LARRY WAYNE COCKMAN

Larry Wayne Cockman, 50, of 305 Eden Hills Road, Siler City went to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 17, 2011.

Mr. Cockman was born January 18, 1961, the son of William Ronald "Buddy" and Betty (Wicker) Cockman. He was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Jordan - Matthews High School, had attended several technical schools and was a self-employed diesel mechanic. He had worked at Welford Harris Ford in earlier years. He was a member of Tyson's Creek Baptist Church. Larry was good with his hands in assembly of electronic or mechanical models and was a fan of UNC sports. He was preceded in death by his father, William R. "Buddy" Cockman.

He is survived by two daughters, Alicia B. and Jessica E. Cockman; one son, William "Will" Cockman, all of Siler City; mother, Betty Wicker Cockman; grandchildren, Noah and Ada; and special friend, Karen.

Friends may register condolences at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.

The graveside service was held Sunday, June 19, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Tyson's Creek Baptist Church, 10891 Siler City-Glendon Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Scott Walker officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Family Life Center at Tyson's Creek Baptist Church, 10891 Siler City-Glendon Road, Bear Creek, NC 27207.

AILEEN STALEY POE

Aileen Staley Poe, 91, of 707 Red Oak Drive, Siler City, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation, Siler City.

Mrs. Poe was born April 5, 1920, the daughter of George and Doska (York) Staley. She was a native of Randolph County and retired from the Kellwood Company. She was a member of the Siler City Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Poe, Sr.

She is survived by one son, Robert "Bob" D. Poe, Jr. and wife, Vickie of Siler City; one grandson, Justin Dowd Poe and fiancée, Jennifer of Siler City.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Siler City Presbyterian Church, 720 W. 3rd St., Siler City, NC 27344.

RITA LOUISE JOHNSON

Rita Louise Johnson, 45, of 3023 Beech Tree, Lot 17, Sanford passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011 at her home.

Mrs. Johnson was a native of Cowpens, S.C., a member of Jonesboro Presbyterian Church and formerly worked at McDonalds Restaurant.

Survivors include daughter, Christy Johnson Jones and husband Aaron of Bennett; mother, Bonnie Pecham of Sanford; father, Boyd Childers of Westminster, S.C.; grandmother, Patricia Wilson of California; sisters, Tara Trusty of Gaffney, S.C., Tandy Slane and Lisa Rose of Sanford; brother, Boyd Childers, Jr. of Sanford; granddaughters, Hannah Dahn and Savannah Jones, both of Bennett.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett and other times at the home of her daughter, Christy Jones.

Memorials may be directed to Christy and Aaron Jones, 2388 Fall Creek Church Road,. Bennett, N.C. 27208 to help with final expenses.

There was a gathering of friends in the Sanford area from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2011 at the home of a sister, Tandy Slane, 502 North Vance St., Sanford.

CARL PHILIP IHME

Carl Philip Ihme, 83, of Old Sanford Road, Moncure, died Saturday evening, June 18, 2011 at Twin Rivers in Pittsboro.

Mr. Ihme was born in Detroit, Michigan and was the son of Carl Philip Ihme, Sr and Annie Lyon Cherry Ihme. He proudly served in the US Navy and worked as a food inspector for the USDA. Philip was an active Mason and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and wood carving. He was a loving husband, father and proud grandfather. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Annabel Ihme Butler; and brother-in-law, Joe Butler.

Philip is survived by his wife, Ernestine Pendergraft Ihme of 61 years; three sons; David Bruce Ihme and wife, Claudia of Ramseur, Jerry Lynn Ihme and wife, Beth of Rosman, Ernest Philip Ihme of Pittsboro; one daughter, Phyllis Ihme Williams and husband, Don of Chapel Hill; one brother, Cherry Lee Ihme and wife, Nidra of Gardendale, Alabama; seven grandchildren, David Ihme of Lewisville, Kevin Ihme of Greensboro, Shane Ihme of Rosman, Kristin Ihme Brown and husband, Josh of Rosman, Bradley Williams of Greensboro, Eric Williams of Chapel Hill, and Alex Williams of Chapel Hill.

The family received friends Tuesday, June 21, 2011 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hall-Wynne funeral service, Griffin Chapel. funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Chatham United Methodist Church. The Rev. Patrick Sinclaire and the Rev. Bill Gattis will preside. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be sent to Chatham UMC or UNC Hospice.

Arrangements were under the care of Hall-Wynne funeral service and Cremation, Pittsboro.

ARBY D. CAVINESS

Arby D. Caviness, 83, of 1309 Caviness Town Road, Robbins, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at his home.

funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Beulah Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Neal Jackson, Dr. Curtis Barbery, and Rev. Joey Greene officiating. Burial with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Caviness was a Moore County native, an Army veteran, and a retired attendant for Moore County Public Works. He was the son of the late John C. and Ada Hussey Caviness and the widower of Jessie Brady Caviness.

Survivors include daughter, Christine Caviness of the home; son, Paul Caviness and wife Donna of Robbins; step-daughters, Lorraine Wood and husband Thomas of Carthage, Jewel Jessup and husband Wayne of Asheboro, Yvonne Brady and husband Jimmie of Charlotte; step-sons, Charlie Brady and wife Kathy of Carthage, and Frank Brady and wife Linda of Bennett. Also surviving is a host of grandchildren and great-grand-children

Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett.

