummer Jr. and wife Phyllis, daughter Betsi Harris and husband Geoff, son Larry David Plummer, son Michael Plummer and girlfriend Tracy, daughter Jakki Plummer; thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy, Frank and sisters, Ella Mae, Yvonne, Dillya, Jewel, Octavia, and grandchildren Bryan and Adam.

Mr. Plummer was a wonderful father and husband and was loved by all who knew him. He worked almost his entire life as a master carpenter to raise his eight children, who will miss him dearly. His passion for life and integrity above all else served as a guiding light for his family and will continue to in the years ahead.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at Walker’s Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Antioch Baptist Church in White Cross. The family will receive friends at the church after the service.

A special thanks to Meadowlands Hospice for their wonderful care and support.

CAROL WELCH “TOOTSIE” PERRY

Carol Welch "Tootsie" Perry, 72, of 7122 Silk Hope-Gum Springs Road, Siler City, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at her home. She was the daughter of Carl L. and Pearl Brewer Welch, a native of Chatham County and a graduate of Bennett High School. She attended Asheboro Business School and retired from Alamance Eye Center. Tootsie was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class, the Adult Choir and held numerous other offices at the church. She enjoyed spending time working with flowers, gardening, cooking and decorating. An avid NC State fan, she was a "people person" who never met a stranger. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Judy W. Preslar.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, William Earl Perry; two sons, Jack Perry of Siler City, Chris Perry of Donalds, South Carolina; two sisters, Nanci W. Evans and husband, Ron of Siler City, Carlene W. Stevens and husband, Jimmy of Garner; one brother, Johnny Welch of Greensboro; special cousin, Sue Perry of Bear Creek; special friends, Sara Ellis of Mt Holly and Lucy Ingle of Siler City; brother-in-law, Waylon Preslar of High Falls.

The family received friends Wednesday, June 29, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.

The funeral will be Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 2 p.m.at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 3631 Mt. Vernon-Hickory Mountain Road, Siler City with Rev. Robert B. Way Jr. and Rev. Brian Wellborn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

AGNES JOANNA FARRELL CARAVIAS

Agnes Joanna Farrell Caravias, 86, of Pittsboro, died Wednesday (06-15-2011) at Care View Rest Home in Snow Camp.

A memorial service will be held in Cape Corral, FL at a later date.

Mrs. Caravias was born in Pittsboro April 26, 1925, the daughter of the late Paul Thompson Farrell and Maggie Davis Perry Farrell. A graduate of Pittsboro High School, after college she worked at the Pentagon in Washington, DC in a classified position until retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter Caravias; ten brothers and sisters including Horace Perry Farrell.

JULE BRYAN HACKNEY

Graveside services for Jule Bryan Hackney of Moncure will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday (06-25-2011) at Haywood Independent Bible Church (Formerly Haywood Presbyterian Church), Haywood Road, Moncure.

VIRGINIA ESTELLE BRAY

Virginia Estelle Bray, 65, of Siler City died Friday, (06-17-2011).
Ms. Bray was born February 22, 1946, the daughter of Jesse James and Mary (McLean) Bray. She was a native of Halifax, VA. and had been employed by Chatham Trades.

She is survived by a sister, Alice Marie Champion of China Grove; four brothers, J. T. Bray, John Will Bray, James Thomas Bray all of China Grove, and Ernest Bray of South Boston, VA.

Graveside service was held Monday, (06-20-2011) at 11 a.m. at Chatham Memorial Park, with Rev. Sue Flippin officiating.

HUGH GIBSON GOODMAN

Hugh Gibson Goodman of Pittsboro died Sunday (06-19-2011) at his home.

Mr. Goodman was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Goodman and Nora Goodman.

Survivors include his wife Mary Goodman; his son James Goodman; daughter Louene Wojtus; sisters, Eva Dorsett, Faye Barnville, Mary Sanders, Irma Ellis; 13 grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.

Visitation was held at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, Pittsboro, Wednesday (06-22-2011) from 7-9 p.m..

The service will be held at Hanks Chapel at 11 a.m. Thursday (06-23-2011) with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating.

