Jamestown – Reverend Otis Wiley Davis, 70, of 210 Amberwood Drive, died Wednesday March 16, 2005 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

funeral service will be Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 PM at Sedgefield Baptist Church. Interment will be at Guilford Memorial Park.

Reverend Davis was born in Guilford County. He was a graduate of Guilford College, and received his Master’s Degree at Southeastern Theological Seminary. He was the founding pastor of Sedgefield Baptist Church, where he served for over 18 years. Subsequent to his pastorate at Sedgefield, he served as pastor of New Bessemer Baptist Church. He was named Pastor Emeritus of both Sedgefield and New Bessemer Baptist Churches.

He was preceded in death by Miriam Davis, his first wife of 45 years.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Davis; son, Timothy O. Davis, of Jamestown; daughter, Sharon G. Davis, of Winston-Salem; sister, Evelyn Rice, of Greensboro; grandsons, Benjamin T. Davis, and William T. Davis.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sedgefield Baptist Church Building Fund, 6007 High Point Road, Greensboro, 27407, or to the Building Fund at New Bessemer Baptist Church, 4115 Hines Chapel Road, McLeansville, NC 27301.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of Sedgefield Baptist Church after the interment service on Saturday.

Forbis and Dick, North Elm Street Funeral Home is serving the Davis family.

THE REVEREND OSCAR LEE HARTIS, JR.

The Reverend Oscar Lee Hartis, Jr., 70, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at Wesley Long Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 19, at 1:00 p.m. at Guilford Baptist Church with Reverend Doug West of Guilford Baptist and LaDelle Kay of Longview, Texas officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park on High Point Road.

Oscar was born April 26, 1934 in Matthews, N.C. to Oscar and Zula Hartis. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Betty A. Hartis, sister Pauline H. Martin of Matthews, six children, Marilyn Hatcher-Franquiz of Columbia, SC, Gary Hartis and wife Brenda of Marion, NC, Randy Hartis and wife Carol of Hendersonville, Craig Hartis and wife Joni of Norwood, Mike Pugh and wife Andrea of Naperville, Il, Karen Apple of Greensboro, eleven grandchildren, Asheley, Laura and her husband Steve, Lauren, Brett, Adam, Jennifer, Matt, Brian, Lindsey, Megan, and Taylor. He was preceded in death by his son Mark, a brother and two sisters.

Oscar pastored churches throughout North and South Carolina. He also worked as a manager for Jefferson Pilot Insurance for 15 years. He was the Senior Adult Pastor for Guilford Baptist Church and trip coordinator for the seniors prior to his illness. He loved teaching and was an avid gardener. He also loved to travel as he and Betty traveled to Israel, Brazil, and many other locations.

Oscar courageously fought multiple myloma cancer for 4 years always keeping a sweet spirit and faith about him.

The family would like to thank all the staff at the Regional Cancer Center and Wesley Long Hospital with special thanks to Dr. Peter Rubin and Nurse Amy for their special care of Oscar.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 18, from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Regional Cancer Center of Moses Cone Health System, 501 N. Elam Ave., Greensboro, NC 27403-1199.

Mr. Basil "Nick" Sharpe, Sr.

funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday March 19, 2005 at Alamance Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Church Cemetery. Family being served by Forbis & Dick Pleasant Garden Chapel.

Mr. Basil "Nick" Artemus Sharpe, Sr., 89, died Wednesday March 16, 2005 at Moses Cone Hospital. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Alamance Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Sharpe was born in Guilford County on December 14, 1915 to the late John and Lucinda Jerrell Sharpe. He was the owner and operator of Sharpe’s Auto Parts for 35 years, and a member of Alamance Presbyterian Church. His wife, Geneva "Jerry" Albright Sharpe, preceded him in death.