ELOIS KING OVERACRE

Elois King Overacre, 77, of 1463 McLaurin Road, Siler City died Monday, June 20, 2011 at her residence.

Mrs. Overacre was born February 17, 1934, the daughter of Oscar Robert and Emma (Pruett) King. She was born in Roanoke County, Virginia and a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church. She was the retired owner/operator of Elois' Restaurant of Bear Creek, having retired in July of 1999. She was preceded in death by two sons, John Wayne Overacre, Sydney Ervin Overacre; daughter, Emma Overacre; brothers, Robert, Bobby Lee, Preston King; and sister, Lucille King.

She is survived by two daughters, Lisa O. Gaines and husband, Phil Gaines, Jr. of Goldston, Kathy Sue Fedney and husband, Jimmy of Siler City; two sons, Dell Overacre and wife, Sherry of Siler City, Clayton Overacre and wife, Vickie of Siler City; grandson, Jonathan Overacre and wife, Angela of Siler City; five sisters, Irene K. Bibbs of Fincastle, VA, Lois K. Glass of Salem, VA, Linda K. Sly of Lynchburg, VA, Liddle K. Weddel of TX, Jane A Hale of Salem, VA; four brothers, Sanford King of Salem, VA, George King of Salem, VA, Roger King of WV, Junior King of Salem, VA; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Tuesday, June 21, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Rives Chapel Baptist Church, 4338 Rives Chapel Church Road, Siler City with Rev. Marc Sanders officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 1414 East Eleventh Street, Siler City, NC 27344.

MARY THERESA THOMPSON

7/20/58 – 6/14/11

Mary Theresa Thompson was born in Warner Robins Georgia to parents Leland L. Thompson and Theresa Mary Thompson.

Mary attended Fresno State University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. At the end of her career she worked for Raytheon Engineers and Constructors in Philadelphia, PA where she was Director of North American Operations for Validation and Compliance.

Mary is survived by her beloved companion Sarah Weil of Pittsboro; two brothers, Mike Thompson of Tokyo, Japan, Chris Thompson of Sacramento, CA; one niece, her best friend, Sara Harris of Pittsboro, and all of her animals that she so dearly loved.

LYNVILLE WALLACE PHILLIPS

Lynville Wallace Phillips, 72, of Siler City, died Monday, (06-06-2011) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held Saturday, (06-11-2011) at 11 a.m. at Loves Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Boyd and Rev. Roy Helms officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Phillips was born November 22, 1938, the son of William Gaston and Clarice Foster Phillips. He was a native of Chatham County and a graduate of Jordan Matthews High School. He worked at A. J. Schneierson and Sons as a pattern maker and later at Sew Special in Asheboro.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Dixon Phillips; sons, Lynn Phillips of Bear Creek, Jarrett Phillips of Asheboro; brother, Sherrill Phillips of Staley; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Loves Creek Baptist Church, 1745 East 11th Street, Siler City, NC 27344 or Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adam's Way, Randleman, NC 27317.

OMETER BRADY PAIGE

Ometer Brady Paige, 82, of Bear Creek died Friday, (06-10-2011) at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.

The funeral was held Sunday, (06-12-2011) at 2 p.m. at Oakley Baptist Church with Rev. J. R. Bouldin officiating. Burial was in Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Paige was born February 1, 1929, the daughter of Emmett Eugene and Alpharetta (Caviness) Brady. She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and a member of Oakley Baptist Church. Ometer was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Paige, Sr.

Survivors include daughters, Ann P. Johnson, Janice P. Hackney; son, Ralph Paige, Jr., all of Bear Creek; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

JAMES W. “JAY BIRD” HUMBLE

James Wade "Jay Bird" Humble, 83, of Ramseur, died Saturday, (06-11-2011) at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, (06-14-2011) at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, Ramseur with Dr. Buddy Smith and Pastor J. C. Miles officiating. Burial will follow at Whites Chapel United Methodist Church in Liberty.

Mr. Humble was a Randolph County native and a member of Whites Chapel United Methodist Church. He was retired from Allen's Hatchery in Liberty.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Millikan Humble, of the home; son, Clinton W. Humble of Ramseur; brother, Henry Cleo Humble, of Climax; one grandchild and two step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to, Hospice of Randolph County, PO Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204.

LOU ELMA BROWN KIDD

Lou Elma Brown Kidd, 82, of Ramseur, died Thursday, (06-09-2011) at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, (06-12-2011) at Maple Springs United Methodist Church in Ramseur, with Rev. John Williamson, and Rev. Edwin Moore, officiating.

Mrs. Kidd was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Estelle Siler Brown, husband, Norman Kidd, and a son, Michael Kidd.

Survivors include sons, Brent Kidd, Mark Kidd, both of Coleridge, Darrell Kidd of Mebane; sisters, Charlene Welch of Coleridge, Joy Patterson of Asheboro; two grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to, Randolph Hospice House, 446 Vision Dr., Asheboro, NC 27203.