WENDELL “Gino” BREWER

Wendell “Gino” Brewer, 53, of Siler City died Monday (06-13-2011) at the V.A. Hospital in Durham.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity United Holy Church, with Elder Samuel B. Obie and Rev. Barry Gray officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Brewer was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School and an Army veteran.

Survivors include his mother, Beulah Mae Brewer of the home; sister, Jacalyn B. Goldston of Siler City; brothers, Clarence R. Brewer of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Frank E. Brewer of the home, and Michael Spinks of Ramseur.

PARIS H. SMITH

Star - Paris Hurley "Red" Smith, 81, of 2434 US Hwy 220 N, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at First Health Moore Regional in Pinehurst.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2011, at Browns Chapel UMC, Pittsboro, with the Rev. Ray Gooch officiating.

Mr. Smith was born in Alamance County to Jesse Lewis and Della Marley Smith. He was a retired machine operator in furniture manufacturing. He was preceded in death by his wives, Arlene F. Smith and Emma McBride Smith; daughter, Susan Braxton; and grandson, Glenn Braxton, Jr.

Survivors include his step-son, Larry Lilly and wife Kathryn, of Star; step-daughter, Dianne Lilly Tucker of Myrtle Beach, SC; six grandchildren, Brian Braxton, Chris Braxton, Wendy Aderholt Berrios, Amy Wallace, Michael Aderholt, Hannah Lilly; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 6 - 8 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star and other times at the home.

Mr. Smith requested to have no flowers. Instead, please make memorials to the National MS Society, PO Box 4527, New York, NY 10163.

SYBRANT H. “SY” PELL

Sybrant H. "Sy" Pell, 94, of Goshen, formerly of Elkhart, Indiana, died at Indiana University Health, Goshen Hospital at 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. He moved to Elkhart in 1993 after living in Fayetteville, North Carolina for 30 years.

Sy was born January 21, 1917 in King, NC to John Herman and Bertie Mae (Forkner) Pell. On December 1, 1938, in Ramseur, NC, he married Vivian Wrenn. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2008.

He is survived by a daughter, Susan P. Ellington of Goshen, Indiana; two granddaughters, Carolyn Landreau (James) of Alpharetta, Georgia, Kendra Nafziger (Aaron) of Goshen, Indiana; his great-granddaughter, Alexandra Elise Landreau; and a sister, Golda Joyce (Charles) of Ramseur, NC.

In addition to his wife Vivian, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Kenneth Ellington III, and a sister, Marie Bray. He graduated from Ramseur High School and attended Elon College. Sy was district manager for Pilot Life for 11 years; he was also the proprietor of a moving and storage business for 16 years, selling the business in 1980. He is a member of First Presbyterian Church, Elkhart, Tyriann Lodge #718 Free and Accepted Masons, York Rite, Scottish Rite, and Mizpah Shrine. He held various stations in his Masonic journey such as: Past Master, Past District Deputy Grand Master and Worthy Patron in the Eastern Star. Sy worked as a civilian for the Navy department on the Battleship Alabama.

Friends called from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, where a Masonic service took place at 7 p.m. Funeral services were at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church, Elkhart. Rev. Steve Braden of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial took place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Vivian W. Pell Scholarship Fund in care of Elon University, 2030 Campus Box Elon, Elon University, NC 27244-2020.

ELASTER “BOOB” HUSSEY

Robbins - Elaster “Boob” Hussey, 91, of 2227 North. Howard Mill Road died Thursday June 16, 2011 at his home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday June 19, 2011 at Smyrna United Methodist Church where he was a member with Rev. Tal Madison officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Hussey was a Moore County native and the son of the late Jonah and Nancy Jane Brewer Hussey. He was retired from Carthage Fabrics and farming and was a member of the WOW. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie McNeill Hussey and a daughter, Ellen Deese.

Survivors include sons, Ronald Hussey and wife Kaye of Robbins. Tommy Lee Hussey and wife Debby of Bennett; grandchildren, Toni Cisneros of Carthage, Chasadi Mackey of Robbins, Megan Skjellerup of Robbins, four great-grand-children; brother, Richard Hussey and wife Ruth of Robbins.

The family was at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett from 6-8 p.m. Saturday June 18, 2011 and other times at the Ronald Hussey residence at 143 Acorn Ridge Road, Robbins, N.C. 27325