Surviving Mr. Sharpe are his sons, Kenneth Sharpe, Sr. and wife Margaret of Burlington, Basil Sharpe, Jr. and wife Bobbie of Climax; daughter, Linda Carol Sharpe of Kernersville; sisters, Ivy Coble of Greensboro, Margie Bishop of Greensboro; twelve grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Circle of Friends at Alamance Presbyterian Church.

The Sharpe family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. today at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home in Pleasant Garden.

Mrs. Josephine M. Parker

Josephine M. Parker, 97, died Sunday, March 13, 2005 at Evergreens Nursing home.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Forbis & Dick, Guilford Chapel, 5926 W. Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC with Pastor Daniel Koenig officiating.

Josephine was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 19, 1907. She grew up in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and attended Keene State Teachers College in New Hampshire. As the wife of a naval officer, she lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Long Beach, California, and overseas in China and the Philippines. She made her home in Pensacola, Florida where she lived for many years before retiring to Hot Springs, Arkansas. Josephine moved to Greensboro, North Carolina in 1991.

Her interests in painting and music and her love of books and reading and writing were lifelong pursuits for which she will be remembered along with her independent spirit, colorful personality (and attire), and her great love of family.

She was preceded in death by husbands Philip French, E.O. Andersen, and John O. Parker, and one grandchild, Edward A. Lichtenberger. She is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Barbara Jane and Roger Brandt of Westford, Massachusetts, Yvonne Andersen and Dominic Falcone of Lexington, Massachusetts, and Carol and Edward C. Lichtenberger of Greensboro, North Carolina and seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Evergreens, Inc. Greensboro Renaissance Program, 4007 West Wendover Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27407 or the Ebenezer Lutheran Church Library, 310 South Tremont Drive, Greensboro, NC 27403.

Mrs. Annie "Lorraine" Hutchens Flynt
SERVICE DETAILS: Funeral Services are incomplete at this time at Brooke Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Annie Lorena Hutchins Flynt, 64, of 8602 Belews Creek Road, died Wednesday August 25, 2004 at her home.

There will be no formal service or visitation.

A Guilford County native, Mrs. Flynt was born on October 12, 1939 the daughter of Maynard and Julia Louise Self Hutchins. She was retired from the Bi-Rite Supermarket where she worked as a clerk for twenty five years, and was a member of Oak Level Baptist Church. On May 29, 1969 she married Mr. Robah Baskum Flynt, Jr., who survives of the home.

Surviving in addition to Mr. Flynt are her children Steven Randall Flynt of Madison, Robah Flynt, III, Christopher Maynard Flynt, Julia Lorena Flynt, and Genie Marie Flynt all of Stokesdale, her sister Julia Belle Logan of Stokesdale, brothers Ivey Hutchins of Summerfield, and Manuel Hutchins of Stokesdale, and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Dr., Greensboro, NC 27407, or Hospice and Palliative Care at Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.

Mrs. Lula Pearman Lovett

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday August 26, 2004 at Stokesdale Christian Church. Interment will at Stokesdale Christian Church Cemetery.

Stokesdale, NC - Lula Pearman Lovett, 88, died Tuesday August 24, 2004 at Countryside Manor.

funeral service for Mrs. Lovett will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday August 26, 2004 at Stokesdale Christian Church with the Reverend Dexter Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lovett was born January 24, 1916 in Summerfield to the late Calvin Cornelius Pearman and Betty Lee Middleton Pearman. For many years she was employed by Blue Bell, and was a member of Stokesdale Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Cootch" Lovett and two daughters, Rachel Booth and Louise Huckabee, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her son Morris Lovett and his wife Leigh Ann, and a grandson Donnie Booth, whom she raised from age three after his mother was killed in an auto accident, and his wife Cammy. Other grandchildren surviving are Tracey Racz of Richmond, Va., Charles Huckabee of Vernon, Fl., Amanda Lovett, Matthew Lovett, and Andrew Lovett, all of Stokesdale, and three great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her sisters Clara Collins and Jean Pearman, and brothers Newton Pearman and Calvin Pearman and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. tonight at Forbis and Dick Brooke Chapel, and other times at the home of Morris Lovett.

Memorials may be made to the Stokesdale Christian Church, PO Box 485, Stokesdale, NC 27357.

Mrs. Lillie Nance Peddle

Greensboro – Mrs. Lillie Mae Nance Peddle, 90, passed away on August 21, 2004, at her residence of congestive heart failure..

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park.

Mrs. Peddle was born April 19, 1914 to the late S.K. Anderson and Ida Cobbler Anderson of King and she worked at Dunning Industries. Mrs. Peddle was a member of the Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Lonnie G. Nance, grandsons Travis LaMarr and Dewayne Brigman, three brothers and six sisters.

She is survived by her husband Maxwell Peddle; five daughters, Betty Jean LaMarr and husband Ray, Barbara Mae Frizzell and husband Bill both of Gibsonville, Doris Ann Ishee and husband Edgar of Mississippi, Kaye Comer and Lonnie Susan Phillips and husband Carmon both of Greensboro; three brothers, Doley Anderson, Sam Anderson and Bill Anderson all of McLeansville; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren and a dear friend Douglas Tallant..

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 24, 2004, from 10 to 11:00 a.m. at Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel.

The family would like to especially thank Wendy, Rachel and all Hospice help for their love and care.

Mrs. Jane L. Wodynski Sieredzki

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday August 24, 2004 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment will be at Westminster Gardens.

Mrs. Jane Wodynski Sieredzki, 92, of Verra Springs at Heritage Greens died Saturday, August 21, 2004, at Moses Cone Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 24, at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church where she was a member. The interment will follow at Westminster Gardens.

Jane was a homemaker and had resided in Fanwood, NJ for 47 years prior to moving to Greensboro in 1999.

Surviving are her son Richard J. Sieredzki, and his wife, Pat, of Melbourne Beach, FL;

four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband John P. Sieredzki and son Robert W. Sieredzki.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, August 23, at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel.

The family would like to thank the Hospice Unit at Moses Cone Hospital for the special care and attention given to Mrs. Sieredzki during her illness.

Mrs. Katherine Spell

KING - Mrs. Katherine Spell, 76, died Sunday, August 22, 2004 at her residence. She was born February 15, 1928 in Knoxville, Tenn. to Ernest Cloud and Vina Ann Long Cloud Arthur. She was a homemaker and was a member of New Birth Baptist Church in Walnut Cove.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1960 by her first husband, Ronald Wade Travis, and in 1994 by her second husband, Thomas Dwayne Spell.

She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Ann (Lawrence) Miller of King, Billie Voncille (Lindsey) Holley of Walnut Cove, and Anna Marie (Allan) White of Stanleyville, ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at New Birth Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Burroughs Funeral Home, Walnut Cove, from 7 until 9:00 this evening

Mrs. Agnes Mebel Erskine

Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday August 25, 2004 at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church.

Greensboro – Mrs. Agnes Mebel Erskine, age 93, of 2201 Dulaire Road, died Saturday, August 21, 2004 at Wesley Long Nursing Center.

A memorial service will be held at 2: 00 PM on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church of which she was a member, with Reverend John W. Johnson officiating. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery at a later date.

She was a native of Wigan, England and raised her family in Scotland. She spent her latter years in the United States and a homemaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Erskine, and a daughter, Wilma E. Layman.

She is survived by her three children, Hilary Erskine of Greensboro, Elspeth Turner of High Point, and Robert Erskine and his wife Beverly of Greensboro; five grandchildren, Sian Erkine-Harrell and her husband Bradley Harrell, Laura Ross and her husband Stuart, Mark Turner and his wife Alexis, Steven Turner and his wife Lisa, and Martin Turner; and six great grandchildren, Ryan Fulkerson, Matthew Fulkerson, Hannah Turner, Ellen Turner, Abigail Ross, and Alexander Ross.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice at Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
